A great local pub with excellent customer service, locally sourced food, a chef with a passion to create great dishes and front of house staff that make the customer experience seamless. A simple seasonal menu with well cooked dishes and a relaxed atmosphere.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today with my son. We both opted for the Vegan option although we are not vegan. Staff took care to ensure we weren’t offered anything inappropriate for vegans, like the accompanying cauliflower cheese. Lots of variety in the vegetables on the side. Overall good value for money,.

This is a very special pub and it's great to have them back open again. They have live music, DJs, friendly staff, ale festivals... Closed for a year or so, they were sorely missed. Anyway, we visited for a Sunday lunch. It was "Meat Up Cambs", a street food vendor, in the kitchen. We're veggie and my halloumi summer salad - very green, included al dente green beans - was 10/10 - the best halloumi I've ever tasted! (seasoned and deep fried I think). My wife's nut roast was great too, homemade, with a nice gooey Hoi Sin-type flavour lending it an Asian vibe. Customer service at the bar was friendly as ever. The fries with our kids' meals were in the super league of fries - browned, hand-cut, moreish. Long may these inventive pub owners run this place. It's a unique gem, and is genuinely better than most of the pubs in Cambridge, but is just a little bit out in the beautiful south Cambridgeshire countryside, the beautiful village of Shepreth specifically.

So sad to see that since this has been taken over by new owners it has gone from one of our favourite places to somewhere we are very unlikely to visit again. It used to feel like visiting family or friends. The warm welcome, the atmosphere and delicious home made meals and the best cheesecakes! Sadly that has all now gone.

This is a music venue pub. Absolutely unpretentious and a delight. Friendly attentive staff, simple but super yummy food (some is foraged so prepare for parasol mushrooms and pineapple weed relish). Big range of beers, unusual ciders and wines. Big marquee with sound stage and further tented areas in garden. Take a cushion if you have a wooden bench! Went to see Cores do Samba, a Brazilian group from Cambridge. Very professional and fun. Pick your day, book early and enjoy yourself. The excellent staff will help make it. £5 is added to cost of each meal which goes to the band. My meals (on two occasions) have been about £60 for two including drinks. This pub delivers what is on the tin. And does it well. Highly recommended for a visit with a different twist.

We were disappointed by the reality of the dishes. We had the 3x3 menu and dishes ranged from mediocre to nearly inedible. In particular the chicken liver mousse served with the wood pidgeon. Not only did this leave an aftertaste which lingered for the rest of our meal, it also smelt awful. The main and pudding were edible but not especially enjoyable. The service was good.

Found this pub following a country walk with our dog after our planned pub was “too busy” (we arrived early and all the tables were empty!). Their loss and our gain though as this place is fantastic! Food was amazing - the most incredible scotch egg in my meal even had a runny yoke, absolutely delicious! Staff were really friendly helpful and welcoming. And I can honestly say they are by far the best place I’ve been to for their COVID safety. They’ve got it bang on while still making it a great place to visit. We’ve since been back for the Saturday night music evening and that was great too, best night out we’d had in a LONG time. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

We went here on Sunday for lunch. They are taking lockdown easing seriously (temperature checks etc) but was lovely to be able to eat out and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There's a brilliant list of ciders and beers as well as good wine. I think they are starting to do Sunday lunch again shortly which will be fab, based on what we ate - the bubble and squeak croquettes were AMAZING and the dirty fries with pulled beef were pretty cool too. Steve the chef is into foraging so you know the food is local and interesting. It's very dog and child friendly and the music is fantastic. Highly recommended!

We live locally and hadn't been in for a few months. The Plough is a lovely pub, the sort of place you can easily while away a Saturday afternoon either in the bar or outside in the summer. Friendly staff, fantastic wine list, well kept ales, live music and a garden full of families in the summer. What seems to have gone very wrong though is the menu. High quality and reliable pub favourites have largely been replaced by a confused try-hard menu that seems to be playing more to the ego of whoever runs the kitchen than it does the customers. There are some interesting and quirky menu items, but the written descriptions write cheques that the food just can't cash. The few pub staples that are available were adequate at best. Soggy, bland pizza with odd-tasting mozzarella. Dry buttermilk chicken. Steak served with a goats cheese salad (as coveted by nobody ever). And no kids menu, because kids just want smaller portions of the adult menu, right? Such a shame because everything else about The Plough is just so right. I hope the owner sees some sense and takes the menu back to what it used to be.

