Ordered both steaks and found them very tough and lacking much of any flavour. My ribeye was full of tough fat and bits of gristle and the Rump steak was beyond being tough and couldn’t be cut up with the steak knife. Was generally very below expectation. The peppercorn sauce was almost watery so where the cream and taste went I don’t know. The most tasty thing on the plate was the mushroom so that was a waste of £19.

We are so lucky to have the Plough as our local village pub and restaurant. We moved to Holford in September and have been many times since and always had the best experience. It’s the perfect mix of modern and Country, dog friendly with top class food. Caters well for locals and walkers taking advantage of the beautiful walks on the Quantocks from Holford. The Sunday lunch is very tasty and piping hot - recommend the Beef and mid week love the chicken skewers with the choice of sides, the belly pork bites and the cheesecake in a jar!!! I could go on… will be retuning v soon

We had our group Christmas meal last Thursday evening and it was just perfect. 12 of us had preordered from the Christmas menu and it was without doubt one of the best Christmas meals I have ever had. I think we had covered everything on the menu in our group and everything was beautifully presented and really tasty. The pub has got lovely Christmas decoration creating a lovely atmosphere. All the staff are attentive and welcoming and the service was just right, enough attention but not too much. It’s local for us and we do go quite often as a group and separately, it has everything we need. Well done To all the team and especially Michalae, great atmosphere, service and food. Big it up especially for the chefs, you really pulled the hat out of the bag last week.

Stopped off for lunch after a 5 mile tab across the quantocks. Lovely clean pub, friendly staff and a good pint of real ale. Had the home made steak and ale pie followed by the orange cheese cake. Absolutely gorgeous. Pie was full and stacked with flavour, the gravy was thick and full of flavour. Highly recommended.

I dropped in for the first time in 3 years last week for a drink as before the food was awful. The new owner Michaela, partner and her team over the last two years seem to have spruced the place up. Good ale and wine with friendly staff make a cosy welcome. I had a pint of Exmoor Gold and a glass of NZ white wine. I thought I ordered fish and chips after a conversation about home made batter but only chips came out. Never mind, crossed communtication. Late afternoon in the week but I cannot remember better chips, next time I will make sure I have the fish too.

Wow we though,t a really good option for a vegan roast (with gravy!) The meal arrived and looked delicious BUT..with cauli cheese? We were suspicious and checked and it was not Vegan so scraped it off the plate. If we had had just cauli it would have been 5 stars as the meal was good apart from that, with lots of gravy. We were not asked to stipulate Vegan or Vege but I did say Vegan roast when ordering. Vegan cheese could be used for both or not at all, it would be easier for the kitchen to just have the same meal for both. The drinks did not arrive before the food and it was unclear when to order as a waitress came and asked if we would like to order drinks while we were waiting for our drinks. She was very polite and came with drinks promptly.Thank you for trying though, much appreciated.

Waiting staff were lovely. Food was great, we’d been here a couple of years ago when on holiday and remembered it being a nice pub with good food. When we got our bill a few drinks had been added that weren’t ours, waiting staff very happy to remove the wrong drinks, but manager / landlady was a bit accusatory in checking we hadn’t had the drinks. Marred a lovely family lunch out a bit. Not sure we’ll be back next time we’re here to be honest. Shame, everything else was lovely.

Nothing exactly wrong but a very average meal. We were recommended the plough and told it was better than the Hood Arms down the road. Personally, we felt it wasn’t a patch on the Hood. The staff were nice. However, the food lacked seasoning and was tasteless. We asked for a wine list and was told it was out of date and didn’t have one which we found bizarre. Overall, wouldn’t return as think there are better pubs around with far greater quality.

Country pub in beautiful Quantock countryside, Welcoming, friendly and efficient staff. Covid-secure with sanitiser, one-way system, staff in masks. The staff had clearly thought about where to sit us with our lively dog. Service was prompt and efficient. We particularly appreciated the bowl of water (unasked-for, and produced spontaneously) and treat for the 4-legged guest. Food was good value pub grub. Atmosphere was friendly - families with small children, and several other dogs, were present. Good-sized car park. On a previous visit we were with a sizeable group of walkers and, on that occasion, everything went like clockwork - everyone got the right meals within a very short time of arrival. This place was good enough for Virginia Woolf, and I'm not surprised.

