Amazing haddock and chips and brilliant value for the size of portion. The fish was cooked to perfection, the only negative is I could have done with a half portion as they are so large! I have a reasonable appetite but could not do it justice. I would highly recommend a visit though, and the staff are lovely, great service.

Had been to Platters years ago and cannot understand why I had been back before! Situated in the quite, but rather touristy, Barbican. The restaurant has been decorated (since I was there last) so you will not miss it! 'Cozy' on the inside but wow, the fish is fantastic! Fresh, well cooked and delicious. 'Fish & chips' arrived as a massive portion of really lovely grilled haddock & very moreish chips. Staff were welcoming, 'on the case' and obliging. Will not wait so long to return!!

Small and cosy restaurant. Fresh fish and waitresses are very nice. Octopus is great wich surprise me. But the seafood paella is a bit too salty. Good value of price.

What an incredible experience I had. It's a small restaurant but a massive welcome from the bubbly Tori. I had the calamari pasta and could not believe how tasty it was. I come from the med and never had calamari this tender ever. I went with several colleagues and we didn't have to wait long and everything was piping hot , so we'll done chef. Can't wait to get back there and try out there mixed platter.

Wow! What an incredible restaurant! We couldn't fault a single thing! The food was utterly divine and service was impeccable too! We hadn’t booked a table and with it being Mother’s Day we thought we had no hope, but the great staff managed to squeeze us in! Thank you! Best Sea bass I have ever had!

Visited today with my mum for lunch. Been to Platters a few times now and every time the service has been excellent. The food is amazing. As soon as you walk in the waitress will greet you and make you feel welcome. Had fish and chips and OMG this meal is amazing....... Full of flavour and you never feel rushed to eat it with in a certain time. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Thank you again for the great service and food.

Came in late on a Monday afternoon as I was visiting friends. Walked in to see the most handsome chef! Luckily the food looked just as good as he did. In all seriousness it was amazing and enjoyed food and service ! Will be coming back.

What a wonderful little gem, right by the harbourside in Plymouth. First time we'd tried this restaurant, and we are so glad we did! It is very small and cosy with gorgeous murals on the walls and as soon as we opened the door, we were warmly greeted and offered a seat. The two ladies waiting tables were lovely, kind, polite and very friendly. The kitchen was open plan so the chef was on view the whole time. The quality of the food was exquisite, both in freshness and how it was prepared. We were there as my OH loves seafood and it was his birthday so we chose the mixed seafood platter. His eyes nearly popped out when he saw what we had - calamari, scallops, HUGE prawns, whitebait, 3 pan fried fillets of plaice, a massive bowl of mussels and chips!! All served with homemade tartare sauce. It was amazing and we both really enjoyed it. 90% of the seafood and fish are local and delivered each morning and you can taste it. The staff couldn't do enough for us, and Tori even stood and chatted with us for a while. The second waitress had only been there 2 weeks but was also lovely. Even chef chatted to us briefly! The only small neg is that there is no parking - having said that, we were able to park roadside just a little way away (parking meters). The prices are reasonable and it's so worth it. A small but gleaming treasure, we will be back!

My lovely lady treated me to a birthday meal here, and, it truly was a lovely meal. Waiting staff were lovely, polite and professional, we were immediately seated and made to feel very welcome. We decided to order the seafood platter, and having spoken to the waitress before we ordered, we decided that this would probably be enough to feed us 2 hungry humans. We were in for a shock, the muscles on their own would have been enough to feed me, the portion size was, well, huge is the best word for it. But as only a part of the seafood platter, the rest that followed was incredible. Scallops, 3 lovely pieces of fish, calamari, breaded whitebait chips and HUGE prawns. The menu says, enough to feed 2, personally, I'd say there is probably enough for 3 or more. From the start, I asked where the produce came from as let's face it, if you have a seafood restaurant so close to the sea, you want it to be fresh and fresh it is. Each morning it's fresh to be exact. So it's no suprise to learn that everything was utterly delicious. The scallops were sweet, and the roe was kept on, this is an absolute must as it enhances the flavour so much. The muscles, delicious, perfectly cooked, and the sauce didn't detract you from the flavour. The 3 pieces of fish, just fall apart lovely, moist and utterly flavoursome. And honestly, everything was just cooked to utter perfection. Any fool can cook a steak or chicken, but to cook fresh seafood and do it perfectly, that's an art. And the chef there is an artist and a bloody good one at that. Thank you to all the staff there for making my birthday meal a very special one.

