Mario's in East Staffordshire

When on holiday in the area recently, we thankfully discovered this fabulous restaurant which sadly at present is only open for takeaway. We ordered a takeaway on two occasions, both times the service and food was excellent. We were given a collection time, the food was ready on time, was great value but more importantly was delicious with great portions. We will definitely visit again when in the area.

It was my birthday on the weekend and we decided to celebrate, in lockdown, with a take away from Mario's Cafe. It was a great decision!As always, the food was incredible, what a great way to have a lovely meal, even in lockdownby the way their lockdown safety measures are superb.

Wow, the food is incredible. Melt in your mouth magic.The cheesy garlic bread is stunningly good.We also had the beef medallions, which comes with roast potatoes, carrots and broccoli and afterwards the profrierolls for pudding are heavenly.....They provide everything in great lockdown Takeaway boxes.Go to the website to see the booking/collecting system. Perfect timing on collection meal was excellent authentic Italian food at its best in small market town.

Restricted to six by the government we celebrated a 60th Birthday takeaway style with delicious mains, sides, and desserts. Generous portions and all to the high standard we have experience when we could dine in the restaurant.

The service was excellent, and the food was delicious, piping hot, will certainly go there again, would highly recommend it.

We were saddened when, like so many other places, Mario's closed their doors when the government ordered restaurants to stop selling. Well we were delighted they are now back doing takeaway meals Thursday through Saturday evenings. the deal is you phone between 12 and 2 pm the day before to book your meal and slot for the following day and then choose a timeslot for collection.We had bruschettas with 'Tagliatelle a la Chef' and 'Polpette', two of each and the kids also had gelato and sorbet for dessert. Portions were as generous as in the restaurant and the service, when we came to collect, was slick and professional but keeping the personal touch that we value when we have eaten in. The food was delicious too.

This place is such a lovely little gem. The food we had was beautiful and the staff were all so very friendly. We've recommended family to come and try here as we know they'll love it just as much as we did. We can't wait to come back!

We had lovely meals, friendly service and will definitely go again. Highly recommended. We each chose different options and everyone was pleased. The house wine came in litre bottles and at £15 was great value. A great find!

We drove past this evening following a cinema visit with our teenage son. My husband who has an excellent eye for a great little place to eat had me drive around the block so we could check it out again. We decided we liked the look of it, parked and went in. My husband wasn’t wrong. Great little place with a great atmosphere and really lovely, authentic food from a small but perfectly formed menu. Friendly service too. We’ll definitely return.

We have driven past Mario's many times without realising it was a cosy little Italian.Having spotted a post by friend on Facebook we decided to give it a try. We booked (Friday night) and it was a good job we did as it was full.Food clearly freshly cooked was delicious. There was a wide range of food including pastas and meat dishes plus specials. Our only complaint (if you can call it that) was portions were too big!Staff were friendly, happy and smiley and looked after us well.Cost for 4 of us including starters, mains, w x desserts and a number of alcoholic drinks was £129...overall pretty good value.We will be back soon as there are plenty of different dishes we want to try.

Ok, the service is great and the food is superb. But most important in any good Italian restaurant? conversation and laughter! A very special place

A night out with my lovely lady. The surroundings are great, the service was good from all the staff and, most importantly, the food was excellent. We both had different options and all were highly recommended.Having lived in Italy for a while I can vouch that this is a very Italian menu with just a few accomodations for British customers - great.Definitely worth a visit! We'll certainly be going again.

Friday night in Uttoxeter chucking down with rain. Very welcoming comfortable Italian place Mario’s. We both had starters and mains all excellent. Recommend the meatballs starter. Lost a star as we thought it was bit expensive. We will be back as food so good.

It was suggested as a meeting place by friends. My partner and I had never tried it before as the outside doesn't look very appealing.However, we were pleasantly surprised..The service was excellent and the food was superb.My only small criticism is the acoustics. Our evening was shared by a group of a dozen women elsewhere in the restaurant, and it was sometimes difficult to hold a comfortable conversation in our foursome.A tad pricey with wine etc, but as I said, the food was lovely.

