Called in on our way home. Very friendly greeting, was told to find a table and our drinks and food order would be taken. Lots of options on menu, including smaller portions if required, also special’s board. Orders placed, when served absolutely perfect, good portions, excellent quality and fairly priced. Will certainly go again when in the area.

As a family of six we had a lovely relaxing evening at the Old Inn. Friendly and welcoming staff. One of our Grandsons said his was the best burger he’d tasted. We had a range of meals from the menu…starters, battered fish, liver, steak pie, burger..all meals were well cooked , nicely presented and fairly priced. Afterwards we were allowed a quick game of skittles while waiting for our lift home. We’ll definitely go back again. Thank you.

An absolute pleasure to find ourselves here for lunch. A charming and picturesque inn, with thatch roof and an old English charm to it, we were very happy and full by the end of our meal. Everything was beautiful, especially the locally sourced beef and we couldn't help but have dessert to finish. A lovely couple who were polite and fast with service. Parking was easy and cost very reasonable considering where we were. I honestly would highly recommend for couples or families. They had toys to keep my youngest busy whilst we waited and by the end she didn't want to go home. I just wished I'd have taken a photo because the property is honestly stunning. With the cottage feel and the low beams and thatching, it really does look like something out of a fairytale. Very clean and quaint.

A lovely, friendly, quaint pub with clean tables and a very warm welcome. The house Shiraz is good and the menu is varied with plenty of home cooked options. I chose the sirloin which was tender and cooked perfectly. My daughter had the homemade curry and enjoyed it too. Good value, large portions. Highly recommend as a better-than-average, friendly, character filled local pub. We have spent the past week and this was definitely our favourite pub experience.

So pleased we decided to stop here for Sunday lunch, the roast was perfect… and I was glad I opted for the small version, which came with three roast potatoes, a Yorkshire, and plenty of meat and veg. Hubby had scampi and chips which was also excellent. Lovely atmosphere in a traditional (700 yr old) country pub, with friendly attentive staff, great service and reasonable prices.

Great pub, excellent food, friendly service, well worth a visit. We arrived on a Sunday early evening as food is served 5.30-8. A warm welcome and friendly staff. If you like real ale, definitely take a container, Otter Amber was on offer had a pint onsite and purchased three to go, in my own container. Dogs very welcome and if you are lucky there is a doggy menu, sadly for our three they had sold out. so one of our dogs made do with licking the barman's feet, Lol. We returned again on Wednesday 7.25 and was still warmly welcomed and served excellent food again.

Good effort at a ‘revamp’ to a more traditional approach to restaurant service, with a varied menu and personalised choices, according to food allergies. If there is an observation it might be around the staffing, as all orders had to be managed by an already tasked barman - although this is minor issue, which is probably addressed at more ‘peak’ times. A tasty, welcome meal in a very traditional location and premises which more befits the setting than some recent reincarnations at the same venue.

This a good welcoming dog friendly pub. As the name suggests, it is a very old building. A friendly welcoming landlord. We were looking for a lunchtime snack, there was a good selection of light meals. We had a phillysteak and 'dirty chips'. This arrived very hot and well presented. It was very tasty. We felt very welcomed and comfortable, also our young border collie got plenty of attention from the staff. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend this old place.

We visited as a family of four (on a Saturday lunchtime) without booking. We were seated promptly and service was friendly and quick. The menu was limited as it was the fried chicken menu, so you may want to check in advance if you're expecting traditional pub food. The food was tasty - we had a mix of chicken on the bone, boneless chicken and in the burrito wrap. We had normal fries and parmesan truffle fries. The home made coating was tasty but light - and the boneless chicken pieces in particular seemed very generous. All of the chicken seemed very tender and moist. All in all a really nice meal.

Disappointing. Came for dinner with my partner last. Hadn't been here befor and wanted to try it out after a long beach walk. We where able to get the last available table for dinner. It seemed high standard and buy the prices of the menu I thought we where in for a real treat. My partner orded the fish pie. It was a small and plain fish pie. Just two types of fish and not much flavour. There were no vegetables with or in the pie. For £14 I would of expected more. I orded a Moroccan lamb tagine. It was very bland, boring and really didnt taste like a tagine. More of a spaghetti bolognese taste. The lamb was tasty but no taste of Morocco the cous cous was extremely tasteless. Just of rasinins. Felt no effort had gone into what suppost to be a rice tasty long cooked flavousome meal. At £15 I expected high quality. Both these dishes where lacking alot of taste. We where given complimentary amuse-bouche (mushroom, truffle soup) and beetroot and linseed freshly baked bread. That tasted amazing and felt so excited after that for the main. Wasnt happy with the radio playing with rock music. This wasnt relaxing or fitting in with the "fine dining". After the disappointment we decided not to look at the dessert menu.