Visited last Friday evening. Stupidly sat by the door which most people left open (there's a definite knack to closing it!) so was a tad cold. We both had the trio of fish which changes per market. We got Bass, Gurnard and Lemon Sole. The bass was a decent size but the other 2 were tiny so where a tad overcooked we were also a tad disappointed, as we had looked at other people's photos before booking and the portions looked very generous. Luckily the chips were unlimited so we ordered more and they were lovely. Otherwise we would have left hungry and we had starters and desert. Disappointed that the only cider available was bottles of Bulmers (yuk!), shame when there's so many excellent Devon and Cornish ciders available by the bottle. Service was attentive and friendly. Maybe next time we'll just go for 1 fish and not the trio as everyone else's meals looked huge. Cheers

I went here for lunch a couple days ago, we both had the mussels and some chips and I knew something was slightly wrong. Around 24hours later, I got food poisoning and this is the only cause it could have been. I am extremely disappointed and I have been very ill ever since. I do not recommend. That being said, the chips were very good. But still, gave me food poisoning.

Food was good but the customer service was so bad. The waitress had no customer service skills, arrogant and stroppy, came to our table saying "RIGHT, what's your order then?'. No manners at all, I've worked as a waiter before, it does get stressful but that's not a reason to be rude to other customers. Made the atmosphere very uncomfortable and didn't enjoy my experience. Also saw her talking in a rude manner to a foreign elderly couple, who asked the order to be repeated, and repeated them in a rude, humiliating manner. The whole time we were eating, she was at the back eating food from the kitchen and laughing and felt like we were being talked about. Didn't check on us if the food was good or anything like if we needed more tissues. I had to basically serve myself and grab the tissues at the back. She took out plates from our table, ordering us to pass the plates to her "pass me your plates there" no please, no thank you. Very rude. I can't completely remember her appearance but she has blondish hair, middle parting, plaited. Looks like a crab herself. I would like to come back to this place again but not with the type of customer service from her.

We love Platters, Patrick and his team are so friendly and accommodating. The fish is fantastic particularly the grilled gurnard and the trio of fish, the scallops are amazing and the seafood platter is excellent value for money. All fish is fresh here and expertly cooked by chefs who really know how to cook fish, great chips and peas and wash it down with a glass of muscadet it's a proper treat! We are regulars and with my partner being a professional chef himself we find it so difficult to find fish cookery just the way we like it, so would highly recommend everyone to give it a try as it's great value for money and the best grilled fish on the Barbican!

One waitress was lovely and the other was arrogant and stroppy. The plaice was tough and tasteless. This place is nothing like it was 30 years ago, such a disappointment... and expensive!

What a gem of a restaurant! Had the 'Moules Chips' which were outstanding - the chef knows how to season a sauce - will be definitely returning to try other dishes

One of our favourite haunts. The mussels are to die for, especially with some chilli added, and the seafood paella is super nice. I also like the Greek salad as an option, instead of chips. The food is cooked there and then, so the chef is happy to stray from the menu if you have any special requests. Great service.

Fish and chips to me is large golden battered haddock with mushy peas and tartare sauce, homemade that is with lemon. Every time I eat here I get exactly what I imagined and it'd magic!! Well recommended 👌

Tasteless bland cod and chips,very disappointing.£54.00 for the three of us. This is not the way to do it.You will never win any prizes,had much better at Wetherspoon’s.

This place was a happy find. I wanted fish to eat while visiting Plymouth and ideally an independent restaurant, rather than a pub or a chain. Platters suited this perfectly, although I was lucky to get a table in this small and busy venue! There was plenty of seafood and fish options for starters and mains. I went for the Plymouth Clam Chowder and the trio of grilled fish with chips, both of which were excellent.

Very popular restaurant with the fish & chip crowd and also the Chinese community who really like their fish. 34+ covers and very busy on a Sunday evening. I had the "Platters Trio" which were 3 different types of grilled fish with chips and garden...

Food could do with much improvements in my opinion. I tried the Gurnard dish which unfortunately the taste didn't quite resonated. Fish had lost it fundamental enjoyment, tasted of greasy used oil being the dominated flavour, fish bones were not removed which was annoying. The frozen chips were nice at least. Unfortunately it didn't reach any of my expectations as I prefer speciality varieties of fish. FYI, dogs are welcome as long as well behaved.

We visited Plymouth on the Saphos steam train and having wandered down to the Hoe walked across to the Barbican to find somewhere for a light lunch. SO glad we found Platters! What a hidden gem! Food was excellent. Super quality fish, cooked to perfection....

Delicious food, really cosy and nicely decorated. Staff were a delight. Portions were too big for us, my starter of moulles mariner (about 20 of them!!) Would have done for a main. I had ordered paella for my actual main, so I stood no chance....

