Popped in, hadn’t book but the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Sat in the sun, in the beautiful riverside garden and had amazing Sunday roast. Great service, great food, will be back!

After several visits for Sunday lunch the standard of service and food is still five star. The staff are excellent, efficient, polite and hard working. The food is amazing.. I can cook a good roast but why bother when I can get a superb roast with all the trimmings here and no washing up.

I've been to the Prince Leopold a few times before as part of a larger walking group. Always enjoyed it. Took a couple of friends today and the four of us were really impressed with the quality of the food, the service and the value for money. I can't think of a pub I'd rather go to for a meal. A pity it's half an hours drive from Salisbury or I'd be a regular.

We arrived for a birthday meal and felt like we were an inconvenience straight away. Before even being able to pull out our chairs we were asked "what do you want to drink" when we asked for a drinks list and wine menu we were just told a few of the options. No children's menu available so we were offered a burger that could be cut in half for them to share We felt very pressured and rushed into deciding what to have rather than being able to take our time and enjoy the evening. My meal itself was nice however my partners was covered in a coriander sauce which was not in the description so was very overpowering, no check back to see if our food was ok or if we would like further drinks. A real shame as we have always enjoyed it here but this time we were made to feel very unwelcome and very rushed, ruined the evening.

This pub always had a good reputation but not any more the food has been dumbed down the service was practically none existent. I asked for alternative milk for my coffee and was told there wasn't any call for it ? Really? I wonder what dinosaur is running the kitchen, it used to be a favourite but not any more. False economy no coffee sold because they couldn't spend £1.75 on alternative milk, I ask you so short sighted.

A favourite place to visit. Parking can be tricky when it's busy as it's located in a small hamlet. Beautiful location particularly in the spring and summer months. A note to the owners: your website appears not to have been updated since 2020 with Covid notices everywhere and that you serve meals on wheels! Otherwise - always good!

What a lovely pub in such a quiet backwater. Professionally run and great cuisine. All 4 of us were pleased with our food especially my delicious venison burger. And to crown the experience, all washed down with one of the best bitters in the land: butcombe all the way from the mendips. So what could go wrong? Sadly and out of control of the management: the loudest mouth I’ve heard since the mp Geoffrey Cox who was sitting at a neighbouring table though he could be heard from most parts of the pub- clearly an entitled local. I know more about this man’s financial affairs than how my sister and brother in law were doing since we saw them last. Other diners came out of the room looking shell-shocked as we were and later sought refuge near the bar. If you hear this man when you visit, flee to a quieter corner if you can find one -quickly. He will ruin your dinner.. just to let the nice people in the pub know, he was there with a (quieter) friend on Tuesday 31st October between 1-3pm. He will (probably does) drive customers away

One of the best restaurants we’ve been to in years! Came here for lunch today. Friendly staff managed to put us on a lovely table by the river in the sunshine. Food was served super fast and was hot and delicious! Definitely recommend the roast dinner and the sticky date pudding. Found this pub on Tripadvisor when looking for somewhere after Longleat balloons. Don’t be put off by the website which is a bit clunky and out of date. We’d rung ahead to book, and received a warm welcome, and they had a good selection of draft beers and ciders. Outside was busy, there were plenty of tables inside, although we found one on the terrace. We were advised there might be a wait for food, so we ordered the bread and olives board to keep us going. This was nice, good chunky bread with tasty pesto and chilli jam. I had chicken and chips main, which was generous with lots of parmigiana and fresh veggies. My wife had pulled pork in a bun with chips and slaw, which was lovely, but she struggled to finish. It had a nice friendly atmosphere, lots of dogs (including ours) and staff were all very pleasant, albeit busy. Riverside setting is gorgeous on a summer evening, but I’d imagine it’s warm and cosy inside in the winter too. Seemed very popular with locals, but we were made to feel welcome. Recommended.

My wife and I, with my family, dined at 'The Prince Leopold' to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Despite my son booking over a month before on arrival, and with him confirming with The Prince Leopold' a week earlier, the staff had no record of our booking and after an awkward exchange they found us a table. Whilst the meal itself was okay a rather large dog, presumably the owners, wandered around our table while we were eating. The dog then proceeded to be sick both by and under our table. The staff, when notified, did clean up the mess with paper towels but offered no apology or explanation. I wonder whether this would be a public heath matter given that a dog was being ill around the table while food is served to customers. There was also no offer of any refund on our bill or as previously mentioned any apology. This rather detracted from what should have been a joyous and fun evening. The staff otherwise were were efficient and courteous and the food was of a acceptable standard. Given our experience on this occasion I cannot recommend The Prince Leopold and therefore, regrettably, can only give it a 1* rating.

