As Storm Ashley brought dismal and chaotic local conditions, where better to enjoy great food, lovely hospitality and a very warm welcome than at The Plough. We visited for Sunday Lunch with our dog, sat in the bar area and enjoyed a first class meal with very attentive staff and great food. Thoroughly recommend!

Unbelievably it’s 6 months since our last visit A really good lunch again Excellent bottle of red Nice appetisers whilst we chose our food (anchovies and chorizo) Emma had a the chickpea salad and I had the beef ravioli for starters (very nice) Emma had the butternut risotto for a main, I had the partridge, the fondant potato was epic, the breast was lovely - struggled with the wing and leg, reckon they should turn into a little croquet or something? Lemon posset that Emma had for dessert was good, I had a delicious fig and sherry soufflé. Cheese to finish (being very piggy). Didn’t think the yarl had much favour but I thought I’d give it a go over the cheddar Brilliant as ever

This was the 4th time I’ve visited this restaurant. I ate there twice a couple of years ago and IT WAS GREAT. But more recently I took a few clients there for dinner a couple of weeks ago and it was EXCELLENT. It was so excellent in fact, that I decided to take a friend there last night and we weren’t disappointed. From the warm reception we received as we arrived, the helpful and bubbly young waitress (who remembered me from 2 weeks ago lol), through to the perfectly cooked crispy tempura tuna and mouth-watering fillet of beef….everything was great. We literally couldn’t fault anything….except for the fact we were too full to manage a dessert. A hidden gem on the outskirts of Bedford. Will definitely back again soon….maybe not in 2 weeks though lol. All the best. Sam G.

A friend recommended a visit to the Plough. Although it was very busy the service was absolutely outstanding from the minute we arrived. Drinks arrived super promptly with lovely home made bread and pesto dip. The food was great with a wide choice from an interesting menu. My husband and son particularly enjoyed the Porterhouse steak. The vegetarian in our party was also well catered for. It was a bit of a trek for us to get there but we will definitely come back!

Consistently delicious and varied food, lovely setting, excellent service from a professional and team, and two beautiful dining areas (Oak room - cosy, intimate and comforting or dining room - light, elegant and uplifting) to choose to eat in. Booked a table by email the evening before, rang in the morning to ask to eat outside, rang just before to say we would be late. Always friendly and positive. When we arrived staff member came out to greet us. Gave us a choice of tables, provided iced water immediately as we were hit and thirsty from cycling and advices on the fizz to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Selected the set menu which was interesting and varied. Beautifully presented, attentive service throughout and a restaurant I’m looking forward to eating at again.

The Plough continues to deliver excellent food, ambience and service. A thoroughly enjoyable evening which started with a warm and pleasant greeting from Jane, and attentive but not overbearing service from the servers. The food was wonderful. The wines from an excellent menu, and great ale, Black Sheep and London Pride from the pumps. I mentioned quietly towards the end of the meal it was a birthday tree and when my excellent gooseberry tart was served a pastry chef had written in chocolate piping ‘Happy Birthday’ on the edge of the plate. A single lit candle was in the tart. What a lovely touch. The Plough is our ‘go to’ restaurant for occasions and this visit shall not be the last. The whole balance of the evening is perfect. The prices are very reasonable for this beautiful place and repast. The chefs are on the ball and knowledgeable. Highly recommended. My last note, nothing to do with the restaurant, but I do feel some clients could take the trouble to dress for the occasion. The majority did, but - and here’s the snob in me - The Plough provides and superb, candlelit Oak Room in which to dine why turn up in sandals and shorts?

I’d neither describe myself as a ‘foodie’ nor particularly wealthy, which may well be the ideal target audience, although I’m old and wise enough to recognise and appreciate quality good food and service when I see it. We were staying in St Neots for two nights to attend a wedding, and fancied a treat. The Plough did not disappoint. It’s about a 15 minute drive from St Neots, and quite the hidden treasure. My SATNAV wasn’t entirely sure of its location! The menu on the night was presented on one double-sided sheet of A4. Side one gave the option of two courses for £48, and there were various steaks from £29 on Side two. My car’s probably not worth much more than £48, and it’s not a price I’ve paid very often in my life, but what a treat. Each of us chose a different meal that proved to be absolutely stunning. The service was equally amazing and the plentiful staff were courteous, patient, helpful, and extremely professional. With the greatest respect to the bride and groom, compared to The Plough, the wedding sucked! Highly recommended for those special occasions.

We visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch and couldn't have made a better choice. On arrival we went through the covid formalities and were shown to our table in the conservatory overlooking a little pond in the grounds. The tables were nicely spaced and the set with gratis bread and olives arriving quickly. Disposable menus and wine lists were already on the table. Our drink requirements were efficiently dealt with as was our subsequent order from the two or three course fixed price Sunday lunch menus. Plenty of choices were available, including vegetarian options for both starter and main courses. Between us we had the starter salad and the crab salad...both excellent and roast sirloin for the main courses. The beef was perfectly cooked to order and served with yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes..(at long last I have found a chef who can manage crispy outside and soft inside...a holy grail for me). Individual dishes of vegetables accompanied including a pot of extra gravy..a nice touch. Puddings looked tempting but we finished with excellent coffee and a homemade biscuitService was excellent, friendly and efficient. Definately a restaurant to be recommended..

Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. Our starter of tatare was a bit small compared to what you get in France) but beautifully seasoned and nice and fresh and certainly enough for a starter. My main course of partridge was ok. The two breasts were slightly tough but nice, however the two legs were totally inedible, being so raw that I could not even cut into them with my knife. I mentioned this to our waitress when she collected our plates but nobody came back to me.It's a shame as we have eaten here in the past and never been disappointed before.

So having recently moved we have been keen to explore our new local restaurants. 45 min drive not exactly local but the Plough has been on my list of restaurants to try and it did not disappoint. The roast pigeon breast with saffron risotto was one of the best starters I have ever had - it was that good and quantity was decent. Followed by pheasant loin with faggot potato, roasted cauliflower and red wine sauce, the flavours were sensational ! Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better I finished with honey and cardamom parfait with roasted figs and pistachio tuile . Coffee served with what tasted like mini warm home made chocolate cookies . I forget to mention our bar snacks, devils on horseback, chorizo sausage and anchovies with sour dough and olives . Was aware of it's "good reputation". A big disappointment. The 'Ins and Out' menu is expensive and of poor quality. The bread and olive oil option had no balsamic vinegar. The artisan bread was heavy and doughy. One olive each when it said "with olives'.Moorish pork skewers chewy and over flavoured with cumin. The polenta base was watery and fluffy. Roasted vegetables ok ish.Goat's cheese and roasted vegetables on ciabatta was poor. After one olive there were lots of chewy gherkins. Tiny amount of salad leaves and Goat's cheese. The aubergine was tough.A simple meal under delivered.Wine was good though probably £10 overpriced when compared with local venues.Lovely building and at first impression good service. The "perfect trinity" statement is pretentious and not true. What a shame. It could so easily be better.

I cannot recommend this restaurant too highly. In difficult times the team have worked hard to make it feel safe, welcoming and as "normal" as it can be and they have succeeded. We felt welcome and relaxed from the moment we stepped inside. The food was as superb as it always has been, with an interesting menu always using quality, fresh, local ingredients where possible. The starter of salmon with a horseradish soufflé was delicious and my pork cutlet superb. I love the style of food here because it is not to "cheffy" as to be ridiculous! We ate lunch here a day or so after they opened. Though they are now taking great care to observe COVID guidelines, the atmosphere was still great and the welcome as warm as it always has been. We eat in the bar because we take our dog and it’s lovely to have a bowl of water waiting for him when we arrive. The food is as delicious as ever - the only ‘pub’ I know who can pull off a soufflé as triumphant as theirs and which puts a lot of fine dining restaurants to shame - and a clever approach to the wine list with a QR code on the short menu which takes you through to the full list online. We shared a chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection with triple cooked chips which were crunchy and fluffy. It’s lovely to support a treasured local business and we’ll be back again soon.

The Plough easily retained its Best in Bedford status. Service impeccable, friendly yet unobtrusive. Menu full of interesting choices, expertly executed and a great choice of wines. Very good cheese menu, do try the Baron Bigod, that was a wonderful discovery. Moules as a starter with warm fresh bread for the delicious sauce. Overnight slow cooked beef with a sirloin pave; quite outstanding.

When we booked. we asked for a quiet table so that we could talk, and one was selected for us. Service was prompt, polite, quick and efficient. Four different starters and two different main courses were all pronounced as delicious. I asked for a second starter as a main course, accompanied by potato and vegetables "No problem." That, too, was delicious. Our desserts (including a huge and perfect souffle) left no space for cheese or coffee. The whole meal was simply delicious. "How can a restaurant like this survive in a tiny place like Bolnhurst?" Because it's good and its reputation spreads by word of mouth.

I found the plough after hunting online for a quality gastropub in North Beds. The Plough did not disappoint at all. It’s a lovely building, with lots of space, a buzzing atmosphere and log fire. The staff were all great at what they do and how they do it....all with a smile and a relaxed professionalism. They helped look after my father, who is badly disabled and struggles to walk. We all opted for the 3 course Sunday lunch and every dish we ordered was perfect. Between each course there was a well timed break - not too short to allow the previous course to go down, but not so long that you felt like you were waiting. We don’t live locally, but when we next come to see the family we will come back to the Plough for sure. For a gastropub it’s just about perfect.

