The Plant Room in Brighton and Hove

A lovely experience. The staff create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and have huge personalities with big hearts. Today we were entertained by Lauren who gave us an impromptu rendition of ‘Vogue’ whilst making our flat whites, and the barista with the pink hair was hilarious. The best place for coffee and brunch on Boundary Road, with great veggie / vegan options, and delicious cakes made by their in-house baker. A fab place for people watching and dog friendly too. So lucky to have this around the corner from us.

Great coffee and sourdough in Brighton. The flat white is one of the best I have had. The staff is friendly as well. Location is excellent.

Best brunch in portslade by a long way. The staff are lovely, atmosphere and interior modern and cool, menu is interesting and tasty, and they serve brunch all day which is great.

Great little cafe - very clean, good service and tasty food. I had the breakfast burrito which was something new and did the job.

Our go-to café, whether for breakfast, cake, or simply their excellent coffee. The staff unfailingly make you welcome, and today was no exception. A filling, well-cooked breakfast, perfect latte at the requested extra-hot temperature, and a huge slice of delicious chocolate cake for my young granddaughter served with a smile made our visit as enjoyable as usual. Highly recommended.

The best coffee shop in Hove without question. If you want a super quick cheap cup of coffee flavoured water then you should go elsewhere because this place is all about perfectly made coffee served in a welcoming and community focussed space. Always friendly and helpful. Amazing food made freshly on the premises by quality chefs. Great vegetarian and vegan food included but for me, the homemade sausage rolls are a work of genius. Very dog friendly. Very people friendly. The nicest staff. I can’t recommend this place enough. Give it a visit, you won’t regret it.

I went to 17 Grams in Boundary Road, Hove, today with my wife and a friend. I ordered a tea for my wife, a Latte for my friend and a black coffee for myself. My wife's tea was very, very weak, my friend's Latte was well presented and my coffee was cold. As we were leaving I approached the counter and spoke to the staff. The man behind the counter turned toward me and the lady also began to listen. I said; "Can I make a suggestion? Your coffee cups are very thick and by the time I drank my coffee, after one or two minutes of it being served, it was cold." At this point, the man turned his back on me and the lady clearly, also became disinterested. However, I went on to suggest they heat the cups before expressing the coffee into them. Perhaps it was wrong of me but I was trying, without being bigheaded, to make a genuinely helpful suggestion and in my opinion they should, at least, have shown some degree of interest. Whatever they may think, I have far more knowledge of presenting a properly made coffee than either of them does. It would appear I am more aware of cutomer services, too. Their total lack of interest in what I was trying to say means I will not be revisiting any 17 Grams places in future.

Great coffee and friendly staff. We often go for cake and some staff don’t know how to cut it properly or fairly. The slices are not cut straight and then half of the slice is left on the cake plate. If you’re going to serve cake , please ensure it is cut and served evenly .

I had a tea. Fine. Though they also don't do decaf tea which is silly. I thought, I'd have the soup. Fine. Do you want bread? Odd question. Yes please. That'll be £2.20 extra. I paid. What would this bread be? Charging extra for bread with a soup. It's crazy, it must be great. It wasn't. Two dried halves of bread on the side of my soup. No butter. No love. Just there. Costing money. Bringing nothing to the party. I think that if someone pays for soup, Gove them bread. Don't be a mad establishment so keen to monitise every moment that two measly slightly stale peices of bread cost considerably extra. The soup? It was alright.

Really lovely, helpful staff, great atmosphere and food. I had the breakfast burrito and flat white with split pea milk. I'd not tried this before and was told i could exchange it if i didn't like it which was very kind of the staff. It tasted great though!

Amazing bite, chilling atmosphere and very cool decor. Very quick service too. Very inspiring. Highly recommend if you are in the area and up for a quick bite.

Expensive. £3.00 for a very small hot chocolate. Cup 3/4 full s as no it’s a small cup. Staff unfriendly. Not great at all.

Have enjoyed coffees from 17 Degrees during 2020, recently bought beans to make coffee at home. Good blend.

Great coffee, the best banana bread ever, friendly staff and a comfy and informal place to meet friends

Only recently discovered this cafe. Staff are casual yet friendly and it's always pretty packed. The coffee is a good quality even if the large cups aren't all that large. All good prices and easilly worth every penny. Only tried one of the cakes (rose and chocolate) it was so amazing I had to go back and purchase the rest... please make more of this!!!

Easily your best option for a quality cup of coffee in this area.Had an excellent cappuccino made using Allpress beans on a Marzocco machine. Good choice of healthy food options. Although we are not vegan can thoroughly recommend their vegan chocolate tiffin which went well with the coffee.

A treasure trove of vegan wonders, cake, coffee, doughnuts, pasta and croissants quite the feast. The sugar inside is frightful but the taste is so delightful.

Food and Coffee are 1st Class.My main reason for visiting The Plant Room is to enjoy a cup of coffee with my faithful companion ( A Cocker Spaniel named Jack). There are not many such venues in Brighton that allow man's best friend to sit with him while he has a coffee.Thank you to the staff for their courteous and good service. And a special thanks from Jack for the treats and large water bowl.

Are you tired? Just feeling the fatigue of the day? How about the noise of the street and roadworks smells getting to you? Come in and take care of yourself. It’s as if the whole environment of the place has been carefully chosen to soothe and refresh the nervous system. Without being flaky or overpriced. I promise no aromatherapy or resin Buddhas in sight. Privacy and blissful non-interference in many tiny zones. Come here.

