We booked a few rooms, and stayed for dinner and breakfast the next morning. The staff took fantastic care of us from start to finish, everything we ate and drank was delicious, and the rooms were all unique, clean and comfortable (the shower was wonderful!). We can’t recommend The Pig enough, thank you!

Just back after a first class stay at this stunning venue. Welcoming was so personal and the staff have been so friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until we left. My wife and I stayed in one of the Stream Wagons and have never experienced anything like this. It was perfect and so cosy nestled in the countryside with the stream running past. This wagon had everything you needed and more plus top quality furnishings and products. We ate in the main restaurant during the evening and then breakfast this morning and again the surroundings are quality plus the food is either locally sourced or grown and produced on site. The main building and grounds are beautiful and I could just keep on writing on every perfect aspect. This was so special and we highly recommend a stay here. We are coming back for sure

Visited the restaurant while staying at the hotel for my mini-moon last week. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations or the standards of the hotel itself. We ate dinner here and my pasta dish was so salty that it was inedible. Staff weren't very attentive at all and we were left sitting there ages with no one coming to clear the plates or ask if we wanted anything else. We had breakfast the following morning. Again, staff weren't very attentive or welcoming. Coffees took so long to come that I thought the order had been forgotten. No one came to clear glasses or plates. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and the best I've seen anywhere, with a lovely selection of juices, toast, granola, yoghurt, etc. However, by 9.50 most buffet items, including all juices had run out and weren't replenished. This was bad, as breakfast is supposed to be served until 10.30 and people arriving for a later breakfast were being told there wouldn't be any more food or juices coming out for them. The cooked breakfast was nice, but nothing special. The breakfast buffet is the highlight of eating here, but get there early to avoid disappointment!

The entire staff/ team made sure my wife's 40th birthday was a memorable and joyous occasion. From bringing us wood to our stream wagon, accommodating any and all requests. The grounds were amazing, the stream wagon was relaxing with log burner and outdoor bath. Paige deserves a special mention. Cant recommend enough for any couple

My partner and I have stayed at the South Downs Pig hotel several times and weren't sure that another hotel could match it for incredible service, views, comfort, food etc but the Bridge Pig did. We particularly loved the outdoor bath in the Stream Wagon we stayed in. The whole experience made a cold January weekend into a winter relaxation break. Wonderfully comfy cosy wagon (includes a log fire). Exceptional service and food in a beautiful location. We didn't want to leave. I would highly recommend this hotel - this is not just a hotel but an experience. After staying at the Pig it is hard to consider staying anywhere else!

Bridge Place is a stunning building with lovely surroundings. Approaching the house on a crisp winter's day had us feeling we were in for a Sunday lunch treat. Sadly that was as good as the experience got. That is not to say there weren't a few bright spots but overall this was a disappointing experience. Firstly the bright spots: The staff were polite and efficient. One or two seemed to be fairly new to the job ( I assume) but overall they were good. The atmosphere in the dining area was buzzy, the surroundings were warm and homely. The house itself, with its various snugs and nooks to have your dessert/coffee, is magnificent. The wine was reasonably priced for a decent bottle but ,reading some other reviews on here, maybe we were just lucky. The truffle risotto starter was wonderful as were the tobacco onions side. Portions for the 'roast beef for two' were decent. Now the not so good: Some dishes are way too expensive - £16 for a starter of a few slices of chorizo and pickled veg was ridiculous. £9 for a sliver of sourdough and treacle tart was over the top too. The beef, whilst there was pleny of it, was tough and sinewy. Not good quality at all. Service between courses was slow, meaning that we could not stay at our table for dessert as our 2 hour window ended. We were directed to a snug which was great but it may not suit everyone to move tables with your drinks. I appreciate it was very busy but 2 hours should be more than enough to get through 3 courses. Overall we left feeling somewhat hard done by. What could and should have been a super experience ended up leaving us very disappointed. The phrase 'all fur coat and no knickers' springs to mind. A place trading off its looks and location. Overall poor value. We may give it another chance, but not for a while.

Wonderful stay at the Pig at Bridge Place in December 2024. The setting is beautiful, the restaurant is great and the overall vibe of the hotel is very cosy & welcoming. We had an unfortunate situation with our baby son becoming unwell and the staff (especially Jamie) went above and beyond to help us out, even driving us to A&E. We felt well and truly cared for and couldn’t shout out the team or recommend the hotel more highly.

