What a lovely weekend we had celebrating the BIG birthday of one of our young friends! We were blessed with the weather which added to the beauty of the building. This is my favourite Pig so far - there are plenty of different places to congregate on comfy seats around the fire. The staff without exception were friendly welcoming and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and the shower is to die for - the best ever for power and heat. Like every Pig it is expensive but very worth while for a luxury treat.

We didn't stay over but it's set in the most stunning old mansion. It feels like a national trust property except you can use it! Real wood fires in every room, original furnishings, you feel like a queen for the night! Food and cocktails all picked fresh from their garden so flavours are herby and light but delicious. Relaxed and grand at the same time.

We had the most amazing experience at The Pig last night. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The venue itself is stunning, with such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, and the timing of each course was spot on - everything flowed beautifully without feeling rushed or waiting too long. What truly made the evening special was the staff. Every member of the team was friendly, attentive, and made us feel so well looked after. A special shoutout to our server, Callum, who was just fantastic - so kind, professional, and genuinely lovely. It was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had, and we can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!

Would be 5 but there were three errors. Excellent, friendly and alert service. We ordered the crackling and the cheese with picketed walnuts. First error: no walnuts. We had eaten half expecting to find some inside. They took away the two remaining and added the walnuts. Very nice but it would have been better to have all 4 with both halves of the stated ingredients! I ordered a glass of Shiraz at the same time as the person next door ordering a same size glass of a red. Error two: noticeably less in mine. Probably end of a bottle but I didn’t say anything as had just sent back rhe cheese. Mains came. Skate wings and beef shin delicious. Ordered cauliflower cheese. Error three: I like al dente but this was still raw. The waiter was efficient and said he could take our plates away and start again in 7 mins but we were halfway through so declined. The rhubarb and pana cotta was good as were the drinks in front of the fire afterwards.

This a truly beautiful hotel. Our room was perfect, the bed large and comfortable. The service was excellent. However we found the food underwhelming and not up to the standard we would have expected. The menu did not really appeal. There was nothing that really made you go wow! Our food was ok but nothing special and considering the prices should have been much better. Breakfast was good. A little disappointed as we were expecting great things.

We've eaten here twice now but probably won't return, other than for drinks. The location and building are gorgeous but the food is very underwhelming and, as some previous reviewers have commented, does not warrant the fairly high prices. Shame.

Last week we took our management team to The Pig at Combe, and it was fantastic! This was our third visit to this gorgeous country house, nestled in the beautiful Otter Valley. This time we stayed in the cottages, which were cosy, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The attention to detail in the rooms made us feel right at home. The food at The Pig at Combe is a real highlight. We booked to dine in the Victorian Kitchen, a beautifully restored private space with a unique charm, featuring original fittings and a warm, intimate atmosphere. The hotel's atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with cosy lounges, open fires, and sumptuous interiors. Overall, The Pig at Combe remains our top choice for a team retreat. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and beautiful surroundings makes it a truly special place. We can't wait to return!

Having passed the sign for the Pig regularly for the last 15 years, and having seen the TV review of this place , when my wife said let’s give it whirl I was really excited. I knew I would have to pay to eat in an exclusive restaurant in a beautiful setting but hey ho you only live once. So today we went for lunch, taking advantage of a January offer. I’m afraid I have to report that I left there £140 worse off having eaten a mediocre meal in a cold restaurant, albeit in a a lovely setting. The venue is really nice , long drive in down a narrow road leads to the Combe and a big house. It’s only really when you get inside that the class of the place becomes apparent . It is beautifully decorated and very welcoming. With a log fire on the go and plenty of seating to relax in before you take your seat. The restaurant also has lovely decor and a log fire which was lit when we arrived but within the hour or so it had ebbed out with no attention from the staff. I became cold and the couple next to us ate their lunch with their coats on! My starter was the roast beef with horseradish cream, whilst my wife had the crab on toast, to help wash it all down we ordered a carafe of their house Chilean Sav Blanc. The service was very attentive and swift, however it was clear that the toast my wife was served had been made for some time as it was rock hard, when she cut into it a piece shot out and across the room. The beef was lovely though and plenty of it. However I was disappointed that the horseradish cream seemed to lack any horseradish flavour. For main course i ordered the pork chop with mustard sauce, and my wife the plaice , both with a side order of “thrice cooked chips”. Whilst the meat fishers were nice, they were very plain and lacked the flair required for the stand alone price charged. Most disappointing was the thrice cooked chips which turned out to be in my opinion haggard old hand cut chips left over and reheated . There was no crispness to this dish and they tasted like leftover reheats. Unfortunately our woes continued with the wine. Which wasn’t cold enough and I’m almost certain wasn’t Sav Blank, as it had the nose and flavour of a Chardonnay . My bad as I didn’t taste it first I trusted the wine to be fine! Our desserts were nice though I had the spiced apple crumble whilst my wife had the trifle. Finally came the bill. We paid without grumble however, for a £38 set three course menu per person we ended up paying £140 for a can on non alcoholic beer, a cocktail, and a 500ml carafe of wine . Our only other extras were two portions of chips . Three big questions then: 1 Was it worth it —no 2 Would I go back again - no 3 Would I recommend this to friends no Sorry but there is massive improvement required before you can justify your prices