I popped in for a coffee just before an interview today and was greeted by a lovely lady who was very welcoming! I ordered a latte and it tasted amazing. Definitely recommend 😃

Very nice cups of coffee, a decent cinnamon bun and a nice ambience. The staff were nice too. We will definitely be back.

I love this place, the staff are always super friendly and they’re always have some great music on. Something chilled with a bit of a beat which makes the atmosphere even more relaxed. The oat-mylk iced lattes! Heaven! I’m also a big fan of their Moroccan mint tea blend. The food is great, I’m so glad they created a lunch option - the salads are fresh and delicious and actually really fulfilling. Their vegan quiche is also exquisite. If you’re having cake, I recommend the carrot cake with the lime frosting - it’s divine and perfect to share. The chocolate, peanut butter and banana cake is also tip top.What I love about The Plant Room is that they don’t shout loudly about their vegan options, which means that those who are perhaps a little resistant to trying it feel a lot more easy breezy about doing so. But once you do try them (especially the cakes), you’re hooked, because they’re equally as delicious.It’s a lovely little cafe, try it!

Started visiting this wonderful coffee shop a year ago and now visit daily. We were originally drawn by the consistent quality of the coffee and the warmth of the staff, brilliantly led by Sophie. One year on it’s those qualities that keep us coming back.

We love this place! It’s our go to place for delicious salads and food. Perfect vegan options including cakes to die for! All the staff are really lovely too. Kid friendly too.

Amazing coffee, really nice local food, great music, relaxed atmosphere and very welcoming staff, whoever is running this has got the balance just right. Also the manager (I think Sophie) has the perfect hospitable balance that so many people seem to miss, welcoming, warm, great with a chat but isn’t pushy, she reads the room and customers very well, people like her, make a place feel like a home away from home, and glue it all together, a truly lovely asset to the place.

I called in for a coffee after a meeting. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is excellent (I highly recommend the cheese scones). I have no hesitation in recommending here to anyone who wants a place where you don’t feel rushed and have the chance to catch up with friends over excellent coffee.

Nowadays the plant room have their own vegan chef and they have a much wider range of vegan food and snacks. Today I had a delicious bean, mint & courgette salad. Snackwise the rose and raspberry muffins are amazing <3 Great coffee, and friendly helpful and funny staff - special mention to Sophie and Dan who are ace.

Now my "local" (despite the 2 mile daily hike) and a pleasure to drink the world`s greatest oat flat white! Savouries and cakes scrumptious. Staff genuinely amiable and welcoming. No question - The Plant Room on Boundary Road is doing everything right.

This place is amazing. I was so happy when they opened last year. Getting a good latte on the way to work is an essential morning ritual for me and finding great coffee not so easy!

This place is a real gem. I pop in daily for one of the best long blacks in town. The staff (Sophie & Dan 10/10) are exceptionally delightful, friendly and very knowledgeable about the coffee they take so much care to create and serve.

I visited this cafe for the first time yesterday and was very impressed with the quality of its food and service. There were lots of different tartlets and tasty savoury things, a couple of salads (the panzanella salad was divine) and the coffee was excellent. The service was very friendly, informative and efficient.

Regularly walk the wrong way to work to grab a coffee from here!

I visit this place as often as possible as not only is the coffee excellent the staff are always so friendly and the food is always fresh and yummy. It’s dog and baby friendly and a perfect place for me too visit. Before a trip too the park :) The coffee hands down beats any other around and that’s coming from someone who lives in coffee shops!! Awesome work guys xxx

My friend and I come every Monday for Coffee and a catch up. We look forward to coming all week. Sophie and the guys are always friendly and greet us by name. The quality of the coffee is amazing and the best I’ve tried.

The coffee is consistently excellent and the staff are lovely. Crisp modern design, comfy sofas and a good choice in music. We love the salads too. And our dog Greta always gets a brilliant welcome, some water and a biscuit.

The coffee and food at The Plant Room is consistently of a very high standard. The vegan savouries and cakes are really tasty and there’s a lots to choose from.

Such a lovely place to catch up with friends. The service is top notch, even though she was by herself, didn’t catch her name but we came on Monday 12th March at 1pm thank you for your help and great service. Will be a regular spot for us! Keep up the good work!

These days Portslade Boundary Road has become a rather sad retail destination. Despite that a jewel in the area has to be this super cafe. Stylishly decorated its small but comfortable and seems to be gathering a growing legion of fans. The coffee is one of the best I have had in a long time and it has a great selection of pastries and cakes. Some have commented on service. Its 'chilled' - this isnt Starbucks. Ive never had any issue with service - its been polite and prompt. It deserves to do well, and has a nice seating area outside if you are into bus spotting! It deserves to prosper and frankly qhy bother trapsing into Brighton when this is round the corner.

We live locally but hadn't visited The Plant Room before. Laid back atmosphere and staff, and very clean and well presented. Good coffee and pastries but let down by the casual service. Our drinks came promptly but ten minutes later there was no sign of our pastries and we had to go and ask for them. There were two staff and only one other customer in the cafe so new excuse. Given the growing competition locally The Plant Room needs to do better with its customer service.

Since this opened the other month I have visited a fair few times and I have to admit it’s fast becoming my favourite place. The selections of cakes are a must try.