A cosy Sunday lunch teaming with rain outside the real wood fire was a warm welcome. The staff were all incredibly attentive but that star of the show was the amazing food. The veloute starter was stunning, others in our party raved about the risotto and the set menu salmon ceviche was yummy. You have to like ginger to enjoy the duck.

Having promised ourselves a visit for many years we finally made it and oh my was it worth it. Great atmosphere and setting with roaring log fires. Attentive and efficient staff. The food was just fabulous from beginning to end, especially the côte de boeuf. Lots of gluten free options and gf beer on tap. A wonderful evening that we will be repeating.

We phoned at short notice on a Friday evening and they managed to fit us in for dinner. It is a really comfortable pub with a warm and welcoming ambience. The menu was imaginative with lots of choice and the wine list is unusual and not over-priced. We both had the same meal. The potted shrimps were an individual interpretation of a classic, but was very successful - beautifully seasoned and presented. The pig cheeks were excellent and showed a really skilful hand in the kitchen. Service was friendly and efficient and we plan to make a return visit as soon as possible.

We haven’t visited here for a long time and we have been missing out. There is a great atmosphere even in very busy restaurant. The quality of the food is excellent. Portions are perfectly sized and full of flavor, we were able to enjoy 3 courses without feeling too full. The warm chocolate orange tart was to die for. Will definitely be returning soon.

I had booked my visit online and was very quickly ushered in to the restaurant without any delay by some very pleasant and polite members of the establishment. We were served immediately but not rushed and the meal was lovely - beef roasted to my liking - pink - and the vegetables also excellently cooked and able to eat without having to use a hammer and chisel but not over cooked either - I had an excellent house red wine to compliment the occasion. the atmosphere was convivial - quiet chatter and busy staff walking around keeping an eye on tables but unobtrusively - I left with a warm feeling in my stomach and will look forward to coming again in the near future.

As always - friendly, attentive with great ambience and of course excellent food. I had the smoked beef - a new and delicious experience while my wife enjoyed what a good cook can make of a simple cod steak. To start a rich hot soup for one - and a grilled broccoli salad for the other. A real brule and a sweet wine finished it - driving meant full exploration of the Plough's cellar was not possible!

We always love to retreat here to the cosy bar for lunch. The two/three course menu is excellent value and always an appealing set of choices. I love that I can choose something light and low carb; it is so refreshing to be able to choose, for example a delicious fish dish with quinoa instead of endless chips or mash (although those are available too). The food is beautifully cooked and presented.

We had dinner here Saturday evening having found the restaurant on trip advisor. The food was as expected absolutely lovely and the staff friendly and welcoming. Beautiful grounds and atmosphere really set the evening off. We sat in the bar as the restaurant was full but that in. O serrated from the experience. My only criticism is that when calling to book I was told they where fully booked and turned away. No mention of the option to dine in the bar was given so I nearly missed out: its only that we where passing and stopped on the off chance that we where able to enjoy the delights they had to offer

We met we four friends for a Sunday lunch at this delightful restaurant. Typically superb service where they get it just right ie attentive but know when to leave you. All 6 of us said we have never had a bad meal or experience here and yet again we left feeling very happy. Lovely choice on the menu and fish cooked to perfection which is not easy. One of the party is gluten-free and they bent over backwards to help him. Nothing is too difficult for the staff here and it is a favourite place for us. The impression is one of perfection and to create this impression an awful lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes. Thank you for a very nice day again.

20 odd people waiting outside for doors to open at 19,00. Therefore a bit of a clamour to get in and get a pre dinner drink. They might be better to open the bar half an hour or so before the restaurant. Notwithstanding this the service throughout was excellent. The veal and sweetbread starters were very good. My sliced beef main was a bit chewy but tasting my wife's turbot confirmed that we both felt it was divine, I forget exactly what our desert was called, but it was very chocolatey and jummy. The sommelier was very helpful and the wines chose not too expensive. Have been to pretty well all the best restaurants in the environs of Cambridge and the Plough delivers the nearest to fine dining you well get. Quite pricey.

Oh no regrets my starter was out of this world spinach haddock and a hens egg, so tempting to see what it was about, this must have been one of the best starters I have ever tried! My main course was Turbot with crab an prawn sauce served on a bed of fantastic veg . Oh what a meal , to full to try a sweet course! Was recommended this pub by a friend. Really looking forward to a pub lunch on a Sunday afternoon.. Completely disgraced and disappointed on arriving. Utterly disgraced by the TLC on the sofa chairs by the window ( where we sat).. sofa covers ripped seeing yellow polyestiring in seats fraying.. 😕 Friend was told pub was not doing food?? Any reason for a Sunday afternoon, could chefs be having a day off.. Very very disappointed we both were, summing up a few gents in the restaurant area having beers. Bar lady serving drinks watched me and my friend exit the pub seemingly un-concerned… Glad I’m not a local definitely will not be returning.