Our first time visit at THE PIG -at the bridge. We went with friends. Warm welcome by the staff from the start. Lovely restaurant atmosphere, but our table was near a window. It was a wintry night, and there was a little draft from the windows. Fortunately, this matter was dealt with promptly and professionally by Jamie, Liam, and their colleagues. The food was delicious and can't fault any of the team. Never had to go searching for staff - they were all attentive, polite, and friendly. My daughter had hot chocolate, so there were no complaints from her, enabling us to have a peaceful meal! We will bring the rest of the family next time to try this place and take photos. We didn't take any photographs this time. It's really worth a visit if you're in the area. ^_^

The Pig feels like home in the best way possible. Or perhaps staying with your really close friends. We have been to the PIG at Bridge Place four times now, and every time we feel the warmest welcome. Everyone on staff is lovely. They are friendly, helpful and can recommend things to do in the area and dishes to try, as well as little touches that make your stay feel so personal. The restaurant, of course, is absolutely delicious, and everything is fresh and the ingredients are beautiful. But what makes the restaurant a favourite for us - and our family - is that it feels relaxed and warm. The food is excellent and so is the service, but it never feels stuffy or unfomfortable. It's a place to relax, unwind, and enjoy yourself. We came most recently for both Christmas and New Year's Eve at the Pig. The ten day stay went by far too fast, but it was turly magical. The Christmas decor, delicious mulled wine, and warm fires in the lounge and bar make you feel festive from the moment you step in. Definitely take some time to enjoy a drink by the fire! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The larder has lovely treats - try a pig cocktail, it's too good to be true. Christmas itself was splended. There were carolers on Chirstmas eve in the bar, which was really special. On the Day, we did lunch with the family at the restaurant and it includes little crackers and mulled wine as well as so much food that the four of us were even full the next day, although save a bit of room for the Christmas buffet in teh evening. Turkey sandwiches, ham, beef, and delicious salads and desserts make it feel again like you are visiting your best friend, who happens to be a chef. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the PIG, so let me just end by saying, the people make it wonderful. We want to say special thanks to Sophie, Poppy, Claire and Camilla who helped us so much - even when I got confused about our check-out date. They really make your stay easy, breezy and fun. Thank you!

we have been to The Pig a few times and they accommodated our party of 9 very well- such a beautiful setting- it took an extremely long time to get food, almost an hour from ordering was too long and this was exacerbated by the atrocious seating that his Pig uses. The seats are bare metal strips - rather like patio furniture with a small cushion to sit on- nothing for your back- they are simply the worst seats I have ever had to sit on - I had tp get up and walk around to try to get circulation- I did suggest to the waiter- who was charming- that one of the management should sit in one of these horrors for 90 minutes. Otherwise it is an absolutely brilliant experience.

The venue is very nice, with lots of grounds where they grow the veg and where the animals are kept. We were a group of 4 who went for lunch, there was only two slots left when we booked so was expecting the restaurant to be packed. The restaurant was busy but there were plenty of tables empty. We didn’t get starters and was offered bread, we had sourdough but they did not provide any butter or anything to eat this with, which we found quite strange. Two people on our table had the special which was sirloin steak, it came with chips which we were guessing were cooked a couple of times as they were quite dark. The steak was nice but not worth £85! Other meals ordered were the pheasant and the lemon sole, with a side of steamed green veg. Green veg didn’t have any seasoning. Pheasant was nice and lemon sole was ok but full of bones! Desserts we had crumble, spotted dick, chocolate terrine and the piggy sweet treats. The piggy sweet treats cost £8 and were 6 sweets, would not recommend. Spotted dick came with a bag knob of butter on top, which made the dessert quite salty. Chocolate terrine was ok but very rich. Crumble was ok but it could have more crumb, that cost around £14. Overall the venue is lovely but the restaurant is underwhelming unfortunately, so we won’t be returning. The service charge was £25. The total bill was £214, one beer was purchased and still water.

Underwhelming and forgettable food for a restaurant that wishes o be somewhere special to eat my partner was very disappointed with our evening meal. It started with a very dark car park with poor lighting and no signage as to where to enter. We needed to get a torch out to see where we were going. When we entered the building we waited 10 minutes until someone assisted us to take us down into the restaurant. I am sure using mixed patterned plates is a choice but to me it is like eating from plates that have been bulk bought from charity shops. We enjoyed the Bacon jam on toast however we had to wait at least 40 minutes to get warm squid starter which was in no way any special then a chain Italian restaurant. Our mains Chicken dish and the lemon sole special of the day was very over seasoned and salty. The extra charged potatoes were plain boiled heritage potatoes and very under seasoned. The greens were meant to be buttered greens but were plain boiled greens. The only thing to remember is not to go to the any of The Pig restaurants again. For the price you pay it's mediocre cooking.

