Popped in for a traditional sit down lunch of Fish and Chips, and wasn't disappointed. The food was hot and tasty, the portions generous and the prices good. The availability of wine and beer made it a step up from your usual seaside F&C place, and the menu was quite varied. I had cod, chips and mushy peas, and it was excellent. I'd heard the seating in there described as a "little bit squeezy", which did describe the fact the placing of the tables makes it a wee bit cozy, but it didn't detract from my visit. Platters is well worth a visit.

I thought the fish and chips was great, the fish was cooked well and the chips were delicious. However the pasta dish was a bit of a let down, I ordered the crab pasta and they went a bit heavy on the peppers which dulled the taste sadly. The service and atmosphere was very friendly though!

Lovely cozy restaurant which serves authentic, delicious seafood. We ordered clam chowder and calamari for starters. Clam chowder was tasty and the calamari was cooked well. For mains, my husband ordered haddock and chips and I had prawn linguine in tomato base. His haddock was really fresh and he enjoyed it. My pasta dish had 9 big prawns which was well worth it and really tasty. We were also appreciative of their accomodation to our 2 dogs inside. We were there in a Sunday at 3pm. We also had a bottle of white wine and total bill came up to approx £75 which we felt was value for money for the location and quality of food. Would come back again.

The best seafood restaurant in Plymouth! The reason why I gave 4 stars for service was because although they was very friendly I wasn’t offered another drink the waitress’s where talking with another customer who must have been a regular and by the time they had finished we had already eaten our lunch maybe they just didn’t want to be pushy? The food was absolutely amazing though and we will definitely go back! :-)

This tiny but packed cafe serves very little other than fresh, local fish. We decided to put them to the test, when in Platters, order a platter. It wasn’t cheap at £60 and my daughter had paella. In hindsight the platter was enough for 3. Calamari was delicious, 4 huge shell on king prawns, loads of crispy whitebait, 4 scallops, a little too charred but tasty and 3 pieces of what I thought was sea bass. There was also a huge bowl of muscles and should have been accompanied by chips. Sadly these failed to materialise despite us chasing up twice, seems the chef gave them to the wrong table and by the time some were brought to us we’d finished. Can’t fault the food, they knocked £5 off for the chips. I would go back but they could do with some more waiting staff, the young lad was rushed off his feet doing all the work.

Used to be fortnightly regulars under the old regime but only been in a couple of times since. Came this time only because there was a lucky parking space just outside. Steady trade inside. Bit of a squeeze sitting against the wall side. Menu prices a bit high. Reasonable selection of specials. We had plaice from the menu which were OK but the ‘whole tail scampi’ were a bit frugal and overcooked. The Sauvignon was disappointing and left unfinished. In the old days we couldn’t bring the dog but this time there was a large chocolate spotted Dalmatian type and later the Viszla joined in the larger table in the warm sun on the busy table out on the pavement.

Looked forward to an honest meal of some local fish brought in straight from Sutton Harbour based on the location of Platters. However… I went with scallops in butter to start (£8) followed by haddock and chips (£15) and my wife, fish pie (£17) The scallops although tasty were sandy/gritty- the chef did not rinse them properly. The haddock watery and tasteless - no seasoning at all and the fillet resembled frozen fish with more batter than protein. Didn’t taste fresh. The fish pie wholesome but heavy, stodgy and creamy with no seasoning at all. Even the mushy peas were bland. We couldn’t finish both dishes unfortunately The waiters were friendly and the manager/owner came over when we said it wasn’t the best. He said we didn’t need to pay for the fish and chips. So sad as we really looked forward to some tasty local food but all was tasteless with little appreciation for the fish. it s a fish and chip restaurant that serves other dishes like steak, basic pasta dishes with crab, prawn and the ubiquitous muscles but It is not a seafood restaurant based on the limited skills of the chef IMHO The chef needs to taste his own food and the owner keep an top of this as the dishes are not complicated and there is a lot of competition out there from local chippies.

What a wonderful little gem, right by the harbourside in Plymouth. First time we'd tried this restaurant, and we are so glad we did! It is very small and cosy with gorgeous murals on the walls and as soon as we opened the door, we were warmly greeted and offered a seat. The two ladies waiting tables were lovely, kind, polite and very friendly. The kitchen was open plan so the chef was on view the whole time. The quality of the food was exquisite, both in freshness and how it was prepared. We were there as my OH loves seafood and it was his birthday so we chose the mixed seafood platter. His eyes nearly popped out when he saw what we had - calamari, scallops, HUGE prawns, whitebait, 3 pan fried fillets of plaice, a massive bowl of mussels and chips!! All served with homemade tartare sauce. It was amazing and we both really enjoyed it. 90% of the seafood and fish are local and delivered each morning and you can taste it. The staff couldn't do enough for us, and Tori even stood and chatted with us for a while. The second waitress had only been there 2 weeks but was also lovely. Even chef chatted to us briefly! The only small neg is that there is no parking - having said that, we were able to park roadside just a little way away (parking meters). The prices are reasonable and it's so worth it. A small but gleaming treasure, we will be back!

