Four of us enjoyed a superb lunch at this cosy, nicely decorated pub. The food was excellent, very tasty & well presented. We were greeted very nicely & the staff were so friendly & could not do enough to make our visit special. It was our friends Birthday & they kindly lit a candle with her dessert & we all sang. We will ALL definitely be back, our first visit & we were all very impressed.

We visited this lovely bright newly opened pub yesterday. And wow I can honestly say that was THE best Sunday lunch roast beef I’ve ever had in a pub!!!! The yorkie was perched atop a beautifully presented plate of food The beef perfectly pink and thickishly sliced. Red cabbage and cauliflower cheese divine. The Roasties could have perhaps been a lil but crunchier and more golden, the parsnips/carrots/green beans just needed a bit more loving. My date had the haloumi burger and rated it as delicious and filling! We watched the food come out of the kitchen, plates and plates of Sunday roasts waiters balancing the glorious Yorkies. ALL the staff were so lovely and perfectly attentive We’ve just found our new favourite pub!

We live locally to the Piltdown Man and decided to take an evening walk and test out the new menu. We were not disappointed! We sat in the gazebo as it was a warm evening. When it started to cool down, the patio heaters worked wonders. Service was attentive and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu is varied and offers something for everyone. My family really fancied the curry, whereas, I had my eye on the duck. Both were absolutely delicious. My duck was cooked beautifully, the fondant potato melted in your mouth and the red cabbage and celery purée complimented perfectly. The only tiny thing I would change if I could, would be to be able to run a tab when sitting outside. However, I do really understand why this decision was made and it definitely wouldn’t stop us coming back. It is so refreshing to have the pub open again, we feel the management have done a fantastic job bringing it back to life and we’re looking forward to many more evenings at The Piltdown Man.

Definitely worth checking out this gem of a pub if you’re in the area. Cozy vibes, tasty food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stay for "Just one more”. We had a burger and fish & Chips from the Pub Grub menu, fish and chips were crispy, and the burger was juicy. An afternoon well spent with a few drinks in the garden. We will visit again soon..

Knowing that the pub had recently re-opened, we stopped en route back from a walk on the forest for some drinks. There was a good selection of beers, including some local ones which I hope they keep! The kids area was great with a good number of benches in close proximity so we could keep an eye on them. There was a new covered outdoor area which looked nice and the courtyard was very pretty. We didn’t eat but saw some meals going past and they looked very tasty. It’s great to see it the pub open again!

Nice venue, great staff, food was good as well. Disappointed that every single time we ordered something we had to continually pay before hand (as we are outside). Not to be trusted once is acceptable, but to pay 4 times during just one lunch session is not a great experience.

Knowing the pub had recently reopened under new management, my friends and I thought we'd give it a go. We had a really lovely evening. Service was excellent - the waiter was attentive but didn't make us feel rushed at all. When ordering my friend asked to remove one element from the dish and the staff were very quick to offer a suitable replacement which was very kind. My meal was good, I would particularly recommend the calamari. We sat inside as it was night-time but the play area outside looked great too. We will return with the children for sure! Thank you

Three generations booked for a Saturday family breakfast, there were eight of us including two young children, we were warmly welcomed by the landlady and she found some colouring pencils and paper for the children. The adults all had the full English which was very good value at 10.95 including a drink. the sausages are delicious and the bacon thick cut and not overcooked. There other lighter items on the menu and they also have vegan options. The children get to choose 3 elements to make up their breakfasts. The pub is very well kept, plenty of parking, seating both inside (log fire in the winter) and out and there is a play area for children though we didn't use it on this occasion due to the weather. Lunches are excellent too.

Lunch with my son today, first impressions a lovely, clean, well kept pub. The landlady is friendly and the food was excellent. I had the curry which was very tasty and my son had the beer fondue followed by the chicken burger with wedges. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and he loved the hofmeister beer. We would definitely go again. Fully recommend it.

Just stopped by after seeing their sign. Best thing I have done all week. The breakfast they served was perfectly cooked and very well presented. Every thing was freshly cooked and served piping hot. Well done. I will bring my family for supper when my birthday comes round next month.

We stayed a night in the garden room at the Piltdown Man. It was nicely done out, clean, modern, comfy and well stocked. It did need the oil heaters as it was cold but the electric blanket was toasty. We popped into the pub and got some fresh milk for tea and had a drink. Nice local beer, friendly staff, a real fire. But so quiet, and a bit cold. Didn’t have the nice cosy pub atmosphere of a well loved loca. Lovely decor, I hope they do well.

Three ladies and a bloke We were not impressed with the decor of this pub in the A272. It was somewhat on the industrial side, the first comment being that it seemed more like a canteen than a pub. This may be OK for summer, but would not necessarily be cosy enough for winter. There were no decorations on the table, such as flowers or candles and from our table, there was a view of a bucket and bowl behind the bar area, which could easily have been screened off. However, the food was excellent, though served on cold plates. The service was cheerful and helpful and as we went on a Friday evening which was Fryday fish night with a buy one get one half price offer, the food was very good value. There was lots of parking space, but no lighting for when we left in the dark. If you are looking for very good, tasty, good value food, then this is the place to go, but we prefer a different ambience.

Having left Sheffield Park Gardens around 2pm and finding the nearest pub at Fletcling full, our friends and I thought we may have left it too late to find a pub lunch. But the lovely lady a couple of miles from the gardens in The Piltdown Man welcomed us. In addition to a most thirst quenching pint of ale the. fish and chips was delicious.. The service was good and the friendly (American?) lady who provided it kindly took photos of our group for us - old friends meeting up for the first time in nearly 20 years. And ( unlike the previous pub we tried) parking was plentiful and easy - I’d recommend it.

When we arrived at lunch time on a Wednesday, only one other table was taken. We were shown a table to sit at and given menus. I didn't time the wait but it must have been between 10 and 15 minutes before the waitress returned to take our drinks order. From then on things improved and the wait for food was not too long . The food was fine, no problems there. When I went to pay the bill, we had been charged £6.47 for service. Not being one to complain and not wanting to cause embarrassment to our guest, I paid and we left. Having thought about this, I am really irritated at this sharp practice, as, quite honestly, it is theft. They are relying on people's reluctance to refuse to pay this charge and, no doubt, get away with it most of the time. Finally, as an avid viewer of The Hotel Inspector, I am amazed that the front of the pub, facing the A272 is so shabby. It really does look as if the place is shut!

Couldn't fault anything the food was delicious, really nice feel to the place and the young blonde waitress (apologies I forgot her name) was excellent. If you're bored of the overrated Highlands in Uckfield the Piltdown Man is well worth a trip

We visited the Boar's Head Inn at Crowborough today (19/6/24) for a Wake following the funeral of a dear friend. We were absolutely amazed at the wonderful spread that was provided. Both hot and cold food. Well presented and attentive service. Excellent! I’ve been to this place a few times now, when flying to and from Gatwick Airport. I’ve always been impressed by the staffs politeness and courtesy, going that extra mile. They are very dog friendly with treats at the bar, and water bowls provided. There has been a hansom, well behaved, and affectionate Australian kelpie dog there on a few of my visits. The rooms are reasonably priced have been consistently clean, tidy and comfortable during my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend The Plough Inn to any other traveller or patron.
