Really lovely cafe, super friendly welcome from the staff and regulars alike. The freshly baked scones were, according to J, "top tier". Will definitely come back to try our the breakfasts. Only comment would be that a plant based milk on offer would be great for the vegans/lactose intolerant.

We called in to the pillar box cafe on a Saturday morning had a pot for tea and homemade cheese scones, which was delicious. Then the following Wednesday we called in and had the same because we were looking at the possibility of moving to Haltwhistle. The owners of the cafe are very kind and friendly. We felt as though we had come home. Haltwhistle has all you need including a outdoor swimming pool( April to September). We hope and pray God will watch over you all.

From the look of it from the outside (and the inside !) not the sort of place I would normally frequent. But having looked at the reviews we decided to give it a go on a very cold December day. What can I say ? Friendly and helpful staff plus excellent coffee and all-day beakfast for 3 of us ! Only moan was that breakfast was served on cold plates. Maybe trying to save gaa/electricity !! But will call again next time in Haltwhistle.

Stopped in Haltwhistle , which claims to be the centre of Britain, for a coffee whilst on our travels The cappuccinos we had were very nice but there was no real atmosphere and only one toilet I can understand the locals enjoying it here as they do have a reasonable menu

On first walking into the cafe, it looks a bit dated however the coffee was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff were lovely and friendly.I'd rather sit in slightly dated surroundings drinking nice inexpensive coffee than paying a big chain coffee shop for their expensive decor.

This place was recommended to us by friends so we dropped in for a late lunch. Menu is very traditional so nothing unusual, especially for vegetarians, but food is good, with plenty on the plate. Called in with friends for a coffee, tea & coffee was nice enough. Young guy who served us was pleasant and friendly. We had cake it didn't feel that fresh to be honest and when I asked how old scones were and if they were fresh I was told they had been there a few days, which really put me off as scones are best had the same day. I don't think I would go out of my way to go back but was all right.

We planned breakfast at The Sill as the menu looked good, but left as the only things they had available were bacon, sausage and eggs (fried or scrambled but not, for some reason, poached) and offered a poor, grunted explanation but no apology. The Pillar Box, by contrast, was welcoming, friendly, buzzing with warmth and life and provided an enjoyable full breakfast, very reasonably priced. And unlike the Sill, we didn't have to pay for parking.

Really lovely food , I had the leek and potato soup and chips, the soup was delicious really tasted of leek which is often not the case with leek and potato soup and the chips were proper chips!!! How exciting is that?! My husband had the quiche which was equally delicious and tasted very fresh! We had puddings which were also wonderful. Can't fault anything. By far the most welcoming cafe in haltwhistle! Really lovely would recommend to anyone!

This is a lovely little cafe, we went for an all day breakfast, but I think we caught them on a bad day. The food was very nice, however we had to wait about 50 minutes for the food to arrive at our table, having watched it arrive at varying stages to the cafe. I don't want to paint a bad picture of this place as it was lovely and there were 10 of us arrive at the same time, but if you're offering an all day breakfast, it's probably a good idea to have your kitchen stocked with some bacon and eggs. It was a rainy Saturday and as the rest of Haltwhistle shut down from mid day, nothing was spoiling.

We walked in to Haltwhistle along the old disused railway from the carpark at Coanwood (about 4.5 miles), which is not far from the fantastic Lambley Viaduct. Haltwhistle is an interesting town with a quirky signal box at the town's railway station. There are several Cafe/Restaurants/Pubs in the main area of the town and a post office, small supermarket etc, etc.

My cousin and I were hugely impressed by Castaways. I had been reluctant to go because about 20 years ago the original café had been taken over by a useless couple. But when I passed and looked in, I could see that its original atmosphere had been recreated by the current management. Our reception was very friendly. The café was full (always a good sign) and we were third in the queue. Our table was soon ready and we were seatedby a waitress. We were very comfortable and the atmosphere was nice. Many pleasant people there as customers happily dining and chatting. Good choice of food and drink. I had the traditional breakfast and my cousin had… I think it was avocado and egg on sourdough bread. We were both very content with our lunch. I will certainly return and bring members of my family to enjoy castaways. Nicely sited, easy car parking and great views over Seaton Sluice and the sea. Get yourself along there and have a treat!

Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.
