I loved this pub. We walked from Salcombe and it was well worth it (don't worry, you can drive there too). It had the feel of a genuine pub with some good beers that happened to do great food also. I had possibly the best burger I have had in a long time and my wife had a fantastic steak sandwich. Both were freshly prepared scratch. They have vegan options too. I notice some negative reviews, mostly due to poor service. We arrived at 12 noon on a weekday in October. Even so, the place was full by the time we left, so it is clearly a popular place. The service we experienced was without fault. I hope our experience is the norm.

We had lunch here as we were exploring the area. We were greeted warmly by Jono and given a table. My husband chose the Spanish twist fish pie. It was so tasty he asked for the recipe. The best fish pie he’s ever had! I ordered a fish finger sandwich- crunchy fish gougons on rocket, radicchio and pea shoot leaves on a beautiful tartare sauce freshly made with dill - all on a slice of toasted granary bread. It was so good! Can’t recommend highly enough!

We were staying in East Prawle and had the pub on our doorstep. We loved the quirky style, it had a great atmosphere and cosy feel. The service from all staff was very good, we had our young daughter with us who made it testing at times but you were all really accommodating. We visited twice during our stay, the food was excellent and offered something different to other pubs in the area. We really enjoyed the scotch egg and crevettes starters, mains the lamb rump special, plaice, the market fish of the day and burger were delicious. Our daughter was also offered a good selection of children's meals, which she enjoyed. We loved the pub overall, you have it just right, price wise I feel it is reasonable for the quality you receive.

as ever, the pubs quirkiness is it's saving grace, but having been local for many years, I was shocked at the limited, pricey menu, with no options for children. I asked at the bar and got a verbal list of what they could offer, which I had to remember and repeat to the kids. We had two kids chicken gougons and chips (literally two pieces and about twenty chips, and two burgers, a pint, a pint of coke and two small lemonades...came to nearly £70. The cutlery was dirty, our table booking wasn't on the system. The website advertised pizzas, which were not available and why the kids had chosen to go there, which was half an hours drive.

Quirky pub close to the south west coastal path. Superb food, absolutely delicious ham hock scotch egg with a lovely ploughman's. Very good fish and chips. Sure the rest of the menu will be excellent too.

We visited on our way back from a day out for a coastal walk. The staff were friendly but we wouldn't return as it was massively overpriced. £18 for a very average fish and chips with little taste and more batter than fish. The triple cooked chips were nice. Over £8 for a large wine which didn't taste that good and £6.50 for a guinness. I suspect the wine was from a bottle that costs about £6 to buy in a shop. Then we found out on paying that we were automatically charged £4 for service! When I queried it I was told most restaurants do it now. This is not a resturant but a pub with very average pub food. I've never experienced this in a pub before and would have thought the steep price of the food to begin with would include service! Also the seats were very uncomfortable. If you go here expect average food at rip off tourist prices as there are lots of campers in the area and this being the only place nearby for them.

We had high hopes. The pub was busy for lunch and we had booked a table in the covered area outside. There was one person behind the bar and about 10 people waiting, we were also told by the single waiting staff that we had to queue again to mKe our order because they didn’t have time to take orders at the table. We ordered (eventually) and sat at our table in a very unappealing outside covered area. Two table there had ordered after us but got their food before us. When we raised this with the waiter (in case they had missed our order), he was not apologetic and very dismissive. He told us that different food takes different time to cook (despite the fact that we had ordered mussels which the other tables had ordered too). He then came back and told us that we’d ordered half an hour before and that was not a problem. Not necessarily untrue, but not very smart or friendly either. When the food came the mussels were cold and the kids burgers were pretty awful. I tried to go and get another drink at the bar and gave up - the queue was just too much. We found out subsequently that they had had a big party the night before and a local suggested that most of the staff were a bit hungover so not many had turned up to work. I’ve no idea whether this is true. I wonder whether our waiter was just annoyed at having to work on his own - fair enough, but surely his irritation should be directed at the management rather than customers? Sadly we couldn’t recommend it.

