Welcoming,good service, excellent food.

Visited on a very wet Tuesday 8th October 2024. The rain was tipping down and Franklin's wasn't busy. Helpful young man took order for two cream teas as per their outside menu board. Nice and simple? Teas arrived, two pots that actually poured without dripping so good so far. Then the scones arrived. One looked okay but the second had been halved and TOASTED!!! I could see the unease in the young man's face as he tried to explain how the scones had needed defrosting. Defrosting? How come one scone looked normal yet the other was sliced and burned? I gave it a try, not wishing to cause a scene. I even applied jam and cream supplied in the smallest pair of portion-control pots I have ever seen. No kidding; too small for a teaspoon. Even the borrowers would have found them too small. Of course I rejected the toasted scones after a single mouthful. No apology, no attempt to put it right. Perhaps this happens so often they are just bored by it? My partner, feeling uncomfortable by my now total absence of food, could not then eat hers. Is that surprising? So, as I paid the bill for only one cream tea and one separate pot of tea I suggested their 'chef' be trained in the use of a microwave. We then went directly to Bumble and Bee where superb scones are made freshly every day. I will NEVER go to Franklin's again.

Great breakfast with Gluten Free options, nice friendly service

service was great, very friendly, and quick. Chicken Burger was ok but scrimped a bit on the salad dressing, with limp tiny lettuce leaf, and two of the thinnest slices of tomato ever seen. It did not ruin my overall experience and I will go again.

If you appreciate good quality food then don’t eat here. We paid £75 for a lunch that was worth no more than £45 tops. The service was okay, nice and friendly with prime location which lead to an expectation of a good lunch. What we received was no better than a buster bellies cafe experience. Cheap ingredients, no thought to local or quality and choice of ingredients that could have been used. We had a chicken burger that was no better than Iceland, the pate I could not decide what meat it was as it was dark gray and a little runny? The bread was cheap sliced, with an array of local bakers around this could have been so much better. The Tesco express around the corner has a better choice of pate which is we’re they buy their ketchup as we was given Tesco Stockwell in the bottle. (Come on guys your a Resturant / cafe at least decant it before giving it to the customer) The Brie baguette was okay, no skill or presentation, £10 or thereabouts for what we could have eaten or knocked up ourselves for a less than half the price. Ham, egg and chips the ham was nice with two eggs, but little chips. Small portion of chips with each meal, you pre-school children can count them. Five of us ate and four of us would not eat here again and the one that said he would was a child.

Expensive for what it is. £9.25 for two small pancakes and a bit of chocolate. Ripp off. Dirty fries were lovely but also expensive. 40 minutes wait for the food and it wasn't even that busy. Would not come back.

Really lovely food at lunchtime. Staff were on the ball (it was busy), friendly and helpful. Food didn't take long to come out. Highly recommended

Great food, great atmosphere, service focused service, family run business that really cares for their customers. Well worth a visit for either a drink or food,

The breakfast was pretty good here other than the sausage which was a bit chewy and the beans could have been better. Lovely toast and great poached egg also good bacon and great that they do generous real butter portions. The decor was nice and a nice atmosphere inside. I don't rate the coffee, it may be called a flat white but nothing more than a milky coffee with no real coffee flavour. Wish I had gone to a proper coffee house for that.

The Good: sunny location on the square, friendly staff. The Bad: wrong order delivered, wait time and £11 for the wrong panini! The Ugly: corporate fake bushes, cheap nasty chicken breast, dry scone and passing off a combination of chicken, brie and sweet chilli sauce as French.

We stopped for a Coffee after seeing the advertised price of £3.95 for a Large cappuccino. Firstly their Large, was not particularly large, more like a medium. Secondly when I came to pay they charged £4.55 for each coffee because they said they charge extra for Decaf!

Came here for a few drinks, while waiting for family before going to the another pub for Sunday carvery. Quite reasonable prices, speedy services. Would 100% recommend coming to Franklins for drinks or food been here multiple times never had a bad experience

Waited half an hour for a cold, mediocre breakfast. Overpriced for what it is. No idea how it's got such a good rating

Food is great, staff are very welcoming with seating inside and out, very busy and popular venue, food is well prepared, it’s a great place at lunch time and for a drink in the evening. If you’re visiting Exmouth and in the centre I recommend popping into Franklins as the coffee is great as well!!

Went for breakfast this morning…unsuccessfully. Ordered and took money quickly enough, after 46 minutes wait we had to leave. Won’t be back…abysmal

We eat here all through the year, we've just been told as it's summer and busy you can't make changes to the breakfast menu (ie change sausage for mushroom) but you still have to pay for it . Bloody rip off

We went for breakfast,, 7 of us. It was great, the food was delicious. Service was great. Definitely recommend.