We were greeted with a warm welcome on arrival. Mario's has nice decor, the food is lovely, the girls waiting on were polite.we'll be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu

Firstly the service was excellent and the staff were very friendly! Restaurant was good for the space they had available. I had the spaghetti Bolognese which was a little bland but generally nice. My partner had a gluten free option which she loved. Would definitely recommend and revisit.

Visited for a night out with friends, all of us had different dishes and all were lovey and beautifully presented. Its definitely well worth a visit. Service friendly with no rush, cant recommend this place enough.

We had been travelling for 5 hours as staying in Uttoxeter for the night. We arrived at around 8.45pm and walked past Mario's. As it was late we checked if they were still serving and the kind lady said they finished at 9pm but would be happy to accommodate the 2 of us.

Lovely food and friendly staff. Many gluten free and vegetarian options too. we visited on a Friday evening.

A genuinely lovely place! Food was delicious and service was prompt (great when you have a hungry 3 year old) staff were so friendly & couldn’t do enough for us! We are from the North East but staying in the area as we are visiting Alton Towers. It is also our daughters 13th Birthday so we wanted somewhere to have a nice birthday meal. Finally got round to trying Marios for a friends birthday and it did not disappoint. Easy booking, friendly staff, intimate and cosy atmosphere. Good value, home cooked food. Much better than any chain Italian restaurant.

This was our 1st visit to Mario's and we would certainly come again. A family run business, they definitely know what they're doing. Friendly and attentive and the food was excellent and not too pricey. We didn' t have to wait too long for food as it was all freshly prepared to order.

On three occasions I have visited this establishment 'hidden' down Balance Street.

I had a starter of the meatballs and all i can say is wow. The sauce is indescribable. the best meatballs ever. Had the spaghetti for a main which was alright, my sister had a lasagna which looked perfect. Altogether it was a great night, thank you!

We booked but arrived almost an hour early, they were very accommodating and although warning us our order maybe delayed we were so comfortable we didn’t notice any delay. The food was superb and was matched the service. Would highly recommend booking this restaurant and hope to visit again

We reviewed this restaurant 4 years ago and it is still as good if not better than when it first opened.9 Adults and 3 2 year olds went for a birthday meal they made us feel welcome and the food was as usual excellent.The staff are always very helpful and nothing is to much trouble..Well done.Also you must try the ice cream very Italian yum.

Visited for the first time and took 8 friends along (not a problem). Chef is Italian and it showed in buckets, the food was superb, plentiful and tasty my taste buds did somersaults of delight. Everyone loved their meals and the evening (we were a bit loud but that’s happens in a large group) the service was excellent and the GelTo was divine.

We ate with friends on Saturday night, we had booked an early table, so glad we did. This is an unassuming place at first glance, but the menu promised so much, and it certainly delivered. Very high quality, with a home cooked feel, and no pretentious 3ft long pepper mills. No hesitation in recommending this place

This is not our first visit to Mario's but I have not done a review for a few years. We visited recently with a couple of friends and we all had an excellent meal. The menu is great, not so big you can not decide but not so small you can not find anything you like. All four of us had three courses and left planning our next visit.

Real gem of a place fantastic food, the best place to eat in Uttoxeter. Very good service and good portions. Will be visiting again soon

I've reviewed Mario's a few times before and do so again because the standards remain consistently high and this is one of the two or three decent eating places here and alternatives to these are generally part of large chains.

A lovely way to spend an evening with family. Friendly attentive service. Great food and reasonably priced,very good wine. One of the best meals we have had in a long time.

This is by far the best Italian restaurant I know, with friendly staff, delicious food and attentive service, as well as a light, airy yet cosy feel. Never had anything but a super dining experience there, but very disappointed that Mario's is no longer opening at lunchtimes.

Having visited Uttoxeter frequently over the last few years I regret not having found this little gem earlier. The service was friendly and quick. The food was great and the bill lower than I expected considering what I ate. Next time in Uttoxeter it's Mario's again for me.