Where does one begin? I rarely write reviews, but my recent experience at The Pig's Nose Inn compels me to share my utter disappointment with an establishment that seems to have no common decency to treat customers with respect. Having read numerous positive reviews along with the odd bad review, prior to our visit, our expectations were high, but unfortunately, they were not met. The service was very slow and we worked out that they were incredibly understaffed. We were eventually shown to our table and handed some menus. This is where the issues began. We waited and waited before anyone came to take our orders. It seems that there were only two individuals serving but at the end of the day, this is down to poor management and not the customer's problem. When we finally received our food, only some of it I must add, it took an additional 30 minutes for the remaining pizzas to be brought out. We were informed that there was a wait on the pizzas which we accepted, however, when they finally arrived they were the wrong pizzas and so we politely sent them back for the pizzas we had actually ordered. Any competent restaurant/pub would have apologised for the mix up and would have corrected the error, however, this was not the case at all. After waiting ANOTHER 20 minutes for our final pizzas, we then brought it to the attention of the staff that we were still waiting. They were curt and uninterested in resolving the issue as they then proceeded to accuse us of sending back the order. Of course we did, the order was wrong! After explaining twice to the staff that they had got the order wrong, it was only now that they acknowledged they had made a mistake and said they would make the order again. We were a party of 6 and 4 of us had already been given our food and had finished. Needless to say, we had had enough and we asked the server to cancel the remaining two pizzas and just give us the bill so we could leave. Well what can I say, the next episode in this story will shock any sound minded person. Another patron walked in, clearly frustrated as they had been waiting a very long time to be seated. The server then proceeded to announce to the entire bar/restaurant that "sorry sir, this man is very cross with me and if I speak to you he'll be even more cross with me, so you'll have to bear with me". This gentleman was shocked and told me he felt that he had been told off for asking a simple question regarding the table he had booked. He then walked straight out which says it all quite frankly. For a local pub, they should be appalled at the level of service, and the management should very quickly get down from their delusional high horse that this establishment is at most an adequate facility to serve paying customers. All in all, the food we did mange to eat was nice, however, would we recommend this to anyone? Absolutely not. The staff are disrespectful and rude. I will leave you to decide on one of many other eateries to spend your time and money.

Sadly had an awful meal here for my sister in law’s 30th birthday. We waited almost 2 hours for any food to arrive (and it didn’t arrive at the same time), the food was disappointing and we were sat under a speaker blaring music the whole time. Three of the party (big ale drinkers) ordered a pint that was off too, only to be told by the waitress there’s nothing wrong with the beer (there definitely was). I did feel sorry for the staff as they were clearly understaffed and receiving lots of complaints, but if this was the case, the pub should have not taken orders and definitely not still charged us full price for such a poor experience. It’s a good pub for a pint (so long as it’s not off) but would definitely not recommend it for food after our experience and ruining a 30th birthday celebration.

Great reasonably priced food at a friendly little pub. We used the pigs nose inn a few times on our holiday to south Prawle and it was a nice change from cooking in our self catering holiday let. The pub staff were helpful and friendly and it was a welcome sight for some food and a cold beer after a long coastal walk. Pizzas were really good and myself and my son loved the onion rings! We didn’t eat off the pub menu just from the pizza / burger bar so can’t comment on the pub food.

We have used the Pigs Nose many times over the years and had some positive experiences. This was our first visit in a while, we were staying at Prawle Point so it seemed silly not to pop in. So it would appear there is now an addition to their offering bolted on to the side of the building serving Pizza/ Chicken/ Hot Dogs and Supposedly Alcohol. We sat outside as the weather was good so we wanted to take in the sunset whilst sipping on a cold one. I approached the NEW bar/food area and was ignored for a good 5 minutes before I was asked what i wanted. When I asked for a drink I was told that they were far too busy to serve drinks at this outlet and that I needed to go inside so that’s what I did… Blimey, how things have changed. The pub was chaos…. Busy is good but not when you have 1 member of staff serving drinks on a Friday night when the place is rammed to the rafters. There was no method to the madness and to make matters worse I clocked a number of regulars walk in,walk to the end of the bar and get served immediately by some random person who was wondering aimlessly behind the bar. 20 minutes later we managed to score our round, phew! Back outside I went…. Whilst enjoying my Scrumpy I decide to order some truffle fries…. This proved to be yet another painful experience… the same aloof guy who told me to go inside for my drink allowed me to stand there for a good five minutes twiddling my thumbs before he acknowledged my existence. I ordered my £6 bowl of fries and was given a pager…. 25 minutes passed by which point my wife and children had pretty much polished off their drinks with no wish for more whilst i was still in limbo hankering after the fried potatoes… when my patience finally ran out i took my pager back and requested a refund only to be told my food was on the way…. Not… The Pigs Nose was the go to place whenever in Prawle. I have no clue what’s changed but it is fair to say it’s a total joke and I definitely won’t be going back…. Whatever they are trying to do it ain’t working.

