Great little find! Out for the day and really fancied Sunday lunch. Hit the jackpot here! Made so welcome by Lauren and her staff. Nothing too much trouble. "Of course, no problem" response to every question. Loved that serve 2 sizes of meals as we tend to waste so much nowadays. The roast was delicious, real food cooked well and served with a smile. They even provided me with a takeaway dessert as I had no room for it at the time. We highly recommend.

OMG, we were staying in the area and looked for a dog friendly pub for Sunday lunch. This pub was outstanding. We sat outside in a covered verander which was fine for any weather. The pork and beef were cooked so they melted in your mouth, the selection of vegetables was delightful, all very tasty. We were so full but had to get a dessert as the crumble was also 100%. Would defiantly recommend but make sure you book.

Ok. Where does one start when you have got to give an establishment 10 stars out of five! Having been here a few days earlier whilst on holiday we decided to come back for a Sunday roast...and oh boy are we glad we did. One word of warning...if you are not a big eater don't order the large size - I did and struggled! But I did manage a desert. At last somewhere that serves up a decent size dessert not a titchy little ramekin dish. So as I say 10 stars out of 5!!

I come here quite a lot with my friends (who I was with this time) or with my husband & also family. I have been coming here for around 30 years really with its various different owners & these ones have not let this pub down since they have been here. The reason that I come here so often is that it's a lovely cosy pub with a bar area you can also eat in if you wish & also a comfy closed off dining room area if you would rather eat in there. It also has a large garden with picnic tables dotted around it for when it's sunny or dry & there is also a covered open sided gazebo area with heaters in for the winter if you don't fancy being indoors. It's open all year round anyway so if it's raining or windy it's perfect to go in there. The pub is dog friendly & provides water outside & treats in the bar. There's a good sized car park too. The staff have always been really friendly & helpful if you ever have a query about anything. They cater for allergies (both my parents have serious nut allergies & my mum also is lactose intolerant & has other issues & this has never been a problem. Neither have ever been ill from eating here which is no small feat with all their issues! The food is really really tasty & good sized portions. They offer smaller appetite meals for some of the choices too which are a good size also. The puddings are to die for! Drinks are a bit pricey but they are in most places nowadays. Never just turn up here, always book as it gets extremely busy, especially at the weekends & throughout the summer months. You might be lucky for going outside though as usually there's a table free out there with no time limit on them. If I had to be fair & say of a negative here (apart from it barely has a functioning bus route lol) it would be that they do 'sittings' for every booked table (including the outdoors gazebo) so you can't just spend a whole evening or afternoon relaxing & socialising with who you come to eat or drink with. It can feel a little like a production line because of this. I guess because it gets so busy here it gives more people a chance to eat here with these 2 hour slots, but then it kind of ruins the ambience of relaxing with the people you are with as you are clock-watching after a while & it can make you feel rushed. That's the only negative I can think of though. If they're not busy & no ones booked after you, you can stay where you are, but that's not guaranteed. We have had to leave on quite a few occasions & go & carry on somewhere else as the next people are ready to come in & take our table for their own slot. So just bear that in mind for the kind of visit you will want to do when you come here. But it's a lovely place on the whole & well worth a visit whether you live here like me or are visiting. Definitely a pub not to miss & they do cracking roasts as well!

We popped in for a meal mid afternoon on a Thursday as they serve food all day. Nice welcome from the landlord who showed us to our table. Drinks all good. This is a fullers pub so reasonable choice. Good menu choices. Food was really tasty and good. Proper chicken, ham and leek pie which had lovely chunky bits of meat in it served with choice of potatoes. I had chips which were good. Others had a really decent macaroni cheese and garlic bread and a lovely Caesar salad. Great thing is the menu has a smaller portion for most things for those not so hungry. We didn't have pudding but saw others in pub who did they looked lush. Noted on menu a nice choice of lunch sandwiches etc. Great to see some locals in the pub enjoying a pint. Proper village pub with decent food. Recommend a visit.