I booked the Prince Leopold as it was a good location for family coming from Oxford and Devon (and me being in Wiltshire). I know the pub sits on the river and had good reviews, and we booked the Chicken Shed (outdoor private hut) as the elder members of my family find it hard to hear in a loud environment. We had a fantastic meal (took quite a long time to come out, but I prefer that than coming out really quickly, plus it was very busy). The waitress was really lovely and helpful, and had time to chat to us - she was very friendly. The hut is perfect for a quiet get together - it's a bit dark in there and could maybe do with a few brighter lights - however, that would spoil the ambience as it has fairly lights in there and is very pretty. It was perfect for us APART FROM the taxidermy art on the walls! With a vegetarian and lots of animal lovers in the group, it did upset one member of the family who found it quite distressing to look at a dead deer's head while eating. I think it may be good to let people know there is taxidermy in there. I personally feel it's an unnecessary thing to do and it would be a much more appealing space without it but I'm sure there are plenty of people who love taxidermy. Anyway, food was amazing, setting lovely, staff great, and we will be back - but maybe in the main restaurant - unless the animal heads disappear from the walls!

This time the mushroom starters were amazing, as were the mussels and the camembert. For mains, two of us had steak, it is one of the best I have eaten (only critique, too much batter to onion ratio for the rings). The burger is lovely as was the sea bass. We chanced upon this delightful Inn on our way to bath . So glad we did . Amazing meal , very busy but still attentive staff. Must try to visit during the summer as it sits along side a beautiful river with outside seating .

Visited twice, good food and helpful staff each time. Elderly relative found it a bit noisy unfortunately, but bigger room at the back was OK at lunchtime with not too many people there. Good quality pub food.

Normally a great local produce menu: on New Year' eve the food was still good, varied and a very novel approach. The remainder was awful: the 'DJ' was more laid back than the situation warranted and was high jacked midway through the evening and his equipment taken to the bar. Needless to say this is not a festivity that we will repeat. Hopefully our normal lunch visits will not be affected!

The A36 is littered with grim pubs serving greasy food to passers by. The Prince Leopold is ony a few minutes drive off the main road but what a difference. A warm welcome ,attractive riverside venue with a garden and a sensible balance between regulars and visitors. The menu is exensive for a country pub but the chef obviously knows what he is doing. A good range of beers and a well balanced wine list. You turn off the A36 at the traffic lights and go down through the village.Top Tip: If calling at a busy time well worth booking

We booked for a Saturday lunch time pm to celebrate a birthday. Allocated table by window which was lovely. However, the Dining Room was very cold for quite a while as if the heating is only turned on when lunch service starts. When other tables started to fill up the place warmed up but took quite a while.

I booked a table at The Prince Leopold because it was half way between where, as 2 couples, we lived. When I booked I asked about Gluten Free options as I have Coeliac Disease and was told they would see what they could do when we arrived. Not the best comment ever, but we decided to go with it, as the pub had come recommended. We arrived a little early but went in. The gentleman who arrived in behind us was welcomed, I presume as a regular, but we we left standing there. Eventually the lady behind the bar asked is she could help us, then continued to leave us standing, saying she would be a minute, whilst she started to service other people sitting around the bar. It didn't feel friendly and we didn't get anything that could have been construed to a welcome. Eventually, we were pointed to a table, where we sat and waited to be served. Our dink order was taken and I asked about the Gluten Free options to be told to choose something and they would see what they could do. No indication of what was good and what was not. So not sure where to go with it I decided on ham, egg and chips, at a pricey £11, as nothing could really go wrong with this. The others in the group order pie, sausages and an open Club Sandwich. The pie apparently was good, but no gravy arrived, The open sandwich was not so good, at an expensive price of £12, and the sausages we OK but again a tad pricey. I have to add here that the presentation of my food was not good. The ham was in a pile, the chips looked as if they had been thrown on and the two eggs were on top of the cold ham... The issue we had was the wait. It took an hour and 5 minutes for our food to arrive. The people, on the table by the side of us, arrived 1/2 hour after us, were eating and on coffee by the time our table got our food. Again they appeared to be regulars. We then waited at least 1/2 hour for the table to be cleared. We were given the menu's for a pudding but again very little GF choice so we decided to leave. Although we did fancy a coffee but with 5 minutes until closing it obviously wasn't an option. We had been in the pub for 2 hours at that point. We had been recommended this pub but sadly I won't be. It is probably up there with one of the most unwelcoming places I have been. Gluten Free is not difficult to do if you engage with it but this pub have chosen not to. Thumbs down for Gluten Free options.