This pub must have changed hands recently as our experience was appalling for food and drinks. 2hours for pizza is unacceptable, long waits at the bar. Landlady not interested. Booked well in advance, arrived and given our table, food was traditional pub food ok at best, staff were rushed of there feet the I had to ask for condiments, nobody checked on us about the meal, had to ask for extra drinks, waited about 25 mins after finishing main for me to attract waiter/waitress to clear plates then ask again for desert menu, bit confusing with menu's as 2 different menu's circulating around tables with different things on. For example the fratata was cheddar on one menu and described on another as Goats cheese? On desert menu cheese board on another no cheeseboard.Advice to manager attract more staff , make staff aware to check on customer's more often , replenish condiments as required and sort out the menu confusion.Ian

There seemed to be no attention to COVID distancing which led to us feeling uncomfortable. No wonder they take your credit off of you prior to ordering.

I won't go through the litany of cock ups that we and most of the other guests in the place experienced tonight. I'm tired and hungry. We gave up and left with no food having passed our lips in the nearly 2 hrs we were there. A real shame as the place itself is pretty cool and we'd travelled 40mins to get there. The continual stream of 'staffing problems' this, 'other pubs have closed but we are martyrs to the lockdown easing cause so we should be given a break' and 'it used to work fine when people just came and ordered at the bar' being offered up as excuses by the owner/manager as she and everyone else did the headless chicken act, was embarrassing to witness. I fear she will keep telling herself that rather than fix it. The tried and tested hospitality organisational approaches were completely lacking here and responsible for 90% of the problem.Avoid this place at least until table service isn't mandated by the government. Sadly we won't be back, ever.

7 hours agoNEWLet's put this simply.Booked in 2 months in advanced for our party of six people.Table booked for 1800hrs and we arrived at 1755hrs. We are a very polite and quiet family, two adults, kids 8 & 3 and grand parents. I have been here before so knew the surrounds and as people say "quirky" atmosphere. So as the explanation of Quirky says it is characterized by peculiar or unexpected traits or aspects. What happened next was completely unexpected!Had to ask serveral times for menu, was told none were available due to being busy the day before.Drink and food order taken at 1830, 30min wait. Drinks arrived at 1900hrs, 1hr since sitting down! . Complete void for next 45min, food arrived apart from mine. My father in laws was a kids portion? . No cutlery given, we ate food with our fingers before it finally arrived. Our waitress, who I presume was in a managerial role was very understanding, I take her points on staffing issues. She refunded our meal. Unfortunately the experience was ruined. What could have been a great informal meal in potential good surroundings wasn't a nice experience. If you can't cater for bank holidays then don't try to bluff it, it doesn't work. To many punters, not enough staff. Being a key worker within the Emergency services it was also disappointing to see covid rules completely not being adhered to. Table service does not exist here, people were walking in from outside and taking out drinks, by themselves. No body taking track and trace details and no one enforcing it.Ultimately this is pub that is great for a drink and adhoc meal. If your aiming for the holiday period and have kids in tow, it may be great, or it may be a complete failure. I've had a great time at this pub, but now I've had a bad time. Your choice, just giving you a heads up.

Lovely, quirky, old school pub - the kind you dream of and rarely find. Turned up ad hoc, just after indoor dining restrictions had been lifted. The team appeared to be utterly overwhelmed by the volume of customers, however when the food finally appeared it was delicious. A real surprise, not least because the menu LOOKS really uninspiring. Fish and chips was gorgeous - a good fillet of really fresh cod, perfectly cooked in a delicious batter, with proper crispy chips, and a generous ploughmans. Set us up for a long walk, and we'd definitely be back. Just hope by then they'll have got their heads around how to handle so many thirsty/ hungry post lockdown punters.

When I walked through the door I thought I was in the Slaughtered Lamb in American Werewolf in London. It was Sunday lunch and the pub was full of locals who stared at us as we walked in. Even had a Brian Glover lookalike in the corner. Don’t let that put you off. The atmosphere was great, everyone was friendly and the staff were excellent. They have a limited menu for Sunday lunch but the food was awesome. Great nut roast for the veggie in the party and a superb roast beef dinner for the carnivores. I’ve never counted myself a fan of parsnips, but the parsnip soup to start was really good. They don’t stint on the portion sizes, but we squeezed in a pudding. Crimble crumble, lovely. Real disappointment. Menu was not as advertised, not even any pies available! Had to wait an hour and a half for food to arrive, when I questioned this I was told “you ordered at a busy time, we’ve had over 100 orders in the last hour”. Which I didn’t have a problem with, it just would have been nice to have been told there would be a wait when ordering food. Food was very average at best, ordered a bacon and cheese burger, wasn’t any cheese in it, but at this point I’d waited so long and was too hungry to complain! A real shame, as the location is great and there was a good atmosphere on the grass outside, but I wouldn’t come back unfortunately.