We happened upon The Old Inn for lunch on Friday 11th March. We were greeted by a lovely girl who was warm, welcoming and professional. She showed us to a table in the main dining area. Our first surprise was an amuse bouche of cauliflower, mushroom and blue cheese soup. It was absolutely divine as was the rabbit stew we both had for lunch. We enjoyed the food so much we cancelled our other reservation for dinner on Saturday night and returned to The Old Inn. I’m so glad we did! I started with Scotch duck egg and my husband had soup of the day which was carrot and chickpea. Both were excellent, could not fault either and the presentation was good too. For mains my husband had a sirloin steak, the quality of the meat was excellent because the steak melted in your mouth. I had rack of lamb with braised shoulder of lamb. I worried that as I hadn’t been asked how I wanted my lamb cooked it might be overdone. I shouldn’t have worried! It was nothing short of perfection, perfectly pink and perfectly succulent. The accompanying vegetables and shoulder of lamb was to the same high standard. I also had a glass or two of an excellent Shiraz to wash it down. Both my husband and I eat out a lot so we were pleasantly surprised to accidentally happen upon such a little gem of a place. We will definitely be returning whenever we are back in this neck of the woods. My only slight comment would be that I just didn’t get the ‘chicken box’ thing. It seemed incongruous with the other specials and classic menus.

Firstly let me say this a review about the pub before it's "winter" hours and much smaller menu. Like a previous reviewer, I have lived locally for over 20yrs and have seen the pub "rise and fall" and was hoping that the recent changes over the last year would be positive.... Unfortunately, I am somewhat disappointed. The refurbishment, although stylish has given it much more of a restaurant feel than a pub, as nearly every table is laid out for meals, except for a small table in the main bar area. A friend and i went in for a drink some weeks back, and wanting to keep our distance in these Covid times, went to go into the smaller bar area, away from the main bar. We were told those tables were booked for meals and we had to sit in the main bar. We were there for an hour and a half and no one went into that smaller bar area (so we could have easily enjoyed a space in a safe distance away from other people). It would be nice if it felt like a place where you could pop in occasionally for a pint or two, but this just made the experience feel not that welcoming. As for the food, the chicken "boxes" are tasty and good value. But for a main meal - rather than the little freebies like a small shot glass of soup and a piece of homemade fudge, I'd much more prefer a reasonable portion of side vegetables instead of being charged £3.50 for a very small bowl of veg.

Disappointed. We had a lovely meal here just before Christmas - exceptional stuff, worth going the extra mile for. So we booked another meal, for a larger party for a minor celebration. But instead of a menu of interesting well-cooked food, we got a limited list of junk food options, not much more than you'd expect from the average burger van really. The venue did explain that they were dumbing things down for January(!) but it would have been good if they'd bothered to tell us this.

What a lovely meal! Really impressed with the quality of the food at the Old Inn. Really nice and welcoming staff all smartly dressed and made us feel at home. A nice unexpected amuse bouche which certainly set the scene for the food we were about to enjoy. Myself and my wife had the beef fillet and have to say one of...or even THE best fillet I have ever eaten. Our families meals were really good too with no issues in speed of service or quality of the experience. If I had to have 1 slight moan it would be about the 2 pints of Guinness I had, perhaps the gas mix wasn't quite right as it didn't have that velvety taste and feel. I didn't mention it though as I was to busy enjoying my food. Well worth a visit. And thanks to the staff for looking after us so well.

Pre-booked a table (recommended as can get very busy)for 5 family members and was greeted by a very nice young lady who showed us to our seats and from the get go we had terrific table service, The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, Separate bar area to the restaurant part and a corner for the younger family members to play games, puzzles etc, Proper log fire with chesterfield seats to make a small little quiet Nook, On to the menu now, We did think the menu was minimal but I think this is down to new owners just starting out and feeling their feet at what customers like !? We enquired about the pie of the day and was told it was lamb with mash or pastry the waitress didn't know which? Myself I ordered the monkfish tail scampi, chips in the shape like you could use to dip into a sauce which I found very different but very tasty finished with fresh peas and pea shoots again something I have never tried but really liked them, and believe me I have never tasted anything as nice as the monkfish tail scampi it was absolutely lovely and the potion size was huge, my taste in batter is not huge but that's me, When it came to puddings we were given a little sticky note with a few puddings that was available (unfortunately no prices just a hand written note) We ordered 3 raspberry rolade's with cream but 5 minutes later the chef came out and apologised as he only had 2 rolade's available so we settled for those and a chocolate fudge brownie, Everything was laid out all professional like and top marks to the chef 100%, Thanks to all the team at the blackhorse inn for a great evening