I have to say we were a little disappointed with the quality of the food we had from Franklins for the price and the food also took a long time to arrive. The restaurant was busy but the order was fairly straightforward I felt so shouldn't have taken 45 minutes. I feel there are many better options in Exmouth now and we won't be going back. The staff were very friendly and attentive and tried their best to address issues we raised and it is in a lovely position and does have a good atmosphere.

Snobby entitled place, will call the cops in you and put in fake reports if you’re not upper class. You walk past the place and they see you? Fake police report. Not actually been in there but have spent many a day in jail thanks to them!.

Absolutely lovely place to go for breakfast or lunch. We had paninis and sat inside as outside was taken up but it was such a lovely place. Really nicely decorated, clean, really friendly staff and reasonably priced. The staff were working so hard and were above friendly and had very good service skills which is hard to find nowadays. I'd highly recommend to go to when visiting Exmouth.

What’s a lovely place, just had a delightful breakfast and coffee. Great service and soft butter. The best remedy from the night before.

Nowhere to park so could not try it!

A very warm welcome as soon as you walk in with smiling staff and eager to please the customers. The complete staff complement each other and have gelled together. A great pint of beer and the food well what can I say , very tasty well cooked and hot my wife and I will not eat anywhere else from now so when visiting Exmouth you should give Franklin's a try you won't be disappointed.

Poor, slow service ordered scrambled egg with smoked salmon and when it arrived after about 40minuites the smoked salmon was cooked in with the eggs! Cooked smoked salmon? Sent it back and they said my order would be another long wait, I waited and I recieved the off cuts of salmon! No wonder they cooked it. Poor food hygiene rating upon checking too!

Had lunch here yesterday with my Mum, daughter and grand-daughter. A lovely little cafe and nice food. Will definately visit again. 😀🤩

I asked for the potato and leek soup to take away because I was sick. I don’t think they usually sell it as take away but they were happy to do so and it was delicious thank you always good food and service.

In a world where customers are just numbers for most businesses, franklins definitely pay attention to their customers and provide an excellent service. We love the full English breakfast here... very friendly staff. They also cater to gluten free and vegetarian diet. Definitely recommend...if you're in Exmouth :)

First time we've been there. Part of a celebration brunch for a group. Service was friendly and prompt. Menu had lots of choices and food was excellent. Great atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

Dogs welcomed and spoilt with treats. Had a great lunch on a very wet day.

Visited with my partner after travelling to Devon for our short holiday. We were desperate for a coffee and some breakfast and this place did not disappoint. The full English breakfast was delicious!!! Perfect portion size, very reasonably priced and arrived quickly. Coffee was lovely too. :) The staff were very welcoming and so lovely - made sure we had everything we needed and always had a smile on their face. Were more than happy to substitute an item on the breakfast for something else, which I really appreciated. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning when we are next in Exmouth.

Service excellent, just made it in time for a late breakfast/brunch before lunch menu kicked in, had a cooked breakfast-scrambled egg was more like an omelette and the whole breakfast may have been held under the hot plate a bit too long hence dried up, still edible but the dog helped eat it so not wasted.

We sat outside at a very nice table, with our dog (although we think dogs are allowed inside too). The service was fast and very friendly with the drinks and food coming quickly (surprisingly so because we added stuff to our order after it had gone, but all came quickly). Superb coffee and mint tea, and lots of it. Very, very friendly server. A wonderful location on the main square of Axmouth - quite a lot going on and plenty to see. Excellent all round!

Stopped for coffee and brunch on a busy Saturday morning. Service was poor, coffee was weak, food was cold. What more can I say but being busy is no excuse.

Spectacular food, Max and his team were most helpful. We will definitely be back on our next trip. Highly recommend

Arrived at the restaurant about 2 p.m. so after the busy period. Only ordered drink and paninis. .Not that difficult. Drinks came fairly quickly but we waited a long time for the food. Appeared to be plenty of waiting staff but as some people who had arrived after us received their food before us, felt that the order had been forgotten! On querying the delay we were told that it would not be long! Arrived after another 10 mins or so (45 mins in all). Informed when paying bill that there was only one chef ! Busy summer, so they should hire more staff. Not impressed, so probably won't visit again.

Tuesday at 12 noon. We waited 10 mins before being asked what drinks we wanted. They came fairly quickly. The waitress (very good and friendly) then took our food requests (4 x simple sandwiches etc). After waiting 35 mins we asked when the food would be coming. We were bluntly told that the menu says that it could be 30 mins (small print that nobody reads when you simply want food). Came after another 15 mins i.e. 45 mins wait for sandwiches. Very little food coming out at any time and others were complaining as well as us. Conclusion was that food was actually very good, service was to say the least rubbish. On the back of toilet door was an advert for a full time chef !! NOT OUR PROBLEM IF THEY ARE SHORT STAFFED.

