The Plym Fish Bar in Plymouth

I have been to Plym Fish Bar once a week for Over 2 years and the fresh fish x 3 has been cooked to perfection every time as well as the grilled fish 🙂 The service is always happy and polite and efficient . I highly recommend the fish and chips shop.

Lovely fish, chips and curry sauce! It was quite busy and no room to stand and wait for my food. I would have stood outside, but it was raining, so I think that was why it was packed! Definitely not the fish bars fault! Service was prompt and all staff very pleasant. Great value for money and the food selection great

On the last three visits,have been very disappointed with the cut and quality of the chips.Have always thought that the fish and chips over the years have been the best around .Something has changed ,either the type of potato being used and the cut .When you pay good money ,all I want is good quality food .Will be going else where for our fish supper’s .

First time ever had to complain. Fish and chips awful the fish was so dry like it had been in the warmer to long and large chips mostly scraps. OK it's a Friday and busy but the standard of food not good and alot of money to throw in the bin.

We live local, used to go to the Colebrook Chippy which had it's good days and not so good days. First time at the at The Plym Fish Bar, Hands down the difference is immense, absolutely fabulous Cod, Chips and Curry Sauce. 5 Stars All Day Long for Quality and Customer. What an excellent customer experience. We will definitely be back. Now Our Regular Go To.

So disappointing..my haddock was dry and chewy. My friends cod was dry and tough..and her batter was soggy with no crispness at all . Chips also dry..For £12 each..Being pensioners, it was supposed to be a long awaited treat but wasn’t 😔..Wouldnt have even put one star but as the review wouldn’t be accepted without something, I had to.

Ordered chicken breast with salad,got a chicken leg,which had the bone removed and flattened to make the appearance of a chicken breast with salad..if your gonna rob customers don't rob a chef with years of experience of butchery who knows what cuts of meat look and taste like..trading standards will be informed.

Went to this fish and chip shop as live locally and decided to give it a go. Place looked clean and busy,a good sign. Ordered 1 portion of fish and chips. Got home and upon opening was so disappointed at the size of the fish!!!!! Very small and thin, no depth to fish whatsoever. Felt very ripped off ,at £12.50 was terrible value for money. Time for certain establishments to up there game and stop ripping customers off !!!!! Will not use again.......

Great food. Open hours different to advertised which has caught me out a few times now. They open at 5 on Sunday not 4:30pm

Awesome onion rings. Only problem was, once it's finished them, I was already pretty full... Good to see them using biodegradable cardboard packaging rather than polystyrene.

Would be good if they answered the phone for a potential order. Went elsewhere.

Today's lesson is a lesson in greed...... The buttermilk chicken was passable, well priced, large size. Would I have it again? No. The fish was suspiciously fishy tasting, a bit thin and sad looking and most definitely the greasiest batter I've ever had. By the time we got home it was marinating in its own pool of grubby yellow oil. Would I want it again? No. Should I have just waited and eaten my 2 quid Lewis Capaldi pizza that was in my freezer at home? Yes! Lesson learnt. Don't waste your money.

Loved their blue cheese burger and went back next day for another one. This is just take away not really anywhere to sit whilst waiting. Nice staff

Really huge portions, freshly cooked. The curry sauce is amazing and the gravy is top notch too. I F&C shops were never really my thing until I started ordering from here now I'm a convert ordering weekly Re-reviewed 12 April 2022 Such a shame that they've changed their curry and gravy recently. Not sure why but it's nowhere near as good. All other things are still awesome though!

The food is very nice.not the cheapest chippy they cook everything fresh but its so slow.the lads behind the counter beed to dheer up .

Fantastic food gutted they took the Cod bits off there menu. I liked them I can't eat a lot of fish but they were a treat now and then. Staff are always friendly and clean. Sometimes they go a little crazy on the salt 😂 The best Chippy in plympton by far. Keep you the great service.

One of the fryers today ( Thursday 9th Feb around 6.15pm) was very very bad. He kept licking his thumb/fingers to help him get paper bags, boxes to dish up into……..very very poor hygiene! Did not wash hands after and before dishing up…. Effectively his spit/saliva transferred onto the packaging. Thankfully one of the other two behind the fryers wearing white coats served up my order otherwise would have told them to redo after hands had been washed. The fryer in question I believe was wearing a darker colour uniform and appeared to be doing all of it for show. Seriously not impressed and although a fairly regular customer in the past seriously considering whether to return and hope this member of staff is suitable retrained and does not repeat this hygiene breach………

First time we’ve used this fish and chip shop and we both were very impressed. The place is immaculate, staff were friendly. A very good menu selection at reasonable prices. Everything was cooked to perfection, with the best chips I’ve tasted! Food portions were large, we struggled to finish. Highly recommend….

Just had 2 portions off chips that were overdone and all stuck together. Been previously pre Cooked. And a battered jumbo sausage that you needed a chisel gun to get off the batter . Really hard . Very disappointed. If we opened them when nearer would have took them back Definitely a comedown to the last ones we had . Won't use again until it improves

Fantastic fish and chips not too greasy. Plus lots of alternative options for people who don't love fish. Staff are always really friendly. I love that majority of their packaging is plastic free, nice to see a local business thinking of the environment!