Having eaten here many times and celebrated new years eve 2018 we decided to book for New Year's Eve 2019. The evening was marketed as A Night at the Oscars with black tie for gents and included a 5 course meal for £35 pp. I asked if the evening would be similar to the previous new years eve i.e. live music and dancing after a superb meal. Definitely something simular said Emily the land lady. Well what a disastrous evening it turned out to be. Whilst the food was ok every course felt very rushed and the cheese course was removed from our table well before we had finished. The entertainment turned out to be a teenager with a pre recorded selection of music and on playing this cleared the restaurant within 2 hours. Locals congregated in the main bar area thus leaving just 5 of us plus the inappropriately named 'dj' in the restaurant. No count down for new years eve and no attempt made by mine host's to include us in any celebrations taking place by locals around the bar (this was locals attempting to sing along to the teenagers hijacked pre recorded music.) Needless to say we won't ever spend another new years eve at this venue and feel the marketing was completely misleading of what the evening was going to be.....so enjoy the food at this venue but expect to be ostracised by the locals.

We eat here and drink here a lot. Every visit the food is exceptional, every visit the staff are exceptional. We attended the New Years Eve walk the red carpet evening, 5 course set menu, every course was cooked and prepared to perfection. A big thank you to Rambo, Emily and all your team for all your hospitality and we wish you continued success in 2020.

It is certainly worth finding your way to this lovely spot in summer or winter. The conservatory restaurant looks out onto the riverside garden. Friendly, helpful staff serve good ale in the bar where you can read the fascinating local history. The boars heads and other animals and game in the decor may not be to everybody's taste but vegetarians are catered for on the menu! The menu is interesting and varied and our largish party for a reunion were all happy with our choices last Wednesday lunchtime. Sadly the affogato was off the menu as there was no vanilla icecream. One of our party was unable to make it at the last minute. Had she been there it would have been a bit of a squash at the table. But these are minor quibbles about an otherwise jolly good lunch.

Highly recommend. We visited for my husbands birthday with friends. Great choice on menu, fantastic service and atmosphere. The food was amazing. Personally I found dessert rather large in portion size for me.

Six family members, aged from 6 to 77, had a light meal at the start of a week away: the varied food, from ham hock terrine and soup to mussels and devilled kidneys was enjoyed so much we returned for an evening meal. Our main courses then were also extremely good and generous, including pork ribs, duck and swordfish. The pub has a lovely welcoming interior and the staff are pleasant and efficient.

Been here twice now. Once was excellent and the other was average... First time there the bar staff weren't interested and the food wasn't up to much. However it was much better yesterday and I had a cracking bowl of duck. I would say that this is a place to go to early in the evening when you get better attention from both the kitchen and the staff.

We went to this pub today and loved it. The food, the atmosphere and the service were perfect. It’s a fair trek for us but well worth it and we we’ll definitely be returning.

Dined here midday. The menu had a good choice of food and we were very satisfied with the service, quality of the food and - as a real ale drinker - the excellence of choice. It was a warm sunny day and we opted for an outdoor table. Would definitely put on our list when next in the area as somewhere we would be pleased to visit again.

Booked for lunch with friends and 2 dogs. Extremely friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. Our friends wanted scotch eggs to start but they didn't have any ready. After a short discussion the chef made them some fresh. Delicious!! Salt and pepper squid was tender and tasty and the best moules frites we have had in a long time. A long relaxed lunch which was perfect xx

Food was delicious and the manager made our evening! Kerrie (sorry if it’s spelt wrong) was brilliant. She was funny, hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. We will absolutely be back! 💖

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..

Have just experienced excellent service at the longs Arms. Greeted on arrival by Beth who is an engaging young woman made us feel welcome. The server George and Eloise were attentive and friendly. Great team and enjoyable experience.

I live quite locally and thought this would be a good place to take my mum for mothers day. When we intially popped in to book there was a power cut, the receptionist took a number and said she would call, no call came so we went back in and the same receptionist did a bad job of pretending she didn't regonise us, no apology given however we booked afternoon tea. Both my self and my mother wouldn't recommend, some of the cakes had clearly been hanging around for a while. For what it cost, and the quality we left wishing we had gone else where. The staff were pleasent and attentive while we had afternoon tea, however we were (from we could see) the only one's in the hotel!
