The Plough Inn in East Staffordshire

We wish we had a place like this nearer to us! We thoroughly enjoyed the food, and had such lovely service. Highly recommend!

We visited here with 10 adults and 5 children for Sunday lunch. The food was perfect, the service was perfect. We were in a side room on our own which meant we could all have a relaxing lunch not worrying about the children (or adults) being noisy. This is such a nice clean atmospheric pub we will all definitely be back.

Lovely English pub with a great feeling. Spotless bathrooms and quaint setup for drinking or dining. Haven't tried the food, but the service is exemplary.

We all had an enjoyable meal on Friday. Great staff, good atmosphere, good prices. I had meat bites (various flavour marinades to choose from) with loaded chips (tomato and onion... there were other alternatives. Really tasty and very good value.

We had a very warm welcome by the landlord and a friendly pup. There is a small menu but what you get is very much worth the wait. The food was fantastic good portion sizes and the prices were not expensive at all. All food is locally sourced. It’s a proper local pub for local people no blaring tv’s or slot machines just perfect.

A really pleasant pub . The barmen were pleasant and attentive, though a smile wouldn't go amiss . A place of character and charm and some parking . The meal was good, simple fair , reasonably priced. Worth going to .

We booked the Plough Inn months before attending and chased for the menu by phone and email. Our table was booked for 7.45 and received an email from Matt at 5.45 stating they weren't able to accommodate us. Unfortunately, due to us travelling we didn't see the email until we were at the pub. On arrival at the pub, two lovely ladies and one very helpful local called Charlie helped to book another pub meal and taxi's. The manager Matt was nowhere to be seen! Shame on Matt, very unprofessional. Big thank you to Charlie and Ange at the Butchers Arms, Bramhall.

Amazing food, best food I’ve had for a long time. Steak sandwich was to die for. Staff are so friendly and food sensational !!! Kids games and colouring is a bonus. Will definitely come again.

We had a very warm welcome very polite young man behind the bar. We had a lady in a wheelchair which they helped us get down the step. This is what I call an old school pub warm welcoming and cozy. A lovely fire lit at the top. Games for the children to play with. Nothing was to much trouble. Not to mention the lovely locals which were also welcoming. Some pubs you go to you can tell the locals and they make you not feel welcome. We'll not this one. I could not fault it. All I can say don't judge a book by it's cover you might just be pleasantly surprised. Great job owners and staff you make it a great pub

Food was nice, finally some who can cook chips. Portions slightly small. Staff extremely welcoming Very dog friendly.

My partner and I just moved to the area. Having come from a miserable part of the UK (the south), Uttoxeter and its friendly people won us over. This being our local pub (very very local), we decided to pop in over the Christmas period to give it a go. The father and son working the bar were friendly and there was a real sense of "local community" among the patrons. The meals we had were very good. This pub doesn't try to go overboard in offering fancy cuisine, instead what you get is comfort food, done right. The warm fire and traditional feel is what we wanted, and during our January visit we got to stroke dogs and speak with welcoming local people. I moved up here to find "community" - this pub helped confirm I made the right move.

Very disappointed in our visit which was a family get together during the Christmas period. We weren’t from the area so had no knowledge of the pub prior to our visit. We visited for Sunday lunch and were given a list of food which wasn’t available - including Yorkshire puddings with the beef Sunday roast! Beef was the only choice of roast. The meal itself was disappointing. Vegetarian choice was limited. No choice of coffee and no decaffeinated. Worst cup of coffee we have ever had - strong and bitter. Service slow and unprofessional. We seemed to be the only ones dining which speaks for itself.

We came here as a Christmas meeting point with relatives (8 of us) from a range of locations. The staff made us feel very welcome. They were friendly and accommodating and didn't rush us in any way. The food was reasonable and lovely. We would meet again here without hesitation

We came for food last night. We chose this place because we wanted nice food but a comfortable environment. The plough inn didn't disappoint. The service was spot on the staff couldn't do enough for you. Will definitely return.

No welcome on arrival. Had to go out our way to find someone to say we had arrived. Service was slow all night, we ended up going to the bar for more drinks as if we waited at the table we'd never have got any. Food was poor to mediocre at best. Such a shame as it's an attractive little pub, but sadly we won't be going back anytime soon.

A traditional pub - have not used it for food since the covid lockdown but the menu looks simple but varied. A good range of beer and lager available. Decent crack and banter from the locals. Pub has a beer garden and car park. Gents toilets are "rustic" and require an upgrade.

There are less and less pubs like this. Not a chain pub and no claim to be a gastro-pub. Just freshly cooked food from local ingredients. Good beer prices with a range of lagers and cask beers. Dog friendly.

Friendly & welcoming, can recommend chicken burger with homemade coleslaw super tasty, very dog friendly.

My wife and I dropped in for lunch and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent aperitifs, pint of pedigree for me and Sauvignon Blanc (exceptional) for my wife. Classic burger for me and sirloin for my wife superbly cooked. This was our first visit and we will definitely go here again.

