Can honestly say we loved this place from the minute we walked in . Landlord and landlady were extremely pleasant and friendly and it will go down as being one of the best Sunday dinners we have had and plenty of it too. The apple crumble was absolutely delicious 😋 and the service was excellent. Also enjoyed the 5 mile walk along the canal afterwards. A perfect Sunday

Cracking lunch at the Plough Inn …. Great welcome , great food and great service especially given the “uniqueness” of one of our party (mash & chips !! ). Those pies ! My word , love my pies and that must be the best I’ve ever had (there’s been a few) …. One of those days where you just wander into a place and have a great experience.

Our first time here for food and it won’t be the last. I think Sunday lunch is a benchmark for food standards so given it was exceptional, we are keen to try the other ‘special’ evening menus. From arrival, service was prompt. My husband was deliberating on beers and was given the option of beer samples before ordering. Our table was in the snug with a card game on the table which was a nice touch. Food order was taken promptly and my queries as a vegetarian were answered thoroughly with options. The food was excellent, freshly cooked with fresh ingredients. Proper portions too. My veggie meal (mushroom wellington) was fabulous with another great option (lentil cottage pie), which are great choices and different to the normal slice of uninspiring nut roast at other establishments. We had a side of cauliflower cheese and my husband scraped the dish clean it was so good. Puddings looked lovely but the main was so large we would have struggled, next time I’ll wear an elastic waistband and squeeze in a brownie. So glad to have found this, would happily recommend and look forward to visiting again soon.

Fabulous pub! Came for lunch and a few drinks today. Food was great, the chicken burger is epic! Great portion sizes. Good selection of Belgian beers which made the husband happy. Staff are welcoming, friendly and super helpful. Play park for children and a nice decked area outside too. Fabulous experience. We will be back and highly recommend a visit.

Just a quick stop for dinner, but very pleasantly surprised. Wonderful little pub in gorgeous surroundings located alongside the Grantham canal. Polite staff, good mix of beers on tap and a little food menu. The fish and chips have got to be the best I have had in a very long time. I cannot write the words to do it justice. The fish was in a light batter, flakey and delicious. The mushy peas were with a hint of mint and were beautiful. I think the chips are cooked in something illegal as they were amazing as well. Please come here and ask for the fish. You won’t be disappointed!

I booked The Plough Inn for the hen do I was organising. We booked the table for 15 people. Kirsty and the team were amazing! The entire hen party had nothing but positive things to say about The Plough Inn. Kirsty listened to everything we wanted, to make sure the party was personalised, wonderful, and fun. She put our party in our own room and decorated it beautifully with the decorations we provided. A very friendly service and we recieved our pre-ordered meals promptly. The staff were not phased by having a large party in the pub! The roast was delicious and the cauliflower cheese was the group's favourite- and it was agreed some of the best cauliflower cheese we had ever had! The Plough Inn is a lovely pub, with great staff and delicious food - I would recommend everyone to go!

My girlfriend's family have often visited this pub, and have always been generally satisfied. We were visiting from Lancashire, and her brother had booked a table for 8 people plus a two year and an infant. We ordered our drinks from the bar, so no problem with having to wait. The meal orders were taken, of which 3 were the Roast Pork, Yorkshire etc, and one was a Chicken Baguette. 5 of the meals arrived, but the 3 roast pork meals and Chicken baguette failed to make an appearance, eventually after about an hour, the waitress arrived with 4 pork baguettes... whoops.. It took over half an hour to rectify this mistake, by which time the other diners had nearly finished their meals. The accompanying apple sauce had to be asked for. The two year old child was playing with one the toys provided by the pub, and yes it was a bit noisy and irritating but hey ho, a nearby table complained, and we were asked to stop the child playing with it. This is a child and dog friendly pub, and I would have thought the other patrons were aware of this. The food however was good and tasty, but based on the whole experience, I am hard pushed to give more than 2 stars.

There was a lovely atmosphere, everyone was smiling and very chilled, this was brilliant considering how uptight some people are about the Covid situation, although obviously all distancing and hygiene measures were followed, they were done with a smile! Brilliant play area for the children, climbing frame needs a few fixes (planks loose on bridge etc) and zip on trampoline is broken, but regardless of this, the play area was well equipped and very exciting for the boys! We rest enjoyed lunch, it came quickly and the portions were large and everything was hot and tasty! Food is excellent, atmosphere is great and if you have a young family the play room / area is brill. The best news is that although it’s had a top to toe make over, the snug is still the same as I remember as a child and there are still dominos! Been again today for Sunday lunch and the beef fell apart in my mouth, very reasonable pricing and super friendly too, love it, bang on!

We t today for Sunday lunch, two of us had the chicken pate with pickle, and the other garlic and stilton mushrooms it was delicious X however the pickle we had to ask for and rather a lot of pate but not enough bread , two of us had the lamb and the other the beef, it was absolutely beautiful, it melted in your mouth lots of veg and so much on the plate I couldn't fault it at all and I will be going back and recommending to everyone I know. I just have a couple of constructive criticism , before the next course comes out cutlery should be on the table ready, and instead of putting gravy already on the plate it should come in a gravy boat so customers can put it on as they like it to be . Not everyone likes to have a lot of gravy all over the plate so it should be the customers choice of how much and where it goes. Good value for money and a lovely setting I will definitely re visit x

We visited the Plough Inn with two friends, choosing starters and mains from the specials board. My choice Nachos and chilli starter followed by smoked haddock and spinach risotto. Very reasonable price. Amazing food, great staff.

We were saddened when this most English of village pubs closed recently. We always enjoyed Nicola's cooking and found everything about the pub to be pleasant, comfortable and enjoyable. The nearby walks along the canal were a bonus. So now a new chapter begins with a new owner. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend there - with some trepidation! But we needn't have worried. The place is much as always - a real English village pub; and the food was splendid and, with special prices for lunch, beyond a bargain at under £11.00 for three beautifully cooked courses. The pies are excellent and the Eton Mess was, well - I almost ordered a second helping!I do hope the pub does well now. Hickling, with the Grantham Canal on its doorstep and wonderful walks, deserves a thriving village pub! Good luck to the new owners.

It's a few months since I went there but the change for the worse is significant. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but the pub was empty and nobody came in while I was there. The table menu's had gone and the limited menu was chalked up on a blackboard. The food was seriously lack luster and bland. However, the staff were friendly and the beer was well kept. It is sad to see such a good pub / restaurant going down the dip, hopefully it'll pick back up again

Have eaten here a few times. Food is rather variable. Today’s was not great but the fish and chips we had two weeks ago was great. Not much atmosphere at lunchtime, livelier in the evening. Best feature is pub’s location right next to the canal.

Average food, not made to feel welcome we were the only two people in there at lunchtime probably speaks volumes.

We were worried. Having had a v-e-r-y lacklustre Christmas meal at a pub in nearby village, should we order turkey again? But the waiter recommended it, so we did. Well, it was fantastic. The turkey was moist and tender and the vegetables were all perfectly cooked and so very tasty. Each ingredient was somehow better and different than normal - all had been given a very "cheffy" touch. The dessert equalled the quality of the main - a truly tasty, fresh damson and apple crumble. The value here is second to none. Thank you to the chef and our waiter.

No Pinta Cha Cha beer on, Greene King IPA was in its place. There was a different cask on the bar which replaced something else. I just wish there was always at least something different on the cask.