I visited Platters today with my mum and sister. We have visited before so we knew the service and food would be excellent. Such a friendly place and the waitress is so friendly and makes you feel welcome. The food is 10/10! Very well presented and the taste is well all I can say is yummmm yummmm! Thank you. Platters restaurant has always, in my mind, been a really great sea food destination. Very small restaurant, a little pricer than other barbican restaurants, but happy to pay for the quality, service, and the water front barbican location. I went a couple of weeks ago for lunch. Cod and chips were great, fish obviously fresh, batter crispy and tasty, perfectly cooked chips. Another had the crab sandwich, said it tasted more of vinegar than crab. I understand some people put a little acidity in with their crab, but it was apparently very overpowering. Not really what you'd expect for a £14 sandwich, but the chips it came with were great. Nothing else to say about the food. I do have a few other things to mention.... The orange juice, don't order it, waste of money, I asked if this was fresh orange juice, given the price tag, I was assured it was. When it came it tasted funky with an odd tang, when i sent it back I was informed by another member of staff that it was from concentrate, and they didn't like it either.... A couple of tables behind us,near where the chefs were cooking, was a young guy, he either worked there, knew someone that did or was maybe related to the owner. He sat there, in this fresh seafood restaurant, with his takeaway that he'd brought in and sat eating. It was an odd sight to see the staff talking and laughing with a guy sat in one of the restaurant booths of a sea food restaurant eating what looked like Greek Souvlaki from the kiosk right outside. It doesn't give a great impression of the food if someone that appeared to be staff or closely related to staff, to be not eating the food from the restaurant they were sat in. All in all it was OK, I wouldn't go out my way to book here, it wouldn't come to mind if I was looking for somewhere to go to eat, but I wouldn't mind going again.

I ended up here by accident as my first choice venue was full. I ordered the haddock and chips, which when tasted was a lovely piece of fish in a lovely minimal batter with some great home made chips. Lovely!

Fantastic, fresh fish, served simply and tasting wonderful. Lots of choice, but for those who are “indecisive”🤔, try their “Trio of fish” from the specials board….you won’t be disappointed. Oh….and the chips are very yummy too. Don’t visit Plymouth without going to Platters. (we live over the border in Cornwall, so how lucky are we to be able to go when we want😉).

Very tasty, clearly fresh calamari and chips. Decor is basic so not sure if “restaurant” is accurate, but I can’t deny that the food was great. A little pricey but I’d be surprised if there were many other places in town that paid such careful...

A family visit early on Friday evening. We enjoyed a mixture of dishes including grilled plaice, bream and gurnard plus the children's cod and chips. All were excellent, well cooked and plentiful. The portions of fish were generous especially the plaice and child's cod and chips. The chips were the best we have had in years. Staff very welcoming and friendly. A great find. We will be back.

We were there last night 11/07/23. A nice place. The fish is excellent and plentiful. The prices are normal. The only flaw of the place (inside) is that when you leave it smells of fried food. The ideal would be external. However, I recommend it. Congratulations. Very helpful and polite staff.

Really homely and friendly. By far better food here than the big corporate restaurants directly on the quayside. Mussels and chowder were incredible. Trio of fish with salad a real treat. Brilliantly paired with the savignon blanc. Would love to come back here.

Ordered the lobster and a large variety of seafood dishes. Seafood dishes were awesome but the lobster was overcooked. Would recommend the mussuels and paella but not the lobster.

There are a bunch of recommendations from Xiaohongshu, but I happened to pass by by accident. Ordered crab noodles and fish and chips. It was not as amazing as recommended, the noodles in clear soup were tasteless, and the fish and chips were lemon in color. It tastes unsalted and the fish meat is okay but tasteless. Please recommend it seriously to the Chinese people. Thanks

One of te best places to eat fishfood in Plymouth. Wondeful staff, delicius food — everything was excelent!!!

A cubby hole of a fish shop in a busy part of town known as The Barbican. The servers were ever so efficient and helpful. The mussels were so meaty, the king prawns amazing and the chowder was hearthy and boiling. For the price of a burger back home we could eat an amazing sea food selection. Well worth it!!!!

We friends went in Plymouth for a couple of days holidays and tried their food, it was just lovely. We ended up going there twice again just to eat their seafood. Oh my gosh! what a dish . We always had their trio fish Platter with garlic bread and steak cut fries with their special tartare sauce. Staff were kind and kept on topping up our favourite tartar sauce. I recommend anyone if they are in Plymouth, it is a must go guys. Won't be disappointed. Restaurant takes a bit longer to put the food on the table ,but it's worth it as they have to freshly prepare it.

Everything we ordered was good! Scallops were excellent and the clam chowder was very homely and creamy. The fish pie was very nice as well. I can recommend the trio platter. In my case on the day, it had John Dory, gurnard and sea bass. The fish was cooked excellently. I'd recommend this place a for a straightforward seafood meal with plenty of choice and very reasonable prices!

The starter was larger then expected and very tasty garlic mushrooms. We both had cod and chips and both were cooked beautifully and very tasty. The sweet I decided upon was the apple crumble with custard. This was huge and piping hot. A lovely place to eat with good service and lovely food.

This is THE best fish and chips restaurant on the Barbican. I have eaten there many times and the quality of everything never varies. You will not be disappointed if you go there.
