Had a retirement 'do' last Sunday (20/10/2024) and the Pledwick did us proud. We held it in the marquee and Sophie and her staff looked after us brilliantly, bring pizzas, wine, dips and salads until we told them to stop! Sophie even managed to organise the sun to shine! A great afternoon, and everyone enjoyed the event. So many thanks and well done!

The food on a Sunday lunch was very pleasant however it was VERY slow, 2.5hrs for a very simple 3 course meal, the service/food prep speed would probably explain why we were 20 minutes late getting our table at 1430. The food was ok and it was a popular location with how many people came through the doors. Would we return, probably not

As a family, we love going to The Pledwick. The setting, the view, the space, ample car parking and a terrific choice of drinks and food. However, one of the main pulls for us is the freshly made pizza and it’s here where the rating drops. We travel a few miles to visit the Pledwick but it’s normally a trip worth making. Lately though, it has become a bit of an annoying and frustrating let down. Why? Arriving and finding the pizza shack closed again and again, despite it being within the advertised opening times. It’s really disappointing and it’s something that the owner needs to look at as it’s having a negative impact on what is normally a good experience. Either open it when you say it’s open or remove it altogether. Meanwhile, I ended up spending £50 at a rival pub whose pizza oven is always on. However, I’d still prefer to be spending it at The Pledwick.

We enjoyed a superb lunch. The menu of the day was really interesting with such appealing dishes. I enjoyed a really tasty squid starter, followed by superbly cooked sea bass with courgettes and asparagus and then an amazing chocolate lava dessert. The cooking was of the highest quality. We visit here often, and have had Sunday lunch yesterday and previously booked Sunday Lunch for Father’s Day a couple of weeks ago . It was a set menu of 2 or 3 courses, and the standard of every dish was absolutely top notch. We were at Harvey Nichols for Sunday Lunch a couple of weeks ago and this was comparable if not better! The hash brown with black pudding centre, crispy bacon and veloute was absolutely delicious. The roast beef and pork were cooked to perfection, fabulous yorkshire puds and the crispiest crackling ever, and the tastiest roast potatoes we’ve had anywhere. Creamy unctuous cauliflower cheese was the perfect extra side. All piping hot and perfect sized portions. The summer berry eton mess was a perfect end to a fabulous meal. Tasted as good as it looked! Best meal we’ve had in a while, and the friendliest attentive service too from a lovely team. Compliments to the fantastic chef and thank you to the whole team for making our Father’s Day and every time we visit such a success, we’ll be back again very soon!

We booked The Pledwick for a wake when mum passed away. Rich and his team did a great job. Nothing was too much trouble and he and his chef were more than happy to accommodate my requests for a custom made buffet. We wanted put some warm food on the buffet and decided to do hot beef sandwiches, Chunky chips and steak and ale pie, as well as the usual selection of buffet sandwiches. Rich kept us informed by email as we confirmed the arrangements and on the day the staff were really friendly and welcoming. They did every thing they could to ensure the day ran smoothly and our guests were catered for. They even accepted a couple of strange requests for drinks on the day. The food was exceptional and all freshly made everyone commented on the quality especially the Steak and ale pie! The venue was spacious and had a massive car part so there was no stress there. overall the day was a really good day and people stayed a lot longer than we expected. I was surprised how reasonable the price was given our customized menu requests. Thanks Rich you helped us give my mum a great send off!

Visited as a booking for 6 and enjoyed possibly one of the best Sunday lunches we’ve had. Our only criticism was the wait of 1 hour 15 from order to serving, we got over that when the food arrived but were then told while still eating a dessert (a further 20 min wait) that we needed to hurry as the table was needed! We didn’t say anything to the waitress as it wasn’t her fault but spoilt an otherwise good afternoon out.

When you walk into a pub & the cheapest lager is Stella, you know there's not much change from £10 for two pints... Nice place but it needs to make its mind up whether or not it's a pub or a restaurant. It's trying to be both & failing. It's a pub in Wakefield. Not North Yorkshire. Over priced beer with no atmosphere. Massive underused beer garden. It has lots of potential, but nobody is going to spend a night or afternoon there because of pretentious prices.

We booked for 9 people after doing a family walk around the dam for some lunch and were seated and served drinks straight away. However after this the meal took a downward turn. The wait time for just the starters was ridiculous and then again twice as long (over an hour) for the mains as well. We had ordered more drinks to break up the wait but even then we were wondering what was happening with our food. The food itself was nicely presented when it did finally arrive, but the wait time was unacceptable and all three members of our group who had the steak pies said they were very dry. We are not ones for complaining at all, but due to how long it was and the frankly inattentive staff throughout, when we did raise this to the waitress there was not a single apology and just a "we're really busy" remark. The restaurant was busy but no where near enough for what we had experienced. After a bit of back and fourth with the waitress who was coming off more and more rude, there was still no apology but she did in the end take the pies off the bill, which was appreciated.....but a simple apology wouldn't have even led to that.