Unfortunately, the waiting staff are not knowledgable regarding the menu and have to keep running back to the kitchen for information. Our main courses arrived quite quickly but, unfortunately, they’d brought the wrong dish, which I accepted to avoid delay. Neither of us thought these couses were very good. The desserts were better and we enjoyed them in the lovely lounge.

This Pig hotel and restaurant is very appealing aesthetically and the interior designers have done a great job at giving the somewhat formal exterior a charming laidback style. We came for a long lunch. Overall, we appreciated the service of the main waiter ( he may have been maître d?) but there were some younger waitresses who seemed inept and slightly unpleasant - including one one young woman (in pigtails) who avoided eye contact as much as possible until with a loud “excuse me”, she finally had to respond to me asking to order a drink. At this, she promptly walked away, grim faced, saying “I’ll come back”. And she didn’t come back. Needless nor will I!

Can’t complain about the feel of the place and the location, both very good, and the waiter for our table was also good. However, the food that we had was distinctly average for the price that we paid. We ordered the lamb shoulder between 3 of us with vegetables. The lamb itself was okay, but unfortunately the gravy served with the meal ruined everything else on the plate, due to how overly salty it was. We mentioned this to the waiter and he brought over a replacement gravy, which was even worse as they had just added some red wine to it, maybe they thought we wouldn’t notice… anyway, with the bill being over £200, you would expect the gravy to at least be edible, unfortunately, it wasn’t. The chef seemed to think it was fine, and the waitress at least removed our service charge… Tip for future visitors - try the gravy before putting it on your dinner!

Had a lovely meal last week, as part of my wife & I 's birthdays/wedding anniversary celebrations. We were not disappointed! Service was unhurried & food was excellent! I had the pork loin which I can best describe as being like a fillet steak! My wife had the sea bass with purple cauliflower, which I thought was coloured with food colouring, but when we walked around the veg garden (as seen in the background of my photo) we found the purple cauliflower, definitely not food colouring! After our meal we wandered around the veg garden, which was our view from our table, next to the Nail Bourne stream. Definitely recommended! Yes, it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for & all the produce is from no more than 25 miles away, or right on the premises!

We are here today for Sunday lunch. We have eaten here before and knew how lovely the building and food was and we were not disappointed. Excellent starters and a VERY comprehensive wine list but the absolute star was the porchetta with roast dinner trimmings, which was a Sunday special. Absolutely fantastic pork and wonderful vegetables. Baby leeks, greens, mixed roast beetroot, roast carrots and a broccoli (instead of cauliflower) cheese. And a giant Yorkshire pudding. Every single bit was outstanding and in the top three roasts I’ve ever had. However half way through our meal a random waiter (not the waiter who had been attending to us for the rest of the meal) came up and, unbidden, started clapping in mine and my partners faces and, with a raised voice, saying ‘come on guys, you can do it’ over and over. I am a 37 year old , 6 foot 6 man who has, for at least a few years now, been able to eat a meal all by myself without someone clapping encouragement from the sidelines. Perhaps, I thought, he was just being over the top and misjudged his pitch, so it was put out of my mind. About 5 minutes later he was back again. This time clapping again, right in our faces and again with his pathetic encouragement. At this point I made it clear this wasn’t appreciated and he scurried off. Then he was back again once we had finished to say, incredibly condescendingly, that we had ‘let him down and he was very disappointed’. At this point I had had enough. I choked down what I really wanted to say to him and asked to move to a table in another room. At this point he moved us and I asked for tea so he said he would get a member of bar staff to take our order. No bar staff were forthcoming for the next 20 minutes. I eventually went to reception to pay and then we left. This level of pathetic play acting and over the top nonsense is what I would expect of a particularly sub standard parent encouraging their child to finish a happy meal. This is not in the slightest bit suitable for a hotel and restaurant that prides itself (at least allegedly)on quality of service , and I refuse to pay £150 for a meal to be talked to like an idiot. It was incredibly rude and were we not in such polite company I would not have held back as I did. For any management reading this review the chap in question was the boy about 5 feet tall with longish brown hair and the severe attitude problem. It’s a shame really, every other staff member was really lovely and a credit to your training regime, but this person was just a calamity from the second he clapped his way into my lunch. We were discussing our return visit just before he did and now we are booking somewhere else. I advise you to as well

First visit to the Pig after hearing great reviews. Positives: Stunning setting, wonderful house in beautiful, tranquil grounds. Menu based on local produce and decent wine list. Negatives: food slightly underwhelming for the price, tables rather too tightly packed in, Dealbreaker: oppressive service. If you have an in and out in 60 minutes policy this should be clearly stated on your bookings page and please allow guests time to swallow their final mouthful before pestering them to leave the table.