Thank goodness the Windmill Inn only had a small table at the bar as we chanced upon the Plough as we searched for an evening meal without a booking! The team here were fantastic. We were advised there was a large table and there might be a delay, but the service time was swifter than we've experienced elsewhere. There were great choices on the menu and we struggled to choose just one! The belly pork was delicious as were the Rib eye steaks. The steaks were cooked exactly as we had asked and the accompanying peppercorn sauce was very tasty. Its a shame we found this gem at the end of our holiday as we'd have definitely become regulars! Decided to pop in on our way to Watchet, we were met and directed to a table in the main lounge which was rather cool and dark, I presumed the conservatory was fully booked. However some people arrived a few minutes later they hadn't booked they asked for the conservatory and were shown in! I then asked the woman (owner/landlady?) if we could go in as well. You would think we were asking for the crown jewels she said she only had large tables, but grudgingly allowed us in. Found her v rude and absolutely no people skills. ..She kept reminding us we had to wear a mask changing tables..one of us didn't..The way she spoke to my mum was disgraceful. My mum has breathing problems but she never asked...Just brought a mask to her on a tray with us being too polite to tell her..She was v intimidating.Found it funny how she loved dogs(Bringing out dog bowls) More than she seemed to like people. Each area had its own menu board hung on the wall, so no need to stand next to anybody while you decide. The friendly waitress took our order at the table. We both went for the steak and Guinness which was excellent. The food came out and was turkey roast and the other was 3 small potatoes, few carrots small amount of broccoli, and cauliflower. One Yorkshire and one stuffing ball. No problems with the small portion, but I had to ask if there was a reduction as they charged a full price for the veg meal. After asking, the kitchen knocked off 1.50£. Other inns have charged the full price but added a extra veg, which I would of not queried, but for a small plate of veg 8.50£ was in my opinion too expensive. Perhaps I should of asked before we had the meal.

My mom is disabled and used a walker to access the pub. The pub was mostly accessible for her and she managed to use the bathroom ok, though this didn't look accessible for a wheelchair as it's situated in a corner behind a screen and was a bit tight to manoeuvre the walker. My partner and I called in here on Sunday and are so pleased we did. Everything from the service to the food was faultless. Had the best ever Sunday roast out, the lamb just melted in your mouth. The desserts were just as nice. Definitely recommend a visit and we'll be back :-)

I've not been here for a long time, but decided to give it a go. We sat in the new conservatory which is fabulous! I had a prawn cocktail, followed by rump steak and all the trimmings and the most delicious lemon cheesecake for dessert. Everything was perfect and the new beer garden looks awesome! Service was terrific too and the chap on the bar was very welcoming and made for a good atmosphere which is pretty unusual these days. Will definitely be going again and soon I hope!

We called here again after an absence of many months, since when they've just opened a smart new dining area overlooking the garden. The 'old' part of the pub was very busy, so it was good to be able to find a free table in a quieter part of the new area. Quite a good choice on the menu still; prices may have gone up a little, but still good value for the large portions supplied. OK, so it may not be 'fine dining' or the dreaded 'gastro pub' fare, but if you want a hearty meal after a long day of walking or driving etc, then we felt it to be good value - indeed we ended up sharing a dessert as we couldn't manage a whole one each! Rather surprised though that the dessert menu didn't included any 'light' options such as just ice-cream or sorbets etc, useful for those with smaller appetites. The 'all day' service is a boon for those who may want an early meal before heading home without having to hang around until later in the evening. Hopefully the decorators will do the toilets next !

We called here for lunch. We had 3 dogs with us but this was no problem, landlord said they were welcome as long as they were well behaved. The menu is fairly typical of a good pub but the food was well above the standard of many pubs food. A pleasant place to stop and would certainly go back. For those who don't like dogs there is a lovely new extension to the building that is dog free.

After walking on the Quantocks we randomly stopped here for Sunday lunch. We ate in a new conservatory area of the pub and I had very nice roast beef washed down with a cold grolsch. Really pleasant staff serving. A good find.

We arrived here last night after being stranded in the snow for over an hour and knowing that we would not make it to our destination. We were cold and miserable however Chris made us feel very welcome and helped us just like a Good Samaritan . Unfortunately it was far too late to enjoy the food, however I would like to comment on how lovely the new restaurant looked, we have eaten here before but that was 4 years ago but I remember that the food was very good.

Went here today for Sunday lunch for my brother's 65th birthday, a party of 30 of us, adults and children and I can't praise them enough. We did pre order our meals, but even so, the service was outstanding, the food came out quickly considering how many people there was and the food was excellent! It was a very relaxing atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome. Thank you so much, we had a really lovely afternoon.

Popped in on a Sunday night on the recommendation from a friend, it was absolutely lovely! We both had steak and it was cooked to perfection, the staff were nice and approachable, the owner even came over personally to have a chat and to make sure it was all ok. The menu isn’t huge, but the food is quality and reasonably priced. Will definitely recommend and return.

3rd visit to the plough. Very friendly and good service. Nice to see different choices on the menu. Great to take your dog as they are made welcome. Very good pub food which I would recommend to anyone. Always seems to have a fair few people there whenever we go so this is always a good sign. Nothing negative to say. All good

We had arrived around lunchtime to stay in the very good Coombe Hotel, and after booking in we returned to this pub alongside the A39 in the pretty little village of Holford. It was busy with customers, both in the inside the pub, with its interesting historical pictures, and outside in the ample sized beer garden. We chose to sit outside, in the shade of a tree as it was a very warm day.