We live locally and tend to pop in to the Pledwick during the summer. The beautiful spacious garden and terrace make this a lovely place to soak up a few rays. Food has always been decent - I was once served the wrong dish, but they put it right, no problem. Good to see the food is properly home-made - gravy and Yorkie puds are made from scratch. Service has always been good too, though it wouldn’t hurt them to invest in some more cutlery and vinegar bottles as they always seen to be running out!

This was our first time back at the Pledwick for several years. (It's always been a lovely place, but it's on the wrong side of Wakeield for us.) The food was excellent but the service was slow and the whole place looked tired and in need of a deep clean. I sense that the slow service was because there weren't enough kitchen staff on duty, so I have every sympathy with the serving staff, who just had to make the best of it.

Is a decent spot, has a nice atmosphere and has been my local for a few months now but last Saturday I came in with a group of friends to watch the rugby, which we regularly do and was asked to leave as we were wearing cargos. I wasn’t aware of any dress code and didn’t think this would be a problem as it has never been a problem before. The barman came across slightly rude when we explained we didn’t realise and has put us out a bit.

Brought my sister for a birthday treat on Saturday 3rd February. The restaurant was quiet, only one other table in and they were served their food around the time we ordered ours. Around 20 mins after we ordered, two more tables of 6 came in and sat down. Around half an hour later, just as we were starting to wonder where our food was, they started bringing food out for one of the other tables of 6. We asked the waitress where our food was and she went to check. 10 mins later we finally had our meals brought to us and mine was wrong. We then had to wait another 10 mins or so for them to cook mine again. We complained to a blonde haired waitress who had a terrible attitude - no apology or explanation was given and she just walked away with a shrug as though we were in the wrong to complain! When we got the bill, we saw that we had been charged for a large glass of wine when my sister had asked for a medium. Pointed this out and the same blonde haired waitress said, yes i did you a large wine. Well ok, but that isn't what we ordered and we're not going to pay for it! Gave 2 stars because the food was nice when we finally got our correct meals, but the service was terrible and that particular waitress's attitude was appalling. Won't be going back.

My family and I (4 adults, 2 children) had prebooked a Christmas meal, and I can only wonder ... what went wrong? The meal took around an hour from our booking slot, which is a long time in itself, but with 2 small children, it was horrific. I just don't understand how they were unable to provide pre booked food in under 30 minutes. Its not as if they were queuing out of the door, either. There was absolutely nothing Christmassy about the table, for example, no crackers or trimmings or table decorations. The food, especially for the £85/head we paid, was nowhere near what was expected at that price point ... had it been £25/head, it would have been acceptable. We asked for some bread, a fairly common request one would imagine in any restaurant ... we got told that our dishes didn't come with bread. Okay, but if someone asks for bread, surely you give them bread as a side?? We eventually left, taking our desserts home (where one was served in a glass - on its side ... risk of accident aside, the dessert obviously didn't survive the drive home). We are REALLY disappointed. Everyone we told said that they had a great experience there but sadly, and at great expense, we discovered otherwise.

The family went for Dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday, so we didn't want to spoil it by sending food back and complaining. otherwise I would have. The starters were all good but all the mains were too heavily seasoned. My main course was turkey dinner, but the turkey seemed like it was just slices from some kind of turkey roll. If they say that it was freshly carved from a turkey crown, I would not believe it. The vegetables were far too heavily seasoned to be able to taste them and the brussel sprouts were warm but just not cooked; totally inedible. In contrast the roast potatoes went to pulpe when they were cut into; they were cooked too much. It's the same kind of main course that is available at so many places, all of whom do the food better and do not over season the food. I really wonder if the cook has something wrong with his/her taste buds or just a manic obsession with seasoning. If customers want a lot of seasoning then they can add it, but if it is too heavily seasoned then they lose a customer. We will definitely not be there again.

We have visited and eaten here for several years, and after a long spell of great food, in the last few months there seem to have been issues with changing chefs and we’ve had a couple of mediocre (at best) Sunday lunches and avoided coming back. We decided to give it another try today and I’m pleased to say we had a beautiful lunch. We both had the roast pork ( you have to ask for crackling and apple sauce) and a side of cauliflower cheese. All of it was beautifully presented, a good portion and came with a jug of extra gravy and more veg, all served with a smile. It was lovely and hot, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank goodness things seem to have gone back to the high standard we previously experienced here. Complements to the chef, we will definitely be back!

