I love the potting shed and go there often for a lunchtime treat, but will struggle to return. I dont know what has happened as the ladies serving are normally lovely and the food amazing. The wait for our food yesterday was an agonising 45 minutes with not an ounce of being bothered or a hint of apology from staff. I let them know we were there as required and after about 15 minutes of waiting for our order to be taken i went in to remind them we were there and asked for our order to be taken, explaining i was in my lunch break. A lovely man duly came out to take our order. It took another 30 minutes for our order to arrive, by which time we just wanted to get up and walk out, we were starving and really fed up waiting. It wasn’t busy. We are used to a lovely looking plate of food with a bit of salad and crisps with the sandwich, but when our lunch turned iup it was disappointing. The cheese and onion toastie sat lonely with its bit of green salad on the plate and truly not worth the £9.50 cost. It was nice, but not value for money. Especially after we waited 45 minutes for it without any recognition of the wait. I waited again to pay for an experience i hadn’t enjoyed which added to my frustration. I politely ask the man serving about the wait, i really wanted to have a big moan but held it in. He absolutely didn’t care less saying people had turned at at the same time ( it was not busy at all) and didnt bat an eyelid when he took my £35 for 3 sandwiches a latter and 2 glasses if apple juice. It really hurt handing over the money.

My wife and I have visited this garden centre a few times over the past 3yrs ever since we moved a 10min walk away. Never been to the cafe until today. Sunshine out... a walk down and a quick lunch to test out the cafe.. the coffee and quality of food. People tend to review things when they have a great experience or a below expectation one. This experience was way below what we would expect from the nearest cafe to Fairfield Park and the surrounding area. Expecially if you want to be able to recommend it or take family and friends visiting. My wife and I sat outside, had our order taken and proceeded to wait.. firstly to get a cappuccino instead of an Americano, then a coke without ice on a very hot day then the water we ordered never came....and then waited almost an hour before being served our food. So not the quick bite out for lunch. I will allow the time delay on a busy sunny Sunday.. as long as the food makes up for it. It didn't. A greasy cheese and ham toasted wrap, a few plain crisps and a few salad levels for £8.50 was extremely disappointing. No tomatoes...no cucumber! It either needs to tick the value for money box or be worthy of paying that much for. £23 for a coffee, a warm coke and two wraps is poor, should have stayed home and done it myself. I'm writing this review as a local and because I know this is a family run business so it's important you are aware of this experience. As a customer why should I come back? Lastly, there were a number of younger staff helping out, but kept walking past dirty plates on our table. Lots of work to be done before I come back I'm afraid.

Found this little gem several months ago and found the staff courteous and friendly. Limited menu items but they also have daily specials including soups etc., they also have a good selection of cakes on offer. Although my wife is a vegetarian she always finds something to eat that she enjoys. The price is very reasonable and the meal portions adequate for lunch. Today I decided to book a table as it was a bank holiday and was informed that hot food must be ordered before 2.30pm. As we live about 45 minutes drive away from the café we left early to ensure we arrived before closing time. My wife ordered her favourite dish of a baked potato with beans and cheese only to be informed that this item was not available. As this happened on our last visit I was quite amazed that such a popular café could keep running out of menu items. We were also informed that most of the cake choices were not available also as they had been very busy. My cheese and tomato sandwich was not appealing as before and was made out of tiger bread and had been cut very thick. The accompanying salad was minimal to say the least, just a few green leaves with no tomato or cucumber and with added crisps. It was so disappointing to travel to one of your favourite eating places only to find that the everything had gone downhill so we will not be returning. I recommend that owners invest in a small freezer and microwave to ensure that the very popular menu item of a baked potato will always available.

We have visited this cafe several times and always found the staff very helpful and courteous. Although the menus has limited choices the food is excellent and very competitive on price. To The cafe is located in the garden centre and has outside areas for dog walkers looking for a decent lunch. There is also a doggie menu. My wife had one of 3 choices of home made soup and I had the cheese and tomato toasted sandwich. Both were great value and very enjoyable. As we had travelled from Pimlico, Herts., the journey was worthwhile. Strongly recommend this cafe.

