Gracias.

First time in The Porter, very welcoming and attentive staff.quality of the food was excellent particularly the crab starter. The duck breast was cooked and sliced to perfection accompanied by a lovely gratin dauphinois.A wide selection of delicious regional and french cheeses followed by an excellent vanilla ice cream served with baileys irish liquor. The service could not be faulted,we had pre ordered so serving was very efficient.A good range of wines to suit all tastes and budget.Nice to see a decent best bitter on offer.

I like Bath; not just the architecture, or the landmarks or the sights, but the myriad of places to eat. So it's a bit disappointing when you recommend somewhere to meet up and enjoy lovely grub with friends and the place you nominate turns out to be a bit lacking... and this is what I thought of Clayton's Kitchen, I'm afraid. Nothing wrong with the quality of food, just not enough of it, and too many large boards and dishes to fit onto the table. I just don't understand that whole concept. Yes, one board for bread and olives or for cheese but for fish and chips? The plate was bigger than two settings so it was a scramble to get everything for all the diners in front of them! And don't start me on the lack of vegetables - if you order roast dinner then the chunks of beef should come with hunks of lovely veg not just a couple of spoonfuls. Hungry boys need feeding.

We booked an afternoon tea in one of the private rooms here for a hen party in February. We arrived to a beautiful room, were free to arrive early and decorate it however we liked, play our own music, and were given excellent service throughout. The food was delicious, and the service was incredible, we were left to ourselves but checked on regularly for topping up drinks etc. The head waiter was, in particular, brilliant - extremely personable and accommodating. It was the perfect way to end the hen party and we would highly recommend it. Thank you!

Beautiful little restaurant within walking distance of the abbey. Quality of the food and service is amazing - Michelin star detail and quality without Michelin star prices. Very interesting range on the menu and waiter was happy to discuss our choices and make recommendations according to our discussion. Décor is lovely. Not a huge number of covers so it feels very personal and intimate. Not a lot of space between tables where we were sat though - had to squeeze through to get to my seat with the help of fellow diner who thoughtfully pulled next table away. Saying that, the tables are large enough that you don't actually feel hemmed in or squashed. Jazz trio were on the evening we visited which was a lovely surprise - the music was gentle, not too loud and enhanced our visit. Really enjoyed it. Recommend booking in advance.

4 people, 2 had the lunch menu and 2 a la carte. The quality and quantity is the same making the lunch menu spectacular value if there's something on it for you. The quality of the cooking and attention to detail is Michelin Star level. The food is faultless and the flavours are wow! The tables and chairs are not the most comfortable, everything is a bit of a tight squeeze. None of us are fat, but both blokes were over 6ft, with 2 svelte chicks. The food is so good, I'd like a more comfortable chair and a slighter bigger table. I don't think they realise how good their food is. Decor is very nice though and the service is always very attentive and friendly. Went because we always love the food and were celebrating a big event so I ordered a £60 bottle of Bordeaux, which was truly abysmal unfortunately. It wasn't corked either. Fantastic food, great service, incredible value (food).

We were a party of eight. Service was excellent. Advise from the Maitre D' was good and well received. Food was delivered in good time and our drinks were replenished in good time too. We all had different dishes and everyone was positive about their meal. This was a Wednesday evening and I was surprised how busy it was, which speaks volumes for the place. When we were finished the Maitre D' even went to the trouble of booking us into a private area of a nearby club, to have a final drink. A nice touch and much appreciated. Would definitely go back.

We happened upon The Porter in Bath, England as we were looking for a quiet place to rest and have lunch after a day of sightseeing on foot. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. The special of the day featured white truffles in season and it was outstanding. Our server was both friendly and very professional. The subdued setting allowed us to enjoy our meal and have conversation at a normal level. The Porter seems also to be known as Clayton's Kitchen. Whatever the name, it was excellent.

We spent a long time trawling through all the restaurants in Bath on TripAdvisor etc. For a well deserved break and reluctantly decided to try Claytons kitchen @ the Porter and we certainly didn't regret it, the service was outstanding, the waiter was very attentive and friendly and the food was just outstanding and delicious my partner said it was the best peice of duck she had ever tasted, we will definitely be returning on our next trip to Bath

Visited recently for afternoon tea in this beautifully refurbed building that offers a multitude of areas to eat and dine. The afternoon tea was lovely, beautiful sandwiches and good, imaginative cake. The scones were sadly a drawback, not enough cream / jam and very overdone. The coffee was also a little luke warm.

We absolutely love The Porter. The location is very central. We are always so well looked after and the food is not only exceptional (consistently) but very good value for money too. Important to book a table even on a weekday lunch as it does get booked up. A very pleasant experience all round and highly recommended.

Had a lovely meal at The Porter for my partners birthday. We were very well looked after by Milla. Milla acknowledged Chris's birthday with a sprakler in his dessert and complementary glasses of prosecco. We would definitely return on our next visit to Bath.

I went for dinner to The Porter and enjoyed a very nice meal! Had a crab salad as an appetizer and had the fish of the day for main. Lovely flavours and friendly staff. My only reason this restaurant is not a 5/5 is the table we had (group of 9) was in the middle of the place and i didn't feel like we had a intimate dinner our whole group. I believe this restaurant would be better for smaller groups.

Went there after our daughters graduation ceremony and the food was exactly as we had hoped for. Very good choice and the food was delicious - There were five of us in our party and we all had different dishes which was interesting. Without exception everyone felt that it was one of the nicest meals we had had during the 4 years we have been visiting Bath during our daughters studies. Now she's finished at Uni I need to find a plausible excuse to revisit - Watching Bath play rugby at the Rec could well provide the answer!

What a wonderful place. Great food in a really cosy atmosphere with excellent staff all round. We would recommend this restaurant most highly for all those visiting Bath. If you look inside you may think it is full but it has two floors of great experience and well worth a visit.

The full English breakfast was clearly entirely or in part reheated in a microwave. After eating more than 6 English breakfasts in the UK this week, this has to be the worst. The French toast was excellent tho… the prices advertised outside are lower than the prices inside. There’s also a service charge when you pay.

We booked Henry’s to celebrate the night after our wedding as we’d seen so many good reviews and the menu looked lovely. Unfortunately we didn’t have the experience we expected and cannot recommend. We both had the set menu which was all fine. Then the main course of beef cheek came, mine was lovely and cooked well. However my husband’s was inedible and we literally couldn’t cut through the meat it was so tough. We showed the waiter and he completely agreed and took the plate back to the kitchen. Then came back a few minutes later, with the same plate. He told us the chef insists this is how it should be served and refused to do anything…We were shocked!!! The waiter was so embarrassed and agreed that the food wasn’t right, but the chef wouldn’t take it back so there was nothing he could do! The waiter handed it as well as he could and took our wine off our bill to compensate us, but I was shocked that the kitchen staff had put him in that position rather than the chef come out and talk to us himself, when the meat clearly wasn’t right (I had the same meal and my meat was cooked fine…..). My husbands meal was sent back untouched and we shared mine… As we had the set menu, we had a few course to go still and we just wanted to leave…. It put a dampner on whole the evening which was meant to be a special dinner, and created such an awkward atmosphere. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