What a return. Not sure of the welcome during this pandemic, but felt really at home and the pub and staff made us very welcome.Having travelled down from Suffolk, looking forward to a well earnt pint, the COVID restrictions on offer ensured we felt totally safe. These are very extreme times and although 'normal' service is very difficult, this place manages very well. Those writing negative reviews must surely live in a Snowflake World not affected by the largest pandemic to hit the world since the black death. Not sure anyone would have travelled to East Prawle in those days.If you, and your family, are in the area - just drop in.The beer and ciders are served well and the food served is good English pub grub, except for the curries which of course are Indian. For those of us who have always holidayed in the UK, this is the quientensential British pub, chat to the locals and above all respect the staff. Visited the pub on a recent family holiday. We were staying in East Prawle so thought we’d give it a go as the only pub in the village and seeing long queues outside most days. At first glance inside the pub it looked ok and although they could not find our booking we were seated quickly in a family area near the kitchen. The menu was basic pub grub but that was fine given the current COVID situation. We ordered at the bar and sat down. Once seated however I realised how filthy everything was which was quite unnerving and I spent the entire time telling my kids not to touch anything and sanitising constantly!!! Why has the pub not been deep cleaned over lockdown? There were layers of dust on everything and grimy stains on the furnishings. We had to wait for up to an hour for our food and could hear the kitchen staff constantly saying they were running out of food items which wasn’t very professional. Eventually our food arrived in cardboard takeout boxes and cutlery despite eating in. No napkins or condiments were available or offered. The food was Horrendous and inedible. It was the worst meal I’ve ever had. We quickly ate what we could and left wishing we had never bothered. It’s such a shame as the pub could be lovely as it’s in a fantastic location. I don’t understand why plates or proper cutlery are not provided if you are eating in. Cost nearly £50 for 2 adults and 2 children for absolute rubbish. We then went to the Bear and Blacksmith in Chillington the following night and for £40 (Help from Boris) had one of the best meals I’ve ever had in such a lovely clean pub on proper plates. It just shows you that some places are really trying their best and others just don’t seem to have a clue. The contrast was shocking. Would avoid Pigs Nose Inn like the plague. Only giving 1 star because I can’t give no stars or minus stars.

This place clearly looks like so much fun and has all the potential to be brilliant! But unfortunately we had an absolutely terrible experience. The waiting staff were lovely, very kind & apologetic when necessary but it seemed no-one was in charge, there was no communication & no system that worked. 25 mins after ordered food told they had run out of our order, given only three options. Table next to us had been waiting 1hrs 15 min for 4 portions of scampi and chips. Waiting staff weren't sure which table to deliver the food. Other tables outside that hadn't booked got their food first. After 50 mins we enquired where our food was, the person never came back to tell us what was happening. When we went up to the bar they said 5 min wait, which turned to 20 mins. After asking a third time the food arrived 1hr 30 mins after ordering. Peas undercooked sitting in water. Food was ok but just chips and scampi in a box. The toilets were incredibly dirty. No atmosphere inside just a few unhappy groups, we had a laugh about it all together. Worst visit to a pub in ages...I don't recommend it and I don't plan to return. I was looking forward to visiting the pub after reading about it and also being recommended it by someone we knew. The pub was grubby and dated. There were about 10 main items on the menu but by 7:30pm there were only 4 items still remaining. We ordered the food and was seated in a large barn area that had no atmosphere and probably hadn't been cleaned in a decade. We weren't warned that there was a wait on food at all, if we had then of course we would have been able to be more understanding. We waited for 40 minutes before being told one of the mains had run out. We then had to keep visiting the bar to ask about the order. Every time we asked , we were told another 5-10 minutes and then 20 minutes later still no sign of food. We waited an hour and a half before the mains arrived which were in takeout box (even though we had booked to sit in). The food was average but at least it was hot. There didn't seem to be anyone managing. The staff were polite and accommodating but there was a lack of communication. It was a very disappointing experience.