A wonderful garden centre with a warm family atmosphere. The homemade cakes are so delicious - especially the coconut cake which is my favourite. The Potting Shed café staff are very welcoming and friendly. There are plants, shrubs, herbs and fruit trees to buy. A nice selection of fresh fruit and veg to buy as you leave. There are a couple of delightful Rheas which trot about happily. This is not your pressured corporate garden centre, it is small but has an echo of times gone by - calm and you take your time.

Only ones in the cafe at 9.30, order was taken quickly and politely. We were surprised to find that they don’t actually do any breakfast food of any sort. Menu was lunch only really, despite opening up at 9.30. We both opted for cheesy beans on toast. Looked good but was stone cold! The waitress was very apologetic and immediately ordered them again. Second attempt was slightly better barely warm but edible. The waitress was again apologetic and only charged for one meal. She looked as though this was a daily occurrence and asked us to please mention it to the owner on the way out. He wasn’t around so couldn’t Needless to say we won’t be back for breakfast again

Went here with my sister for breakfast today and was disappointed to find there is no breakfast menu on offer. It opens at 9am for goodness sake. Decided to go for the cheesy beans on toast as it was the closest item that resembled a breakfast item. The first lot came out practically stone cold. The lady did apologize and removed the plates immediately to replace with freshly cooked ones. However the next lot came out only slightly warmer. By the time we’d had a couple of mouthfuls it was getting inedible. The fact that they put fridge cold pre packed grated cheese on the tops of the beans doesn’t help. The bread was nice though. We did only get charged for one meal however £4.70 for tepid beans on toast is a bit steep. Maybe they’re cutting down on their energy bills by not leaving the microwave on long enough to actually heat the beans.

This used to be a lovely friendly restaurant and reading the reviews it appears it still should be. However, we were just finishing off our drinks when at exactly 4 o'clock (closing time) the lights were turned out on us and another family. We needed lunch, but had our dog with us. Thornes Garden Nursery came up on Google and we decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The Potting Shed cafe has a separate room where dogs are allowed in and on this occasion we had it to ourselves. The room and furniture were clean and tidy. The service was efficient and cheery. The extensive lunch menu made choosing difficult, with wraps, sandwiches, baked potatoes, soups and salads all on offer. You can choose your own fillings from a huge list as well. The tuna and cheese baked potato was piled high with the filling and the potato was cooked perfectly. The toasted ham and brie wrap, accompanied by crisps and salad was perfect. We sadly had no room for one of their amazing cakes, maybe next time.

A lovely little cafe, serving anything from coffee and cake to lunches, a little jar of snacks for the children to enjoy. Staff are friendly, inside and outside eating areas. Great to have on the door step !

We've been coming to the potting shed for a while now every month as one of our regular Sunday lunchtime treats. Although a bit out of the way and easy to overlook Thornes is a small independent garden centre with friendly helpful staff and a good choice of quality products as well as chickens and rhea!

I visit this cafe at least two to three times a week as I work from home. I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience. The food is of a very high standard and the staff are lovely. Their specials are also very good and their home made soups are delicious.

In the area for work today and saw the sign in passing, popped in and found this little tearoom at the bottom of the garden centre, nice clean if basic place and a lovely welcome when we went in. Had coronation chicken sandwiches (yum) and tea plus the home made coleslaw, would highly recommend it if your in the area and you like the quaint style against the usual corporate garden centre places.

I don't have too many issues with the food served here, but the value for money seemed amiss compared to the quality. If you're staying at the hotel this isn't a bad place for dinnder.

The food was nice but there was no salt and pepper on the table no lemon wipes to clean fingers after. Staff was around to seat you and take your order but would not look at you after so could not signal for the bill. Managed to pay at the bar and ask to box up what we could not eat.

We went for lunch on my partner's birthday and from the welcome we received when we walked in, to the friendly goodbye when we left, everything was fantastic. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and excellent value for money. My new favourite pub.
