The best bit of cod I have had from a fish and chip shop for a long time , really good quality fish, and chips were good too. Hope they keep the standard up and will definitely be using again .

New Business review updated ****Update March 2024 new owners new business.**** New score would be 5 stars but as new some issues re queueing / ordering to be ironed out (with 2 doors but only 1 in use as people gathered in a random clump inside where no one knows who is waiting to order/who has ordered) and extra large cod was 2 (presumably medium?) pieces of cod not one extra large piece which would be preferred. £ high though. Large chips should be spilling out a large food box for the price. Minor quibbles as overall staff are friendly & quality is better than the rest in the area. With a few tweaks easily a 5 star experience.

Polite staff, good service, fabulous fish and chips, we ate in and were given gherkins, pickled onions and bread while we waited. Always go there when in the area.

Walked in without a mask, one step through the door and was literally screamed at by a member of staff. I am exempt from the mask rule due to personal conditions, however was too frightened to say anything. Having quickly given my order I had to stand there and listen to further remarks about people standing outside the shop. Very dissapointed by the complete lack of patience and utter rudeness displayed.

A great meal but incredibly frustrating how despite advertising that they accept all the major credit cards via a sticker on the door, they actually don’t and choose to operate cash only. Apparently credit card use is only in the restaurant although we heard the owner telling a staff member too inform guests in the restaurant that it was cash only. You could tell this was standard operation for them and not just a technical issue as they clearly prefer cash for the business dealings. Would not likely return.

Awful, awful! Scampi - puffed up batter - tiny, slimy undercooked fish inside. Inedible!! £18.00 worth of food in recycling bin.

The headline says it all, this place is great for an eat-in or take-away meal. Keep up the great work guys, what you do is just what people want, great food, great service, great value.

Overall the place is pretty good and the staff engaging but the chips for take away have dropped in quality a bit. Instead of a consistent 1 cm square type chip you get a lot of much thinner, and mostly dried out, type chips so a lot are wasted. Fish has generally been very good except sometimes you feel it's been cooked a bit longer than needed.

My in-laws had a bad experience here a couple of years ago but thought we would give it another try. Big mistake. Everything was absolutely fine until they tried to overcharge me with the bill. My children had a kids meal which was a soft drink, main, beans or mushy peas AND vanilla ice cream (milkshake 90p extra). After their mains, both my children chose to have a milkshake in stead of ice cream for an extra 90p but when the bill came, I had been charged the full cost of two milkshakes (£5.80). I queried it very politely only to be told that I couldn't have the milkshakes for 90p because they'd had a soft drink. I pointed it out on the menu that was correct and he just kept arguing with me!! Apparently, even though it says 'AND' vanilla ice cream (or milkshake for 90p extra) it doesn't actually mean that, it meant OR! So it was MY fault for thinking that AND actually means AND. My poor children got really upset that the guy was arguing with me. He finally backed down but we will NEVER, EVER go there again and I would suggest it is avoided at all costs, particularly if you have children.

We visited this fish and chip restaurant recently and were pleasently surprised. We stepped in and were greeted immediately and shown to our seats in the window. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - I also noticed that the place was scrupiously clean and tidy. We were immediately shown menus and the menus are clean and tidy because they are under sealed glass on each table. We chose the pensioners deal - that was pickles- fish and chips, a cup of tea and bread and butter - think from memory it was around 6.99. The fish and chips were served freshly cooked with salad and coleslaw - I havent tasted such good fish and chips for a very long time - the food was freshly cooked as we waited. The whole eating experience along with the music being played and the staff service - was more than both myself and Derek ever dreamed of. We will certainly be returnibng again in the near future

We had a lovely lunch the fish was well cooked nice light batter the fish inside was nice and moist and yummy plenty of fresh bread and butter and pickles. We also had to big pots of tea . The staff were really attentive and nothing was too much trouble all there food is fried in ground nut oil which is an added bonus. This will not be our last visit . Well done for keeping a spotlessly clean shop and eating place.