We visited for a special lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday and our wedding anniversary. Beautiful setting and lovely building with cosy fires in most rooms. The staff were friendly and even overly gushing at times. Our meals were good, although my venison was a little too rare for my taste and I did have a problem with my starter but it was quickly rectified. I had booked their January lunch time menu but when the bill was presented I had been charged at the full rate. Again the mistake was quickly rectified. All in all an enjoyable experience if a little on the pricey side. Perhaps we'll go again in the warmer months when we can take advantage of the outdoor areas. We didn't stay overnight so I can't comment on the rooms.

Went for supper to the restaurant with my son. Food was good, a couple of the staff not so good. Miserable Frenchman who took our drinks order in bar before supper should probably look for a different job. Close second was the girl who came up to us to take a drinks order then did an about turn and went off to serve someone else. Management need to get a grip on this and inject a bit more urgency and enthusiasm in some of the staff. A number of staff looked like they would rather not be there

It was my mum's 90th birthday so we had a small party of 12 family and friends gathered in the Pig's Georgian kitchen for a lovely lunch. The setting was perfect, a private room with a giant range, arched window, a central table and lit with candles. We had the 3 course menu, with a choice of 4 items on each. Freshly baked bread arrived whilst we waited for our starters. The pigeon breast for starters and the plaice and locally sourced pork chop on the mains were sumptious. We had made a playlist of mum's favourite songs, and this played in the background on their speaker. We loved the menu, great setting, attentive, competent service and a happy and relaxing experience. Mum's already talking about coming for her 100th!

First time eating at the Pig. We have visited the beautiful building before for drinks only. The restaurant is stunning and tables made up beautifully. We had some picky bits for starters… the chili cheese bites are to die for . The plaice I had for main was dry and needed some sauce. I asked for some tartare sauce but was given more of the relish that I already had which was not tartare sauce..it was more like a caper pickle in melted butter. The chips were dry. However the side of tobacco onions was another to die for dish. My dish needed some veg but at £6 a time we just opted for the chips and tobacco onions. A lovely experience eating here but I felt it wasn’t worth the cost sadly.

Despite assurances from our friends who had been to this restaurant previously we found the whole experience underwhelming and below par on all fronts. The culture and service throughout is ‘casual’. The food in general was poor and unimaginative with exception of the ‘Pork’ items that were sumptuous. The most disappointing aspect was the dreadful service coupled with ambitious pricing and a hefty service charge.

day Cannot understand the outstandingly good food reviews! We were excited to try this supposedly upmarket food venue for a belated birthday lunch and dressed up for the occasion, even though there was no dress code. Staff were friendly, attentive and professional but we were disappointed to see them all in scruffy jeans and the other guests looking like they’d dressed for Wetherspoons, which incidentally does better food! There’s a huge drinks menu consisting of many pages, in contrast to the exceptionally limited and eye wateringly expensive food menu. What can we say - just bland and more money for every little extra, eg carrots £5.50, chips £5.50 etc on top of your piece of fish for example that costs nearly £30! We had been looking forward to some fine dining and were bitterly disappointed with the experience. Shabby tables (no tablecloths), unmatching almost falling to pieces chairs and old Granny unmatching crockery. Maybe management think this is trendy and shabby chic, but unfortunately not to our taste. Next time we have a special occasion we’ll return to The Ivy - what a contrast to “The Pig”.

Five of us had lunch to celebrate a birthday and had a lovely time. There is so much to love here. The grounds and the building are stunning. On food, we adored the scallops, terrine, brisket and duck. The pork chops were a little on the tough side and the portion of greens stingy. Summer pudding was lovely. Service was friendly, but at this price point mains really do need to be served at the same time - the delay was annoying. The enormously long wine list was a real turn-off and hard to read. We were expecting to pay a lot today, but I was surprised to see so few bottles at under £50. All in all we had a really nice lunch and enjoyed the experience, but at circa £85 a head I’m not sure I would choose to afford it again.