The staff were accommodating for a big number and even went to the trouble as hanging up some birthday banners and writing a Happy Birthday message on the table! We visited on a Thursday night with friends to see The Lightwaves (who were excellent). We had a good meal - service was friendly and the staff were knowledgable, the food was tasty and good value and the choice of ciders was much to the liking of the non-drivers in our party. The only negative was the alternative presentation of the Cranachan - too much whiskey by far and the oats appeared to be a garnish - it just wasn’t to my taste / expectation. Will definitely was visiting again. Thank you.

This has got to be one of the liveliest pubs I have visited this year.We only went in for a quick beer to catch up with some friends who have just moved to the village. And we couldn't believe how friendly the pub was.It was only 7pm on Friday evening and the place was packed. I loved my Grain slate porter. But at £3.50 for a half, it was one of the most expensive beers I have had anywhere in the world in 2019. (This is why its four and not five stars). There was a fantastic Christmas tree made from glass bottles, while I also loved the real record decks on the bar - the Average White Band never sounded so good. And there was a blackboard of community events going on through the next month. This has got to be one of the best community pubs in Cambridgeshire.

Had a lovely lunch today. Had the fishcake to start which was great, lovely and light with a perfectly cooked poached egg on top.Main had to be the roast beef, which was cooked to perfection! Huge variety of fresh veg topped off with a full bodied gravy!!There was a large group with some children going in and out of the back door, slamming as they went along. But unlike others, I appreciated this wasn’t the fault of the pub...more the parents. Don’t leave a bad review due to other customers behaviour in my opinion!

Decided on a whim to drive out from Cambridge for a family Sunday lunch at a 'pub in the country', something which can be hit or miss; however, The Plough was a great choice. Fantastic choice of beers and ciders, as is well known, but the food also lived up to our hopes. Service wasn't quick, although nobody wants that for Sunday lunch anyway, do they? Good range of roasts available, and between our group we tried most of them, with encouraging verdicts all round. Generous portions of veg and a fun atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended.

When we arrived and got our drinks I quipped with the landlord that I’d let him know if I thought it was a worthwhile journey. We all ordered our food and it duly arrived, served by really charming and helpful waitresses. It was simply divine. While it wasn’t fussy fine dining it was good wholesome food that had been cooked perfectly. As we left I assured them it had definitely been worth the journey and will definitely be going back again, and again.

My husband I are fond patrons of this well run and established pub in Shepreth. I am loathe to write anything negative. As always the staff were friendly, the food (beer battered fish, vegan beer battered sausages et al - delicious) but it was cold! We are well into September and I wasn't flimsily dressed, but sitting for any length of time well inside the pub with the through draft from front door (open) to back (the waitress said the couldn't close the doors as they were "doing some work for the Beer Festival"!). I was there for lunch and a quiet drink with my husband. It may be a beer festival, but I had gone for a pub meal inside out of the cold! I had to get my coat from the car and place napkins on my knees to stay warm! I can bet few of us dare say anything about little kids in pubs re my next point. Aren't we supposed to dote on the little moppets, smile, houmour the family and chortle at their tiny childish ways! Not if they screech as these two did! No thanks! The family sat right next to our table - they of course, are allowed to go where they want right? It doesn't make it okay to keep kids screeching on though, assuming everyone else is cool with such inconsiderate behaviour. The design of the human voice box in children under 3 provides a piercing frequency to alert the parent of apparent discomfort, danger to or loss of their child. This frequency in a lunchtime busy pub, for example, cuts across all usual intervening or ambient sound such as mid-frequency pub chat (even in larger groups), scraping chairs, even a racing car going by - it is NOT designed as a desirable accompaniment for quiet adult company during a rare lunch break! Why can't the parents be responsible and pop outside to nurse or comfort screaming toddlers? The kiddies clearly weren't happy for whatever reason in the pub! It sounds like Mrs Angry - but I don't doubt I talk for the silent majority who don't want to be labelled (unfairly no doubt in most instances) as child-haters! Some pubs limit small children under certain ages and do the same, even for older children, after 7pm. This was a lunch time - but it isn't a kiddies nursery or this family's kitchen where the kiddies could have screeched in the comfort of their own homes and seen how their parents liked it!Thank you The Plough, I will come again - but could you consider having a family space for young families or please age-limiting seated guests within the bar and restaurant area. It is disappointing at best to have to put my hands over my ears to even think - that though being - GET ME OUT OF HERE!