Visited Exmouth and had a nice lunch here. Had a ploughman's lunch. Husband had ham, egg and chips. His was better than mine. Sat outside.

Nice little cafe that we stumbled upon.

I took my brother here recently and the service outshone three other places we had been that evening, it was quick, friendly and great conversation. The prices are great for the quality of food and drinks.

Unfortunately despite being a simple order of a pannini and a burger it took nearby an hour to arrive. Food was delicious but just took far too long to be served. It wasn't particularly busy when we visited but I did note a sign in the window recruiting kitchen and waiting staff so maybe they're understaffed at the moment. I will come back for the quality of the food, but hope the waiting time improves.

Our first visit to Exmouth we had breakfast here 😋 it was very nice staff were friendly we would definitely recommend .

Absolutely awful breakfast paired with extremely poor customer service .. we are local and took my daughter and her family for a birthday treat !! After waiting for 45 minutes .. eggs Benedict came out cold , tasteless and watery eggs .. my husbands “Ozzie “ breakfast that looked the children could have made was disgusting and he didn’t eat it .. A free complaint straight away that it was all cold the owner did offer to redo but we could not wait another 45 minutes as the family were off to Cornwall . I says no but we will have to have a reduction in the bill. We did eat the eggs Benedicts as we were all hungry but my husband refused to eat his . Coming to pay the bill she said that we had to pay for everything except the “ Ozzie” breakfast as it had been eaten . She then overcharged us by £7 and then was rude to my son-in-law . Being locals that have lots of family and friends and use the restaurant a lot .. we will not return .. very sad as we always support local businesses .

Sunday morning breakfast. Lovely sunny day so we sat outside. There were a fair few tables free outside. We were served swiftly and our coffees arrived. Sadly they weren’t really cortados, more like espresso and Luke warm. Breakfast took a while to come. They do say a 30 minute wait at busy times. It didn’t seem that busy and it was longer than that. They did apologise as they delivered the food. The breakfast itself was nice. Not sure I’d head back mind you as I felt they lacked quality of service.

Nice friendly place. First class service from the staff. Only had crab sandwiches but they were first class very tasty would recommend.

A nice place in a pleasant area. The service is friendly and attentive, but the delivery of drinks and food is slow. The food choices are a little limited, need improvement in presentation but are well cooked.

The staff are so lovely with them going above and beyond. Food was fantastic. You get good quality food and in a decent quantity too so you'll leave well fed with good food and it won't cost the earth. We were outside and despite raining, the staff went above and beyond. I'm fussy with food too!

Went in for breakfast. It was really tasty with excellent coffee. Staff were lovely. Our only complaint would be 2 rasher's of bacon in a bacon sandwich isn't enough (maybe 3) would be better. Hasn't put us off from returning though.

Fantastic breakfast with top quality ingredients, couldn't have been any nicer. Beautiful interior, and being dog friendly is a massive bonus (although you can sit outside). Dog was even given a treat. Service was extremely good, friendly and jolly. Really can't fault the place.

Lovely surprise find in Exmouth. We stopped for something to eat. Warm welcome, great service, lovely food. Had the best prawn cocktail I’ve been had. Proper layers of prawn and lettuce all the way through. Gorgeous.

The decline of this 'cocktail bar' is stark. The mojhito wasn't good at all. The pre-mixed drink was v expensive and lacked any creativity or fresh products. One to avoid.

Ended up here when the place we were aiming for was full. SO GLAD we did! There was a bit of a wait for food in the day we went but it was worth it. Food was delicious, the staff were all lovely.

Sorry my review is late I was there last September, I sat outside and was very greeted by a very polite and friendly member of staff he also said I can charge my phone behind the bar, he brought my beer out without out no hassle very highly recommend if you are in Exmouth on your holiday or not

Nice place to eat. Food could be a little hotter possibly.

We visited on a holiday on a rainy day for some lunch, there was no seats downstairs but a kind waitress advised us to sit upstairs. We found a table and sat down. There was some old plates but they were soon cleared and we were given menus. I ordered the club panini and it was divine we also got some sandwiches which I was told were also pretty good. Meal requests were dealt with without fuss and were just as we asked. The chips with my panini were perfectly cooked not the usual frozen chewy ones you get from other takeaways. Overall a good meal and will definitely be coming back soon!

On a wet & wild day it was a pleasure to find a warm welcome at Franklin's after finding many places were not dog friendly. Service was quick and food was great. A steady stream of customers.

It's a nice friendly atmosphere. Just take a seat and someone will be with you. Quick food service.