My Mum, 94, absolutely loves the ‘kids’ toddler cod and chips BUT it has recently increased in price from £5.50 to £7!!!!

A friend recommended this as a good plaice😉 for fish and chips. I take reviews with a sprinkle of salt, but excellent quality fish (cod) and decent portion of lovely chips. Clean and tidy with good service, we will be going back.

I was really disappointed with the Food. They had not changed the oil in god knows how long, the fish had that much batter on it would have taken a week to cook and having ordered a large fish and regular chips I found the fish after searching the batter to find it must have been a minnow. Never again.

The chips are the best ever. Lovely jubbly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle . Curry sauce on the side , beautiful just beautiful. Don't know the burgers are 8 ounce.tho

In these difficult times and living over 100 miles away from 80-90 year old parents, for my Dads 90th Birthday we decided to treat Mum and Dad to a favorite.......Chip shop Fish and chips...we arranged a Taxi to collect and booked the meal with Plym Fish and Chips.....the pleasure Mum and Dad got from that and the Fish and Chips were in there words 'The best' when Plym realised it had been for my fathers 90th a few weeks later they treated them to a 'complementry' Fish and Chips dinner...they even delivered them......Mum and Dad have been isolating for 10 months and this was such an appreciated treat for them...thank you Plym for your generosity....we are looking at making this a bit of a regular treat for them....so we will be booking with you again.....Thank you.

We had a take out fish and chip meal tonight, the chips were thicker than the cod fish. Have to say who ever fillets them does a good job, never had cod so thin.

Popped in for a hot lunch last Friday 27/11, ordered 2 x cod and chips. Very quick service, served by a very polite young man. We ate our lunch in the car, we both agreed it was a delicious meal, best fish and chips we’ve had for a long time. Keep up the good work!

I have been to many fish and chip shops and found that they are ok , it does the job as they say, fills a hole. This Fish Bar is by far the best i have ever had. The chips are to die for as the saying goes. Its the sort of food that even when cold it still tastes lovely. Keep up the good work and its lovely to know that your oil is changed daily. Visited at 17.10pm 19th September and my order had a duplicate item. Accept I should have checked receipt so only discovered on way home. When I called they were rude, unhelpful, not apologetic and hung up the call. Not a good example of customer relations.

He estado yendo a este lugar desde que abrió y no puedo decir que alguna vez haya tenido motivos para quejarme de la comida. Por lo general, siempre fue Haddock and Chips y siempre fue absolutamente hermoso. Crujiente y seco, gran masa para el pescado, trozos gruesos de pescado y excelentes patatas fritas. No he vuelto desde Covid 19, así que tengo muchas ganas de conseguir nuestro abadejo y patatas fritas habituales. Máscaras puestas y dentro vamos. Aceptan pagos sin contacto, genial. Antes de esto, solo era efectivo. Pedido realizado y esperado. No reconocí a ninguno de los chicos jóvenes que suelen trabajar aquí, así que supongamos que estas personas estamos parados. No esperé demasiado unos 20 minutos. Llegué a casa y pensé que me iba a comer este dulce de miel. Contenedores abiertos, qué equivocado pude haber estado. El pescado solo se había sumergido en un lado, por lo que la parte inferior (la piel) se frió hasta una pulgada de su vida hasta el punto de hacer que la parte se masticara. La masa se había cocido demasiado en aceite que estaba demasiado caliente y era una piedra dura y llena de grasa. Lamentablemente, el pescado también se había cocinado en aceite, ya que la masa no lo protegía y eso era masticable. No puedo decirles lo decepcionado que estoy al decirles que si no pueden molestarse en producir alimentos de alta calidad, no se molesten. Mostraba claramente que el tipo maduro que cocinaba el pescado no tenía idea de cómo rebozar o simplemente no podía molestarse o que estaban tomando atajos para ahorrar dinero. Si sus estándares se han deslizado a este nivel, rápidamente cerrará el negocio. Ni siquiera te has molestado en responder a mis comentarios en otro sitio (FB), así que tal vez eso lo diga todo. Lamentablemente no volveremos. Hago hincapié en que cuando la comida se sirve con este estándar, entonces realmente no te importa lo que sirvas. Llevaré mi negocio a otra parte y me aseguraré de no volver a promocionar esta tienda de pescado y papas fritas, lo cual es triste, ya que los jóvenes que normalmente están allí saben cómo rebozar y cocinar pescado.

Fish and chips always good and the system they currently have works well. Go in, order and wait outside to be called when your food ready . Not long to wait either.

Had the large fish and chips, my husband had the Jamaican burger and chips, so good! The chips are very light and taste freshly cooked, and our meal was good value for money. Staff are friendly and helpful.

we always use this fish bar now.used to go into town but too far.do not like other fish and chip shops in plympton.The fish and chips are beautifully cooked. i like the chips to be brown and crispy not greasy and soggy.
