The Plough in Rutland

Picturesque village. Invasive and quite rude reservation experience demanding full name, email address and phone no otherwise were told I'm no uncertain terms they would refuse the booking. dogs rules the roost here and aren't always considerate or under control. pub food, reasonably decent.

Proper homemade Sunday lunch. Really good service. Would recommend

Pleasant setting, clean pub, average food and poor service. Table booked for 6.30 pm, order taken at 6.50 pm, food arrived at 7.50 pm, by which time the kids were ready to eat their own legs! Everything took too long; drinks too forever and even the dog treats (which hardly needed cooking) were slow to arrive. The excuse for the latter was that 'they arrive with your meals', but that would have been a disaster, bearing in mind the dog bowls and stand were placed on the table. Needs a bit of a rethink.

Lovely village pub. The landlord and staff are very friendly and cant do enough for you. It's a very dot friendly pub with a doggy menu. The food is cooked beautifully and plenty of it. We ate here quite a few nights and every meal was delicious 😋. Its cosy and warm. Would highly recommend and we will return when are in the area again. Val and Kat Southampton

We visited the Plough on Saturday for an evening meal and again for Sunday lunch. On both occasions we had our dog with us and we were able to eat our meals in the restaurant. The food both times was hot and delicious. They also have a dog menu for you to order something for your pooch(s). I would highly recommend booking in advance. We will definately be returning when we are back in the area.

The plough knows who they are, a traditional village pub. It’s not over complicated or gastro. The service is friendly and welcoming and the food is good pub food. Well priced and value for money. The meals were presented well as well as the service from the staff. I can’t fault our visit and will be back when we next stay in the area.

Wonderful pub catering for both diners and locals having a drink (and game of darts). The food (lamb shank) was beautiful, the choice of local beers was excellent and the service warm and personable. No surprise the pub was full on Saturday night.

What a pub should be in my view - good food, friendly service, great beer, dog friendly (even though we don't have a dog!), a piano and a guitar on the wall! A real community asset.

This pub is amazing our first time visiting greetham and when we popped in the atmosphere was chilled and relaxing booked a table on Saturday nite for food and watch the live entertainment put us rite where we wanted to be the food was amazing the service was outstanding and the entertainment was great they even helped us to find our way back to the cabin with advice we also booked for Sunday dinner which I can’t wait for now tasting the food amazing place thank you so much for our experience

What a find!! We are having a weekend away in our touring caravan, and wanted to find a reasonably priced pub for dinner. Well, we found this gem! Fantastic service and delicious food. If we come back to the area, we will be back. Oh and dog friendly, which was so nice.

We went to spend time together because we use to meet up every week ..we also did their quiz too ,the food was beautiful the staff brilliant and so friendly and the quiz really good so overall we had a great night and we are going back next week too for food and quiz we may have found our Thursday night out pub I recommend this place

We visit this pub often, after one of the many stunning dog/walking routes. Easily the most dog friendly pub around. Staff are lovely and friendly, always welcoming, with four legged friends too. Great selection of beers and wine, and the food is amazing, and very well priced with special offers every day. Highly recommended.

Staff were brilliant. Gyp so good and those burgers, wow. Everything was spot on.

We went here for the first time as staying in Oakham. Lovely pub excellent food staff were so friendly and helpful. We had lunch Friday dinner Saturday and Sunday lunch best roast in a long time. We will be back thank you 😊

Great village pub, relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. I enjoyed the Oakham 3 Witches Ale. They have a Friday special of 20 quid for 2 fish meals. I can definitely recommend going.

Don’t go in the bar unless you like dogs, we loved it! There is a restaurant that is quieter. We had excellent fish and chip supper. Great beer, Have been before and will be going back, not many places you can relax with an inquisitive border terrier but she loved the company of other dogs on a Friday night!

Stopping at motorhome site pub just round corner had 3 lovely bar meals while we were staying, steak spot on great chef and all staff chatty really nice, do a curry night unfortunately for me no beef madras that night booo just joking 😁 kind regards Kenny Carolyn Sooty.

We went on a Wednesday for burger night. Well priced with the deal of buy one, get one half price. Juicy, tasty and big! The staff were friendly and attentive. I prefer the bar area than the restaurant as a setting. A lovely village pub, to complete the night we played bingo!

I booked this pub, to finish off the good week I had with my best mate,and my Husband joined us(after travelling on his motorbike)..The thing I loved was everyone was friendly, happy to help...as iit was a humid night(8th Sept),we decided to eat our dinner outside...The waitress came to our table within 15 mins,she told us what was on the menu, what the specials were..phil(my Husband) had baked camebert to start, Carly and I decided we'd just order the main course, I had pie n mash, with gravy n mixed veg, Carly ad steak n chips, and Phil had this burger (it was massive)... I LOVED my pie..it was bloody tasty..phils burger fell apart,but he also said it was far more tasty than just an average burger, and Carly couldn't stop saying (um nomnomnom). I said I wanted desert, and Phil and carly didn't think I'd manage it, BUT...I devowed a lemon mousse, with cream..and it was so nice even licked the plate clean. A beautiful Pub, which was only a 10 minute walk away from Rutland campsite... I was excited on the walk back, we saw 4 bats, and an owl. All I can say is....if you're ever lucky enough to stay at Rutland campsite, YOU'VE GOT TO GO TO THE PLOUGH...you will not be disappointed Strangers actually talk to each other, not like back here in Essex.. I can now see why my best mate, said that being around Rutland Waters it's so peaceful, and I actually get it.....I'm coming back hopefully very very very soon

Very welcoming with dogs permitted through the bar and restaurant. Huge lasagne that was excellent. Voice of four real ales. All good. Fair price.

