The Porter & Sorter in Croydon

I cannot believe people are giving this place 5 stars. The wooden floors have lumps of some kind of black gunge on them and the overall place looks shabby. We went there for lunch before catching a train to Gatwick. We were there for 12 o’clock when it opened so it wasn’t busy I ordered a club sandwich for me and a rump steak for my wife. After 40 minutes We asked where our food was as we had a train to catch and the barman said it shouldn’t be long. 5 minutes later it came. However the steak looked like it had been microwaved and was really tough. We complained and the barman just took the steak away and we heard no more. When we came to pay our bill I asked what had happened about the steak. The answer was an offer of 10% off the bill! I said this was ridiculous as the steak was sent back but I was told that she had eaten the chips! and the barman had tasted the steak and it was fine and maybe there was a problem with my wife’s teeth!!! I asked who was in charge and the manageress came out and increased the to 30% off!!! I said I can’t believe their attitude and was told that I was the one with a bad attitude. Finally I flatly refused to pay for a steak that we had sent back. This place is a dump and the staff have a ridiculous attitude to any complaint. Avoid at all costs. I see previous bad reviews of this place have received insulting replies from the management so I am expecting the same.

Brandon was amazing and funny, he absolutely made the night….The whole staff in general are amazing. Nikita was very attentive too.

This place is total crap. The website says it opens at 11:00. It doesn’t so we were left out in the cold waiting until 12:00. The web site says it has 6 real ales available. It doesn’t. There are only 3 hand pumps and the bar person had a lame excuse of out of stock. In fact the pumps were covered up. The welcome was apalling. Not a smile or hello. NEVER AGAIN

I went to the Porter and Sorter with friends after work for a few drinks and food. Service was great from Zak who was working behind the bar. Zak sorted out the pool table for us and was so attentive with the food and drinks we had ordered. Definitely would stop here again before getting the train home. Great location for the station!

Worst food I’ve ever paid for. Understaffed and lack any customer service skills and after meeting the manager I understood why. Awful place, go elsewhere

Went on the last Friday of the month for a catch-up with friends. There was a good atmosphere and then around 9 a DJ came on playing lots of old skool songs and we were able to have a dance. The staff were really friendly and the vibe was happy all evening.

Wow. The atmosphere at the Porter and sorter is unmatched, I came here for a quick drink with my friends and ended up staying for hours! Super amazing service and the most delicious food. The Mac and cheese , steak baguette and ultimate chicken burger exceeded my expectations well above what I was expecting. A big shout out to the chefs Abi and Mikey who personally brought our food out!

I've been here for several business meetings and it's always brilliant service. Ideally located just outside east Croydon station so easy to get to! The food is always spot on, the staff polite and the atmosphere is always buzzing. I'd recommend here for anything! Looking forward to their beach party!
