Best fish and chips we've had for ages and we have them every fortnight. Light and not greasy. Fish was fresh and beautifully fried. Took them to Devil's Point. Fab!

Very reasonable prices, food always fresh and hot. The quality is amazing, tastes great. The staff are very friendly. ☺️

The fish & chips at The Chip Stop are the best I have ever had! The batter is so light but very crispy (I’m not normally a batter fan) the fish is really white & the chips are not at all greasy & you can tell they have just been cooked. Quite often I have experienced other chip shops oil leaves a nasty taste in my mouth this is not the case here! 😊

They have just reopened and it was definitely worth the wait. These are the most deliciously crunchy chippies, and the batter also om nom nom

Asked for large Cod and chips as this was the only Fish on the menu ... fish was cooked to order which is great so happyly waited for 7 mins so a fresh piece of Atlantic Cod . The fish looked good with a nice batter and chips are decent . But sadly the fish didn't deliver the buttery firm sweet taste it was very soft and mild like alaskan Pollock .

Our first visit earlier this evening. A long queue outside the door is always a good sign of quality and we weren't disappointed. The fish and chips were top quality: the fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was light and crisp. Plymouth is a fish and chips town, and the Chip Stop has to up there amongst the best. Highly recommended.

Food is good but it's hardly ever open and prone to sudden closure like today! Perhaps needs to employ more staff to avoid this situation as it is very difficult to plan using it for a takeaway. Seems to rely on one member of staff only.

First time of trying food from here a few days ago the fish was lovely chips was just right hubby really enjoyed his fritters and your gravy is so tasty will be back again fab service and very polite over all you are worth the 5 stars or more

Delicious, moderately priced and reasonably sized portions. Not too fatty. Within easy and pleasant strolling distance of Mayflower Marina. Call ahead and it will be ready and waiting for you. A semi-regular, whenever we visit Plymouth (2nd home here). A warm welcome from Paul and Linda. Recommended.

Shame it has only brief opening hours (5-8pm) 4 days a week. Everytime I've been there I've had to queue, but worth the wait. No skin on the fish !

Ate cod and chips from here while we were staying in the area. Possibly the best fish and chips we've tasted: crisp batter, fish firm, chips un-soggy. So good we went back for more of the same later in the week. Highly recommended.

The Chip Stop on Waterloo Street told my boys (7 and 9) to ‘P*ss O*f’ when they popped their heads in with their friends when we passed trick or treating at Halloween. Totally unprovoked, rude and unnecessary then smirked and giggled when confronted after. Not child friendly. (Also their fish is often soggy)

Was picking something up when I saw this chippy. Delicious fish freshly cooked crisp batter went for regular size medium sized fish and chips enough for me today but may choose large next time 😃 battered sausage good too according to husband.

Called in for haddock, cod and chips (for three of us - I did not eat the lot!) and very pleased😋. All cooked to order and tasted really good. Post Xmas diet means that the visits are infrequent 😞

Passing by on a drive out. So spotted this chippy carry out. Ordered a fish. Came after some time but that is good for fish. Fish was average size. Batter a bit goey. Filled a hole but will not rush back. Staff ok.

I bought a meal here yesterday and must say that I wasn't impressed. Everything was overpriced e.g. £2.80 for 5 chicken nuggets. The nuggets were totally a waste of money because they were cooked in the same oil they use to fry the fish and tasted of fish, my daughter doesn't eat fish she took one bite and didn't eat the rest. The jumbo sausage's name is misleading, as they charge a lot of money for it I was expecting something huge. It can only be described as large at best The chips were a small portion for the price. The only thing that was worth it was the curry sauce.

We are regulars to the Chip Stop because they not only serve delicious chips but they cater for a gluten free diet. Perfect, we highly recommend it

I love the fish here. I love the crunchy batter & portion sizes. Service is great. Very attentive staff. To be able to pick up a bottle of decent white wine with my fish & chips is a bonus. The shop is always very clean which gives you confidence in whats happening out back. A good find, a hidden gem.