My lovely lady treated me to a birthday meal here, and, it truly was a lovely meal. Waiting staff were lovely, polite and professional, we were immediately seated and made to feel very welcome. We decided to order the seafood platter, and having spoken to the waitress before we ordered, we decided that this would probably be enough to feed us 2 hungry humans. We were in for a shock, the muscles on their own would have been enough to feed me, the portion size was, well, huge is the best word for it. But as only a part of the seafood platter, the rest that followed was incredible. Scallops, 3 lovely pieces of fish, calamari, breaded whitebait chips and HUGE prawns. The menu says, enough to feed 2, personally, I'd say there is probably enough for 3 or more. From the start, I asked where the produce came from as let's face it, if you have a seafood restaurant so close to the sea, you want it to be fresh and fresh it is. Each morning it's fresh to be exact. So it's no suprise to learn that everything was utterly delicious. The scallops were sweet, and the roe was kept on, this is an absolute must as it enhances the flavour so much. The muscles, delicious, perfectly cooked, and the sauce didn't detract you from the flavour. The 3 pieces of fish, just fall apart lovely, moist and utterly flavoursome. And honestly, everything was just cooked to utter perfection. Any fool can cook a steak or chicken, but to cook fresh seafood and do it perfectly, that's an art. And the chef there is an artist and a bloody good one at that. Thank you to all the staff there for making my birthday meal a very special one.

Visited last Friday evening. Stupidly sat by the door which most people left open (there's a definite knack to closing it!) so was a tad cold. We both had the trio of fish which changes per market. We got Bass, Gurnard and Lemon Sole. The bass was a decent size but the other 2 were tiny so where a tad overcooked we were also a tad disappointed, as we had looked at other people's photos before booking and the portions looked very generous. Luckily the chips were unlimited so we ordered more and they were lovely. Otherwise we would have left hungry and we had starters and desert. Disappointed that the only cider available was bottles of Bulmers (yuk!), shame when there's so many excellent Devon and Cornish ciders available by the bottle. Service was attentive and friendly. Maybe next time we'll just go for 1 fish and not the trio as everyone else's meals looked huge. Cheers

Food was good but the customer service was so bad. The waitress had no customer service skills, arrogant and stroppy, came to our table saying "RIGHT, what's your order then?'. No manners at all, I've worked as a waiter before, it does get stressful but that's not a reason to be rude to other customers. Made the atmosphere very uncomfortable and didn't enjoy my experience. Also saw her talking in a rude manner to a foreign elderly couple, who asked the order to be repeated, and repeated them in a rude, humiliating manner. The whole time we were eating, she was at the back eating food from the kitchen and laughing and felt like we were being talked about. Didn't check on us if the food was good or anything like if we needed more tissues. I had to basically serve myself and grab the tissues at the back. She took out plates from our table, ordering us to pass the plates to her "pass me your plates there" no please, no thank you. Very rude. I can't completely remember her appearance but she has blondish hair, middle parting, plaited. Looks like a crab herself. Food could do with much improvements in my opinion. I tried the Gurnard dish which unfortunately the taste didn't quite resonated. Fish had lost it fundamental enjoyment, tasted of greasy used oil being the dominated flavour, fish bones were not removed which was annoying. The frozen chips were nice at least. Unfortunately it didn't reach any of my expectations as I prefer speciality varieties of fish. FYI, dogs are welcome as long as well behaved.

Went here as very nice sounding fish menu. We were not disappointed. We both tried Gunnard for the first time.....delicious though a bit boney!

Excellent food and service. Fishermen’s pie is a must try, it’s very creamy and buttery. Seafood platter is a very good bang for buck too.

Delicious food, really cosy and nicely decorated. Staff were a delight. Portions were too big for us, my starter of moulles mariner (about 20 of them!!) Would have done for a main. I had ordered paella for my actual main, so I stood no chance....

We visited Plymouth on the Saphos steam train and having wandered down to the Hoe walked across to the Barbican to find somewhere for a light lunch. SO glad we found Platters! What a hidden gem! Food was excellent. Super quality fish, cooked to perfection....

We were recommended this little restaurant and made our way there on a quiet Monday lunch without pre-booking. The restaurant was quiet and the waitress was very welcoming. The service was impeccable and with a smile. We had the scallops, mussels, Dover sole, lobster, prawns risotto and calamari: all fresh & perfectly cooked. The meal was washed down with a bottle of Bollinger which complemented the delicious seafood.

Having frequented this chippy in recent times, I have to say the quality of the food is worth while. It is value for money, and the service is top quality. Having opted this time for the delivery element, again, it is to high standards, the food is piping hot and always delivered on time. It is Chef's Kiss tenfold, and we always look forward to continually eating at this worthy establishment. Hats off to Steve and the gang for maintaining top quality service and food.