Me and my family visited Mario’s for a 3 course evening meal. The only minor drawback was the rather small interior. Yet, the food was excellent. Pasta and sauces really tasty, which was matched by the great portion size. Great value for money, and good service. Recommend booking to avoid disappointment, and I also recommend ordering the Gelato in particular.

We came for a date night and absolutely loved the food and place. We had a 3 course meal with wine and were really happy with the quality and price. The staff and owners were very welcoming and friendly. The seafood pasta was gorgeous! We will definitely be coming back. A new favourite!

Mario's is now an evening only venue having closed the Cafe during the day to concentrate on the excellent evening menu.

Recommended by a friend to try it and so glad we did. We all had something different and everything was fresh, hot and delicious. All the vegetables were cooked just right, the pasta too. What a great evening, fantastic freshly made Italian food, nice wine, great service along with great company made for a great evening. Party size was 10, food was brought out together, we all had different food off the menu. Personally I had Lasagne, delicious but everyone had happy faces so you can’t go wrong with the menus. The Tiramisu was heavenly. Worth booking or ringing so you’re not disappointed. Thank you.

Just returned home from enjoying the very best meal I've enjoyed for ages! Ordered mushrooms followed by steak medallions ....the steak was cooked perfectly , was as tender as you could wish for and very tasty! The sauce was wonderful...vegetables cooked to perfection! We had visited before at lunchtime but this was the first evening visit. Lovely atmosphere, great food and excellent house wine...highly recommended! One of the only places in Uttoxeter I would take any visitors! If you haven't been, you don't know what you're missing!

We sometimes go to Mario's during the day after a bike ride and always get great service. If you are going through Uttoxeter it would make a great cafe stop. The meals in the evening are great, a nice menu with not to much to choice from which is what we like.

I absolutely love this restaurant. Mario's cooking is perfection itself, in fact it is for sure my absolute favourite restaurant and given that I live in North Yorkshire, that says a lot. My wife and I went there yesterday after a visit to the Makers market in town. What a brilliant little restaurant. Food was excellent, a little gem.

Previously, I have only popped in for their delicious ice cream but last week I took two of my teenage grandchildren for lunch. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a delicious authentic pasta lunch. The youngsters chose chicken and bacon tagliatelle, while I had penne with smoked salmon. All were piping hot, plentiful and very tasty and left me knowing that this is a great place to pop into for snacks and lunches. I've heard much praise for the evening meals at Mario's, so that is definitely on my 'to do' list. A great little place.

I've reviewed this restaurant a couple of times before and the standard is always high. Tonight was a family dinner and enjoyed by all. I started with the homemade pate served with toasted bread, salad and chutney and followed this with a seafood salad - prawns, mussels, octopus and calamari which was on the specials board. For desert Mario's Tiramasu and a scoop of hazelnut gelato. Others had a tomato and basil soup or meatballs in tomato sauce to start followed by Pollo Sorpresa x 2 and an Arabiatta. Other deserts included varieties of gelato and sorbet, there are many to choose from.Everyone left happy. It is advisable to book in advance as the restaurant is small, only opens Friday and Saturday for dinner, and like tonight was fully booked.Great staff and the owners Mario and Joanna are friendly and helpful in tweaking the menu to suite your taste.

We went for a family due to recommendation from my step mother who had been before, we were accompanied by my brother and sister in law, step mum and our 10 year old son. The food was very good and well presented, note that the menu is limited, booking is recommended as this is a very small restaurant only open at weekend for dinner.

This was our first Friday evening visit, and we shall be back. For starters we each had a tasty side order of bruschetta, olive oil and tomatoes, and then I enjoyed the tagliatelle alla chef, while my wife equally enjoyed the beef medallions. It was all very attractively presented, service was friendly and prompt. The decor is non- fussy and spotless. We look forward to our next visit.

The milkshakes are to die for absolutely mouth watering you will want more than one if only to try another flavour.