When our camper broke down I could not believe the kindness of the sisters who work here - Naomi walked to the other side of the village to show me and my two small children the way to the pub and her sister Lydia helped keep said littlies entertained for the 2.5 hours I was there, even lending me her mobile to call my husband as I had no reception! The kids had a lovely portion of scampi and I had a tasty chicken burger and a much needed cold beer! I imagine this pub is not everyone's cup of tea but it is friendly, eccentric and well worth a visit. I would not have wanted to be stuck anywhere else!

So we knew the pub would be a bit different at the mo but seems they’re coping well. The outside food service works really well - maybe worth keeping for busy days? Lovely to see familiar faces but missed my natter and catchIng up on local gossip with folks at the bar. Hopefully next time we can get back to the usual Pig’s Nose bonhomie but in the meantime please do go support them, this pub is an absolute gem. Sunset subject to availability... Keep up the good work Joss!

This place is marmite for me really; I love it or hate it. On the plus side; it’s quirky, friendly, one of a kind and obviously attracts people time after time. On the negative side; it’s a bit grubby, the food is a bit meh, the bar staff are lovely but were a bit tiddled I think and our food took ages to come. Given the covid situation I think they’re doing their best but I think if you’ve got a table, there should be a separate queue. To have to queue outside once you’re seated for both food and drinks is a bit nonsensical. Will probably go back but would like the whole place to be deep cleaned .... I guess that’s all part of it though

Recently visited from Australia after seeing on google earth. Had a challange with friends back home to find best pub in the areas we visited. We won hands down. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming albiet like somewhere out of a movie, no werewolves but dogs. The beer was great got a taste for the Otter , the food was as expected from a local pub, basic and fantastic no frills. The service was great and very welcoming. Would not mind been a local in the pub and go every night. As writing this I know you are now in lockdown but I wish you and the staff all the best and hope to visit again when back in England. Take care and stay safe.

Loved the location of the pub, loved the look and feel of the pub. Its undoubtedly a credit to East Devon and East Prawl itself as a watering hole.I would have loved to have gone back, but sadly after the rather aloof welcome we received and then the very disappointing meal we both had, sadly I doubt we will.We made our way over for one of the venues band nights that are put on in the adjoining building. We camped at the nearby campsite (not run by the PIGS NOSE INN) and then we popped into the pub to get a drink amd to find out about the nights proceedings where we were coldly welcomed. Upon going back for dinner later on, we were served what was a glorified school dinner at best. Though the pies themselves (PIEMINSTER) were of good quality, sadly thats where it ended. Gutted to have had to part with money for such poor food. Whilst I appreciate that it was a busy night at a busy time of year, I do not think there is a good reason that the food could not be served to a higher standard considering the simplicity of the meals. The pub itself is quirky, intriguing, colourful and wonderful. Like no other frankly. But I would only ever go back for drinks and I would hope to receive a warmer welcome next time.

This was my second visit, this time with my wife, my Australian -based brother and his wife. On an earlier occasion when undertaking ancestor research, we bumped into a member of the Distin family, two of whom lost their lives in the Salcombe lifeboat disaster of 1916. Another Distin survived and went on to serve aboard the lifeboat's replacement for over 20 years as the coxwain, a role his father had filled on the earlier, ill-fated craft. On this second visit, unlike the first, we were made to feel most welcome by the very engaging staff, and the food and ales were spot on. The pub's interior is a feast for the eyes, with much of interest, including an old photograph of an earlier Distin , who used to be the ferryman, operating across the Salcombe estuary in the late 19th century. This crossing avoided a long, 12 mile journey from East Portlemouth, up to Kingsbridge at the head of the estuary, before turning South-west down to Salcombe proper. There was a lovely crowd whilst we were there, with lots of dogs resting from their exhilarating walks along this impressive coast, a welcome respite from the beading winds. Highly recommended.

We have been to the Pigs Nose a few times for drinks and event nights. It's got a lovely, busy quirky feel and you're guaranteed a great night at their music events. However, our trip this time round was tainted by a really unpleasant interaction with the landlady, which would put me off ordering food here again. We ordered our meals on a busy Sunday evening but waited over an hour for food to arrive. The bar and& kitchen staff were working hard, and were warm and apologetic. When our food did arrive, a starter costing £6.50 consisted of 3 small thin squares of overcooked halloumi on some leaves, no dressing. We fed back to the front of house staff that this seemed unreasonable, to be charged nearly seven quid for such a tiny portion. The kitchen staff kindly offered to get some extra halloumi, however at this point the landlady marched over to our table and loudly said, "I'm not having that" and that she felt it was an adequate amount. We said calmly we thought this was unreasonable. She loudly said "Take it or leave it". This was very embarrassing & uncomfortable on a terrace full of diners. No extra portions or a refund was offered. All in all really awful, rude customer service. Such a shame because we've always had a great time here in the past.