We received a warm welcome when arriving and the pub has a cosy traditional feel which we love. We arrived at 12.30 and there was no delay in service. I would recommend booking as all the tables had received boards on with atleast 2 sittings. My son has a dairy allergy which can make eating out a pain or he has the same food everywhere. It was a nice to see dairy free/vegan options available. He had a jacket potato with beans and cheese. It was a good size potato which was oven baked, loaded with beans and cheese severed with side salad. My partner had the homemade steak and ale pie with mash and veg, he said it was the best he has had for a very long time. I had roast and couldnt decided between lamb or beef so had both (pork and vegan nut roast are also an option). It was severed with roast potatoes, parsnips, mash potato, veg (carrots, broccoli, red cabbage and mashed swede) stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. My son had a pudding, which is a treat for him (due to allergy) he had vegan chocolate and caramel fudge cake served with dairy free chocolate ice cream. He said it was really good. All the portion are of good size, we all left feeling very full. We highly recommend and will visit again soon.

We wasn’t disappointed a lovely welcome, shown to our table and the menu was full of lovely homemade dishes and best of all they offer smaller dishes for your main meal so you can fit 3 courses in or good if you are not a big eater. Plenty of variety and catered for allergies as well. The specials board was full of wonderful dishes too choose from. Hubby had the pie and I had gluten free burger with chilli con carne both were amazing, hubby also went for the butterscotch pudding and loved it. A brief review for a brief visit. We called in here on a Thursday just after lunchtime to suss the place out as a potential Sunday lunch venue. We were met by two charming young ladies who went through Covid protocols with us before we sat down in the outside lean to / porch (not quite sure how to describe it but a large covered area, which was great from a Covid point of view as it was outside, but still sheltered enough to be pleasant on what was a chilly afternoon in October). We asked only for three starters (we just fancied a nibble) – so hardly a big food order but nonetheless served with the sort of grace you would expect if we had ordered a feast. And it was all very tasty. All in all a very pleasant experience – so we announced that as they had shown what a good hostelry this was, we would return for Sunday lunch. No chance! Fully booked. Well not a surprise on reflection. Next time we are on the Isle of Wight we will book well in advance – clearly the locals have formed the same view as us that this is a very good pub.

Great mash and veg .... but...Watched two tables empty and refill without being sanitised!!!!! Garden drinkers walked in to get refills instead of stay put for service. Only saw sanitizer on bar which we used on exit as worried who had previously been on our table. Having been many times before, we chose to go to celebrate my sons birthday. Didn't realise it was under new ownership and what a disappointment. This is a pub that does food and yet our server didn't even know the difference between lager and cider. When our drinks arrived one was missing and had been forgotten about.Food prices are similar to other pubs in the area, but the food quality and sizes was well below standard. I ordered cottage pie which, when it came, looked like a plate of tinned meat with a spoonful of cheesy mash on top. None of our meals were worth the money. To make it worse, I woke during the night and was sick. Definitely would not recommend anymore, which is a shame, as it used to be a great place to eat.

We could find no fault with any of the food, which was fresh-cooked and delicious. We chose an oaked Australian Shiraz for our wine - unusual to oak Shiraz, but it was superb. A lovely meal. Coming out of the Covid-19 Apocalypse, we decided as a group of friends to journey across the Isle of Wight to have dinner together for the first time in over 6 months. We looked into the measures implemented by the management/landlord and decided to give them a go.Being a beautiful clear and sunny Thursday evening we decided to phone up and see if there were any spaces available for 3 persons having dinner. We were informed that the restaurant was very busy, however we were willing we could be able to eat around 8.30. Perfect for us as we needed time to arrange travel and get ready. We were greeted by the Owner/Landlord who was polite, and had a great sense of humour. We were sat inside due to the dwindling light and the cold of the evening starting to set, and were positioned by the bar. Our waiters and waitresses were very well trained, polite, very knowledgeable and were very willing to put up with my (what can come across as) very irksome questions. Top marks there! We ordered a starter and a main apiece as well as a few drinks. It is fair at this point to clarify that we like our food. 2 of us are chefs and can cook a good plate of food. What was served to us this evening was an absolute masterclass on how to cook and present a perfect plate of food. 2 of us ordered Scallops, which we have had before at other restaurants and charged a fair amount more for, but having them on creamed leeks and perfectly cooked and seasoned was a dream come true. The 3rd also assures me that the Bruchetta was of the top quality we were experiencing, (she wouldn't share).Mains consisted of 2 mixed grills. both cooked rare, and yet again, words nigh on fail me. I had the red wine sauce which was utterly divine. rich and deep flavour which married perfectly with the vast selection of meats on offer. We were impressed at the choices of sides and sauces on offer. What astounded us was the value for money, especially in comparison to other restaurants serving a comparative menu. Not only was the quality far exceeding the competition it was better value. £18 for a mixed grill here rather than one around 5 miles away (with a beach view admittedly) being priced at over £30!After feasting and enjoying the company of each other and staff, regrettably we did not have the appetite for a dessert, but rest assured, we will be coming back for more!

