I live locally and dropped by on a Saturday night for a couple of pints. There was live music featuring a spirited local artist singing rock/pop favourites to guitar - he also sang requests. The pub was full of locals singing along, dancing and enjoying themselves in a lively, friendly atmosphere. Would recommend for a fun, relaxed evening out!

For years the Poyntz was a hugely missed opportunity, run with no care and no investment. How times have change! In a matter of months it has been transformed into the community pub it always should have been. Big Smoke are in possession of the pub holy grail. The perfect balance of food, beer, atmosphere and staff. Run by people who genuinely care about running a pub and fully understanding of the important role a pub can hold within a community. It’s the best thing to happen to Walton Rd since the sad demise of Woolworths!

Molesey has been crying out for a decent pub, and we finally have one! The Poyntz Arms is a home from home; cosy, very welcoming and serves great food and beer. They also have great live music. A real gem of a pub…and always very difficult to leave!

Another brilliant big smoke pub. The Poyntz has become our much needed local village pub, and the staff are always really welcoming. There is a brilliant selection of food and drinks and they have a good selection of music events and a great weekly pub quiz.

In East Molesey's fair and tranquil midst, There stands a noble tavern, The Poyntz Arms, Where wood and stone in harmony exist, And warmth doth greet thee with a thousand charms. Thine eyes shall feast upon a hearth of light, Where beams do arch and whisper tales of old, And in this sacred space, the heart takes flight, As time doth linger, slow and full of gold. The fare, O wondrous fare, thy soul doth crave, With bounty drawn from earth and field and sky. Each dish, a work of art, thy taste shall save, And in its depth, the very stars pass by. But ah! 'Tis not just food that fills the heart, For service here doth wear a gentle grace. The staff, like shadows, play their kindly part, Their kindness painted on each loving face. And with thy drink, a pint or goblet filled, Thou'lt sit in peace, and time itself shall cease, For here, within this tavern, spirits thrilled, Shall find in quiet joy their sweet release. So, visit thee this place both near and far, And know, The Poyntz Arms is a shining star.

Whilst the food, drink and service are pretty good, the Poyntz currently has a huge problem with too many children being allowed in. Each of my last three visits have been cut short because of the sheer number of kids running around, ordering soft drinks at the bar, occupying whole tables and seating areas playing board games and watching devices… meanwhile oblivious parents get hammered in the opposite corner… seriously Poyntz! You need to sort this out if you want to stay in business because this sentiment was echoed in the faces of everyone else in the pub (except the parents) I also know for a fact people have complained multiple times about this. Currently you’ll find me and an increasing number of my East Molesey friends and neighbours in The Mute Swan, Albion or Marneys - some are so exasperated they’re going to the Bell for Christ’s sake.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this establishment. While the young staff member was polite, the older gentleman, who seemed to be the manager, was shockingly rude. I visited with an elderly neighbour who doesn't get out much, especially around the holidays, and we thought a roast and a chance to catch up would lift his spirits. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, we were greeted with an appalling lack of courtesy and absolutely no customer service. We were essentially encouraged to leave and go somewhere else for coffee, which made it clear they weren’t interested in serving us. This behaviour left my neighbour feeling embarrassed and upset. Determined to salvage the visit, I firmly insisted we stay and have the roast. While we did eventually have our meal, the experience was completely soured by the unwelcoming attitude we encountered. As long-term residents of East Molesey, this level of service is not what we expect from a local pub, especially during the festive season. It’s disheartening to think this is how they treat members of the community at Christmas—one can only imagine how they operate the rest of the year. I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone in the area and sincerely hope they address their approach to customer care.

We booked a table for 2:30 on Sunday and arrived at around 2:20. The restaurant was very busy, and when we enquired about our table, we were told it wasn’t ready yet as the previous guests still had six minutes left. This was understandable, and we were told we could grab a drink while we waited. As we had a baby with us, some very kind patrons let us use their table in the meantime. We were finally seated at 2:50 and quickly placed our food order as we’d already looked at the menu. We also requested some roast potatoes for the baby, as she was hungry, and were assured they would be brought over promptly. Unfortunately, these never arrived. By 4:30—two hours after our booking—our food finally began arriving. The experience was disappointing from start to finish. The food was cold, the meat was poor quality, and it had been sloppily plated. Out of our group, three ordered pork, one beef, and one lamb. The staff simply shouted “pork” or “beef” and haphazardly placed the dishes on the table. When we were asked if we needed anything else, I requested cutlery (which hadn’t been provided) and salt and pepper. Only the salt arrived. To make matters worse, the beef and lamb dishes were served incorrectly. However, they were so bland that it took a while for us to notice. While I appreciate they were busy, the service was careless and unprofessional. It felt like we were being treated as an inconvenience rather than valued customers. We didn’t complain or ask about the delays—we simply ordered crisps at one point because everyone was starving. The biggest issue wasn’t just the delay but the overall lack of care in both the food and service. You don’t book a table for 2:30 and expect to wait two hours to eat. We left feeling very disappointed and unlikely to return.