Came here as a family of 5 after a family day out ahead of our 4 hour journey home. Although outside doesn’t look pleasing, the service and food was delicious.

Stopped in on our way back from alton towers and was not dissapointed. Food was all fresh and some of the best I've ever eaten. The staff were all friendly and service was great, thankyou to Mandy who served us. There was a bit of a long wait for food but for fresh food that did not bother us at all. Would defiantly return and reccomend.

what used to be a lovely pub/eating house, is now a run down i would even say dirty place as soon as you walk in it looks dull and dindgey there was no atmosphere ,the bar staff were friendly but the chef of sorts was really rude to myself, the garden furniture is worn out and potentially dangerous its an absolute shame we will not be going again

The best pub! Great Real ale, great food and friendly, welcoming staff and locals. Also very dog friendly. Really special place if you like an honest ale House, that's well run and loves what it does! Will be coming back!

Went in on the off chance. What a lovely find. We had Sunday dinner which was absolutely the best I've had in a very long time. Gravy is a must. If ever your around this area go in and try there Sunday Roast. Staff are so very friendly too. Will definitely go there again

WHAT A FIND! In short - Friendly, relaxed local pub with great staff and beer. In long - My car broke down outside this pub on a Sunday evening. Couldn't have happened in a better location - two lads working behind the bar were incredible helpful and friendly. I ended up waiting four hours for the AA - in that time I could see this is a great local pub with a lovely set of regular customers. Treated myself to a pint whilst I waited, delighted to see three traditional cask ales on, served in immaculate condition. Would gladly have had more than one if I wasn't driving home, thankfully they've got a good selection of non-alcoholic options too. Pub is clean and tidy, great atmosphere, bags of character and charm. I don't usually post reviews, but pubs like this are few and far between these days and hidden gems deserve to be shouted about.

If you like a traditional English pub with wonderful homemade food,The plough is the one.. No1 pedi.

As far as the pub itself - I cannot comment. As I have never been. However a family member has a crisis with a car today and had to pull into their carpark as an emergency. The manager was very lovely and understanding, allowing us to leave the car for as long as we needed. It took us the extra stress and pressure of the situation off of us. We couldn't be more thankful.

A great independent pub, nice interior, excellent staff, great food. Sadly no decent coffee the only blemish,🥲 oh and I have never ever understood the fad for serving food on boards instead of on a PLATE -especially to children. Grrrr

We had a lovely meal at the Plough Inn. Both the food and the service was excellent. We could not fault it. The menu had a very good choice of different dishes and was a reasonable price. I would highly recommend having a meal there. I shall definitely be going back.

Christmas meal a complete disaster from start to finish, I have emailed the manager but had no response, happy to take our money (£25.95 for 3 courses of non descript cold food) very disappointed

Visited with family on Tuesday as many of the restaurants in town were closed. The pub was almost empty apart of few locals. We ordered burgers, Mac’n’cheese and kids portion of f&c. What a nice surprise. Food was tasty, good size portions, lovely waitress. There is a small car park on the side of building.

Called in last week for a drink and lunch should have known as only myself and wife the only customers iorderedthelegend steak and my wife a rib eye steak meal well when it came my wife’s steak was brilliant mine looked like they had cut a bit off the wife’s there was only 6 small 1/2 inch pieces not slices of steak on garlic bread the other slice had a few more 1/2 a basket of chips and a few dry leaves as salad there wasn’t even any onions trying to hide the steak DO notBelieve the old photos as the bit of steak they cut off the wife’s was the mainly grisselle as I could not chew it I would have complained but the wife was enjoying her so she should she had a steak mine at first I thought was a joke Swerve this place to eat the steak sandwich is a legend because your one of the lucky ones if you actually get sliced steak and onions as advertised will never eat here again and you must be a mug if you do go elsewhere.

This is a great place, an old inn I think, full of character, great people run it , staff are friendly, inside and outside are equally attractive to the concerning beer drinkers, last pub on the A518 until Weston , highly recommended.

Lovely homely atmosphere and was made very welcome

Visited for first time for an evening drink excellent range of beer and drinks. Great atmosphere excellent service pleasant happy staff. Although we didn’t eat the food we saw looked great will definitely go back for both a drink and meal soon.

Recently moved to the area. As a previous landlady of public houses. Looked for a local i could frequent on my own. Although friendly greet, that is where it ended. Bar staff not willing to chat. Prices too steep for area. I would not have felt comfortable on my own.

Came to The Plough after a long day at Alton towers, food was amazing super tasty, hats off the the chef, happy waitress and the gent being the bar was fab. Would be a weekly visit if only we was closer. Thankyou ☺️

We dropped in to the pub for some food on our way home from a family day out. Whilst the menu selection was not extensive we still felt spoilt for choice (including vegetarian options) and a kids menu was also available. The service was excellent, and the wait for the freshly cooked food was well worth it – very tasty and well portioned. Overall, whilst the pub is a little rough around the edges, I would happily stop here again for some food.

