A lovely place with amazing people. Such a great little place we found to visit for lunch while staying at Hopton Holiday Village. I couldn’t recommend highly enough. Great food, great prices and just as lovely staff. So accommodating with a large part too.

We came here for a Sunday roast as we’re staying at Haven Hopton down the road. We were warmly welcomed on arrival. We were unsure of what wine we wanted and were offered tasters before we purchased the bottle, ALL staff were so accommodating! We both had the roast lamb and wholeheartedly felt that it was one of the best roasts we’ve had out. Every component was perfectly cooked, a great selection of vegetables and delicious meat and gravy. The place itself is lovely, a quintessential and unpretentious pub - a lovely place to eat or drink! It was great value for money and we’d definitely go back.

Booked for our annual pre-Christmas dinner with family visiting from Aylesbury. With no direct criticism of the two staff on duty, our experience was not great. There was no adequate heating due to a boiler being replaced, an open fire was a welcome feature but the environment was still uncomfortably cold. Service was slow due to the inadequate number of staff on duty, our food, when it arrived was only just hot enough to eat. Our table was adjacent to an exit door which was constantly being used by customers coming and going, each time causing an icy draught to swirl around our table. Intrusive noise from workmen, fixing the broken boiler did nothing for the ambience. Overall a disappointing experience and a stark contrast to previous visits which have been excellent.

I Called before arriviving to check they were serving food and was told they would be till 20:15. I did not book a table but upon arrival they had reserved me a spot incase I did still came. Lovely table near fireplace and I was surprised to see they went to this effort even though I made no confirmation. On arrival I was greeted by a lady called Lisa who was fantastic and gave exceptional service the whole way through my experience. The food was delicious and the staff and surrounding customers were a real pleasure to be in the company of. Overall I highly rate this place to anyone looking to enjoy a few hours away from home as it offer a genuinely authentic pub feel how it used to be and from what I can tell has never lost its roots. In addition I felt the prices to be incredibly reasonable and has a lovely beer garden for those summer days too. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and can not wait to go back and try their sunday dinners on my next arrival. 5 Stars all round

We went here for lunch, didn't book but just dropped in and got a table just in front of the roaring log fire. Staff were really pleasant, food arrived promptly and there was plenty of it - especially the gammon egg and chips and for my meal the veg were cooked just right. The food was delicious, couldn't fault anything and for what we had the price was reasonable.

We returned to The Plough following a visit in Dec 2017 and enjoyed another good meal. Reading a selection of the reviews it is difficult to judge what your experience is going to be. Having said that we would go again. We had Hunters Chicken which was as expected and the other chicken main which came with seasonal veg' and a creamy mushroom sauce. Both were well cooked and tasty. Also the Timothy Taylors was much appreciated too. Apparently no other pub further East in the country sells it.

Nice place with lots of character but we found that the service was poor and the food was worse. Had gammon and everything on my plate was straight out of the freezer except the fried egg. The chips were a massive dissapoinment, I could have done better at home in 20 minutes. Service died off to zero for half an hour as we finished our meal. The waitress was having a chat at the bar. Would we go back? No! They are charging premium prices but serving budget food.

Our family have been coming here for years, it's always been fantastic. Unfortunately they have changed the menu and upped the prices, which is fair enough, but to pay £6.75 for tandoori chicken starter, and when it came out was so small it must have come off a budgie £13.75 Catch of the day was cod cooked lovely very fresh so fresh in fact it had eaten most of the chips as it was coming to our table. £12.95 for a veg pie for the wife, had a very slimy base. The drinks are also very expensive £4.10 for a 20oz lemonade and lime £3.50 for a pepsimax So if you like good pub grub at reasonable prices Unfortunately somewhere eles.

Odd title, but a complimentary one. The Plough is as they used to be in the late 70's the one armed bandit may have gone but everything else is still there, 'Olde Oak' furniture, swirly carpets and decor that one wouldn't want at home but is just perfect here, with the lovely friendly landlady serving yummy pub grub. A real locals haunt and no wonder everyone loves it.

The Plough is a very lovely pub. It's oozing with history and character. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and there is a huge outside area to enjoy. The staff are very welcoming and efficient and there is a really good choice of beers. There is a restaurant and food is also served in a bar. The cold months bring a roaring log fire. What's not to like? The food. It's very average quality and the menu hasn't changed in years. This pub should serve great food but it doesn't. It's simple and bland and quality is inconsistent. It could be so good. The Plough should be a destination. It isn't.