Edit: went back in yesterday for a coke, killing time whilst child at a club, and the place for late afternoon Monday was buzzing. Used to be flat on a Monday at that time in the past so adjusting review! Just reopend and like everyone in the area super excited. We love The Big Smoke pub in Surbiton. Went on Friday night and sat outside with a drink and it was lovely. Staff were friendly etc. We were looking forward to our late lunch booking the following day but ended up leaving before we ate. It was a combination of red flags, no table reserved for us, trying to seat us at a clearly far too small table for four people to eat (you'd barely fit two plates), and after a nice family who had just finished overheard the issues offering us their table no one cleaning the table or bringing menus or telling us where to get menus and order. I felt it was a sign of a stressful meal ahead.

We decided to share the olives and beetroot humuus with soda bread. It was a good choice as it was superb but more than enough for two people. The menu offers chicken, beef or pork together with fish and vegan options. I had the roast pork and my partner had the beef. Both meals were substantial and delicious. There is an extensive wine list ranging from around £18 to £80 so catering for all palates. Unfortunately we were too full to try the desserts but will definitely return soon and hopefully leave some room to sample them.

Excellent food. My husband had Christmas turkey - and Christmas pudding for dessert. Our friend and I had roast beef with huge Yorkshire puds! All very well cooked. Plentiful and varied vegetables, delicious gravy. Apple crumble fresh and generously portioned. Staff efficient and helpful though service delayed before dessert. When it came to doing the tip, the machine wouldn’t take it and were forced to pay with cash - then were given the wrong change! One point management might wish to improve - is heating. On entering restaurant it was cool for a cold Sunday winter lunchtime. A restaurant needs to be warm and welcoming. We had to ask for the back door to be closed (needs to be on an automatic closure) as we sat in a cold draught most of our lunch time. Also the door through which waiters bring food from kitchen into restaurant needs to be a two-way swing door as is in restaurants. It was held permanently open so the cold lobby air kept funnelling into the restaurant. We shall certainly return. It’s a great asset to Walton Road

From the look of the outside I didn’t think it would be much but when we got inside it had a lovely gastropub feel (without trying too hard), great relaxed atmosphere, very helpful and friendly staff and the food went above and beyond our expectations. We all had roasts which were really high quality - perfectly cooked meat, fresh selection of veg, homemade Yorkshire puddings, delicious gravy. I had roast pork and they had cooked the crackling perfectly which I think is rare in restaurants. My wife said the beef was delicious. They also had a good selection of board games so the kids were entertained which meant we had a really chilled afternoon. I’m looking forward to going back on another day to try the rest of their menu!

We have visited the Poyntz quite a few times since it was refurbished and it is far better atmosphere than it was previously. Really friendly staff make it a pleasant experience but we had never eaten here until yesterday. We booked a table to watch the rugby and we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food actually is. I had a full English and my wife had the avocado on toast, both superb and probably the best full English I have had. We've booked a table for next Saturday to watch England v France and looking forward to my breakfast already. The rugby was shown on 3 screens, one of those projected onto a huge screen so watching the match was great. Keep up the good work and see you on Saturday

Rushed to get here before 2pm today for late breakfast, and made it just in time, unfriendly staff and refused and said breakfast was finished at 2pm, we said it's not quite 2pm yet, anyway will not be returning due mostly to their uncaring attitude which we have experienced before we might add. Plenty of other places to go to.

Don't often leave reviews but had the sharing roast with my partner and we were both very impressed. Service was fast, attentive and friendly. Restaurant itself had a nice relaxed atmosphere and a view into the kitchen which I always like. The food itself was fantastic, ingredients were clearly very high quality and fresh and a generous portion. Everything was full of flavour but the beef in particular was beautifully soft, crackling was perfect and there was plenty of lovely glossy gravy. Will definitely be back before long!

Had a fabulous meal with my family. The festive menu is great value for money and the food was tasty. The pub looks amazing, warm and cozy. Team attentive and hard working as always. Definitely joining for Christmas Eve, always a great community night.

My partner & I dropped into this tiny, quaint cafe not knowing what to expect. We certainly were pleasantly surprised by choices on the menu. We opted for the standard Full English Breakfast and were impressed. The owner who is from Albania was so friendly and charming and we definitely recommend this cafe if you are looking for something to start your day.