After travelling for a few hours to our friends and staying overnight. We decided to eat locally and decided to go for good old fish and chips eating in at this restaurant/takeaway What a Great evening with fantastic service. I had the "Posh Combo" Scampi, Calamari & Whitebait served with chips and salad. Thumbs up to these guys See you soon

Introduced to Posh Plaice by a friend and so glad I was. We had ‘pensioners’ lunch and it was fantastic. Not over battered, no skin or bones in fish, and piping hot. Complimentary drink (I had a lovely coffee and my friend a Diet Coke),French bread and butter plus fresh pickles. All the staff were lovely. Will certainly be going back soon.

Table service at the weekend: friendly service, good bread and pickles, cod was moist (batter a bit ‘flat’ and moist), chips aren’t oily (perhaps could be a bit crispier and hotter straight out the frier rather than a bit warm), calamari a bit thin with thick batter (really needed to be hand cut and dipped in the batter). Fine fish and chips, but we’ve had better.

3rd I are here in 3 years it’s terrible. Only reason not a one star is because it’s decor is nice and it’s clean but the food is awful batter is cloggy on inside flat and not crisp on outside and tasteless and fish inside is over cooked. Chips are dry even though I stood and waited 10 minutes for my order to be freshly cooked. Scampi is awful tastes of nothing no scampi just bland batter thought this would be the case as I had calamari here before and that just taste of batter with no actual fish. There is a sign that says traditional fish n chips lol they are taking the mick. Awful awful awful. These Turkish people know nothing about traditional British food my own fault for going back if another chippy opened close by they would be out of business in 6 months

We were a group of eight adults so we reserved our tables in advance. The staff and service were friendly and efficient throughout. Our meals were cooked to order and brought out promptly. The fish was fresh, the portion very ample, and unlike comments in some reviews, the chips were neither greasy nor cold. Everything was crisp and tasty, including the cole slaw and garnish. The best deal is the "small" fish 'n chips, which is actually quite a large piece of cod. Everyone in our group was pleased--will definitely return for more.

Just moved to the area went in with my wife tonight for a takeaway would honestly say bang average chips ok fish ok calamari tasteless just like Eaton mouthful of batter no squid texture. Would pop in for a portion of chips but nothing else would only go again if absolutely starving

First time I gave been and would never go again or recommend to anyone else. Fish must and was overly cooked. Very hard and as if re-cooked. Chips agsin extremely hard and must have been from previous weeks. Terrible. ..suggest get frozen from a supermarket!

My husband and I had two cod and chips to take home about 4pm on a Tuesday afternoon. All I can say is that the chips looked and tasted as though they were originally cooked the day before and the cod was over-battered and greasy. Although they are supposed to cook to order the the customer can't see the actually cooking and the meal was placed in a box so we couldn't see it before taking it home. At £13. a very expensive box. Surly staff over the counter - thought they were doing us a favour. We are the customer

Fish is always excellent. Chips are always adequate. Price is high. Greeting usually matter of fact, sometimes surly.

Lived in the area for a few years and never tried this place until recently. I would say its the best fish and chips I've eaten in a while and didn't know it was right on my door step. The price is very good as well and cheaper than most other chippy's in the area. They also pack your food in boxes so it keeps it from getting squashed and turning the chips into mashed potato.

My grandson and I ate in at the Posh Plaice.they pride themselves of things cooked fresh to order. Our food came up within 5 minutes, people who were in their before yes we're still waiting. My chicken was hard and only managed to eat a few strands of it but was mostly bone. The fish batter was dark and hard, the fish dry. These foods had obviously been waiting in the hot plate for some time. When I complained the chicken had only just come out if the Freyr, it's hadn't. I paid my bill but they have lost three regular local customers

Visited tonight with the family. The food was very good and the curry sauce was a great addition. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to my kids (1 @ 3 years 1 @ 6 months). We will be going again soon.

It has to said that my wife and I have been visiting this restaurant for a number of years because of the consistant high standard. The food (we usually have a small cod etc.) is always great with no strange after-taste or indigestion. The restaurant has a real "fish restaurant" feel about it because of the decor. All of the staff have always been pleasant and appropriately dressed. We cannot make any comment about the rest of the menu but I suspect it would also be good!