Been many times before and always rated the food as lovely. Went august 23 with family and our evening was ruined by our constant conversations about how crap the food was. It was very poor indeed & not as described on the menu at all. I didn’t want to post a review without first emailing the owner but since i have not received a reply i will add my email below: Hi there. We came to your establishment on Saturday early evening for food. The weather was beautiful and we had a family member visiting from London. I had not eaten at the Pledwick in a long time and when i last did, the food was beautiful. Saturday it was not! Infact, it was disgusting. It was tepid, flavourless, not seasoned & Served up with absolutely no care at all. Our entire evening was based on us talking about how crap the food was. It ruined our evening and to be honest embarrassed us as a family as we had taken our family member there with such high hopes. The hummus was absolutely NOT homemade. The duck gyozo was not in any kind of sticky soy sauce & was severed on a bed of completely dry packet noodles. The chicken Bourbon BBQ was the palest white chicken with no seasoning just a load of bottled sauce splurged on top. My nieces Burger was dry The parmesan truffle fries had NO truffle on them at all. I mean they were £5!!! My son who is 10 , i ordered him the child's burger which was not a small burger, it was a slider. And more suitable for a toddler. The entire menu is incorrectly described. I presume its the old menu and was once being fulfilled but not a new chef is just trying to make what is described on there and is completely falling short is the delivery. In addition to all of this. Behind the bar looked messy. The staff seem a bit chaotic. Although i was offered a refund on a couple of items and i accepted this gladly. I still feel like in an idea world we wouldn't have paid for any of it. What you choose to do with this information is up to you. But i will be adding a review to trip advisor and will discourage others from eating at the Pledwick in future. Many thanks

What can I say about the Pledwick? Well, firstly, it is in a magnificent location of Yorkshire, only a short walk from Newmillerdam, an exceptional place of local beauty. The pub itself, is set in sizeable grounds with ample parking. The bar is small and quaint, with indoor dining available. Outside is a sizeable patio area, with a pizza shack. Down a small incline, there is a huge grassed area with ample picnic tables. There are a fine selection of drinks and I have always found the staff to be polite, pleasant and helpful. With regards to the food, I can only offer the following…….. I have never eaten in the restaurant and can therefore offer no opinion other than the menu looks and sounds great. I have, however, often eaten on the patio and in the grassed area, having ordered pizza for myself and my family. The pizzas are great. Freshly prepared with a few topping options and very reasonably priced. The down side is the availability of food. As much as we love going to the Pledwick as a family, the reliability of the cooking staff is somewhat questionable, in terms of their attendance and is often disappointing. It’s not unusual to travel the 10 miles to get there and find no pizza chef, with no update on the website to indicate that this is the case. Should you choose to select from the main menu, as opposed to the pizza menu, a third of the left hand page is only available on Thursdays and a quarter of the right hand page is only available until 16:30, leaving a lot less choice. Oh and if you do manage to order pizza, fries can be served in the grassed area but not the handcut chips. Very bizarre. If they could sort the reliability of their staff, it would be my destination pub every time. Instead, I am currently seeking alternatives, which is disappointing as we love it there.

Looking for somewhere to take a visiting friend for dinner I chose The Pledwick as it was highly recommended. Maybe we were unlucky and picked an off day. I had already checked out the menu and was really looking forward to the hanging kebab. My friend also chose this and we had duck gyoza and belly pork for starters. I say for starters, we were actually advised that it would come out at the same time as the main course, why? We were advised this was because they were tapas, the menu states tapas, small plates and starters, starters to me are served before mains. Anyway the starters were tasty. We then moved on to the kebab which had been sitting getting cold at the table. The rice was bland, not sure it had seen any salt, the pitta bread was thin, tasteless and you couldn't open it to fill it so ended up wrapping the meat in it. Chicken was tasty but the chorizo was overcooked, dry and also came in the inedible casing! The skin on fries were pasty looking and not very crispy, could have benefitted from a couple more minutes cooking. Overall a very disappointing meal, service was good and the pub itself was done nicely however this would not be enough to make me return.