Stopped off on way to skipton. The Timothy Taylor Blonde was lovely. I would be happy to drink in there on a regular basis. Well kept and poured slowly. The food was good. Fish n chips scampy and lasagne. Staff were friendly. So we enjoyed a bit of banter. Back on the road.

Sorry guys our meals were just disappointing - as it was Monday much of the usual menu was not available (apparently resupplied on a Tuesday) but our lasagnes were definitely overcooked and the venison pies similarly dry. The waitress was apologetic but it became amusing hearing the same tale repeated for customers who arrived after us when the pies and lasagnes had also run out. Selection of veg turned out to be carrot and red cabbage. Didn't stay to sample the desserts! Not an experience I would wish to repeat when the county of Rutland is teeming with good eateries.

Great evening here with our young son and dog. The pub was busy so definitely worth booking ahead. The food was excellent, we enjoyed the pizza’s and a great dog menu too! The pub was really dog friendly, attentive staff and very clean toilets. Overall, friendly service in a locals pub.

Top tip make sure you book. Very dog friendly.The only place I've been who has a dog menu . The human menu was very good. The staff were on the ball,knew about the food they were serving and lovely. The food was very good and the deserts were homemade and very good. I had the sizzling duck and a chocolate and caramel pyramid. Good job I missed the starter as I would have been too full. Tuesday was Pie night and I had a tasty beef and stilton pie with mushy peas and chips. Friendly and attentive staff. Would recommend booking in peak times.

The meal was excellent, had a beef roast and was very generous with beef. Only thing I can have a little say about as we were visiting the area and we booked online. Web site asked for any requirements and we put I was gluten-free so could I have a Yorkshire gluten free? No responce through email, but that was fine. We arrived, we were put in a designated table and our dinner arrived with no note of my dietary requirements. I had to leave my yorkshire as I wasn't sure what was in it. But I'm still alive. The pub, staff and experience was fantastic and will visit again x

We had the most fantastic Sunday lunch here. Thank goodness we went for the smaller plate of roast beef; it meant we had room to share an incredible mint aero cheesecake in an Easter egg shell. Utterly sublime Thank you chef.

Lovely, welcoming and down to earth village pub. Easily walkable from nearby campsite but you'll need a torch after dark. Great home cooked food; even desserts, which were delicious. A nod to gluten free food hence only 4 stars.

Nice warm atmosphere... fire to sit by! Lovely cup of latte coffee and delicious spinach and stilton soup - huge portion - with cute bread roll! Sprouting pea shoots floating on top - delicious and classy. Sherry trifle afterwards and they gave us 2 spoons to share it as we asked! (Post xmas diet). The burger meals looked enormous for a tenner or a little more so I want to go back! Scampi burgers looked fabulous.... The locals are nice and all bring in their lovely doggies, nice and friendly. Yes I'll be going back for sure for one of those amazing burgers! Food served from 5 pm!

Visted while staying overnight at the nearby camp site. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and staff who made a fuss of our 2 dogs with a couple of dog biscuits 😀 Food was amazing ! We ordered the Bacon & Blue burger which came with onion rings coleslaw and fries. It was delicious and well presented. A perfect little pub with dog friendly people and amazing food . We stayed at Rutland caravan and camping for 5 days and visited the Plough every day.. Hayley, Peter and staff were so kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The pub had a very welcoming feel and the food was amazing we will definitely...

Tuesday is pie night and we were delighted to tuck into two beautiful pies. I had lamb and mint and my husband's was steak and kidney. Not a scrap of grissle to be seen. The pastry was wonderful. Both came with ample gravy and accompaniments. My carrots and broccoli were cooked to perfection, I like a vegetable that actually looks and tastes like it should. Service was excellent and everyone really friendly. Thankyou for a very pleasant evening.

We popped in after a walk with our two dogs for a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord. A lovely pub that really feels like it's the heart of the community with the village shop forming part of the pub next door. The beer was good and the pub was really welcoming to us. One of our dogs is really frightened of fireworks and the village display was on that evening so we were encouraged to stay and we were really made to feel welcome and everyone was so understanding of our scared dog. We didn't eat but it looked very good and they have specials every day Friday was fish day.

This is an amazing pub. Due to age of the building there is no disabled access. However, the staff are extremely accommodating and assisted in any way they could. I cannot praise the staff enough, the food was fantastic and very well priced. They also have a good selection of single Malt whiskies. It is a shame that I can only give a score of 5, as this pub, staff and service should score higher.

We visited The Plough for their special grill night and enjoyed a wonderful mega grill (huge) and gammon steak with chips, salad, peas, etc. All cook to perfection. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and good service. We joined in the fun quiz too. A really nice pub. We’ll be back as have recently moved into the village and The Plough will now be “our local”.

Usually not one to write reviews but I was seriously disappointed. We went for Sunday Roast, the place doesn’t seem very well kept there were loads of flies and also smelt like dog. Dogs were in the actual restaurant and were in close proximity to us when we were eating. Meat was very tough and chewy, I couldn’t cut through it. It all tasted like it had been heated in the microwave not fresh at all. Over all not a very pleasant experience.
