Smashing place. Out in the sticks but worth the drive to get there. Has ample parking and a recently outfitted children’s area. A cosy atmosphere created by the log burner fireplace is complimented by a good menu and great wine selection. The food is presented well and taste great. The mobile signal is weak but the pub does have free wi-fi available. The children are well catered for with a choice of activities, children’s menu and good selection of toys in their own area.

Now a coffee shop rather than a pub, the food is excellent, as was the young lady running front of house. It’s still got that cosy pub ambience, especially in the winter when the wood burner is fired up, but it suits the high-end coffee emporium idea really rather well. Random suggestion: would it be possible to put scones on the menu as well as the tea cake? It would also give the option to make up an afternoon tea affair from elements already on the menu. Pro tip: find a spot near the fire and chill. The food service wasn’t the absolute fastest (but it was OK!) as there seems to be a huge shortage of staff to work in the hospitality industry post-COVID. Your best bet is to order drinks, sit back and relax…

I visited here with my father and a friend. It is my father's favourite place and we are so lucky it is so local. My friend over from NZ had scampi while Dad and I had the chicken Kiev. We were warned that this dish was cooked to order and would take around 25 minutes. Am I glad we chose this dish? Oh yes. Served with new potatoes and salad, it was delicious. A huge piece of chicken breast, cooked perfectly. Scampi was good too. It's worth going just for this dish, but joking apart, it was a quiet Thursday and still a few couples who know about this gem. I've been here with large and small groups, and the service is always the same. Efficient and friendly.

Two of us had Sunday lunch here and did enjoy what we had but didn't think it was value for what is on the plate. Although the quality was fine the quantity was in my opinion was lacking for what you pay. I chose the pork and it tasted good but only 3 thin very small slices, veg was a variety but each portion very scarce. 1 spoon of mash & turnip ,tiny sprig of colly & broccoli a spoonful of peas, couple of small bits of carrot & 2 tiny roast potatos, big Yorkshire pudding but it was cold! In my opinion when you're paying £13 for a Sunday lunch you should be full & although I have got a biggish appetite I wasn't!

Four of us visited the restaurant today without booking. We secured a table and sat down to a welcoming visit from the waiter and had our drinks served straightaway while we selected from an extensive menu. The breadth of choice offered catered for every type of customer and style of cooking. Our table ordered four different dishes from the Special Menu and the a la carte. All arrived at the same time, piping hot and well presented. Compared to the one or two negative reviews I have read all I can say is they must have been eating at a different restaurant. The food was superb, ample portions and staff who couldn’t do enough for you. The surroundings are relaxing , all of which made for one of the best dining experiences I’ve had for a long time. Visited 19:30 friday 16th August, met a waitress who looked disappointed by our arrival, I explained we had not booked she tried to take is straight into the restaurant, I said we would like to go in the lounge first which is usual when we visit, for some reason this waitress not happy, when in the lounge we expected someone to come in with menus & take order for drinks, we waited a while & I went back to the bar this time the same waitress is behind the bar I asked could I order drinks, she asked what do you want I ordered 3 drinks & she made a comment saying a might be able to do this I returned to the lounge & waited for the drinks, a little later another waitress ( young) came in with 2 drinks & asked what the 3 drink was we wanted she duly brought it.then waiter arrived & asked if we would like to order which we did & proceeded into restaurant. I noticed the unfriendly waitress was nowhere to be seen. I came to the conclusion that this person must have been told by management that she could go because it was unusually quiet & our arrival delayed her going, I must say the rest of the staff were the usual friendly type we have encountered whenever we have eaten here. We had a great meal( too much food as usual) This experience put an unnecessary damper on the night.

What a wonderful place, recommend by family friends. A lovely welcome from the staff who asked us to choose our table and took our drinks’ order while we chose our meals. We all ordered 4 different dishes: salmon, fish platter, chicken Kiev and chicken cooked with cream and garlic. Everything was absolutely delicious and piping hot. All vegetables and salads were fresh and tasty. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely and tastefully decorated. Light flooded into the room. We spoke to the daughter of the owner who was obviously dedicated to the family business. My only disappointment was being too full to eat a desert. The choices sounded delicious.

We had never been here before and wanted to try somewhere different for our Sunday lunch. We were assured that with just the two of us eating we could turn up anytime and would be seated. They do advise larger groups should book in advance to make sure there is room. The service was friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and was lovely. A large plate of meat with a wide variety of vegetables and a good Yorkshire pudding to top it all off. Beautifully cooked and enough for even the heartiest of appetites. We did manage to find room for desserts - sticky toffee pudding and homemade crumble - we were given a choice of ice cream or custard. Large clean dining room with comfortable tables and chair. What a pleasure and a lovely “find” for us.

