Visited here as a group of 4 today and the food was appalling. Cold chips, burned cheesy chips (yes that takes some achieving). We have had some poor food in our travels but this pretty much wins sadly. You can’t ruin a pizza can you?? Somehow it was managed here. Lots of left over food and one ‘duck’ pizza left untouched by a food lover 😞. Even the cucumber on the side salad had seen better days. Sadly we won’t return which is a shame as caravan owners that are very local to this pub.

Fortunately, the petrol station opposite sells sandwiches. Dry frozen Yorkshire pudding. Everything tastes of old oil from the fryers. Absolutely diabolical. The table next to us sent theirs back too. The pub is dirty, we had to clean the table on arrival. Better quality at a burger van.

The Plough Inn was a disappointment. On way to Scarborough out on its own. It was a very quite time of day about 3:30pm on a Thursday. Lots of staff one good thing but not very friendly. Upon walking in no hello, welcome or can we help nothing. I had to go and ask what the routine was. We sat in child area as we had an Autistic teenager with us. Music very loud. The area tables were clean but floor wasn't very good. We ordered this was good easy and gentleman was helpful. The food arrived. Well.... We were hungry otherwise on hindsight we should have sent back. Coleslaw like I've never seen lots of carrot and large chuncks of red cabbage awful.. Chicken Tikka massive chunks of chicken not very warm but not cold but tastless. Cheap grated yellow cheese a very large potato and lots yes lots of side salad. Steak n ale pie. Lots n lots of chips. Pie tastless bland big with lots of gravy onto of crust of pie swimming in it....... Burger again with loads of chips very dry burgers but two, in brioche bun also dry again lots of salad cut in big chuncks and leaves. It feels like a time forgot type of place from 70's maybe that's what they are going for. Wouldn't go again and Wouldn't recommend.

The breakfast was unfortunately bad quality & greasy. There was no bacon & instead fatty pork from the freezer. No hash browns. They were potato croquettes which they tried to pass as hash browns. The staff were friendly & that was fine. The doors were filthy with finger prints all over it. Sorry. Just the experience we had.

We visited on Saturday afternoon. It was very busy, and the screens behind bar said 45 mins waiting time for food. A member of staff (manager/owner?) found a table for us and warned me that the outside play equipment was wet (it had been raining), but boys still went out to play. The atmosphere inside was not to our liking. The screens had football, then a music channel but it didn't seem like anyone was taking any notice of what was actually on, so mainly served to make the place noisier. The waiting time from ordering food wasn't as long as anticipated - by the time we ordered the wait was said to be an hour, but it wasn't anywhere near that. The food was ok. The 5" childs pizza looked like something you would pick up in the supermarket. The childs chicken tikka was ok, but very runny. The steak and ale pie was lovely, the mash was silky smooth but the meal was let down by the minuscule portion of peas and over cooked carrots. The half roast chicken was delicious but again let down by the veg.We were disappointed by the children's menu. At 10 and 8 my boys eat much more than sausage, fish fingers and chicken nuggets. Even the 'bigger' range of meals was lack luster. It would be nice to see places who cater to families offering a wider range of choices for children, for instance smaller portions if the roast chicken, smaller burgers, hunters chicken etc. Also, having icecream in character cups is ok for youngsters, but mine said they were babyish and wanted something different. Smaller portions of the pancake stack and other deserts or smaller sundaes would hit the spot better.I'm glad we tried it, but doubt we'll be going back anytime soon.

We came here whilst staying at Blue Dolphin. We first came on a week night. We had steak. It was awful, so dry and tasteless, the grilled tomato certainly hadn’t seen a grill and wasn’t even ripe! The staff hovered around waiting for a table to leave so they could clean it, it wasn’t even busy, and made us feel very uncomfortable. It wasn’t cheap either! However, I had promised the Hubby a carvery so we went back on Sunday. Totally different experience! The staff were friendly and helpful. And the food was really nice. A tad to much pepper on everything for my liking, but still it was good. Nice thick slices of meat and loads of fresh and well cooked vegetables. I’m kinda split on whether I would recommend it, the first meal was really bad, but the carvery was good. It shouldn’t be pot luck on when you go, the food and service should be consistent.