The food was never the issue as it is always second to none there. Shelley gave us a huge discount which was lovely of her. I am so impressed with their swift reply and how they handled everything. I think its so important to place another review to let people know that this pub, are invested in their customers and that it is important to them that they go away happy. We’ve been promising ourselves that when we had the opportunity a visit to the highly recommended Pointer Inn was needed. We booked and turned up 30 min early with a view not to be seated early, but to have a drink before our lunch. The barmaid said “who’s next?” The bar was full. I pointed to the other people before me at the end of the bar. She replied “they’re just waiting for their tables” I said we were booked for 2pm. She then disappeared. She came back with it looks like a diary. She then disappeared again. She came back. I said could we have a drink while we waited. She said she wouldn’t be a minute and disappeared again. She walked up the bar, back down the bar. She then got a glass of water. She then had a load of cutlery and disappeared again and I can only presume laid up a table. She then came back with the diary again, this time with another member of staff. They were talking about another colleague making reservations and not knowing where we were going to sit. I was completely being ignored with no eye contact or any form of good service. At this point I was getting wound up. The barmaid then said to her colleague could he serve and he asked the customer who had just approached the bar next to me! It wasn’t his fault or the other member of staffs fault either. She then said ‘we can squeeze you in!” I’d rather been told they had made a mistake. She was still blaming who ever made the booking, muttering under her breath rather than dealing with the situation in hand. The staff were stretched, not enough of them. The pub was heaving and queues for the bar we’re getting bigger and being ignored and I got the impression by her poor customer service that I was the issue....!That was it I’d had enough and we walked out. If they had said. We have made an error but if you bare with us we will get you seated as soon as possible. Now what would you like to drink? It’s not hard..... The Portland Inn Gurnard to the rescue...

Its not the easiest place to get into with a wheelchair but there are always offers to help.My wife only had the scallops starter so she had plenty of room for the dessert and I had Lasagne. Spot on as usual but I would like to add that the owner Rob has a signature dish of his local meat pie. I think he should have a joint signature dish of his chips. They were the best chips by far of ANY that I have eaten in a shop, pub, restaurant or even at home and believe me I am the biggest critic of chips that I know. Reading this again, it seems rather sad that of all the wonderful food this establishment produces that I should harp on about chips. However it has to be said that if I could have taken them home with me, they would have replaced the sticks of rock souvenirs.

Disappointing visit to the Pointers last night, which I am sad to write, as we have not had a bad experience before. Was busy as always, and we were a group of 11 which can be a test obviously. The young lady who served us was great, really attentive and friendly. Issues we had were regarding the pork belly which myself and one other of us had. I had noted before ordering the dish that it has been changed to include scallops and no longer has black pudding, but was disappointed to find the portion size seems to have reduced, and at £16 this dish was not one of the cheapest on the menu. Badly needed some fresh veg with it in my view. Worse still the crackling that came nicely perched atop the dish was so hard I could have knocked someone out with it...! We brought this to the attention of one of the waiting staff, who then reported it to a manager, all of whom, strangely, didn’t seem to know how to handle a complaint.. we got a sorry from the manager and the offer of some pork scratching s from the bar initially, which I thought was an unusual resolution...! One of us did get some replacement crackling, so fair enough as far as that goes, it just didn’t feel to me like our complaint was handled in the right way, and this from a customer who tends not to complain. In summary, the visit fell well short of expectations and I would be reluctant to visit again based on this experience. Would hope this is an isolated incident.

Village pub with a busy restaurant - in summer you need to book. That is because the food is excellent and prices very reasonable. Small portions available and perhaps advisable unless you have a big appetite.

Booked this lunch 2 weeks before we arrived in IOW. This place is out of the way but well worth going to. Asked for a seat in the veranda area. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday. They were extremely busy but we were served drinks given menus and told our table was named and ready for us. We ordered our food and it was served within 5 to 10 minutes. Presentation, quality and quantity is excellent. We also had desserts which we don’t normally have but again excellent quality and presentation. Would definitely recommend and will be going back mid week for their famous meat pit, can’t wait.