Went for lunch after reading good reviews. The restaurant was nearly empty. Ordered some pasta which was beautiful, but the paninis and baguettes were bland and ordinary. Tasty, but nothing special. The lady serving us spent most of the time chatting and ignored us completely which was a shame. We had to call each time we needed something. Ok for a quick lunch, but not over impressed.

Myself and hubby popped in for lunch and the food was just the best. It was cooked to perfection and the taste of the sauce on the lasagne was the best i have ever had. Hubby had the squid and it was slightly over cooked but Mario was so good to explain that this is how most folk like it - our tip is talk to him and tell him you love it how it should be cooked as that way he can do it justice for you! The sauce again was to die for! Love this little place and i look forward to going again within the next couple of weeks :)

I've been to Marios quite a few times, for lunch and for dinner. It never disappoints! There is always a warm welcome and the staff are very attentive. It's a lovely little cafe during the day and just perfect for a nice civilised lunch and it turns into a very cosy, intimate restaurant in the evening. You never feel rushed and the Italian Profiteroles are to die for. I own a local Bed & Breakfast and always recommend Marios to my guests. I only wish they were open every night of the week!

Was visiting Uttoxeter for the day and popped into Mario's for a spot of lunch. Excellent food, lovely service and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

I like Italian, especially gelato so realising Mario's was so near I thought to try it. A colleague eats there often....We went for lunch today and we were not disappointed!Everything was fresh and we didn't wait for very long....Booked for lunch for my birthday....

My daughter and I dropped in here as she was wanting to be fed. She had her favourite, Spag bol and loved it.

Having recently been to Rome and like always struggling for somewhere to eat in town. I thought to myself I should try Mario's as I had driven past a fair few times and thought I wonder what that's like?. So in I went and on entry it is nice and bright with a typical cafe feel about it. The service was very pleasant as I was asked what I would like. I will not lie i was hoping for Carbonara but settled on Lasagne(as Carbonara was not on the menu). This was very nice and tasty and better than the frozen pre done ones you would get in a pub. The Garlic bread was tasty as well and come in handy for moping up my sauce. Having had a pleasant meal I decided to try the Gelato. I was straight away transported back to the Trevi fountain where I had last had Gelato. Very tasty and very good! All in all a nice little cafe and somewhere in the sparse desert that is good places to eat in uttoxeter a stand out gem. Thank u for a good meal, lovely Gelato, a nice family feel to the service and a very nice lunch time experience.

Have passed this little cafe many times in the car but have never popped in before. Lunch today was superb! Don't be put off by the decor which seems just a little too bright and brittle...the food and service were fantastic! Judging by the food served to us quality is the chef's priority, rather than an over ambitious amount of choice. Felt on holiday in sunnier climes for a blissful couple of hours. Will certainly be back.

We booked a table for 4 for New Year's Eve at Mario's, and so glad we did. Everything was excellent, the food was delicious, the service was brilliant and the staff were all lovely. We're definitely going back for more - this is the best place to eat in Uttoxeter by a country mile - well done to Mario and his team.

Open since October 2015 and a friend recently told me about the evening restaurant. Mario's is opposite Waitrose and looks like a cafe rather than a restaurant. Looks like it has approximately 30 covers. Shiny cutlery, intricately folded napkins and sparkly glasses noticed on arrival. Evening meals on Fridays and Saturdays for grown ups who appreciate details. Food was delicious, especially the pate starter and salmon main course. Italian house wine was very satisfactory. Total cost for 3 courses and wine for a couple was £65. At last, a good restaurant in Uttoxeter where I do not have to sit in a bar to eat. Would I return? Definitely.

It is always a joy to take someone new to a restaurant or other venue or place which you love and tonight we took our Australian visitor to Mario's. She, and we, loved it. The pollpette (meatballs) and the pate which we had for starters we excellent and mains were sublime. An Arabiatta, 2 x chicken sorpresa and one taglaitelli with a tomato and cream sauce. Shared a portion of Mario's home made tiramasu and some of his excellent profitteroles with an Italian twist, all chased by super delicious and smooth gelato.We all loved it.