All the Wow is in the house, ground. Lots of effort round the shabby chic country brand and friendly staff. . Unfortunately the food failed to Wow. Found the menu limited and too similar to last visit quite a while ago, no specials board, When the piggy nibbles and starter bread and oil and the sides , beat the main course something's not right in the menu . Small steak , although tasty , with a wasted massive pile of lettuce and a flowerpot of chips was ok . Not good value at £37. A garden full of salad outside and we got mass of leaves ! Did we have a nice time generally , yes. , would we go again ,no . And then we got the bill ....WOW !!!!!!

Took my elderly parents for lunch today in the restaurant - the food is decent, if overpriced - my parents said (after the fact) that their lamb was lukewarm when It arrived and cold by the time they finished. To be fair my steak was good and the lemon whipped ricotta and courgettes was a great, light starter. We had 3 starters, 3 main courses, 2 glasses of wine, 3 coffees, no desert. 70 gbp a head, incl service - there are much better lunches around at that price and I would have sent the lamb back if I had known it wasn't hot enough at the time.

Good stay overall. Spent one night in a Snug room, slightly small but very well laid out so you feel clean and comfy. Great shower. The breakfast is not included but £20 for a hot dish, cold buffet and drinks is worthwhile. The two restaurants were both good, albeit a tad expensive. The Folly primarily does flatbreads while the main restaurant serves a variety of excellent locally sourced dishes. Located near a quiet village, there are a couple of walks to do in the area, as well as treatment rooms for spa services. Would recommend staying here if you have the chance.

The pig at coombe is a beautiful place,we stayed in a stream wagon absolutely fabulous, and the location was perfect.Due to us having a golden wedding anniversary this year, we were spoilt. We would like to say a special thanks to Louise, Evie, and Charles (Deputy GM) for making our stay one to remember and, of course, all the other pig team who crossed our path. And good luck with the kitchen clock. I hope to see it working next time we visit. The kitchen garden was a lovely tranquil place and some very helpful gardeners. The folly is great for lunch and good beers. We sampled a few cocktails before our evening meals, and we love the old-fashioned tables and chairs with a mixture of old knifes, forks and spoons just adding character to the restaurant. We tried several meals which were very good, risotto, lemon sole, duck breast. Unfortunately, the scallop tartare and the calves livers were not up to our expectations. We had breakfast on the last day and were very disappointed with the overcooked fried eggs, bacon, and cremated mushrooms, as we were the only ones in for breakfast at the time. We highly recommend this hotel and the stream wagons.

Nice venue hidden in the countryside down narrow lanes. Elizabethan manor house which is a hotel and restaurant. We had a small early graduation dinner so got in before most hotel guests and other diner's. Staff were attentive, polite and helpful and we had a great time in the restaurant. We had the special for all of us and it was delicious and good value for money. Nice wine and plenty to choose from. You can get help from the staff on the food and wine, worth doing and ask a lot of questions and they are only too pleased to help and make your time relaxed, unpretentious and enjoyable. Take dessert in the bar with a roaring fire and a coffee and night cap. Even arrive earlier and enjoy house and grounds as well as perusing the menu before you get seated. They even brought some treats and gifts for daughters graduation celebration. We will be looking at more of the Home Grown hotel group selection of places after this visit.

We went Sunday November 5th for my partners birthday with friends. We had table 8 a nice table for 4 just inside the main restaurant. Having read some of the reviews I can agree with the 'only one slice of bread' no butter, but really isn't that being petty. If you wanted more bread or butter I am sure if you asked they would serve it. Anyway, we had an amazing lunch. Beautiful food, excellent choice of wines and first class service from all the team that looked after us. A shout out to Alicia, a sommelier. She along with the team made it a very special Sunday lunch even more so. I think sometimes people expect the team in a restaurant to be mind readers. We found the moment we engaged with them, asked their names, took time to acknowledge the hard work they did, as Sunday was very busy, we were treated with respect, had fun and still got the highest levels of service. Well done to everyone and thank you.