Very friendly and welcoming. I've driven past this pub for years and never been in until now, I bet I'm not the only one! The steak sarnie was delicious, the steak was like butter!

We booked this place for a birthday meal as we had never been hear before. As there was 12 of us they asked for a pre order ith wasn't a problem. Upon entering we were greeted by a very welcoming and friendly member of staff who was behind the bar we all ordered are drinks as was told where are table was so we went and sat down. All the food was great good portion size the only small complaint was the timing off the food as the side orders came out for the Sundays roasts then about 5 mins later the roasts came out. Overall very good

Had a very lovely meal here. The staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic. It's dog friendly and I was able to get in and around in my wheelchair. If I could ask for one thing it would be a drop down bar in the disabled loo. I'll definitely go again though, without hesitation

A couple of months ago or so my car broke down in Uttoxeter and I managed to get it to this pub's car park. Sitting in the car was very cold while waiting for breakdown cover so I ventured into the pub to ask if I could wait inside. I was immediately made a of tea (free no less) to warm up and then spent the next two hours having a good old laugh with the brilliant staff members there. Want to go again when I get chance and check out the food properly. Thanks to Kim and the rest of staff for helping out a guy in need and cheering him up :)

It's a shame I'm not giving 5 stars as we couldn't fault the food or the service. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, great portions. However our visit was ruined by the atmosphere. We had a 2 year old and 7 year old with us so we booked to eat at 5.30pm. However, when sat down we were surrounded by drunk people, loud swearing. Twice whilst I was eating someone bumped into my chair. I understand its a pub. However, it felt like a night out at 11pm surrounded by people who were on a night out. It was 5.30pm! Unfortunately we will not return as a family as its not appropriate with young children which is unfortunate as the food and service was excellent.

Warm welcome from Matt on our arrival. There was a Very friendly atmosphere in this pub, Dog friendly too. We had booked a table and was offered our table straight away. The staff are very attentive here. I ordered fish n chips which was very nice, my partner ordered Game stew, I don’t eat meat but he did say quote “ best game stew he’d ever had” he did swap the mash for chips. So to sum up, we will be coming here more often it’s nice to be amongst friendly people in a very welcoming pub. Food menu is limited, for vegetarians/vegans, but they now have a new chef, I’ve been told by the chef he’s going to be doing “specials” which will include more fish dishes. Thank you Simon and Matt.

Arrived with a warm welcome by staff members and were shown to a table booked for 6 people at 7 pm. Good variety of alcohol on offer with many different options of beer on selection. Food was generous in portion sizes, was cooked freshly and tasted great. Service was slightly slow however but this is due to the pub being incredibly busy. Dog friendly and lively atmosphere would reccomend to others

Nice and well run place. Very well organized and maintained. It offers wide variety of drinks and food options. One of my favourite is chips and cheese. The staff is very supportive and will make you feel like a family.

Visited with group of friends, we all ordered a variety of different meals and all came out together, hot and freshly cooked. Service was efficient and friendly but unobtrusive. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and as an extra bonus even our dog was made welcome. Thanks to all the staff at The Plough!

Brilliant Pub, nice friendly staff and great pints on draught.

Greeted with a smile. Ordered our meals, unfortunately the vegetables were so very salty losing the taste of the vegetables. We mentioned this after being asked 'how was our meal', we were told that our comment would be passed to the chef. No apology at all, so we decided that we would not be having a desert or another drink or returning.

Great food and drink and always very friendly helpful staff. Whats not to like 👍🍻

Food ok, we heard good things about the food so we went for Sunday lunch. It was ok, could have done with more veg on our roast dinner . Didn't live up to the hype but still a satisfactory meal. Staff friendly and smiley, quite a pleasent armoaphere and clearly lots of locals use the pub. Child friendly with children of all ages attending.

Awful, 2 hour wait for food, no apology, food terrible. Must have been taken over as I went here 4 months ago and was brilliant. Sorry I did get an apology of a young girl behind the bar who was embarrassed. Aug 10th I visited. Previously in May I came twice and thoroughly enjoyed it with family.

Good value for money but good quality is average. No need to book, staff were happy and helpful but cleanliness was lacking slightly. More of a drinkers pub than one to go to for dinner.

Excellent don't know why we've never been in before. Had the legendary steak sandwich, it was lovely. And Amanda the bar maid was made us feel very welcome. Will be making a return visit.

The absolute Best!! Why bother going anywhere else. Been today for the first time and it certainly will not be the last time! What a little Gem of a place. Amanda was a 5 *. Steak Sandwich 5 * and the Ultimate Fishfinger Buttie gets a perfect 10 from me. Look forward to returning very soon to what is now My new favourite place to go.

This quaint local pub was one of the best places I have been. Service was fantastic, food incredible. I am a local and had only been here years ago, I will be returning and regularly with this standard.
