Everything about this pub is 5 stars. The atmosphere, the service and especially the food. There were so many dishes on the menu that I wanted to try but I settled for the pan fried chicken with creamy mash and seasonal greens. It was impressive. So too was the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. If I lived nearby then I’d be back every week to eat my way through the menu!

My wife and I went to the Potting Shed for dinner a couple of weeks ago and loved it. Great pub and restaurant vibe and the food was delicious. Excellent selection of beer and wine. Some of the tables in the bar are slightly overlooked if there are lots of people drinking, but that is the nature of a pub. We did ask to be moved to a table that wasn't so overlooked and the staff were very accommodating and we had a lovely evening. Would recommend and will be going again.

Wanderful service, friendly, professional, one thing I will say to be mentioned in the menu is that the grill is chargrill used in the kitchen ,I could choose something else to really enjoy.

Table near the door to outside which didn't close properly so people entering and leaving never took time to shut it, causing my partner to have to keep getting up to close it properly. Lessened the enjoyment of our experience.

Decent enough, but preferred the Wheatsheaf down the road. Booking on line seems flawed, we ended up eating earlier than we wanted, as no later slots were available, but many tables stayed empty all the time we were there, so felt we should have been able to get a better time. Food was fine, standard pub fare but not "gastropub" quality.

We have eaten here many times, enjoying the general décor and ambiance, relaxed service friendly helpful staff and good quality varied lunch menu. We have recommended the pub to many friends who have felt likewise, one to add to the list. However....had our last visit to celebrate by wife's birthday been our first, we would not have visited again for sure. We didn't recognise any of the staff with whom we would always enjoy friendly banter and our table waitress was disinterested at best in providing any level of interest in our needs. She appeared just to be going through the motions dropping the menus on the table, not giving any comments. When asking for water which came eventually, it was ungracefully dumped at one end of the table for us to deal with. The sea bream which is our favourite when on the menu, was redeeming albeit the salsa style sauce vierge was a bit overpowering. In short guys, please get your staff to cheer up, offer advice, maybe smile just once and be a little more courteous when bringing food drink and the bill to the table.

Thoroughly disappointed with this venue after booking a large family meal the venue advised they could only accommodate us for an hour and half likely only one-two courses and we would need to vacate the premises after this, apparently this was due to taking another large booking on the same date in December they advised me it was due to lack of communication but didn’t seem to be overly bothered Luckily I have secured an alternative venue and will not be booking with this venue again

I had been recommended this gastropub by a food loving friend so I had high hopes for a good meal and inviting ambience . Unfortunately our table was positioned facing the kitchen with an open window and door that never seemed to shut. This meant that we could see and hear all of the kitchen clean up work when the food service stopped including the noisy hoovering and plate clattering/ clashing as they cleared away . The other side of our table backed onto a bar area where The staff congregated to chat which was distracting and annoying . 3 of us ordered the wild Mushroom Mac and cheese truffle with truffle crumb as it sounded delicious however it was very bland and had no taste of mushroom Or truffle . We fed this back to the waitress and she gave us some truffle oil to add to our dishes which made a big difference Other people in our group had burgers which they were happy with, And the fish dish looked lovely Sadly we left the establishment wishing we had sat somewhere else and ordered differently

Dropped in for a soft drink and a rest on my journey from Dorset to Coventry. I waited for over ten minutes for service. There was only one member of staff on the bar, (who was attentive, engaging and professional) but there were numerous young servers/bar staff at the back of the bar on mobiles who didn't engage with the bar queue. I listened into the other people waiting, so local, who said this was normal, especially at Friday late afternoon. It's such a beautiful building, with great outside space and decent parking but tatty and to be honest grubby. Toilets especially need attention. It needs some TLC and investment from the owners, together with some more experienced staff to make this a worthwhile place to stop. I get the feeling that it survives based on the comments on Trip Advisor and their like. It could be so much more.

We’ve been coming here for a number of years; great pub with a lovely atmosphere and the food was usually pretty good. Returned for a meal last night, unfortunately the food was awful. The sourdough had the texture of rubber and the food portions were extremely small. The chicken was clearly microwaved and fish was a third of the size it used to be. We spent well over £80 can left hungry. Sadly, I would no longer recommend this as a place to eat unless the food quality improves. Nice place for a drink though..

I had the pleasure of lunching at the Potting Shed yesterday and I must say it was enjoyablr and memorable. The meal began with a Double Gloucester soufflé that was nothing short of perfection. Light, airy, and full of rich, tangy flavour. For the main course, I opted for the ribeye steak and it didn't disappoint. Cooked medium rare, it was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere warm and inviting. Overall, The Potting Shed delivered a delightful dining experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional food and excellent service.