We called in here around 5 o’clock in the week after visiting nearby for an early tea. I chose the bacon and brie sandwich which was basically some reheated bacon with a huge slab of brie in the baguette. No effort was really made to try and melt the brie as it would normally be due to this I left quite a bit of brie. A partner chose a jacket potato which generally you can’t get wrong however this was quite hard in the middle and not particularly hot. I would imagine they were pre-cooked earlier and just reheated when people came in. The first beer that I had had a very funny taste however that was changed no problem. With such a huge selection of pubs around we certainly wouldn’t bother coming back

I don't know if the Plough has changed hands in the last twelve months, but I can only say that our experiences, on two evenings during the week we were in Suffolk, were nothing other than positive. If I knew nothing else about the place, the fact that it is very popular with the local residents - many of whom are known and welcomed by name - would make it worthy of recommendation. The very busy lady behind the bar (yes, she could do with another pair of hands to assist her, to be honest) made both us and our dog very welcome. Indeed, on the second evening, there were already a couple of other dogs in the bar area when we arrived.Delicious hot food, served in good time was available both from the varied menu (copies of which are readily available on the bar) or from the daily-changing "Specials" chalk-board over the fireplace.Criticisms of the decor being tired are, in my opinion, unfounded. The Plough is a popular and well-frequented country pub in an early 19th century building. Indeed, it is featured in one of Charles Dickens' novels. So if it shows a few minor signs of wear and tear, that should be no surprise. But as far as we could see, it appeared well-maintained throughout. Readers of my reviews will know that my overall assessment very often hinges on the state of the toilets which can sometimes let a place down badly. In this case however, they were spotless and sweet-smelling. Overall a very pleasant experience. We have already been twice. I can see no reason why we would not visit again if we are in the area.

Not eaten here for a long time. The food was absolutely lovely and not mean on the portion size as some places are. My sister and I had the Hunters Chicken it was lovely. The guys had fish and Chips and enjoyed it. I phoned on Friday to book a table and ask if they would have cod as one of the guys is a fussy eater. I spoke to a lovely lady called Helen who said they would make sure they had a piece of cod for him. You always have your doubts when you arrive to weather they have or not. True to Helen's word there was a piece of cod waiting for him. To say we were impressed was an understatement. The apple and blackberry crumble was gorgeous. Lovely pub with a large garden with seating so ideal if you ave a dog. Large car park so plenty of parking. Two roast dinners for £15 and it was very tasty. Plenty of vegetables which were not over cooked. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Popped in for lunch while in the area visiting family. Haven't been for a while but always liked the place. Never been overly impressed by the food on previous visits but today WOW! Were so pleased with the quality and value of our lunch that we went back on the evening for dinner. Food is fantastic, beer garden is gorgeous and the staff are so friendly. Makes me wish I lived closer as I'd definitely be making myself a regular!

I enjoyed my meal and evening at The Plough; the atmosphere, staff and food are all of excellent standard. The food was delicious and I spent the longest time admiring and complimenting the decor. I have no faults at all and hope to return some time!

If you are going to The Plough as an adults only group the food is ok. However, if you are planning to visit with children I do not recommend this pub/restaurant. We went yesterday, 4 adults and 5 children. We could not have been made less welcome. We were put into the restaurant on our own as it was clear they didn't want children in the bar, this was fine. However, the staff were so rude to our children, who were being well behaved and polite. Eyes rolling when orders being placed, sighs because the children wanted water rather than the fruit shoots offered and when a 5 year old girl asks quietly for ketchup she was told off for not saying please....I think that's my place to say, not the waitress. We spent £100 in here and I expected more from the service. Please don't have a children's menu if you do not want children dining.

I’ve been here for a few afternoon teas and lunches. The food is always lovely and cooked well, the themed afternoon teas are always really fun and a great treat for the local area. However the staff are not very attentive, they give you your food/drinks and leave you! It states unlimited drinks but they don’t ask if you need more, they don’t even check if your food is okay or if you need anything. At one point my friend said ‘excuse me’ and tried getting the attention of staff at the table next to us and the staff member just walked away, when we finally managed to ask for more tea they huffed like we were an inconvenience. There were also loads of hairs on our food, I think they were blowing around because they just kept appearing, maybe because they allow dogs. It’s a shame because I love the afternoon teas but it has put me off.

Super friendly and the burgers are amazing. Would probably travel back here just for this place. Chilli loaded chips are also fantastic

What an excellent choice of meals, starters and main courses and a specific lunch menu too!! 5 of us all had different meals and a pudding each as well. Everything was perfect. Good value for money too. The pub has been decorated and furnished well - tables not too close together. And the staff were amazingly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Probably one of the best pub lunches we've had for years.

Great meal had here on Saturday 😁 food was delicious 😋 We felt a little rushed though 🫤 our main course came when we were still eating our first course and was asked about dessert very quickly after finishing our mains🥴

We were staying in wrentham for the weekend and called in for a pint on the Friday and saw that Saturday was a tapas evening. So we booked a table for Saturday. Both the food and service were excellent. We would definitely visit again when next visiting the area.