Always great fish and chips and really good for Gluten Free batter. All the GF food is cooked in the chip oil and not with the other fish. Lovely service and very freshly cooked to order. You can phone an order through for later pickup. A range of wines and cold drinks are available.

Every time I come see my friend Mel we go to this chip shop. The food is great and tasty and the staff are really nice. They have their own wine that they chill. I would recommend this chip ship to anybody. One of the nicer chip shops in Plymouth

Does gluten free fish and chips

We were working late and did not fancy cooking. So we stopped off and got Fish and Chips. They were really tasty and were freshly cooked so still hot. This is our 4th visit since moving into the area and have not been disappointed yet. They sell a vast variety of food and even wine with their own label. Can say without doubt we will be back for more.

I visited The Chip Stop back in December, as a quick stop for something to eat after football training. I'd heard lots of positive things about the place so I thought I'd give it a go, not living far down the road. The lady in the shop was more than accommodating, especially as it was towards the end of the shift, and the portion size was very generous. However, when I go the meal home, it was very greasy and all a bit worse for wear - particularly with the soggy battered sausage. All in all, a bit disappointed and won't be returning.

Called in right as they were closing up, but the staff were really accommodating and able to sort us our dinner! Friendly owner, and I was surprised to find they also have a 'house wine' on offer! Really large portions on offer, good quality fish. Overall, it's got a nice local vibe, different to the larger shops on the Barbican. If I'm on that side of Plymouth again I'd call in.

Great chip shop with excellent quality fish and chips. Fish all local. Quite small portions I felt for the money and quite expensive - 2 fish, 1 chips and peas over £10 - thankfully they take debit cards!

He ido a volver a esta zona, crecí alrededor de aquí en los años 70 y 80 y te puedo decir que ha sido siempre un fish n chips aquí, aunque sin duda es más moderno que cuando vine aquí como un chico!

Excellent Fish and Chips! I opted for the medium portion which I assure you is abundant. The Fish and Chips are fried on the spot; the counter is visible so there is no hiding place, you can see how the dish is prepared and in a few minutes I was able to enjoy super crispy fish and delicious chips, nothing like those served at the usual fast food restaurants. I will definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone who is in the city of Plymouth!

Fantastic!! If you are in the area and you're looking for a great "chipper" (with or without gluten) this is the place to visit. Their gluten free batter is absolutely fantastic AND they can do it any time, not just on specific days.

This is written after two recent fish and chip meals at the The chip Stop. Because I had been so impressed the first time I returned to check my first impressions. I was not disappointed the fish was cooked freshly while I waited and was deliciously moist in a thin and light batter. The chips were also perfectly cooked using a tasty potato. The whole was well presented in its box - the best fish and chips I've had for years - highly recommended.

I have used this chippy on quite a few occasions and can honestly say I have NEVER been disappointed, especially not by the quality or quantity of my order. The couple running this place are always very welcoming and friendly and if you want "lightly battered" or any other quirky request, just ask as they are more than willing to accommodate you if they can.I, for one, will be using this ship shop again and look forward to doing so.

Tucked away in Waterloo Street this is a great chippy, always cooked to order so always fresh. The only negative I can come up with is they don't seem to have an efficient system for taking and preparing the orders which makes for a long wait. But the food is great and I keep going back for more. It is take-away only but Plymouth has plenty of places with great views where you can sit and enjoy your cod and chips.

If near Plymouth, England, The Chip Stop is a "must visit" for the best fish and chips I've found in the UK,, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia. They also have other food varieties and wines, but we thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips and the graciousness of the owners and staff!!!

Holidaying in the area it was a gamble to head for the local chippy - but we hit the jackpot! Organic spuds peeled and chipped on the premises and local fish filleted and battered on the premises also. They have a license also so a bottle of wine to take away and a feast at the Marina was had by all. Brilliant Food!