A really good evening. But I thought it was expensive. The cost was £35 a head for a disco (very good !) and a curry (very poor). Been here a few times recently and am impressed each time. If you want a nice place to meet up with friends and have a'catch-up' conversations over a meal and drink then this is great. Not the ambient noise that a lot of pub restaurants seem to have nowadays so no need to shout at each other to be heard. Food is relatively simple with a limited menu but well cooked. The pizzas are good especially the seafood one. They have a good selection of wines and a few good beers which change regularly. Apparently they have an amazing range of ciders although this is not my tipple so cannot comment on that..

Had a poor experience here a couple of years ago and naturally haven't been back for a while, so was pleasantly surprised to enjoy a good Sunday lunch. Everything was tasty - choice of the usual three meats and a veg option, plus other dishes all around 13-15 pounds. My only minor quibbles were that too much mustard spoiled the cauliflower cheese, and the children's burger wasn't very filling, but other choices all went down well. Drinks are a bit pricey with beer around 4.60 a pint but it was all well kept and fresh. It wasn't overly busy on a Sunday but the experience was certainly better than expected and much better than the pub's local reputation. We would happily go back.

I want this venture to succeed; it's in my village. But having left a glowing review last time around we were disappointed on booking Sunday lunch this month. The platter of meat came with the beef and lamb piled upon each other - couldn't tell which was which as it was all over-cooked (think school lunches) and there wasn't enough for five of us. I had to ask for more. Nor were there enough vegetables. The roast potatoes weren't crunchy. Oh, and the lamb was down to the last four portions when we arrived at 1.00 pm and among the first to order. How on earth did that happen? I will think very carefully before returning for a Sunday meal, at least. Has the chef changed yet again? Or is it simply under-staffing? Very sad to write this.

A party of 40 people just celebrated my mum's 90th birthday with lunch at The Plough. We had a lovely roast beef and/or salmon buffet with salads, potatoes, bread etc. Followed by fresh strawberries, cream or ice-cream. All served by a friendly waitress who couldn't do enough to help us. The food was plentiful and delicious and arrived on time. We brought our own birthday cake and they were happy to help us serve it.The whole atmosphere was very relaxed and happy. There was ample room to spread out on to the terrace and garden, so groups could congregate and mingle during the afternoon. Everybody seemed very happy with the food and the setting, and given that there was an age-gap of nearly 90 years, that was some achievement. We have had lunch at The Plough on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. I am very surprised to read some of the negative reviews written about this place and can only assume a change in personnel has resulted in things being much better now. We will certainly be going back, as will other members of our party for whom this was a first visit. Well done to Nick and his team, and thank you for making it such a special occasion for my mum.

Just returned from lunch at The Plough with my lovely daughter and her two children, one aged 3+ and one aged 1+. We arrived just before 12 noon, only two people ahead of us so we expected reasonably quick service - which you DO need with young children/babies. We were still waiting after 3/4 of an hour, children getting hungry & agitated, gave the barman a nudge & in fairness he did have a word with the chef. I appreciate that food can take time but we arrived well before any rush (and how long can a child's portion of sausage & chips take?) But here's the REAL problem - whilst waiting for the food and trying to calm her youngest, who was getting hungry and distressed, my daughter spoke with the waitress and received nothing but 'attitude' from her, no apology for the delay just stroppy comments that it was nothing to do with her, she doesn't cook the food, etc, etc. It does beg the question - if you really don't like your job and you really don't like people, or paying customers, then why not just find another job? I have eaten at the Plough several times before but I won't be going back, I'll just stick to the British Queen in Meldreth where the staff are lovely people and my family won't be subjected to 'attitude'.

There's always something interesting going on at The Plough.... live bands, music (spinning records), art exhibitions, Vera's Gin Club, etc. This wonderful pub offers something for everyone. It's spacious with a good layout and lots of room outside too. The food is very good, and their new Sunday Lunch menu is particularly excellent. Great beers on tap (see the Craft Board too) and a good selection of wines. Good service and always friendly and welcoming.

Went here with friends, and had very good food, and an excellent selection of beers. Vegetarian choice was limited with only one option, but well cooked and enjoyable. Service was efficient and friendly. Decor was interesting and the toilets unusual!

We had a very good Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday - very good roast meat, with all the trimmings. Friendly and efficient service and a great atmosphere.