We visited with friends on Wednesday 8th August for an evening meal. The ambience was excellent. There was a wide choice of menu, either English or Chinese but not too much to be overpowering - just right. The young ladies who served us were lovely. They were charming and most professional in their approach yet they were able to chat and share a joke. They had time for everyone and in no way hurried us in making our choices of food or of the time we were in the restaurant. The food was well prepared, well served and was hot and most tasty. A very enjoyable evening. We will return when we are again in the area. We attended my father's 90th birthday private lunch here in the upstairs dining room; 54 people attending and had made their menu choices in advance varying from roast beef, roast chicken breast and sea bass to 2 vegetarian options. Choice of 3 desserts, Eton Mess, cheesecake or fresh fruit salad. As I was the main organiser for the event I had the opportunity to speak to all of the guests attending and everyone of them said how good the food was and complimented the staff on the level of personal service they gave. I can only endorse what the other guests said to me. Superb food (I had the roast beef which was amongst the most tender I have ever eaten followed by a gorgeous Eton Mess) The staff were fantastic throughout the whole 4 hours we were there from when they were greeting guests arriving to saying thank you and wishing everyone a safe journey when we all left. Of particular mention is Val Graham the landlady who helped organise the menu choices ,wine list and venue lay out and her daughter Emma who was in overall charge of service for us that day. Extremely professional and they helped make my father's special day just that bit more special. Can't recommend this place enough

We all enjoyed our meals and considering it was Fathers Day and busy we had excellent service. All questions answered from a warm, friendly professional waiting team. I had a vegetarian nut roast and others had the beef. Vegetables were super fresh and cooked to perfection. One tiny point is that the beef is served very thin and my family would have preferred thicker slices... however it didn't take away from the taste or overall experience. Thank you.

I hadn’t been to this pub in 30 years and my Grandfather used to deliver meat from the store van to the tenants long before food in pubs became popular. I’d heard great reports about a massive refurbishment and a luxurious venue and indeed this is the case. I visited with my wife and son and we all ordered the steak meal which we all enjoyed, and my son had coffee and I had a glass of red wine served in an immaculate glass, and as I’d not been here for 30 years or so I wandered through the pub and upstairs where I took a fancy to a crockery hen , which I purchased for my daughter. The look of puzzlement upon the waitresses faces when I asked about prices not being displayed in the bar area or on the menus was in itself puzzling to me. The legislation is clear, and states that where the information is displayed is not prescribed, but that it should be clear and easily readable by the average customer. Bars should show the price list at the bar where orders are taken. Not here. Further, and in the alternative, “ Menus and price lists must include all material information required by an average consumer to make an informed choice, such as name, brand, strength, PRICE of drinks” Not here either. These rules from the The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008...I need to make an informed choice because that is my entitlment in law, and it simply was not available here. I telephoned the manageress to enquirer about pricing and to make a complaint about my bill, which I found slightly confusing, but the bill was correct and I apologised for my mistake. What followed was an angry and belligerent tirade at my very impudence for daring to challenge her pricing policies, that she’d spent a fortune on a massive renovation, (true), and what was I doing wandering around all the rooms looking for something to nit pick....not true....I hadn’t been here for over thirty years, was curious about the changes and explored....it is, after all,a public place. This lady was really upset, and as she’d said she’d just returned from one day off, I recognised enormous stress was part of the conversation, and I backed off, and terminated the conversation. I am well aware of the enormous stress still evident in the catering industry, and had no wish to exacerbate her anger. I, and my family also know about customer service at a very high level, as we have catered for and served to the wealthy, the Aristocracy, and a senior member of the Royal family. I considered this pricing issue of minor concern to management but clearly I’d hit a raw nerve, but it is still legislation and should be followed. Although I am critical of any public house that does not follow legislative practice, I also pursue the rules because my dear son is registered blind, and partial sight is not enough to read menus, and when he asked me the price of a glass of red wine I couldn’t tell him. I and my family are all disabled in one way or another, and I sought a relaxed venue serving good food, and providing good service, and indeed this was the case, but this was not a healthy exchange of views as to pricing display, and I’m afraid my next visit is thirty years down the line, but perhaps not, because the wooden overcoat will have arrived long before then....pip pip!

The only thing that spoiled the visit was that there is no gluten free bread available which in this day and age is not acceptable. Four of us had lunch at the Plough Inn yesterday afternoon and what a thoroughly pleasant experience it was. Warmly greeted we were given a choice of tables and our order for drinks was immediately taken care of. A wide selection of starters, main courses and desserts available to suit all requirements with starters and desserts costing about a fiver and mains about £15. Of course you can spend a lot more if you are really hungry! We only ordered mains – a chicken Kiev, a beef burger, scampi and liver and bacon all of which arrived in a timely manner and were obviously freshly made to order. All the food we had was very good indeed and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was good enough as it were with a couple of waitresses rushing around but perhaps they could do with more help which, it is apparent, would help. The Plough Inn is now closed on a Monday and Tuesday for lunch by the way just to save anyone a journey and ending up disappointed. We will certainly return though and I would recommend you try it for lunch as I know that you will have a good a time as we did.

