Had a quick lunch here today (small chicken, ham and leek pie, and some veg. Food fine. But I paid £27 for the food, an alcohol-free beer, and 2kWh of electricity. The latter cost £5! Great that they have a charger, but it's only worth paying if you are staying and charging overnight, as it only charges at 4kW.

I was in Wheddon Cross on a short break with a couple of friends down from North Kent , we decided to go and watch the England v Holland game on the Wednesday of our break and I've got to say it's the most friendly pub I have ever been in , the barmaid even asked us if we wanted our table moved closer to the TV as we did not have a clear view , it was a lovely gesture as I was a bit nervous about going into a pub I've never been in before and it made us feel more welcome

Just the kind of face you need for your business when a group of people try a pub for the first time. Pub itself is a bit run down, sort of old fashioned. Staff are nice and friendly and make a point of engaging with you. They make you feel very welcome. The regular menu is what you’d expect from a pub, nothing special but good enough. The children’s menu is disappointingly expensive for what you get. My daughter got a tiny pizza (frozen variety) and a very small portion of chips for £8. Poor value. Our mains were pretty good and we’re a large serving. We went back for a carvery at the weekend which was excellent - massive portion, tasty, well organised and friendly staff again. Slightly marred by the price of a pint of Guinness - it was £6.40 a pint!! That’s the most expensive Guinness I’ve ever drunk!! We are from Surrey and never pay more than a fiver, even in the poshest pub! Overall, I’d recommend this place, especially the carvery, but stick to the local ale - it’s much better value!

Visited last evening, yes it is open on a Monday, indeed open 7 days a week, with 2 friends who live locally and who rated the Inn very highly. Possibly the warmest welcome ever in a pub, shown to our table and drinks order taken, giving us several minutes to select food from the extensive menu. Other members of staff similarly friendly and with great senses of humour deliver the 4 different main courses, barely a scrap of anything left uneaten, then followed by differing selections from the dessert board, again with the same resulting empty bowls and dishes. Thankyou to the whole team for making it a really great evening.

Stayed here for a few nights having stayed the previous year too. Staff were friendly, room was suitably equipped, good supply of tea/coffee and toileteries. Nice view out to Dunkery Hill from the window. I ate in the pub on one of the evenings when they happened to be doing a carvery....delicious and large helpings! The dessert menu was a challenge to decide from, but profiteroles are always a winner for me and there was a good portion of them. They also provided the delicious food for an event at the village hall over the road on another night. Breakfast was substantial and there was a good choice (order the night before). Tips for other staying (none of these were an issue for me but just might be helpful to know in advance!)....stairs up are a bit steep so anyone with mobility issues might have a bit of a challenge. You can hear people in the adjacent rooms (as is often the case in hotels) so earplugs might be useful if a light sleeper. If I am attending the same event in future years, I am likely to look to stay here again which I think says a lot.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were instantly attentive without being overwhelming and we got drinks then shown to our table with menus and plenty of time to decide, which with having 5 kids under 10 old we definitely need! My roast beef was absolutely delicious, my partners nut roast was apparently one of the best she has had! The ice-cream for puds were just as nice! We will definitely be revisiting here even if it is a bit out of the way, but I guess that's what made it so warming and welcoming! I will remember to take a photo next time! A great experience. We went for the Sunday Carvery but the weekday menu also looked very good. Fantastic Carvery with a choice of nice lean beef, pork , or turkey. Excellent choice of vegetables. Unusually, you could have any two meats at no extra charge. Can never understand why some charge more for this . I had beef and pork, my sister had turkey. All the meat was very tender and full of flavour as was the veg. Excellent service. A nice lady carried my sister's meal to our table and a second drink arrived within minutes of ordering. A very big selection of desserts. We were spoilt for choice. We both had the Eton Mess. Superb. Incidentally, the dessert menu is not on the website, only one for a range of ice-creams. Anyone looking at the website would think that was all that was available. Couldn't fault in any way.

Went back for the Wednesday carvery but this time carved not by the chef but the owner (?). Far less meat and although the same amount of vegetables was the same I still had a third left after eking out the meat. barely 2/5. If we had gone on Wednesday first we would not have gone back.