Been a few times a lovely looking place, however we went for a meal for five people, and the sides for the main course were all laced with salt. To the point our eldest did not finish his, and I felt same. Restaurant lost out as we then did not order more drinks (perhaps the tactic), nor desserts and left. Mains tasted lovely just sides laced in salt. I did not mind it, when a young staffer asked if we would take a drink before going to the restaurant (nice actually) but her right in front of us giving a big thumbs up to her colleague thinking I did not see, like 'yah I upsold' something, ruined the next 10mins for me.

We stayed in the Comfy Room which had a four posted bed and lovely views. It is quite a small room but very oldy worldy and really nice with an ensuite.Staff are very attentive but not intrusive and there are many nooks and crannies you can take yourself off to for some quiet time. The grounds are beautiful as is the main house and the kitchen garden tour at 11am is well worth doing. It is quite an expensive place to stay and breakfast and dinner were extras but this place has a lovely tranquil vibe and definitely somewhere we will go to stay again.

Having heard positive reviews about the Pig at Bridge I was looking forward to having lunch there but was very disappointed. The portions were tiny, our cauliflower cheese came in a small dish with barely enough for one person. On top of the cauliflower were the roast potatoes these should have been in a separate dish! There was no apple sauce with our pork, we had to ask for it. When it came it was in the tiniest of dishes for 3 of us to share. Very overpriced for not even what I would call child size portions. Will not be returning or recommending.

Nice birthday lunch. Good food, service a bit hit and miss. Nice ambience finished our drinks in the sitting room with lovely views. High prices for non alcoholic drinks and 20% spoiled the taste a bit but overall a happy birthday in a beautiful venue.

A family favourite treat so we came here for my Dads 80th birthday, and wow, we had the best time. From the moment the door was opened and a wonderful warm welcome given, to the fab food and super fab staff, it really made a special day even more special. We all went home, happy and stuffed. Thanks to all the team at The Pig, you’re all amazing 👍

Excellent food and service, great venue. We were advised to visit here but couldn’t get in this evening so went for a late lunch. The food was all local and really tasty. Portions were a good size (huge pork chop) but didn’t feel overstuffed.

Yet again, another outstanding meal at The Pig. The service is the best from reception until you leave the building, the attention to detail by every member of the team is phenomenal. Food, perfect, ingredients all locally sourced & the wine list, to die for! We prefer the Pig to its Michelin neighbours & in kent, we’ve eaten at them all. Please don’t ever change, you have it just right in every way & it’s a joy to eat there.

Celebration meal out for seven people. Ate a combination of the pork, root stew, chicken and scallops with combination of sides including chips, greens also crispy onions and beetroot ( the last two were lovely). Combination of drinks. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere.

Lovely building excellent staff warmly welcomed. This was our third visit and the food was disappointing, I have to say this desire to have the biggest Yorkshire puddings is just silly, my pork had a strangely unpleasant taste to it and there was an abundance of garlic flavoured beetroot on the plate.

Another great experience at The Pig. Pleasant drink in the cosy bar with its wood burner before being shown to the restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff went the extra mile to accommodate my lactose intolerance and the food didn’t disappoint. This is a special place!

This is our 4th visit to The Pig. The food was excellent as always and a great ambiance. However, we were a little disappointed with the service this time. It was very slow in places. We had to wait quite a while to be asked what we would like to drink, which then took ages to arrive. They did kindly agree to serving a birthday cake for us after our dessert. However, we had to ask 6 times for them to bring it out and a further 3 times for them to bring our bill. At times there wasn’t a waiter to be seen in the top end of the restaurant. It was still a nice lunch but the service was frustrating and did take the edge off what is a usually a very good experience.

Incredibly beautiful hotel! We stayed at the hop pickers hut which was delightful. The room was perfectly laid out with a wood stove, a comfy large armchair and a writing desk along with the king size bed (or even larger), a bath right in the room, and of course a shower and a toilet. The toiletries were all provided in the room. So was the tea, coffee and biscuits. The bar and restaurant area in the main house are stunning and so lovely to just sit and relax at. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was delicious. There was a choice of cooked breakfasts options along with the buffet and cereal options. All the staff was very nice, attentive and helpful.

