Very friendly local post office and shop with recent addition of a cafe. Good coffee. Had breakfast which was very good and filling. Dog friendly which is great after a walk.

Not particularly welcoming. Tried ordering a couple of toasties at 3.20pm only to be told the kitchen was shut because they close at 4pm. Seriously? 40 minutes before closing and you can't stick some cheese between a couple of bits of toast? And there were still a couple of big tables eating in the cafe. The woman behind the counter huffed and puffed when I only ordered a couple of drinks instead (what do you want me to do when there's no food available?) then made a palaver about paying by card at the end. Not a nice experience, won't be back.

Post Office, Port Bannatyne, Isle of Bute. From the outside it looks like a wee Post Office, however when you get in it is like the Tardis. A lovely wee tearoom, a shop and a Post Office. My wife and I stopped for a snack on our way to the Colintraive Ferry and had a wonderful meal of fish and chips. Piping hot and delicious! It was served to us by a lovely young lady and we couldn’t fault it or indeed the service. If you visit Bute I highly recommend the Port Bannatyne Post Office and Tearoom.

With a group of blokes, sailing on boat moored in port bannatyne marina. The Post Office is on the seafront just a short walk from the marina boatyard. It is the local grocery shop along with a post office and with an added casual restaurant. Went en-masse for a fantastic full scottish breakfast. We didnt book, just 6 rowdy old blokes rolled up and we were well cared for and fed. Great atmosphere, lovely hosts and a great experience. Food was great and much tea and coffee was quaffed. Thanks guys!

We called here for a quick brunch and the service and food was excellent. The bacon was delicious and the portions are really generous for the price. There is an indoor area to eat but if it isn't raining then sit out in the back garden. Also contains a nice little shop which sells everything from bread to buckets and spades.

A wonderful tearoom in a converted building, very clean, modern and well fitted out. I had the best bacon bap that I have had for a very long time, bacon well cooked and lots of it. The cakes looked homemade and delicious but unfortunately I didn't have space for one. I will definitely be going there again as it makes a superb stop when I am travelling from Norwich to Nottingham. Thoroughly recommend.

We visited twice with kids to enjoy All Day Breakfasts, veggie burger, toasties, scones, chocolate milkshakes.. all very satisfying. We sat at the outdoor seating but noticed people also take their food away. Great value for money and kind staff make it an ideal place to eat and chill.

We were in the lovely and picturesque tiny village of Port Bannatyne in February and it looked as if only the Post Office was open. We thought there might be a coffee machine or a tea and packet of biscuits sort of thing but were very pleasantly surprised by the menu and the delicious home cooked food at reasonable prices. The couple who run the place were really nice too.

Came here with girlfriend and our Labrador for a rest after walking from the ferry terminal. ordered a roll with bacon, a roll with square sausage, a roll with potato scone and a couple of drinks, it came to just over £12. prices seem a little on the expensive side but it was the view and environment that made it worth the price. this is also a pet-friendly cafe with a big water bowl for any thirsty doggies.

Lovely location in Port Bannatyne. Simple fare but nicely served and all in all very welcoming. Large groups of walkers and cyclists use this place so for smaller parties it could feel quite intimidating if you h T it at the wrong time. But cyclists and walkers have a reputation for choosing places which serve good food, so their patronage speaks for itself. Definitely will be back.

Acting as a support for a West Island Way walker I had at various points some time to spend looking around and keeping myself amused. I spotted that this shop had a free cash machine (the actual reason I went in!) and noticed the quality coffee machine sitting in the corner as I entered. Never one to pass up a good coffee opportunity I asked for a cappuccino and a snowball cake. Sitting inside I watched as a parade of local people and sometimes their children came in and collected papers. I also chatted with a very friendly local chap who was in for a cup of tea.An extremely memorable part of my visit to the splendid island of Bute. This fantastic little shop is well worth a look!

I love this place. I live only a few doors down, and my morning ritual - when I'm on the island - is to wander along the pavement with the pooch, get myself a double-shot cappuccino and some toast, and log on to the WiFi to gently ease my way into the day. People pop in, everyone known by name, and local news is exchanged. Is it, possibly, the last remaining community post office in Britain? I hope not - every community should have one. This is not a restaurant. It's not a gimmicky tourist shop. It's not fine dining, or stencils of hearts on cappuccino froth, or bells and whistles - it's a wee haven with a stunning view across the bay, good coffee, fancy tea, toasties, and cheerful service.

At last, someone who knows how to make a business thrive on Bute. This is a charming little village shop that sells more or less everything. Port Bannatyne used to have many shops but this excellent little shop has managed to cram more or less everything all those old shops sold into a small space. It is run a by a charming couple for whom nothing is too much trouble and their coffee is sublime. I heartily recommend.

We took a walk to Port Bannatyne from Rothesay, this in itself was a great walk along the sea front all the way. When we arrived at Port Bannatyne, all we wanted was a cup of tea. We were rewarded with so much more. Not just a cup of tea, but a pot of ("Suki") Tea (Leaf's not bags) that was as good if not better than i have had in any cafe. There is so much in this "little" store, and the people who served us were not just friendly and sociable and helpful to us, but also are clearly an important service provider to the local people. I was so keen to post a review, that had nobody done one previously I would have started up one of this place.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
