Great little pub ! Excellent sausage baguettes. My visit was with local family when on a little break in Bramley over Easter weekend. Our hosts suggested a quick walk to the Plough - which we did and the Plough shimmered like the proverbial crock of gold at the end of the Rainbow. We weren't disappointed an excellent old school pub with good beer and lunches. We left far too soon as I would have stayed all afternoon. Well worth the trek !

I tried to book for a meal but was dismissed at once, telling me "politely" that they do not do food in the evening. I was about to ask if they only do lunchtimes but the man put the phone down on me, without any further explanation. I would not call this attitude very customer friendly. In any other country, they would be out of business. I read that they only welcome locals and I have just experienced that. A real shame that they don't open up to customers but I guess that reflects the whole mentality of the owners or managers. PS:I had to put one star but obviously would have been none if allowed!

The good reviews led us to this pub after a very long muddy walk at Pamber Forest with my dog and a friend. Unfortunately we did not feel welcome, it didn’t feel warm. It felt snubby like “local pub for local people”. It was quiet when we came around ~13:50 on a saturday afternoon. I asked if they are serving lunch, i was told they stopped serving food at 2.. (checked my watch and it was only less than 10min to two). We were also told they only accept cash. It would help if they put somehere in the details to say only accepts cash. I would have gone with cash in hand! Overall, just very disappointed…the lady behind the bar came across like she did not want to serve us. We were desparate for drinks or just water as we were walking for ~10kms and got lost in the way just to get to this pub. Shame.

Cash only. If you are not local you’d likely to be turned away to be told they only accept cash. Somewhere here must say this pub only takes cash so people are aware and bring cash with them. It’s frustrating to finally get to here but turned away because they don’t take cards!

I cant go often enough to this pub. The beer is excellent, as are the baguettes (I recommend the coronation chicken). None of the atmosphere-ruining appendages to be found in too many pubs today. It’s just so pleasant to be sat there. It is friendly and relaxed. People even talk to you, imagine that!

One of the best pubs in my neck of the woods - just a little too far away to be a regular unfortunately. Completely unspoiled country hostelry always offering a warm welcome, excellent ales and food in the cosiest of "olde worlde" interiors. I'll be back. Also a favourite venue for the Kennet Morris Men, and Terry, mine host, seems to like us too!

Best pub ever, like stepping back in time… Cosy, untouched or modified by companies that want to turn every old rural pub into some kind of cute cottage style restaurant. The Plough is a proper English country pub. It's all about the pub atmosphere, with good beer, and friendly people. It's refreshing to find a pub that isn't food led. There are some lovely walks directly from the pub, which make it a perfect place to start and finish a walk with some much deserved refreshments. The garden at the back has a backdrop of fields, and is dog friendly.

The Plough has so much to offer. 1. There are so many interesting items to see around the pub. I advise people to take the time to see the many unique things which are on display. It is ideal for people who are intellectually curious. 2. There is a lovely clock in one of the corners. It is lovely. I took some photographs of it as I found it to be extremely alluring. 3. The baguettes are filling and nicely prepared. There is a good choice and the menu is handwritten, which is unique. As far as I know, they only do baguettes, but it is attractive as the portions are of a good size with great fillings. The bacon and Brie is really nice. 4. The other customers at the pub were really nice and welcoming. They made an effort to be friendly and engage in conversation. 5. We were greeted warmly and the woman who assisted us was really nice and helpful. She told us that she had just returned from Barbados, which was an excellent conversation-starter. We spoke about Caribbean holidays. I stated that I would recommend a You Tube channel, but I didn't get the chance to write it down for her. There is a channel called "Gladys and Kenny." They are a couple who have decided to travel the World. They make good-quality videos, but not in a bragging sort of way. I recommend this place. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.

I first stumbled upon the plough a year ago and it was like travelling back in time. With its low ceiling, dim lighting, stone floor and wooden beams it was like going back 100 years.I believe the building itself dates back to the 17 hundreds, so it’s hardly surprising. The beer is all real ale and is very well kept .I just love the place. Don’t know why I haven’t reviewed my local pub before now. I have been using this watering hole for two decades as a meeting place, darts venue and quiet place to which to take visitors. It’s very old building. Low ceilings, dog friendly, open fires and best of all fine beer, consistently. Terry has won numerous accolades for beer and has a fine selection of gin. Most of the beer comes either hand-pumped or straight from the barrel. There is no duke-box and gambling machines. Big beer garden, adequate car parking and the pub will be full of people living in the area. This pub is off the beaten track. Not a foodie pub but does serve well filled selection of baguettes. If you appreciate good beer and want to talk to your friends this is the place to go. Thanks Terry

Went for baguette lunch 19th July. Although I'm no longer an alcohol consumer due medical reasons it looked to have a nice selection, particularly local and proper beers,- like I eased to drink - one barman only it wasn't busy at all. For me like going back in time. I noticed the cash only situation for me not a problem but I do understand many can't cope with this. All in all a very pleasant lunch time stop over and by the way the baguettes were really nice.

Stopped off for a mid-walk lunch. Slightly put off by the fierce sounding barking dogs in the vicinity. To be honest once we went in the dogs seemed friendlier! Claustrophobic atmosphere and unable to actually have anything as they are a cash only pub. Given that a card reader is only a few quid a month to rent I can only assume that's a sort of gimmicky thing. Perhaps some find it endearing. The gleeful tone of 'no we only take cash' was actually just a bit irritating. We took ourselves off to the much friendlier and fully equipped calleva arms just up the road. There's appealing and traditional and there's arrogant and off putting. I'm afraid I found the Plough to be the latter.
