Had a great late afternoon meal and a couple of drinks with my wife and my dog ! We were all made very welcome ( including my dog ) . The I.P.A. was good ( never had it before) and the meal was excellent. Very good value for money . Very pleasantly surprised. Massive improvement from the last time I went to the Poacher years ago !

Poachers is a hidden gem. The cozy indoor seating and charming outdoor area provide a perfect setting for a delightful dining experience. The menu offers a fusion of Indian and Continental cuisines, with dishes like the flavorful Butter Chicken and tender grilled steaks standing out. Don't miss their expertly crafted cocktails—they're a treat! Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a relaxing brunch, Poachers delivers excellent food, inviting ambience, and attentive service. Highly recommended!

This place has an identity problem apart from rather slow service and sloppy attention to detail. The food was nice but one of the party didn't quite get what was ordered. (Burger with no salad but wit the hot sauce was without hot sauce) and another asked for plenty of lemon in the soda water and only got one slice. Small things but show a lack of attention. The menu is far from gastro and nearer Indian but fails at that too as it litters the menu with odd bits from all over the world. I would expect a more comprehensive menu if it were an Indian restaurant and more dishes veering towards fine dining if it were a gastro pub, It does have 3 burgers and fish & chips on the menu and one pasta dish. Generally I like low carb because I am diabetic, and apart from one salad choice this was not possible. However I was aware of the menu beforehand and was able to adjust my day to cope with a rather tasty pie and mash. Tasty it might have been and the pie was a good temperature, however the rest of the food was luke warm. The plate wasnt hot, so again a lack of attention to detail. Only 1 of the 3 ladies loos was lockable. Thats inexcusable, because the reason they dont lock is that the fixtures dont align. Shoddy workmanship.

I am normally not the one who writes negative reviews; but sadly this time I have to. Absolutely awful service. Inspite booking the table, we were made to sit outdoors in cold. No-one approached us for taking orders. We had to go inside and order our food. We had to sit over an hour for the food to be served. No apologies from the staff. Never going there again.

Not usually one for writing reviews but this place is too good not to write one. We visited with friends on a Saturday afternoon. After a spout of bad meals in other restaurants we were nervous to try somewhere new, however The Poachers blew us away. From lovely (reasonably priced!) wine, to the most amazing authentic Indian food any of us had ever tasted, this place was fabulous! It will certainly be our go-to and new local to visit. Thank you so much to all the staff and for the amazing cocktail tree (with sparklers!) at the end of our meal. We will be back!

The service of this pub was absolutely awful, the men working there ignored us and did not bring over menus or cutlery and had to order at the bar despite it saying table service because no one came over to our table. We waited 30 minutes for two sandwiches and 15 minutes for a cold pot of tea. The staff were overall rude and the overall experience was a waste of time.

Upon arrival, despite there only being 2 other people in the pub, the tables were dirty, so many glasses not collected and generally not very welcoming. We asked for a wine list to be told “we don’t have one” so we had to literally waste time at the bar asking for wine and the price being checked. We sat outside and about 45 mins later were told as it was a sunday they shut at 10pm. Like the fact we we told this after buying a big round of drinks . They literally shut the pub up and left us outside!!! We had to bang on the window to get in to use the toilet facilities! Never experienced such poor service with staff so uninterested in their job! Don't have the beer battered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. The prices are good, but I had the chicken burger which was overcooked and dry and my partner had the veggie jalfrezi which was a little bland.Would love to try it again as the atmosphere was nice and hopefully the food will be a little better next time.

Very quiet pub, so lovely for a quiet family meal. We ordered gammon, smothered chicken, child's meal, glass of wine and pint of beer for £40. Think we may have paid for child's 2 courses but never got it, was a bit confusing. Service was quite slow considering how quiet it was but the meal was nice and we all cleared our plates.

After a nice sunny day we ended up here for a well deserved drink. One turned into 3 so we decided to stay for tea. Again it was all very very nice, I had the diablo pizza which was loaded with toppings and tasted great. Once again it delivered

A sign by the main road led us over a little bridge completely by chance, to the Poachers. Friday lunchtime crowd with business couples and office lunchers by no means filled the pub and the service was comfortably run by a manager and a young lady. We ordered drinks and a sharing bbq style platter. The young lady was helpful over the choice of local ale and size of the platter and friendly and patient with my changes of mind! The food was a delightful surprise, and we shared sticky wings, skewers of chicken and chorizo, bbq ribs and a neat portion of fried thin cut sweet potato. It went down a treat with a pint of Hobgoblin. We were only passing through but I'm in Henley-on-Thames a fair bit and I'd love to return and give the menu a proper going over.

Have been to the Poachers twice in past few months - once between Christmas and New Year when it was very quiet, the second time being last Friday Lunchtimewhen it was definitely busier.Food has been fantastic both times. Waiting time for food has been good. Regular pub food just done a little better. Staff were polite and chatty on both occasionsI can imagine it gets very busy when there are big sporting events on - there are several large TV's but lunchtime was perfect

We tried the Sunday Family Feast and what a feast it turned out to be. Gorgeous roast chicken, gravy, duck fat roast potatoes, buttery green veg, roast onions and carrots. And then we had the most delectable plum and apple crumble with homemade custard. Couldn't have done it better had I done it myself! Thanks guys! We'll be back next week.