Can't say I'd been impressed with any menu on the 'net before attending but friends wanted to take me for a 'special' birthday lunch. I remember Combe House in the 'olden' days = a real treat and fabulous cordon bleu food = tried not to compare with that but.....definitely not worth the £....1 non alcoholic drink, 2 glasses of Bolli @ £22 a glass. 2 venison with no potatoes and only 1 small portion of red cabbage on the plates, and 1 lemon sole looking very lonely with nothing else! 1 glass Pinot Noir and tap water. 1 pear pudding and 2 coffees = over £200 plus helped themselves to £23.66 'discretionary' service charge. but with no mention of that! The menu was illegible - the print being far too small, staff were pushing any extras they could and waiting staff constantly interrupted sentences i.e. rude/ill trained. Clearly someone considers this a clever money making ruse - and if people are prepared to pay well over the odds for very little then they're winning, but to me it's a silly ploy. with ghastly tasteless pigs littered all over the venue, and ruins what once was a very special place to dine/enjoy - even the name seems wholly inappropriate. How sad an end to what was once my favourite place to dine.

As always fabulous location nicely kept and lovely atmosphere. Service is consistently good with well trained conscientious young staff …….although I think I heard « that’s amazing » too many times from staff members! Given we were served by six people during our lunch it becomes perfunctory and rather tedious. All well intentioned but avoid OTT! Food is OK but sensed portion size much reduced bordering on mean, particularly the Walled Garden Salad. Also general presentation off the pace. However despite possibly mixed feelings as to the value equation on food it’s largely offset by the overall ambience….. but The Pig must take care in a very competitive scene. Interestingly lunch service went late into afternoon and it was nice not to be hurried or rushed. After lunch a very pleasing southerly garden to be enjoyed before returning home.

The Pig has it all. Beautiful romantic setting Stunning period buildings, parkland and views. Tastefully decorated and comfortable dining and reception rooms. Outdoor drinks and dining are available in a choice of very attractive settings, heated by fire-pits and braziers. The menu, whilst not extensive, should have something to delight most diners. The quality of the food is very good and this is reflected in the price. Some very good wines are available. Service is attentive friendly and efficient. However a slightly bum note is sounded by the Oliver Twistian allocation of complementary bread, whereby a very small morsel of the sourdough is presented to each guest individually via the tongs. In my experience such obvious frugality is not a feature of restaurants in the class to which the Pig aspires. Get some bread baskets chaps, stinginess can spoil the occasion.

They were pleasant when you could get their attention. Had to ask for a drinks menu in the bar before lunch. No butter arrived with bread. Had to ask for it. Beef was fatty although it tasted nice. Had to ask for gravy/jus twice. Had to ask for horseradish- none offered. Two meals arrived with veg. None with the fish. No one thought to tell us that it didn’t come with any! No one asked if our meals were ok at all. The deserts were not inspiring and we passed. We had no idea what Piggy Fours were as they were in the ice cream section. We tried them - average. Asked about the history of the place. Someone brought a sheet out which was barely legible. This place needs attention to detail. It needs attentive staff, smartly dressed for it to command the coin asked as it is not cheap.

I’ve eaten at The Pig a few times and was once again disappointed in the quality of the food and mediocre service. We dined in the Georgian Kitchen which is one of their private dining spaces which has a lovely ambience, but is let down by a very poor service. The waiter and sommelier were both lovely when we saw them, although despite asking for another drink during the evening and getting a nod from the waiter, it never arrived. It’s almost that as you’re in a private dining area which is away from the main restaurant, you get forgotten. The food was ok, but certainly not fine dining and overpriced really for what it is. Starters were lovely, but mains very average with the risotto so over salted, that those that had it failed to finish it. I woke up several times that night with a dry mouth craving water, just like you get with a cheap takeaway. Desserts were nicely presented but lacked the wow factor from a taste point of view, that you would expect from a restaurant pitched at this price point. Overall ok, but if you’re spending this sort of money there are many better restaurants and a few with private dining spaces in the Exeter area.

Family in the area recommended the Pig as a must do while visiting. Immediately impressive was the building (Elizabethan architecture) the restaurant and bar is housed within. The service was very good, and the bar staff could make you just about whatever you wanted as she was very learned. The meal itself was in their restaurant and was delicious. The piggie bits are a must, and so many delicious vegetable options that we had to try two. The main meal was also delicious in flavor, however slightly overcooked. This didnt change the experience however, but when the end came the manager was so sincerely apologetic (we didnt mind, we had the best meal) and proceeded to make corrections to the bill. It just goes to show that even with a slight mishap this is still a 5 star review, because the staff were impeccable. Evie, our server (apologies on spelling), was very nice, sincere, and attentive. Would recommend anyone in the area, or even within a 30 min drive to go. Wonderful. Thanks to all xxx