Following the funeral service of my wife's Mother, we pre-arranged with the Landlord Eric Norman, given the latest Covid regulations, to have 4/5 tables set up with the required distancing. This worked perfectly. Some had the carvery, some had meals from the daily menu, and the few children we had also had their requested meals. The food was absolutely top class, and the personal service given by Chantelle and Emily was first class. Given the circumstances for our family gathering, Eric and staff handled the situation with the utmost respect for which we were all so thankful.

Stayed here overnight before attending a Land Rover event the following day. As an older woman travelling alone I was made very welcome by Caroline & Eric on arrival. Enjoyed an excellent supper and great "full English" the following morning that set me up for my day. Room was very comfortable, so wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Disappointing snacks could not be served outside. Were not made to feel welcome because we had our children with us.

Staff, uninviting. Food, paltry. Atmosphere, cold. From the get go my friends and I felt unwelcome, once we sat down to eat the pork roast, there was a measly amount of meat. Limited beer selection from a standard bar. Not going back in a hurry.

Honking! Bar manager was an absolutely shocking bloke, consistently unwelcoming and border-line combative throughout. Every request was too much. Food was genuinely laughable, roast dinner was one step up from hospital food. Embarrassing. The “vibe” in the dining room was that of a Ukrainian bus station cafe. Staff, including the manager, then proceeded to turn the bar into their personal hangout. I couldn’t help but feel as if we were imposing! Poundland Pub open to keep the staff busy rather than provide service to customers! Spent the whole way home laughing. Highly recommend if you’re in need of a pick me up.

The Rest and B is a brilliant local pub which works very hard to maintain a high standard of food and service and is exactly what a traditional rural pub should offer. The food is exceptionally generous in the size of the servings and I have never yet been able to finish the classic, comforting food that is regularly on offer. My partner and I visit regularly and are only too aware of the pressure that the hospitality industry is labouring under with coronavirus and we are impressed with the effort put in by the management to keep this Exmoor gem up and running for visitors as well as loyal locals.

We ate here a few times. Eric the owner was very friendly as were the staff, food was decent pub food. It had only just re-opened after lockdown and the guys did a great job.

This pub has the best of both worlds, it's a great local watering hole and is equally as friendly and welcoming in to guests who are staying in its rooms. It's a family run free house serving local beer and fine food.I visited just after Covid lockdown and they were well set up for sanitisation and social distancing. The team all work really hard to make your stay and your meals as pleasant an experience as possible, it was a truly lovely stay away.

We stopped in here with our son and dog on Sunday for a carvery. The staff were really nice and we were put in the restaurant area in the skittle alley as we had a dog. At around 1.30 two members of staff came in and started putting the cutlery and glasses from the made up tables away, this was ok but distracted my son who stopped eating. We were still eating when the staff then started putting the tables and chairs around us away. I couldn’t believe it, I’ve never felt so awkward and unwelcome in my life we were still eating and it wasn’t late. We weren’t offered deserts and my husband went to take my son to have a change and this point I thought they were going to take my chair away. So I just got the dog and went into the bar area, i felt so awkward. The food was good and the staff at the bar were friendly, but it ruined the whole atmosphere for us.

I was meeting a friend for coffee and a snack. I knew of the Snowdrop Valley event in a few weeks and wanted to check it out. My dog was welcome in the bar, and there was a warm fire. We sat on a lovely comfortable sofa and were offered the carvery, but weren't very hungry. We had sandwiches. Mine was brie and cranberry in lovely fresh brown bread and he had tuna mayonnaise. We felt welcome and comfortable and enjoyed our visit. I shall go again.

Lovely pub with a warm welcome, friendly atmosphere and excellent food (and you can even stay there!) Having had a good experience at the Notley Arms several years ago, we arranged to have Sunday lunch here with family and friends. We weren't disappointed! There's a lot to be said for a place with a homely atmosphere and a warm welcome on arrival - and that's what this gem of a pub / restaurant offers. Simon and the team were friendly and helpful (even a bit cheeky at times, but all meant kindly). The food choice, speed of service, quantity and quality were all outstanding. We all had a lovely experience and would definitely return. In fact, they even have rooms - so they're now on our list of possible places to stay when in the area.