Not a great experience. Seeing a number of other tables, that arrived after you, being served before your food comes out is not great. It was well over an hour before our food appeared. It was suggested there was a reason for this due to what we ordered but it might have been nice to know this beforehand. The food was OK steak was excellent, pies not bad, the Halloumi hanging kebab (not served hanging) is probably best avoided, 3 pieces of halloumi and overcooked rice (overcooked as in really, really overcooked) was a bit of a damp squib. 50 minutes after we ordered the waitress came over to tell us that they didn't have any ribeye, that I originally ordered. it was automatically replaced with fillet which is fine but still (I also realised there were no onion rings served but only after we had left). The waiting staff were generally great, I felt really sorry for them having to deal with unhappy customers when the issue was clearly down to poor organisation in the kitchen. We didn't kick off or anything but had enquired a number of times; it was clear they were aware of what a poor experience we'd had. It wasn't exactly busy in the restaurant which just made it feel even worse. I suspect they may have been really busy dealing with a full beer garden but thats not my problem. As I would have expected we were given a no questions asked 50% discount on our bill and many apologies from the waitresses. It would have been nice if the manager who apparently decided to refund, had shown their face even if just briefly rather than leaving it to a number of blameless waitresses who were clearly trying their best, to offer the apology. It also became apparent that we weren't the only ones with issues this evening. the pub looks nice, drinks were fine, mainly a young crowd on a warm summer Friday evening. It's not an area we go to often so we are unlikely to be in that area again in future. I was really looking forwards to a catch up with family and some food but it really took the edge off things. disappointing

Also the staff could do with training ,the veg bowl had no utensil, so of us had napkins, and this cost £20 each.i can definitely say we wont be going back.

Great pub for the summer months. Has a massive beer garden with loads of room for the kids to play. An excellent terrace that you can sit and enjoy a decent pub grub meal. Good beers on tap, lots of friendly staff and handy for a walk around the dam if you are so inclined. Only issue we’ve found is that food service is pretty sporadic. We go here a fair bit and every time we come there’s a different set of rules in place. This time we went on a Sunday and they stopped serving food at 16:00, so we had to go elsewhere for food. Last time we went they had vegan pizzas on the menu and when we tried to order them we were told they didn’t have any vegan cheese and rarely did, order a pizza without cheese and it came out with cheese on and they still charged me for it because I hadn’t specified that all the cheese should be left out. Other times they’ve been great dealing with allergy requests, being really helpful and the chef coming to talk about the specific requirements to ensure they got it right. Just a flip of a coin which Pledwick is doing the food when you go.

First ever visit today despite living not far away. Girl on service was lovely and very attentive. I had hanging kebabs which were tasty ( a little sauce or garlic butter on the side would have completed the dish perfectly. My partner had the ‘Best pie in the world’ and he said it was really good too. We will definitely be back.

I asked the girl behind the bar if they could do the chicken salad with grilled chicken instead of breadcrumb, was told yes. The salad came with breadcrumb chicken and was told that the chef said he couldn't do grilled chicken?! The chicken was like something you get from tesco and was overcooked. Didn't have dressing on which said it came with. Was supposed to be green beans in the salad but I think the chef was confused and served beansprouts with it instead! I tried to speak with someone on the day but they were too busy. Sadly, I won't return for food!!

Went fir a sunday lunch. Food was lovely service was nice. Decent portions. I had the beef which was lovely and plenty of it. My companion had the nut roast as is vegetarian sadly that was the only option for the sunday roast for vegetarians. Only fault was the lack of cutlery. Dish of vegetables to share between 2 people but no serving spoon so had to use our forks to dish out the vegetables, which wasnt the best way to get the vegetables onto out plates. we also ordered a portion of cauliflower cheese each but sgain no serving cutlery so had to use our for again. Not good when one is vegetarian and one a meat eater. And difficult to get onto our plates. Desert we chose the brownie, it was quite a large portion. Certainly not dissapointed it was lovely. Prices a little steep but the food was nice and portion sizes were good. We only called on on spur of the moment so hadnt booked a table, it wasnt a problem at that time but i qould recomment booking a table as it got really busy a bit later on. All in all well worth a visit i would say.

Had an amazing experience at the Pledwick inn recently. Dropped in while in the local area and the food and service was exceptional. Couldn't help notice the great presentation of the food with other guests and our food also did not disappoint. Will definitely be coming back here and highly recommend a visit here.

They've spent a lot of money and absolutely ruined a beautiful pub with plenty of character turning it into an identik Wayfare furniture place that are ten a penny everywhere. Great job. What next, are they going to ruin Three Pigeons Ale House in Halifax, surely they'll give that a go

I'm so pleased that this place is open and under new management! The food is superb, I had sausage and mash while my girlfriend had steak and ale pie. Both were piping hot and seriously tasty. Great local to have, good luck to the new team! 😃
