Had a lovely meal here with plenty of gluten-free choices. Of particular note was the presence of nice fish offerings and a decent fixed price menu. It's officially "French food", but definitely on both the "rustic" and "British interpretation" side of that. Still, a lovely meal, and the kind of place I wish I could walk to from my home.

I wanted to visit Jericho because of its association with Phillip Pullmans “Dust” trilogy. I attempted a late booking by phone and email but when we arrived a table was free outside in the beautiful sunshine. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a quiet drink before ordering the Norwiegenne Crepes and a bottle of wine. The crepes were really well presented, the was plenty of smoked salmon and the cream cheese filling was excellent. The portion size was huge - we could have easily shared one. It is obviously a “locals” pub and we have a very enjoyable chat to one of them. Well worth a visit

The menu is a little different and all the better for it. I had one of the special, sausages and mash which was delicious and a generous portion the rest of my party all had different things and all were delighted with their choices. The food is generally of a high standard and served on hot plates. The atmosphere is wonderfully 'jazzy' and relaxed. The staff were friendly and helpful and the prices were great. All in the party intend to revisit in the near future. Very happy customers.

Oh wow, what a fabulous pub The Old Bookbinder’s Ale House is! We were looking for somewhere to eat with vegan options for my husband. He had a wonderful vegan cassoulet and I had Caesar salad which was generously portioned and full of flavour. We both had vegan cheesecake for pudding. It was amazing! Wish I could have the recipe. The serving team are all really lovely, working their socks off, smiling and chatting with customers. There’s a really warm atmosphere. Ladies’ loo is immaculate, tastefully and very thoughtfully set out. We visited on Open mic night, and really enjoyed the music - and doggie applause from Toto the terrier. I was all set to ask for a turn at the mic but my husband thought he might turn into a pumpkin if we stayed any longer. Pity, as a young woman was just starting a beautiful version of ‘It Ain’t Me, Babe.’

Only stopped for a quick drink, at 5 to 5 Sunday afternoon. Looked like an interesting old pub. The bar person was pleasant enough, but I do wish she had told us that the bar was about to close, as the rather surly looking girl who followed us outside proceeded to inform the seated customers of this fact, and went from table to table taking down the umbrellas. Felt about as welcome as a fart in an astronaut suit, but luckily we had a train to catch, so didn't hang around.

Having visited with friends for drinks, I was convinced by the wonderful smell of the food to come back with my boyfriend. We tried the burger (added bacon and brie) and the minute steak with garlic butter. I have to say both needed salt, but we do have salty palates so it might just be us! The waitresses are very sweet and friendly. We didn’t have a reservation but turned up when they opened at lunchtime and they fit us in straight away which was nice. I must say that we did see (presumably) the owner / landlady take the half pint of coke we ordered from the bar and pour some out before letting the waitress bring it to us… bad impression for something that would’ve cost you less than a penny! But the atmosphere in general is good, the specials sounded nice, and we will come back at some point as it’s a good place for a casual lunch.

Very quiet for a Friday night. The barman was pleasant enough. It’s just all a bit dull for me. You can’t really see the cartoons as the room is not particularly well lit. The cocktails were fine. We walked through the hotel to the other bar which was slightly better but at £9 for a glass of not cold enough Pinot Grigio in another badly lit room, we left feeling rather conned after they added a service charge as well. . For a large hotel the wine selection by glass is very limited.

We’ve stayed here a dozen times in the last ten years but this will be our last stay. The lady who checked us in was dismissive and disinterested. The room was lovely but Very noisy indeed so very little sleep. The shower was cold. Properly cold. They moved us to a quieter room for the next night which was good. Shower this morning not only cold again but virtually no pressure so it took five minutes just to make sure the soap was off. Breakfast was nothing like last time. Coffee was overrun and bitter. No fruit. Yes. No fruit. Only sliced apple. I asked for some berries and was told they had none. The menu service is gone so welcome to a large scale buffet just like a conference hotel. Congealed eggs and sweaty bacon dripping in fat. Stale pastries. All this for 400 pounds a night. It used to be lovely and clearly the bean counters have taken charge and are going for the bare minimum. Apart from the check in lady, all the staff try hard Oxford’s Grand Dame is gone. A faceless homogeneous business / tour hotel is the new reality.

Jess made us an absolutely stunning and delicious wedding cake at short notice. She perfectly understood what we were looking for both in terms of the cake and the decorations. It was so beautiful the whole room went quiet when it was brought in, and we had so many compliments on the taste as well! The whole process was very professional and reassuring, and really allowed us to take our minds off of it - which was especially important as the baker we had originally intended to use had to cancel only a few weeks before the wedding. In hindsight we're very pleased they did, as we could not imagine anything better than this!