I telephoned The Pigs Nose early afternoon on saturday 17th and tried to book a table for 2 for evening meal...was told that they do not take bookings for parties less than 10people was told to turn up and that we should get seated. We decided to arrive early so got there at around 6.30pm.Pub was busy with quite a few people inside and out.No tables available but we were shown into the snug and told that they would come and get us when table which they did but our table was then taken by another group before we got to it so back to the snug for a further 15minute wait, again we were told a table was available, got to table sat down only to be approached by a lady stating that it was her table and she had not finished with it???so again here we are without a table...we were then offered a table next to the pool table which was pretty unsuitable to eat dinner off.We decided at this point that we would give up on our attempt to eat at the Pigs Nose, paid our bar bill which to be fair the host offered to settle for us given how we had been messed about....The lady host was very nice and did apologise. We left went straight to the Church House Inn were very lucky to get a walk in table and enjoyed a fantastic meal.We were disappointed at The Pigs Nose because a friend recommended this place and we very much wanted to try it out.It seems we picked a bad time.Thank you to the friendly lady host however after our experience I doubt we will return. We also noticed tables had been"reserved" for smaller groups.as sometables had "reserved" signs onSorry.I really do not like leaving negative reviews however our experience at The Pigs Nose i'm sorry to say was pretty unprofessional given that to get to it you have to drive quite a way off the beaten track.

We arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday, having been told to come then to ensure a seat as they get busy. This was after a ten minute wait the previous afternoon for someone to appear at the bar. We asked for a menu and were then told the menu doesn't go up until 6.30 and we could order then. So we ordered a drink (no problems there) and waited as the pub began to fill up around us. When the menu arrived (a blackboard) at 6.35pm, there was a mad rush with people surrounding it and grabbing the cardboard pie list. We then had a 10 minute wait at the bar to order food. The wait wasn't too long but we were feeling a bit stressed with the whole set up. Our food arrived about 7.15 and sadly it wasn't good. We weren't expecting gastro pub but the battered cod I had was pretty awful. It looked good and it was a large portion, but the fish was watery and the batter very greasy. It was also super hot inside, I burnt my tongue on the fish and had cut it to cool and eaten some chips first. I'm guessing it was microwaved before being deep fried. My partner had a burger that he was better, he described it as acceptable.

The first two words that come to me are 'quirky' and 'different'- which are probably not the first time those adjectives have been used. We decided to visit the Pigs Nose after a review in the Times. I love a good pub and support them where I can. We parked at Start Point and walked there. As we got closer to the 2pm deadline for food we ran. We arrived at three minutes past two. We were greeted by Laura, when she glanced up from her phone, with, "we've stopped serving food you know, you can have a bag of crisps,."We knew it wasn't going to be good. The pint was good. The whole pub was dark and dingy and the toilets were unclean. I will never darken the door of their darkened pub again.

We stayed for three nights in the village as we were walking the SW Coast path from Salcombe to Torquay. This pub was always packed out with a buzzing atmosphere. This was not surprising as the food was well cooked and presented and reasonably priced, with a decent choice on the menu. The locals and bar staff were friendly and it was quite easy to have a conversation. It was here that I discovered ' Perino' in the absence of Tralawney. It was within 5-10 minutes walking distance of our accommodation and we ate there every evening. It was refreshing to find somewhere which had not taken advantage of its isolated position to hike up prices and the food was good value. Our dog was one of many well behaved ones who were welcomed there.

First impressions were positive - a large old room, antique furniture and lots of interesting, quirky decoration. The beer, wine and snacks were all fine. The old fashioned pub food from the menu was also ok. On the busy evening we were there it was a nice scene of locals and lots of dogs. The position also is nice, opposite the village green. But you had a sense the whole place could do with a good clean - our table, for example, was sticky. Recorded music was loud and intrusive when we first arrived and the pub was empty. Nice also if they could replace the pub sign outside with one that doesn’t look as if it was knocked up by an amateur painter. Service seemed a bit chilly to outsiders.

We tried the door but it was locked we rattled it a few times and no one came so we left never to return.