We have eaten here before as a family and throughly enjoyed our meal and the surroundings. There is an amazing play area for the kids and as we have told family members about it we were keen to share this with them. However, since our last visit we have a new family member! A very small well trained pug! This unfortunately was an issue at the plough. There is an area at the rear of the pub which is the only place dogs are allowed, it also doubles as the smoking area. I politely asked at the bar if we could take her in the main garden so we could supervise our children in the play area I was very politely informed that this was not possible. The dog area and kids area are at completely different sides of the pub which means that you are not able to keep an eye on your kids if you visit with a dog. Also you can only eat outside! So I sat with the boys while my hubby and his parents stayed with the dog! Lovely family meal! As we are non smokers I didn't wish to eat my meal or have my children eat in the smoking area we had to leave the dog in the car while we ate and I immediately rushed out to let her back out as soon as I'd finished! Dogs die in hot cars and it was 19c the day we visited, and as the plough is a drive from most places I can only assume most visitors drive here or walk from nearby touring parks. This place is extremely child friendly! Soft play centre etc etc and the staff sympathetic to our issue but it is close to family touring sites and many of us tour with our furry freinds and this visit was completely spoiled for us due to this issue. The food wasnt bad, usual pub fayre but we bolted it as we were not comfortable with the dog in the car and only had 1 drink. Kids disappointed to not be able to play as long as they wanted I'm sure a bit of common sense should prevail as it does in most pubs where dogs are welcomed with open arms! But sadly not here What a shame! But we won't be returning

The food was really nice and freshly made. The only downside was the price of the kids ice creams, although they come in an animal shaped tub they are tiny and at £2.95 each a little over-priced in my opinion.

Drove almost 2.5 hours to come here with my two kids to be greeted by hundreds of flies. Soft play is up a flight of stairs with no lift or help offered. Food was overcooked and rancid. Had to sit swatting flies away every 2 seconds. Was asked by a member of staff if my daughters plate was finished which it was so she took that away with the rest of our meals as I was busy sorting out the babies food I didn't even realise she'd taken it.. When I went to ask where my meal had gone (which cost me £10 on its own) and had one bite of burger out of it... she said ahh I've thrown it away. No apologies or offer of replacement or refund I asked for the manager who came upstairs and told me " you can get your things and your kids and leave. In Front of my 10month old son and 2 year old daughter. Who both left crying and shaken minus there shoes after been there less than an hour.. . I've never been soo shocked. Apauled and disgusted in all my life. There was a number of other families and children who heard his discusting Manor too and one family who were just walking in left as they heard how he rude he was been. visited the plough on monday 20th. We ordered 3 meals- hunters chicken, steak pie and lasagne. The chicken was chewy and hard, the lsagne was dripping in fat and the steak was really chewy in the pie. I had a new born baby with me and I went to change her nappy to find that no toilet checks had been done as the baby changing mat was covered in urine from a previous child. Whilst having our meal a load of flies were hanging around I appreciate this isnt the staffs fault but when we finished it took the staff members just short of an hour to clear our table, but then they only cleared the plates because we moved the plates to another table ourselves to stop the flies hanging around us. A member off staff even walked past to clear a table near us and never asked if we were done or anything such as. When they did clear the plates they never asked if we enjoyed our meals or if anything was wrong when the plates was still full of food. We visit here regularly and have never received such poor service which is more frustrating as the pub had approx. 6 people in with 3 members off staff

It was first rate, food is very sensibly priced, excellent value for money. Dog friendly maybe but not dog and kid friendly together. Whilst ou kids played in the play area we had to sit in the car park to supervise them because there is nowhere to put the two together. Sorry but will not be visiting again anytime soon..

This is a great place in any weather. It has a brilliant beer garden with lots of play equipment. if the weather is bad there is an inside soft play area.