Have always had the best fish and chips here, but on Tuesday I ordered a portion of sausage and chips. The chips were dried up and crunchy and the sausage looked like it had been sitting in the hot cupboard all day. I certainly hope this fast food restaurant has not let its standards slip.

This is a superb Fish and Chips shop, every time I visited the place, the food is freshly cooked and served well by helpful staff, this is wether it's Take Away or sitting down eating in. The food is of high quality, a very good choice and some good healthy options, including your fish grilled instead of deep fried. I can happily recommend this place for both Take away and for eating in.

I have come to this fish and chip restaurant for years. I haven't yet been in the sit down part of the restaurant,only take away. Friendly staff,clean and welcoming restaurant. The taste of their food is lovely, each to their own but I reckon it's the best fish and chips around! They also cook southern fried chicken and have a variety to choose from the menu.

Every time we've come here my family and I have always enjoyed the food, The service has always been excellent. And there always over friendly.. The only fault I can find with them is there abit tight on the portion of chips

Went there on a recommendation from my pilatus teacher. Awful. There is no other way to describe this food. We ordered a large cod, a small cod, a large portion of chips and a portion of calamari. The only tasty thing about what we received was the wedge of lemon. The fish was dry, very greasy with an awful batter. I dont know how long it had been sitting under a lamp. Nowadays the quality fish and chips places cook to order, not this restaurant. The chips were also about the worst I have tasted for as long as I can remember, dry and reheated many times over. We asked for a large portion of chips between us as usually you get too much and it is wasteful. In this place a large portion is equivalent to a regular portion I have had from other similar establishments. then again given the awful quality may not such a bad thing - less to throw away.The calamari I would say was more than 50% batter - rubbery and yukky! And to cap it all, considering this was the first time we went there, the staff were not exactly welcoming.

We have takeaway from here every Friday night and it's so good it's become our family's traditional Fish & Chip day - our grandchildren love to visit on a Friday for Jumbo Sausage or Saveloys or Scampi only downside - avoid race weeks - the food doesn't seem as good

My Husband and I paid another visit to this establishment for a Friday after work fish n chips supper. The quality was just as good as our first visit. It was busy, so we expected a delay, but it wasn't too long before we could tuck in.Fresh fish and good service. They had 2 polite young men waiting on, and plates were cleared away quickly once we indicated we had finished. Will go back with the family soon.Why not give them a try, because you won't be disappointed.

Well ...... what can I say?Came here on recommendation from a local business owner.Premises are nice and clean, friendly family run fish n chips restautant/takeaway. Good value for money. Recently licensed to sell alcohol. Fish was lovely and fresh with an all round crispy batter.Would love to bring the family for a cheekymid-week supper.Thoroughly recommend to anyone who is looking for good quality fish n chips. Worth driving that little bit further.

Visited for lunch as looked impressive from the outside. Have to say these are the worse chips we have ever tasted, definitely had been reheated over and over again. They charge you 10p for a sachet of the cheapest tomato sauce that doesn't give you even a teaspoon full. The fish wasn't great with more batter than actual meat and they charge London prices but without the quality. We also didn't get a please and thank you they were more interested in moving on to taking the next customers order. Don't be fooled by the posh frontage, may be this is why they charge London prices.

The fish and chips served here are probably the best in the area. Usually I get soggy chips from other chippies but here they are crispy with no soggy oil all over them. The battered cod is also just a good. Recommended.

We tried the Posh Plaice two years ago. We were not impressed. Today we were in the area so thought it worth another try. Phoned first to be sure that Skate was on the menu.My wife and I love Skate. The restaurant was ok. The waiter friendly and helpful.The Skate was awful. It seemed undercooked and not much taste. The chips were just ok. Another fish and chip restaurant not far away is the much better Seine Rigger. We have eaten here a number of times. Best quality Skate always good even if the serving staff are not so friendly and they stop taking lunch orders at 1.30pm.