I have spent many pleasant visits to the Plough and have always been delighted. I therefore decided to take my sister and brother in law there for their special anniversary.I telephoned on the 11th July to book a table for 4 I spoke to a young man who took the particulars, today I arrived and was treat like a recalcitrant child and told I should not have booked a table for 6 when there were only four persons, I was told they do not book tables for four. I explained that I had only booked for four, but was told that was impossible it was in the book for six. I was shocked at this attitude, this was the first time my sister had been to the Plough and I found it extremely embarrassing. The food and serving staff were excellent as usual, but I must admit it has totally spoilt what had been an extremely pleasant venue. I have been in business myself for 40yrs, and there is no way I would have spoken to my customers in the way I was spoken to today.

This is a tastefully renovated old inn. It is, given its position out in the countryside, primarily a dining pub with a small number of ensuite rooms. The rooms are comfortable with all the modern facilities including wifi. The inn is managed and run as a family concern and all are friendly and approachable. All the food is freshly prepared and judging by the lunch we had is excellent value for money. Probably because the inn is only accessible by car the range of beers is limited to one 'real ale' with the rest of the pumps serving keg alternatives. Breakfasts are great if you like a cooked one. The full English is a real treat. Fresh fruit/continental options are limited however. If you are looking for an alternative to the large in-town hotels then I would strongly recommend the Plough. It would be a great base from which to explore the nearby Hadrian's Wall or cycle the quiet lanes in the area. Driving into the centre of Newcastle takes around 20 minutes down the A69.

The wife and I called without a reservation on Saturday night and were greeted by a very friendly staff. The food was very good and the price reasonable. Unfortunately there were quite a few flies in the restaurant due to the hat weather and the patio doors being open. This did not however spoil the vening and we will be back.

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch here last Sunday and will definitely go back. I had the lamb and hubby had the beef. Both were perfectly cooked. Veg was fresh and again, perfectly cooked and just enough. The staff were lovely and very attentive. It's quite a drive out to Stamfordham but well worth it if you are looking for a good Sunday lunch.

Waitresses and staff were awful and the supposed owner even worse. Lots of flys, poor customer service and wont be going back. Too many bad things to list. One of the worst meals we have had in a long time.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Service was prompt and courteous , but it was very early. We all ordered the beef. Decent Yorkshire puddings , but everything else was flavourless - especially the small portion of wafer thin beef and the watery gravy. OK for a fast Sunday lunch but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

This has been our fourth time and yet again had a delightful visit. The food the presentation the service and to enjoy being in a old pub that has been lovingly restored to such an exacting high standard is a joy. After reading previous reviews and how much the owner gets annoyed about the chips being allegedly bought in frozen i could not resist trying one our friends and hereby assure everyone reading my review do not believe everything you read on Tripadvisor the chips are fine and home made.

Had a meal which was not up to standard. The chips were ready made packet chips and were like cardboard the homemade pie was not hot enough in the middle and had soggy pastry as it was covered in gravy not appetising to look at.The veg was good so that is why i gave 3 stars. If it had been just pie and chips it would have got 1 star.

We tried this pub for a midweek dinner for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised. The welcome was good and the choice of food was very wide with some interesting specials and it was all tasty and fresh. I had the Pork Confit with Haggis which was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. The service was fine and the atmosphere pleasant enough. We liked it and we will be back.

As soon as we arrived we felt that we were not welcome. We were rushed continuously to order, no time between courses, told we had 5 minutes to choose desert as the kitchen was closing even though it was only 9:30.Asked the waiter the size of the mixed grill to be told you were either a man or a wimp.Bottle of wine delivered but not opened or poured.Food was reasonable but the presentation of the mixed grill was atrocious, just thrown on the plate with a broken fried egg.Chips were supposed to be hand cut but looked and tasted frozen.Only one special available.Staff were closing down the bar before we had finished. As the location is a taxi ride from everywhere the owners should ensure that it is welcoming and employ a chef and staff that are not desperate to go home.

Came here for the first time for a family meal, and wasn't disappointed. Really generous portion sizes and high quality food. Very quiet inside but everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and would all go back again. It's a proper hidden gem.