We came with four adults and 6 children. The meals came within a decent amount of time. The adult pizzas were nice but the kids ones were like a deep dish frozen one with cheddar put on top. The upstairs play area closed early. It was just ok, I wouldn’t rush back.

We came here to try out the kids play area. I found the place very small, dirty and over crowded. The noise level was insane and there was no where to sit (im heavily pregnant) the kids enjoyed themselves for around 35 minutes before asking to leave.

Visited while on holiday with my family, had the sunday carvery. The mash was very watery, the carrots were tasteless and the gravy was also too watery. Not at all impressed, the only good thing was the outdoor play area which my child loved.

We called on our way back from a day out in Whitby. Good , large clean place with plenty of staff working . I had a half chicken with vegetables and no chips (I am diabetic and had had enough carbs ) and asked for extra vegetables. This was provided efficiently very nice to get what you asked for. My wife had a lovely salad. We were very happy with both the food and the service . The toilets were clean too. Excellent parking and we got near the building (my wife has mobility issues )

Visited this place whilst staying at Blue Dolphin. This is just off a main slip road in Filey and can't miss it if you use your sat nav.

We visited the Plough for the first time in May last year while on a visit to the area and decided to revisit again this year as we enjoyed our meals so much, we were not disappointed. The food is well presented, prices reasonable, lots of choice. Staff really attentive and friendly. Would not hesitate to visit again when in the area.

Visited twice now whilst on holiday. The Sunday carvery is well cooked and lots of choice great value for money. Also visited mid week for evening meal. Generous portion size, hot, tasty and well presented. I'm not easily pleased but this place ticks all the boxes. It's good for families and couples, very spacious so you don't feel over crowded. Nice and clean throughout with friendly, attentive staff! Will definitely visit again !

We’ve been here before, about 6 months ago, and the food was horrific. I said I’d never go back, BUT we are now childminders and wanted somewhere new to try and my other half convinced me to give it a go, glad he did.

Large pub, 2 separate rooms for eating in with adults only on 1 side & a family room on the other side. Indoor & outdoor play areas & free car parking. Good selection to choose from on the menu. 5 of us ate & all enjoyed our meals. I ordered bbq chicken which is a favourite of mine & this was by far the BEST bbq chicken meal I have ever eaten!! A HUGE beautifully cooked chicken breast topped with bacon slices (not dried up & crispy!) & the cheese was delicious, a good amount & grilled perfectly!! The bbq sauce drizzled over the chicken was lovely, unlike ones I've had in the past that tasted artificial & overpowering. Would recommend this place to anyone.

45 minute wait for two wraps and chips. When I asked I was informed there was only one chef on, yet the people in the table next to us had ordered more meals after us and their food arrived within 15 minutes! This seems to be a running trend!

Called in for fish and chips to share - £10. Opened the box to find the fish in three pieces. Rancid oil taste to both fish and hard chips. Truly the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten.

This is a handy place to eat when visiting Whitby Abbey especially after climbing up the steps. Decent number of tables inside and out. It can get busy and likely there may be a queue. It is part of the Youth Hostel and serves a variety of hot and cold drinks, cakes as well as larger meal options. We all had paninis which were nice enough and the side order of chips were nice. Nothing spectacular but it filled a gap well and with nice views.

Use this pub regularly drinks at good price food reasonable for this type of pub. Comfortable surroundings, not the best weatherspoons compared to many others. Come here regularly could do with more staff.

The cat's pyjamas? Dog's dinner more like. After initially nearly leaving due to the horrible atmosphere we settled and ordered a breakfast and avocado and halloumi on toast with two coffees. Our drinks arrived quickly but the food mustve taken about 45 minutes to come, with no acknowledgement of the long wait. It wasnt particularly busy. When the food arrived it was awful. The breakfast was greasy and badly cooked and I couldnt finish it. The avocado and halloumi on toast was literally a few slices of avocado and overcooked halloumi, on the side of some burnt toast. Dont bother, there are far nicer places in Scarborough.

For a large pub and the fact it was late on in the day on a Saturday, it was very clean and the staff were very polite. Food was good and nice selection of beer.