Very disappointed with service, all courses were pre ordered but still had to wait over an hour for main course. If we hadn't been with a group we would have left. Waitresses appeared bored and unhelpful, not a smile in sight. However, when the food did come it was delicious and really well cooked.Sort out your service and we will be back

We booked Sunday lunch here and there is a new chef. Vast improvement. The roast beef was nicely medium rare, pleasant yorkshire, crispy roast potatoes, cabbage with proper texture, carrot and celeriac mash was nicely seasoned with a bit of texture and some delicious creamy cauliflower cheese. Was really pleasantly surprised. Downside was the length of time the bill took - it drives me mad to sit around waiting to pay. But apart from that, we enjoyed ourselves and hope they can maintain the standard in the kitchen because if so we'll use it regularly again. Our waitress was pleasant but they need a few more hands to the deck.

Our visit coincided with the "new" Sunday lunch menu. Three adults and one child enjoyed the various roasts on offer. The sharing boards added to the experience. All the meat and vegetables were well cooked, but not over cooked. Quite a feat when the place was buzzingThe desserts were all delicious tooWell done to The Plough

Visited for Sunday lunch today, the food was fairly good, certainly better than average but the service was really not up to much. Plenty of staff on but they all seemed disinterested and inattentive. We have been before and would still go back as it is a nice place and the food generally good, but the staff really need to focus on the customers, seems to be slipping slightly...

Visiting with another family we found The Plough a little disappointing. There was nothing wrong with anything but we just felt there was a bit of a flat atmosphere and the staff could have been a bit more on the ball. It wasn't really busy but it took a fair amount of time to get another drink!!!

We decided to give The Plough a second chance after a very disappointing visit last year, only to wish we hadn't. We ordered our food half an hour after arriving (we had to ask for our order to be taken) and our meal then arrived fifty minutes later. The food was absolutely disgusting! It was undercooked and cold! The worst part was when we complained, the staff were so rude I felt like crying when we left! We will never ever go back!! Beware.

We visited the Plough for a Sunday lunch in January to celebrate a special family member's birthday (something and a naught!) with a party of 9 including young children. Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience consistent with many of the themes I've now seen in other reviews, namely a long delay for food (nearly an hour despite being the first to order, not great for hungry kids!), cold food and inattentive staff (despite the restaurant not being busy, we had to go to the bar several times to order dessert etc.). I emailed the owners afterwards to convey our disappointment but, alas, reply came there none! This is a great shame for what is a well decorated pub/restaurant with a decent looking menu. We are local and would like to frequent the Plough regularly. Unfortunately, we'll be going elsewhere next time.

We have visited the Plough several times and had a lovely roast but today was very disappointing. Most meals were cold, potatoes hardly cooked, Roast beef must have been in some kind of hot plate as one side had dried out. I had to send the children's chicken back as it had blood in most of it and did not look pleasant at all. Such a shame as we've enjoyed many meals here. We won't be rushing back

Haven't been here for a long time. The menu is pretty basic so not much to challenge the kitchen. A group of us had the sharing platter, mix of small bites which was ok but nothing more. Main courses were fish and chips, pie, burgers or steaks. The fire alarm went off just as our starter was served and we were asked to go outside for at least 10 minutes They did offer to reheat the starter but it was cold anyway. No apologies or explanation about the alarm going off. Nothing to really encourage me to return. I think the owners would do well if they reviewed their bar menu

Came here for my father-in-law's 73rd birthday dinner. Table was booked for 7:30. The rest of the restaurant was virtually empty. Ordered starters at 8:00 and had to wait 45 mins for them to arrive. Another half an hour for the mains to arrive afterwards. When we went to order dessert, we were told we were too late as the kitchens had now closed. We explained to the waitress that had we not had to wait so long for the food we would have been in time to order dessert. She agreed and went and spoke to the kitchen, who then agreed to provide 4 ice-creams and 1 Sticky Toffee pudding. A further 25 mins passed before they arrived and the Sticky Toffee pudding was cold! I asked to speak to the manager to let them know that it had somewhat spoilt the evening & that two of the party had to leave before dessert to get back to the babysitter. The owner came to ask me what the problem was and when I explained his answer was "what do you want from me" when I said I didn't want anything from him he repeated it again with a smirk on his face. He then asked if I was local and I said I wasn't, so he asked if I was sure, and had I been there before - which I hadn't. I'm not sure what that had to do with anything. An older lady who was connected to the pub in some way then started pacing backwards and forwards past our table with her arms folded and periodically glaring over at us. I've never know customer service so intimidating and rude in my life!