The Poachers is an attractive old building backing on to the river and the Mill House Hotel in Sindlesham. The menu is what you would expect, usual pub stuff, with a couple of attractive options such as warm chicken salad (with crispy herbed potatoes, chorizo and a crumbed poached egg). Pie of the day (chicken and leak) was tasty inside but over cooked pastry top and a gammon steak was thin and quite dry. There is a slim range of beers with a better selection of lagers. Plenty of screens if you want to watch the football (which wasn't attracting many people at all when I was there). All in all it's not bad, but equally I can't help feeling it could also be a lot better. Won't be rushing back, but might go again if in the area. For the summer, shame there isn't a seating area by the river instead of using that as a bin store.

I'm guessing we were the only people who didn't visit to watch football, I lost count of the screens on every wall. for us we like to eat out in more quaint places. the building itself is great and little corners and bay windows to sit in as a group or couple. but the top 10 music videos and live football is a million miles from where we are. as we were staying at the hotel we had been pointed in the direction by staff there. The food was good but the staff were very variable. There are obviously a lot of people who like this type of pub and for them I'm sure its great but for us we wont be back.

Walking up to the bar to order food to be told that there would be a minimum half hour wait due to a Christmas party next door didn't really bode well, but hell, ok, I'm in no hurry. When I asked, "Are you warning me not to order food because the wait will be longer ?", the bratty little girl behind the bar got aggressive with me, for no apparent reason. I placed my order, thanked her and went and sat down.As it turned out the food arrived in just 15 minutes. But there was a reason for that.It was a chicken-burger and was not cooked properly......(see photo), but I only discovered this about half way through. When I told the waitress, she came back (without the plate of food) and said, "all the chefs have inspected it and said that it's fine and that as long as it is the same colour all the way through, it's cooked".And with that, she walked off.I've attached the photo, so you make up your own mind.Oh - when I left, the stroppy waitress was smoking in plain sight in the car park - no wonder the bar stank of smoke.the worst service and the worst food of 2016. Nice one.

Wells real ale, in good order.Ordered the burger from the menu. Bun was extremely dry which spoil it. Otherwise a pleasant experience.Unusually live music on every other Saturdays.

The bar staff were very attentive, and friendly. They were swift with clearing our table and made us feel very welcome. There was a young waitress on shift who's customer service was exceptional, and who you could feel at ease talking with. looking on the receipt her name was hannah Beasley(?). I haven't visited this pub in years because I felt staff were rude and acted as if our visit was an inconvenience to them (at 1pm on a Saturday...) but now I can see that has changed and will defiantly be back as well as recommend to friends and family.

Not Impressed I had been to this pub once before but not to eat so thought I'd take my partner there for a meal. We sat at a nice round table in the window bay as it was tucked away from everyone else watching the football and placed our food order, when the food was bought over it looked reheated and was so dry I had to use half a bottle of ketchup. Half way through our meal a member of staff; who I can only assume as the supervisor or shift leader, interrupted us and asked if the table had been reserved which we replied no, and then we were asked if we wouldn't mind moving which left us shocked as we were in the middle of our dinner. The lady then told us to finish our dinner and then move to another table. She said I have reserved a table round the corner for, upon viewing this table it seemed to be joined with a group of men watching the football and was just 2 chairs at the end of there table, completely unacceptable. We couldn't believe we had been disturbed through our meal to move due to a mistake on there behalf. We felt like we were being rushed, watched and pushed out and our custom not appreciated. As a managing director of a large Food cooperation in the U.K. the service I received in this pub wouldn't be out of place at faulty towers. My partner also has work connections to the connected hotel and she will not be recommending it due to her experience. This has left us with a terrible impression of this pub and would take a lot of convincing to visit here again. If I was you I'd stay away from this pub with there rude staff, terrible service and horrific dry un-tasteful food.

The admin at this Restaurant is not good and we were directed to an outdoor seating area which we were told we had booked - which we hadn't. We were told that if we wanted to eat inside we would need to leave within the hour. There were 11 of and we had pre ordered. We opted to stay outside and didn't get our food till an hour after we had sat down. The food however, was lovely and we were looked after well once we were there.

My wife and I saw an advert on our local community group saying this establishment was doing very good fish and chips for take away. On the group site people were saying this cost £7:50 each for fish&chips but you had to order in advance. My wife wife placed an order and on the other end of the phone it sounded like an old lady taking the order, she was very abrupt and wasn’t listening to what was being asked and just kept talking over what my wife was trying to ask. Anyway we eventually placed our order. When we arrived to pick it up my wife went into the side entrance and went to pay, the old lady was quite rude and said it was £8:50 each, when my wife said that on the local page it everyone was saying £7:50. She just brushed it off and said she didn’t know about that, my wife only had £15 in cash and as we had only ordered for 2 this is all she had. There were dogs running around the area as well not very hygienic. The price appears to change depending on who you are as my wife went back to the local group and the members are still saying they pay £7:50. First and last time using this pub takeaway the fish and chips were a small portion for the price.

Brilliant fish and chips! The quality of both the fish and the batter is great. One of the best in the area, from my experience! Chips are good too…