Both my wife and I have seen the transformation of this little gem since it's premises was our old Chinese take away. I would recommend you book because space is a premium at night. 20 covers. 2 families went for the evening and having not been before was very impressed with the food, service and ice cream. Restaurant itself is very bright with the lights and could be toned down a bit but great food. Had the lamb and photo attached. Good portion and good veg for sides. Well recommended for all.

Went here for our 10yr wedding anniversary meal, what a fantastic place. The monk fish was cooked to perfection, the beef medallions were exquisite.We started with tagliatelle and ricotta and spinach pancakes, which were incredible, and melted in the mouth.The puddings we took photos of, see attached.India, the waitress couldn't have done enough for us and the owners were outstandingly welcoming.Highly Highly Highly recommend this place.We plan to go again and again until we have tried all the dishes on the menu.

Being coeliac I often find I cannot eat the fantastic pasta dishes but at Marios I am catered for as they serve gluten free penne and most of the sauces are gluten free and delicious. The staff are very professional and friendly and the restaurant is spotless. Marios serves the best gelato, if you close your eyes you could be in Italy. An added bonus is that they also open on a Friday and Saturday evening - booking is usually required. Highly recommended.

We were on a family trip to Alton Towers and chose this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and had good reviews on trip advisor.We phoned just before going to check if they had space and they had a table all ready for us when we got there.The staff were lovely and very helpful.The food was delicious and it was good having the choice of starter size portions of the pasta dishes as well as kid size portions. The only let down on the food for us was the chips. Everything else was really tasty but we felt the chips were quite bland. Maybe just our taste though. However we only ordered one portion between us all as a little extra so wasn't a big issue. It certainly wouldn't put me off going back and the rosemary potatoes we saw other tables getting looked lovely.The ice cream was lovely as well.So overall, a lovely meal with very friendly staff!

We have eaten here a few times, either for a light lunch or a very hard to get evening meal due to the tables being in high demand. The food is excellent and the service is second to none. My wife and I certainly recommend Mario's any time.

Eaten here lots of times, place is lovely, food is fantastic cooked from fresh and the staff are friendly and engaging. Owners always make the effort to talk to everyone too which in this day and age is a breath of fresh air!

Everything about Mario's is excellent...food, service, staff and the atmosphere. It's an authentic Italian experience and the staff couldn't be friendlier. I would recommend it every time and it makes a refreshing alternative to all the curry houses in the town. The pasta is my personal favourite.

This is an excellent local cafe and they have been closed since 4th September for holidays so how the "poor" review on this site could have been written while the place was closed is beyond me. Some nasty people like to cause trouble and I hope the review is removed. Food and service are always excellent here and I am looking forward to them re-opening after their well deserved holiday.

Mario, Jo and staff do a wonderful job serving there customers with the most delicious Italian food and gelato! I love coming here for a sweet treat when passing through Uttoxeter! Service is great and staff are very attentive. The cafe is always fresh, clean and has a great atmosphere. Highly recommend to anyone who's after authentic Italian!

I have been to Marios many of times with family and friends and the service and food is outstanding! I always look forward to my next visit.

After spending a day at Alton Towers we were staying in the BB next door and thought as a group of 6 we would find it difficult to grab some dinner. So when we saw Mario's and looked at the menu and we thought we would give it a go. They moved some bits around to seat us and were super friendly. First of all they do all their mains as starters which made a lot of us happy. We had pretty much between us everything of the menu. We were informed that as everything is fresh there might be a wait but in no time at all we were all tucking into some amazing food. Personally i think their lasagna is actually the best i've had in the UK and they do a mushroom starter which we all fought over. The portions were on point and their wine selection house wine is a personal favorite of ours and is some quality for a house wine. Then we all made room for some desserts and we all devoured a variety of their amazing gelato! Without doubt we will travel the 3 hours from London just to come here for dinner. This is a must go place! Where ever you are going, plan this in! they will not disappoint!