Both couples travelled about 90 minutes to meet for Sunday lunch. We’d driven past regularly when heading to Dorset so thought this would be a good meeting place. Very busy when we arrived but managed to park, the outside area was rammed so after a quick drink outside, we headed in for lunch. We all had Sunday roast which was excellent, beautiful beef and followed up with 4 fabulous desserts. Great service from the young lady serving us. Like outside, the pub was flat out and other than chasing up our drinks a few times, it was great. It deserved 5 stars, the only negative point was after lunch on a beautiful day we thought we’d take a drink outside in the garden. All available tables were overflowing with empty plates of food and drinks glasses. We cleared all of the dirty plates to one end of the table but due to the flies buzzing around we asked a member of staff if they could clear our table. Well …….. it was done but if looks could kill….. we thanked her several times as she cleared the table…. She just glared at us and didn’t speak a word. Everyone eating pays a 10% service charge…. Well this young lady deserves nothing, unfortunately she will get a cut of the tips…. She let the Potting Shed down….. they don’t need her, but I’m sure they will find some reason to excuse her disgraceful behaviour.

The food was mostly great. The burger grilled on fire, amazing. The fish portion was on a smaller side. However, I love the generous portion of crunchy broccoli, yum! The courgette side dish was the most unappealing ever - a mashy mess of overcooked veggies. Though I like the overall taste and a bit of mint in it. Delicious bread. The champagne was great. Nicely situated, lovely old building. We went as a family group to celebrate a 90th birthday and the server we had was patient and very friendly. There was however not one single plant based/vegan option on the entire menu when we visited, which in 2024 is a regular requirement. This was difficult as out of our party of 12, we had two vegan members and someone else with a serious dairy allergy (I believe the focus when we booked was the area and whether our larger party could be physically accommodated). Upon asking, the chefs were able to prepare a simple pasta dish with veggies and olive oil, which was satisfying but rather basic. The fish dish I had was cooked well but a little bland, which for the price was quite disappointing. This is probably a great pub for those who are fine to eat meat.

We had booked a table for four at 3.00 pm on the first Sunday of March. I tend to find by that time most places that do Sunday lunch don't do it as good as when they open at midday or run out of items on the menu , not here . Everything was still available, and we all chose different starters , the scotch egg with black pudding was amazing , everything else was great. My wife and I prefer the roasts to be well cooked , when ordering the roast beef lunch we were informed that it came rare and was that a problem , we asked if it could be well done and was told that was fine. When they arrived it was well done and tasted lovely , with gorgeous sides of vegetables especially the cauliflower cheese .The other two in the party had rare roast beef , again it was excellent. Portions were of a good size. We finished off by sharing a few desserts , the sticky toffee pudding was excellent. There was a good range of beers and wines and service was friendly and excellent. Prices were also very reasonable for such good food. I will definitely return again.

The lighting outside was magical and the car park spacious. We were promptly taken to our table and were given menus. When I checked, allergens were not detailed. The side plates were dirty with a greasy film. We waited ages for waiting staff to come back to the table. I asked for a gluten free menu. The gluten free menu wasn't up to date so the staff member had to check with the kitchen if I could have the blade of beef, which I could. The waiting staff asked what drinks we wanted but didn't offer any helpful suggestions, which really wasn't helpful. I had a mulled wine, which was smooth and tasty. The food arrived promptly, but my green vegetables on top of the dish were cold. Also the jus was a little salty. Nobody came to the table to check if the food was okay or if we wanted additional drinks. After dinner, we asked for the dessert menu. There was no attention to detail as the gluten free menu wasn't brought. The staff member took our dessert order and started to rush off. I had to call him back for another mulled wine. I got the impression he was in a rush all evening and waiting on our table was far too much trouble. We were sitting near the kitchen. From the kitchen noise levels and shouting, it sounded like they were having their own party in the kitchen. When the bill arrived, the service charge had been automatically added. I question what we were paying service charge for. Had I been paying the bill, I wouldn't have paid the service charge. This establishment needs to focus its attention on the detail. I suggest you employ mystery shoppers over the coming months so you can verify what experience your customers are really having. I think you've had some good reviews and have since taken your eye off the ball. I wouldn't subject myself and my family to dining here again.

Busy, buzzy atmosphere. Accommodating, efficient and friendly staff. Staying nearby and came here both nights, once for drinks and once for food. Food a bit expensive, but good veggie options on menu - had an amazing soufflé and then slightly less amazing mac and cheese, which was a bit oily. It was dog friendly but very crowded, so they let us use a quiet table round the corner so our dog could relax - much appreciated! A heated or covered outside area would have been brilliant. Definitely recommend and will come back x

It's okay. A bit dull, usually empty, but that's Chippenham post-lockdown. It's not their fault. They won't let people over 8' tall sit on their tables, which is ridiculous and impractical/uncomfortable. ... I haven't been in for a while. Last there for a wake. A bit chilly. Of course, they're aiming to be dull. Good for events. The name is deeply inappropriate: The engineer who built the house hated Brunel - apparently a common experience at the time. Couldn't avoid him either - big contract, building the neighbouring viaduct. The Arches would be a better name. I apologise; I'm not in the right mood for writing objective reviews. It's nice Chippenham has several of these large Pubs.