I love this pub, its elegance and ambience is fantastic; however........ we always like to have a late lunch and last orders for Sunday lunch is 5pm. We ordered our food at 4.15, the starters came soon after and were fabulous however when out beef dinners came the beef was catering beef (boil in the bag) and not carved from a proper roast as expected. The vegetable and Yorkshire puddings were lovely, the roasties did have a lot to be desired, but expected. We did complain after the meal in reality we should have sent the food back, then you hear all sorts of horror stories when something has gone back to a kitchen..... What you would expect…. if they had ran out of the proper carved beef you would be told that there was a beef supplement or you could opt for an alternative, Chicken, lamb etc. I just feel disappointed that as diners sometimes you cheated, we spent £70.00 on lunch for two, and no apology.

I've visited a few times with family. It's always quiet when we go (lunch time on Saturdays usually) and I think it's because it's quite out of the way. I usually always get the chicken kiev and I would always recommend this. It's so nice, I ask for chips instead of potatoes and they're always good. Only downside is you don't get loads of mayonnaise when you ask for some, that's honestly the only bad thing I can think of and even then you can just ask for more. The staff are lovely too, and its always so clean and tidy. It's a bit out of the way for me, we normally only visit because family live near there but I would definitely go more regularly, I think the food is worth the travel.

Not a place you would think about going as you have to drive due to the location, however the food and service were excellent. Portions sizes were very good and not that expensive at £13.95 for two courses. The wine was reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this beautiful restaurant. They also have rooms available and the décor throughout is very good indeed. The only slightly negative we found was we had called earlier in the day to see when last orders were for Sunday lunch and we were told 5.15pm. We arrived at 4.00pm to have a few drinks in the bar before lunch however at 4.45pm we were asked to place our order as the chefs wanted to clear down. It wasn't an issue but the staff all need to be all clued up on facts. We will definitely go back.

Booked for Christmas lunch more like average Sunday roast. An hour into meal it went seriously downhill. Waiting an hour between meals is seen as acceptable by management. Let's see.. firstly manager/owner has a real attitude problem and can't handle negitive feedback and uses excuse of being short staffed. Menu doesn't reflect quality of food you get. Atmosphere bland and uncomfortable. At 90 pound per person expected better than this but hey ho. In your words all I want to do was moan. The fact is I stated i simply wanted to provide feedback expecting nothing from that feedback. I would strongly advise not to go to this place, it has potential but management don't care about experience of customers just their bank balances. Avoid like the plague. You might have a good few experiences but ultimately if you complain you see their true colours!!!

Me and my family have been to this place many time and it has always been excellent. On our last visit, they took our order pretty much as soon as we sat down but, it was only an hour later a waiter came over to apologise as the order had been lost behind another and they had not started preparing our food.We had to continue to wait and when the food did arrive, it wasn't good quality. My grandad, who is 88, paid for the bill and mentioned his disappointment to one of the staff and her reply was "We're not robots" Sad to say, we will not be going back here again.

The Plough did very well looking after 45 people and the food was great. The vegetables were particularly good as sometimes they are soggy when there's a big party. There was so much food, that some of our ladies had difficulty managing too much but it was excellent value. Will certainly go again

We stayed one Saturday night (as we were attending a party nearby) and were very impressed with the standard of the room. Beautifully presented, wonderfully comfortable bed with high quality linen, super shower room and all very clean. Everything we could have hoped for. Pleasant, friendly staff and then next morning, a wonderful Northumberland breakfast. Thank you all! We hope to return.

We used to visit the Plough many years ago when we lived in Darras Hall. We returned many years later for Sunday Lunch. The food was perfect - excellent quality - aldente vegetables, perfect roast meats and delicious gravy and Yorkshire puddings. They even gave us a Yorkshire pud for our dog. Excellent service. We'll return next year when we're back in the area.

The Plough came on high recommendation from a friend of a friend who had recently visited. It has been completely refurbished to a very high standard of décor and is a beautiful environment in which to dine (take no notice of the nursing home comments in another review!)I had the ribeye steak and it was cooked to perfection; the onion rings were fantastic. I only wish I'd had room for a starter or dessert! The service was friendly and efficient and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Plough. If ever I am in the area I will call again - it's such a shame that it is so far away from where I live!

My wife and I traveled up from Wiltshire to have a break in the north east and we was recommended of Tyneside life YouTube and by what a little Gem! We had the beef stew and hot beef sandwiche with two Tea’s and two peach Melba.s and the food is amazing hot tasty good quality! And the service is perfect and clean area! And the prize is not to argue about all for just shy of £23 bargain for home cooked food! Thanks Eddie and cafe eats!

Have just visited the Botanist and have walked out after waiting 20 minutes to be served at the bar. I joined a queue and proceeded to wait, as I watched 2 gentleman walk in and to the bar. After a long wait the barmaid proceeded to serve the two gentlemen! I was so shocked I angry i proceeded to leave to which she pulled a face and said "they were there before you" , they WERENT as I had waited that long i made a point of taking note as to who had arrived in the time I was waiting. The attitude of this girl was deplorable and I won't be returning!
