Went here for a roast dinner after reading numerous FB comments. It was tremendous, it helped that they had my favourite meat on (lamb), although everything on the plate was cooked great and I had plenty of gravy. It was busy, the staff were very friendly even though they didn't stop on their feet. Will definitely go back. I might even try the afternoon tea, as the family at the next table had one and they were so obviously enjoying it, it looked lovely. Thanks 👍

Visited for a Sunday Roast today and frankly it was the most flavoursome and delicious roast I’ve had in years. The service is fast, friendly and personable. Highly recommend the lamb 🤤

Do not order the Roast Chicken dinner. We had a lovely Sunday walk in New Mills along the river and canal and decided to stay local for lunch. The Pride of the Peaks seemed a good option. We ordered a couple of roast dinners, a lamb and a chicken. My wife's lamb was lovely. I wasn't so lucky. I expected the chicken to be part of a roast chicken, but no, what I got was a very dried out chicken beast which had been popped into the oven for fast too long. I could only eat a couple of pieces. However, what gives the 3 stars is the ambivalent reaction of the staff when I gave the feed back. No "sorry" , no "what can we do", just "we'll feed that back". I doubt you did. I have to say the rest of the dinner was lovely, which makes this even more of a shame. A 3 star, so easily could have been 5

I must have entered the twilight zone a Dog Friendly pub ,,, 💩💩💩 thats a joke ,, WOW after a beautiful 7 day stay in Hayfield my family who live in the area recommended i have a walk to New Mills . I entered at 11:50 to be told they had No Breakfast food available, I ordered the steak pie to a very un interested member of staff no please Thankyou or any conversation of any sort , during the time i was stood doing my order i heard a woman’s voice say something about a dog , my dog was on a lead the other in a dog buggy i didn’t think anything of it at first , until she bellowed get that dog away from me , i said shes not near you or bothering you she replied i don’t care get IT away from me , at which point the arrogant old male started telling her to kick my dog just kick it he kept saying , My dog is a small dog , well behaved and a threat to nobody , i was totally disgusted ,absolutely stunned and shocked beyond belief that the staff felt no reason to correct this couples behaviour ,,, because they were locals So i think a re name something like We Pride in Abuse to Non Locals Thanks but no thanks Ever Again , my son and daughter in-law were mortified at the way i was treated as a lone traveller of over 60

Lovely pub. Friendly staff and locals. Went after a long walk for a drink and some lunch. The dog was welcomed and received a free dog chew and a bowl of water. Ordered the braised beef with mash and a selection of vegetables. Delicious! Partner went for the salt and pepper chicken burger and enjoyed it. Sat in the beer garden in the sun. Just like summer for an hour 😂. Would recommend.

The food was decidedly better than the service. We were watching a play locally so were in a hurry, otherwise the frosty reception we received would have left us most definitely searching for somewhere else and for this reason I don’t think we’d return. Decent menu though we asked for one kind of chips and were given another; the old chunky v french fries debate. They did look to have an amazing choice of home made cakes on offer.

We looked through the window and saw it was very quiet but the boards said they served food all day so we ventured in and asked. The guy behind the bar immediately left his conversation to see to us. Not sure if he was the landlord or staff but with his woolly hat on he looked like he had just come from a building site (he wasn't scruffy at all I hasten to add). He advised on the specials menu. We got seated with a pint for my partner and a cappuccino arriving in a lovely big cup and saucer soon after. I ordered the cheese chicken tikka wrap and he had the trio of sausages. When mine arrived I commented that I wasn't sure whether to eat it or climb it. Wow. The wrap was on the bottom with chips on top and the cheesy chicken tikka with sriracha sauce on top gave it a volcanic appearance. It had salad on the side. To be honest I don't think the wrap was necessary. It tasted good and I didn't eat for the rest of the day. My partners trio of sausages was ensconced on a Yorksire Pudding bed with mashed carrot, mashed potato and broccoli accompaniments. He was more than happy with it. The only slight downer was one man in the group of locals. He was the only one we could hear from the other side of the pub and was the one who was doing most of the talking, liberally peppered with the 'f' word. I'm not offended by it but after we arrived there was a small child dining in there too and another couple so it wasn't pleasant to hear.

We were given the wrong meat on one of our roast dinners. When we complained about the meal being wrong we were met with less than satisfactory attitude from the waiting staff and were told "that was what was on the order, so you must have ordered it". Then when it came to the meal, they weren't that great.

We nearly did not include New Mills itself in our canal/river circuit of the town, and we are glad we did. Although we each ordered different dishes, the service was good, as were the meals themselves. We were also pleased that there was no muzak, apart from barely noticeable sounds from the kitchen.

The food we ordered was quick to be served and we couldn’t believe the size of the portions. I struggled to eat all mine, but it was delicious. They welcome dogs too which is a bonus. We ate in the bar area and there was an open fire in there so very warm and snug. We went again the following day after walking from Hayfield but just had a drink in the beer garden. Again, a lovely cappuccino and a beer. We would definitely eat there again if in the area. Not far from the millennium walkway too so lots of nice walks nearby.

Just had afternoon tea in the pop inn with my daughter. The food was amazing & so much of it. The wooden hut they call the pop inn is fantastic. Great atmosphere & private. A real chill space. We had to bring food home with us there was so much. Not only was the quantity impressive but the quality too. If you haven't tried it. You're missing out. The landlady Shellie is lovely & does an amazing job. Can't recommend enough.

Visited here one lunchtime. Plenty of local customers, which is usually a good sign. The menu was varied and the portion size was reasonable, but it had clearly been prepared beforehand and reheated. My meat still had some of the plastic wrap it had been stored in. All in all I wouldn't mind eating here again but I wouldn't miss it if I didn't.

From the moment we waked in the door we were made to feel very welcome by the landlord, his staff and the locals. Great pub, great atmosphere, great food and of course great beer, and to top it all dog friendly.

Fairly basic pub, although newly decorated, but the food was excellent. Atmosphere was good and the service faultless. Nice variety of food including choice of vegetarian dishes. Made to feel very welcome , staff very friendly.

We were after a hot drink and something quick to eat on a stop in Glossop and I was certain we could find somewhere that wasn't the chain coffee shop when I saw this place. Really cute inside, lovely welcome, and lovely food. There are tons of veggie and vegan options. We just had breakfast but it was so nice! I'll be back!

Food was decent but not worth £8 for a sandwich , when i entered the building we felt very unwelcomed , the staff kept giving us dirty looks. The woman at the bar asked us to repeat our order at least 8 times. Not a single smile in the whole premises , the staff looked depressed.

We have been regular visitors to Hargreaves prior to Covid, it's our favourite eatery in Buxton and always look forward to our visit. We visited yesterday and what a disappointment. What was once an " Edwardian " tea room , now looks more like a works canteen. My favourite colour is green, but the plain painted walls in a drab olive colour just doesn't work especially with no prints to break it up. Tableclothes seem to have disappeared and the lighting looks awful. Oh and they have fallen into the trap of PC "Unisex" loos. Having said all that, the food was very good and the staff/service efficient and friendly. Sorry, these, I know, are difficult times and it is all a matter of personal taste, just not to ours. I wish them well but we will now have to seek out pasture new.