The hotel is lovely, our room was very tastefully created and made a refreshing change from the well-know hotel chains with their identical layouts and colour schemes. A lot of thought has gone into it. The staff were polite and courteous and the hotel has inviting grounds with a stream and raised vegetable beds showing their commitment to local grown produce. So far so good.... but oh, dear. The food served in the evening can only be described as a disappointment. The menu is not very inspiring leaving us struggling to chose. When it did arrive it just lacked flavour. Roast chicken and mashed potatoes was exactly as described, two very large pieces of chicken breast balanced on a mound of potato with a gravy. The Sea Bass with Carrots was a large portion of carrots with the small piece of over-cooked sea bass balanced on the top. The chefs have superb facilities and access to so much local produce that there can be little excuse. Please, please, make the menu and the food interesting and exciting. When my wife says "I can cook better than that" and she can, then unfortunately we won't be rushing back. You can do so much better, please employ someone with a passion for food.

We came here for lunch today (Thursday) and having never been to Pig before were thoroughly impressed. The building is lovely. Set in very pretty grounds and with a first rate kitchen garden. We sat in the bar for a pre meal drink and had a lovely cocktail. Bar staff (in fact all staff) were friendly and welcoming but not over the top. When we were shown through to lunch the dining room had a slightly different atmosphere to the bar area, much more lively. I would say that perhaps the music was too loud and the chairs not at all comfortable, but aside from those minor points it cannot be faulted. Service again was unpretentious and friendly and super helpful. Menu was varied but not too long, which is always a plus in my opinion! Cooking was solid and everything was served hot and clearly very very fresh. My only complaint is that there be only just found out about it, so I could have been coming here and the other branches for years! Will absolutely come back

Sunday dinner with friends who has been previously. Went for Sunday lunch and you couldn't fault it. All food is sourced within 25 miles and they try to grow as much on site, and you are able to walk round the gardens to see. The staff were brilliant. They were so observant and helpful and were at your table in a flash if you needed anything. I think a lot of places could take some good advice from this place. My friend left her card and present behind on our table and a young waiter ran all the way out to us to give it to her (we were seeing the pigs at this point). What a hero! Very enjoyable afternoon, will visit again

We all had such a lovely visit to the WILD GOOSE today. The food was tasty and our servers attentive. It was a busy Saturday but still delivered our food timely. It was busy in the shed and quite atmospheric. My first visit but will most certainly be back. Thank you!

Booked in advance, as advised, for 2 vegan cream tea's. Turned up and were seated. Our tea arrived and 15 minutes later, when our tea was cold, our cream teas were served. Firstly the tower contraption they are delivered on is downright ridiculous, it's so tall it's face height so everyone is sitting with this thing right in front of them. One of our party is allergic to strawberries, so asked if they had an alternative, they said after checking that all their other jam contains gelatin? It wasn't a huge deal so I dashed to Marks and Spencers food hall and bought some (none of their jam contained gelatin) The scones are huge, more like rock cakes, and as soon as I cut into mine it disintegrated into crumbs and small pieces. The first vegan scone was horrible, hard and dense and was out aside . The second was heavy, claggy and undercooked. The third and fourth were edible. I've had a similar experience there before, as have many of the reviewers on Trip Advisor, clearly this establishment has zero respect for customers as the continue to turn out the same inconsistent, crumbly, huge scones... Mine came with butter, jam and cream. The vegan cream teas that were ordered in advance came with jam and vegan 'butter', or marge and no cream. Yes you read that correctly, a pre-ordered vegan cream tea served without any cream. At £15.95 it's not the cheapest cream tea, and the worst I have encountered since I last visited 10 years, I was hoping they would have improved. Vegan cream tea was charged at the same price despite it lacking any cream. The manager was fairly unimpressed when I complained, but he gave us a 50% discount which was a gesture, however it didn't make up for my family members who had been looking forward to their vegan cream teas since the day before when we'd ordered them. If you're more impressed by quantity than quality then go ahead, otherwise give it a wide berth especially if you're vegan.

Very much a Michelin experience- the food was amazing….so much so that I forgot to take photos of the mains because I was so engrossed in eating it - it was the rack of lamb cooked perfectly with an outstanding Jerusalem artichoke rosti!