Bizzare managemt ... not really a pub ... masquerades as a private club selling tickets and private parties ....purely profit Whilst the management might be smug about guaranteeing full tables I advance ... which hey would have anyway on new year they alienate regulars Good luck to them we will find somewhere more welcoming

Family went to The Plough for lunch. Arrived on time and table all set but downhill from then. Wrong wine bought to the table, four items we ordered from the menu were not available, starters took half an hour to arrive and the main courses another hour after those. No apologies or explanations. Food acceptable but nothing special. No one on the staff asked if everything ok and all had their heads down when we left. It was not very busy while we were there and so there was no excuse for the delays and the poor service. A very good way to lose customers.

We visited here with elderly relatives. The bar staff were lovely and the selections of beers good. Three of us ordered the half size fish and chips as we wanted to be able to manage a dessert. The other member of the party had the 3 sausages and mash (the large version). Two of the fish and chips were fine, definitely half size, but one piece was so minuscule, would just about have filled a tablespoon. We were asked if we wanted ordinary chips, all agreeing as the older members of the party didn't want the sweet potato version. Mistake, there are three types of chips on offer, I'd recommend you try the triple cooked ones rather than the fried frozen ones. Not reading the menu properly meant we had missed there were three options. Desserts chosen, the one sticky toffee pudding arrived, as did the two portions of ginger cheesecake. The waitress then returned with the last one, chocolate brownie. She started to walk away. I mentioned that the cheesecake, on the menu, was accompanied by rhubarb compote. 'Oh I think we've run out of that' was the response. 'I'll go and ask'. My request was, 'If there isn't any could we have some ice cream' 'I'll check' she replied. She returned with two small bowls each with a scoop of very nice ice cream. Very sour expression on her face. My thoughts on this were, why did they expect us to pay full price for a dessert and only get half the items. Did they really think we wouldn't notice or wouldn't mind? Well we did!

The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. The music is jazzy and the ideas are great. They've thought logically about what people wouldn't like in a pub and taken that into account. The precision and time taken in the interior and the transformation from old to new was obviously thought about carefully. The food is delightful and atmosphere is comforting and is very homely. I feel great and i recommend to everyone....friends, family...everyone. There is a meetings room upstairs next to the art gallery which ranges from professional artists to GCSE students. Overall, just go there...right now!!

Three of us had Sunday lunch in this restaurant today. Ordered the roast, nice food but cold. Sent mine back, second meal was warmer but roast potatoes still stone cold. Ate it because I was really hungry by then, complained again. No offer of a discount. At £16 a head we expected better. Won't be going back.

Was looking forward to my meal but so sadly disappointed. The wait for service was unacceptable and I had to ask to be served in the end. Then our starters took 30 minutes to come, by which stage I was gasping for food. Nice starters. The main - one veggie and one normal burger were again disappointing. Actually the veggie burger tasted of absolutely nothing and was not of any quality to be served in a pub. Will not return.

Nice pizza, although an amount of tin foil stuck to bottom of pizza.Good job I looked!Verbally abused by woman in kitchen shouting out to the car park where I was manoeuvring my car out as inconsiderate parkers. She shouted not to hit her car - got quite loud.I have been driving for over 40 years and have never had an accident - my car has front and rear sensors....parking is not a problem even though it is a large car.May I suggest she concentrates on cooking without leaving foil on pizza's and not worry about her car.Good band.

We visited The Plough with high hopes only to be incredibly disappointed. The food was an oily mess and the service was horrendous. The staff however were incredibly friendly but that certainly didn't make up for the rest of it! Sorry to say it's not living up to expectations.

We have used this pub for many years under three successive owners. The Plough has a lively, friendly atmosphere, a good pub menu and an extensive drink selection. The serving staff are sociable and efficient. Being rather "mature" we eat only moderately and the Plough light meal menu is perfect for us. In particular, the availability of half a fish, half a burger, or bangers and mash with one, two or three sausages suits our needs perfectly. Hence, for a few months we enjoyed a light supper at The Plough at least weekly. I particularly liked the half fish and chips with peas and tartar sauce. I also enjoyed a side order of onion rings. Unfortunately, on our last visit, the chef decided that Onion rings could not be served with the fried fish ! The waitress consulted the pub landlord (who recognised me as a regular) but he endorsed the chef's decision ! As I paid the bill I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the landlord but he was unconcerned.Consequently, we have discontinued our use of The Plough and now take our custom to places that provide a decent customer service.

Tucked away off the A10, this place has a great vibe. The place was buzzing when I visited. I loved seeing the coffee beans being roasted right there as you walk in and the aroma is incredible. The Turkish eggs were to die for. Step aside shakshuka, I think I’ve found my new favourite brunch. The coffee was rich and smooth, enhanced I’m sure by those amazing coffee aromas. Service was snappy and friendly. I’ll be back!