The pub is local to a friend who we visit. We never fail to take her to the Pointer as the food is superb. This time was no exception and I convinced her to have a 'Bordeaux Burger' which was beef, bacon, brie and caramelised onion in a lovely soft bun with amazing chips. Not for small appetites or calorie counters but great none the less. I had one too and managed to follow it with a stunning pudding, as did we all. They keep a nice pint and the service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable for such great quality food. Keep it up, I can't wait to get back.

I really like this pub. Terrific bar service even when busy. I decided to have a meal there and chose the hamburger with the works. Huge thing came - I am always puzzled how to eat these towers. I did manage it even if I did sneak a piece or two to my dog under the table. Ah, the table, costs them one star. No excuse for rickety tables that spill your lager because they are so wobbly.

Because we were staying in Newchurch it made sense to check out the local pub, so glad we did, it’s recommended that you book because the food is very good, fish pie for my wife Jo on this occasion, fish and chips for me, (huge btw ) and it’s popular with locals being in a small village, bar area really nice, great friendly service, we chose to sit in the garden to the rear of the pub which is also nice, undercover area too - we can fully recommend the Pointer Inn, when on the island again we’d definitely visit again - well done all

A friends and family lunch. Booked up for this date 3 weeks beforehand as it is a very popular place to get a table. Our roast came with a huge Yorkshire pudding and separate vegetables. Unless you have a huge appetite ask for a small portion, as servings are very generous. Two of us asked for a mini pudding for dessert which again are very generous. Asked for a doggy bag for the left meat.

This is my favourite pub/restaurant on the Island, so I booked my milestone birthday celebration here at lunchtime on Saturday 23rd Feb. There were 23 guests and staff provided us with exclusive use of the dining room area, which - for privacy - can be closed off from the main bar area via double doors. Staff were very well organised and served all guests at the same time - no-one was left waiting for their food to arrive. Everyone said how great the food and service was. Staff were happy to accommodate our requirements - we arranged to have the area decorated with balloons etc., in advance. We weren't at all rushed and the service was well-paced. My birthday celebrations went without a hitch and it was a truly memorable day - not just for me, but all of my guests. Thank you to everyone at The Pointer Inn!

We have been going here for many years, but although the food is unfailingly fine, changing the wine list a couple of years ago was, from our point of view, a disaster. Today, at lunch, we had a bottle of decent Rioja Reserva, though with no trace of oak or vanillin, but paid £28.00 for it. Several good wines were available on the previous list for less than this. As always, all four courses were highly enjoyable and service was efficient. A visit to Brading (more of a journey for us) will yield better wines and food of comparable standard at The Yarbridge, for a similar price. Change your wine list back - please, Pointer!!

This place is famous for its views across the Solent, but only in the summer. In the winter the windows are always steamed up giving you near to no visibility outside. We didn’t eat but the menu looks good and average prices for the area. Drinks were more expensive than the Seaview Hotel just around the corner. +£1 per drink on gin & tonic. It was November on a Friday evening and all tables were reserved. We did sit at one of their best tables for our drink ‘Captain Ted’s Table’ and it was wobbly as hell. Felt like it was going to give way at any time. Come on this is an easy fix.

We have been here many times over the years and looked forward to our visit again this year. What a disappointment. We had a cream tea which consisted of a pot of tea, 2 scones, butter, cream and jam. The jam and cream pots were half the size they used to be and the butter was barely there, adequate enough for one scone but certainly not two. The jug of milk supplied did not have enough milk for one cup of tea and we had to ask for extra. I do not drink tea and asked for my tea to be substituted with coffee, big mistake, it was undrinkable. Went we went to pay we were told 'cash only' and I was lucky to find some cash in the bottom of my bag. This should be made clear when you enter and before you order as a lot of people do not carry cash. Our experience was so different to every other visit we wondered if there were 'new owners' but overheard the owner telling other visitors that she had been there 17 years. Sadly will not be returning.

Remember coming to this pub with my family when I was ten so had to come back 40 odd years later. Disappointed the coffin by the door was gone 😂 but it was a real highlight of our trip. Our dogs were welcomed and fussed over and the food at lunch was amazing, so tasty. Really friendly staff and all the facilities were spotless. Fantastic views over the garden too. A lovely trip down memory lane
