Disappointing, especially when reviews say I should be otherwise. We all have different tastes and expectations and this is below par pub grub, burger was a bought in frozen lump of rubber, chips, again, bought in and supposedly thrice fried. Crispy onions rings though so not all bad. A waste of £50

Lovely friendly pub, great bar service and selection of drinks. We didn’t want anything to eat but lots of customers were enjoying a pizza from a pizza man in the garden. You could eat them in the pub, they looked good. Lots of locals were commenting on how good the Argentina meat night was the night before. Good to hear they had different styles of food available. Also good entertainment, a soul, rhythm and blues singer is booked here for Saturday night. Lovely friendly pub and very busy. Saw signs that that also welcome dogs too, which is always good to see. Lots of locals were in here so a great atmosphere.

Staying at a local campsite so booked a table for early evening. Lovely atmosphere in the pub. We went through to the dining area with our 2 dogs. Pleasant setting, clean pub, average food and poor service. Table booked for 6.30 pm, order taken at 6.50 pm, food arrived at 7.50 pm, by which time the kids were ready to eat their own legs! Everything took too long; drinks too forever and even the dog treats (which hardly needed cooking) were slow to arrive. The excuse for the latter was that 'they arrive with your meals', but that would have been a disaster, bearing in mind the dog bowls and stand were placed on the table. Needs a bit of a rethink.

I booked this pub, to finish off the good week I had with my best mate, and my Husband joined us(after travelling on his motorbike)..The thing I loved was everyone was friendly, happy to help...as iit was a humid night(8th Sept),we decided to eat our dinner outside...The waitress came to our table within 15 mins, she told us what was on the menu, what the specials were..phil(my Husband) had baked camebert to start, Carly and I decided we'd just order the main course, I had pie n mash, with gravy n mixed veg, Carly ad steak n chips, and Phil had this burger (it was massive)... I LOVED my pie..it was bloody tasty..phils burger fell apart, but he also said it was far more tasty than just an average burger, and Carly couldn't stop saying (um nomnomnom). I said I wanted desert, and Phil and carly didn't think I'd manage it, BUT...I devowed a lemon mousse, with cream..and it was so nice even licked the plate clean. A beautiful Pub, which was only a 10 minute walk away from Rutland campsite... I was excited on the walk back, we saw 4 bats, and an owl. All I can say is....if you're ever lucky enough to stay at Rutland campsite, YOU'VE GOT TO GO TO THE PLOUGH...you will not be disappointed Strangers actually talk to each other, not like back here in Essex.. I can now see why my best mate, said that being around Rutland Waters it's so peaceful, and I actually get it.....I'm coming back hopefully very very very soon

Sorry guys our meals were just disappointing - as it was Monday much of the usual menu was not available (apparently resupplied on a Tuesday) but our lasagnes were definitely overcooked and the venison pies similarly dry. The waitress was apologetic but it became amusing hearing the same tale repeated for customers who arrived after us when the pies and lasagnes had also run out. Selection of veg turned out to be carrot and red cabbage. Didn't stay to sample the desserts! Not an experience I would wish to repeat when the county of Rutland is teeming with good eateries.

Went here for a family meal, to say that this cost 5 of us over £400 there were various items that were very disappointing that I feel I must mention. £18 for a single scallop starter in some flavoured cream foam seemed excessive. One person's slow cooked short rib was tough and flavourless masked by toppings, one person's pork ribeye was chewy and dry with a side of extremely dry roasted new potatoes, squid ink pasta fish dish served with an odd green sauce and raw carrot ribbon and the pasta was dry and didn't taste of much, barely any vegetables on any of the dishes, and to top it off waitress tried to put red wine jus sauce onto husband's beef rib after he said SEVERAL times he didn't want it as does not like anything with alcohol in it (yes even if cooked off!) and she didn't seem to want to take no thankyou for an answer. Also his mash provided in a tall sided small bowl with no spoon to get it out with?! Poached pear pudding also disappointing pears were pretty much raw and very hard-so much so that we had to ask for knives for them that were slammed down on the table. Didn't make a fuss about all the lacklustre meals as mothers 70th birthday meal but overall very much style over substance and not worth the price tag. Tables very close together and had people constantly kicking my chair legs as they squeezed past me. Car park and entrance very dark and slippy in places with uneven surfaces

Stopped here out of convenience on our way to an event and had a lovely evening, tasty meal and good sleep. Dog enjoyed herself too!

Another fantastic lunch at The Wheatsheaf today. All of our starters and main courses had clearly been carefully planned by the chef and were perfectly cooked and presented. A special mention is needed for the steamed Fowey mussels that were as fresh as you would find at a West Country harbourside restaurant. The service was impeccable as ever.
