The Pig & Apple in Monmouthshire

The Pig and Apple is a really nice little restaurant on a farm in the beautiful hills above Monmouth. Although they sell burgers and fried chicken, you wouldn't really call it "fast food", it's just simple food cooked and presented excellently. They've got a waiting list as long as your arm - you need to book weeks in advance and it's easy to see why. Well worth a visit, great for families, couples and groups. Car needed though...They also do take away! Update: Amazing sticky chicken! That sauce on the chicken is ridiculously good - they could honestly sell it in jars!....in fact, if the owners read this, please do that! :D

Outstsnding food and generous portions! Definitely recommend trying to reserve indoor seating though! Despite being end of August it was cold and blustery out on the picnic benches. Maybe consider bringing you own blankets if you are visiting (or suggest outdoor propane patio heaters may be a good provision for vendor in the future?).

We hadn't been able to book a table when we rang ahead, but were told we could sit outside. When we arrived we went into the Silver Circle gin distillery which is adjacent. We could order our drinks and food from the Pig & Apple and before the food arrived we were invited in to the main building as they had a table unexpectedly available. Our food was delicious, although we definitely over ordered. The Moldovan Pinot Grigio was great and very reasonably priced. Will.return for sure..

We came here as part of a pre-booked event and it really didn't disappoint. There was live music and plenty of people around to create a lovely afternoon/evening. I'd heard that the food was fantastic and it really was. I had a sticky chicken burger and it was sensational. I then washed it down with a few cocktails 😄 The drinks on offer were also very varied. Loads of choice. This was my first time visiting and I will definitely be going back. Apparently you have to book early to avoid disappointment.

The food does taste good but the staff were unaccomodating, told us we had 5 minutes to decide to order then gave us 20 minutes to eat it. We had young kids including a newborn and come from an hour away. We picked an outdoor area because it was warm but the chickens kept jumping up at the food on the benches, and deficated on the table where our food was. Someone else's dog was chasing the chickens and knocked my daughter off the edge of the bench. People were practically stood watching me feed my baby. Awful experience and won't be coming back.

I have been trying and failing for TWO years to book a table here and my lucky day came this week when I managed to secure a takeaway slot. Me and my partner trekked for 2 hours and then devoured the most amazing food in the car park in less than 40 minutes. I feel compelled to write my first ever review after finally eating at The Pig and Apple. Wow. We had one beef burger and one chicken burger and we both came to the conclusion it was the best we’d ever had. Not only was it packed with flavour and dripping in sauce, at no point did ours burgers lose their structural integrity in our hands. The perfect ratio of sauce, bread, and salad. The truffle fries are some of the best we have ever eaten, packed with flavour and not stingy on the portion size at all. My partner usually eats enough for a small village and we still ended up with leftovers. Also very nice eating in the car park opposite a field of cows! If you are lucky enough to get a booking here, EAT EVERYTHING. I will definitely be coming back, hopefully in less than two years.

Managed to get a table early on a Thursday evening as the place always gets booked up over the weekends. Definitely worth the wait! Absolutely lush burgers served by friendly and attentive staff.

Our son treated us to a meal at The Pig and Apple after seeing the reviews. Would highly recommend it to other families and friends. The food was good quality, nice and hot and really filled you up. A good selection of beef, chicken and veggie burgers. There were some desserts on offer but we were too full for those.

Probably the most awesome burger I’ve ever had, and great fries also. A little remote and actually on the farm in an old barn, but this adds to the experience. You need to book months in advance.

Before booking, I had enquired about hie long we had the table for, and was told 1 hour 45 minutes. Unlike an earlier booking I had on a Friday evening, this information wasn't given in the confirmation email. We were not told any different when we arrived at the restaurant. At 4.33pm, we were approached by a waitress and told they would need the table back in about 5 minutes - although frustrating, as this is less time than we'd anticipated, it wasn't the end of the world as we were almost finished. 2 minutes later, the same waitress appeared and told us we had to leave as the table was needed. As well as being quite unnecessary, the second interruption came across very rude and made us feel most unwelcome. Not at all professional. After finishing our meals, the table was cleared...we were not offered dessert or asked if we would like anything else. My son called the waitress back to order dessert - she took his order, then walked away before I had chance to order mine. Surely common courtesy would say that if 1 person in a party is having dessert, you check with the others also. Although the food was amazing, the service on this occasion was not at the level I would expect, and put a bit of a dampener on the occasion.

First time visiting this place. A very beef-tastic experience. Tasty food, only downside was the bacon slightly over cooked and tough to chew. Drink prices are very reasonable too and lots of options to choose from. For the price, you can’t go wrong. Standard price of a fast food outlet these days is £10 for a meal, so why not pay a little extra and visit a great place like this and enjoy some tasty, juicy dripping burger goodness. Also great to support local business and not those pesky food chains! It certainly will not break the bank! Overall, a very nice venue, great service from the staff, very cosy and warm, great for couples to have a meal and quiet chat… or families alike too! Would I return, most definitely. A solid 8/10 overall.

Absolutely amazing place to eat, local farm. The food was amazing, great quality and the flavour, amazing.

It only took us 11 mins to drive here from Monmouth but I would have driven an hour and 11 mins. This is an absolutely “must visit”. Situated in a converted barn a few miles outside Monmouth I couldn’t believe we hadn’t discovered the Pig and Apple earlier. The atmosphere is great with the restaurant full when we got there, apparently it’s like it every day they open. The conversation is authentic with the use of recycled materials in a way you don’t get with town centre “rustic” restaurants. No matter how nice the surroundings it’s all about the food. I’ve attached some pictures, see for yourselves it tasted even better than it looked. Great value for money. We will go back again and again when we can get a table!

Booked lunch here as we were pumpkin picking locally and haven’t been since Covid. The food was very good, we had a blue cheese burger, buffalo strips, and loaded fries. Everything was superb 👌

If you haven't already been here & tried possibly the best tasting burgers ever then what the hell are you waiting for. Book a table, enquire about a takeaway or just blag your way & hope for the best. But beware... Once you've tried their burgers & speciality fries every other burger joint will seem second rate.

I can not thank the pig & apple enough for creating a lovely evening for such a large group of us. Very accommodating and having to pre order set such ease for the large group to get there food with no issues. This was the first time I have ever been out for food and not one person out of 28, had a bad meal, we all had such delicious food. One of the best chicken burgers I’ve ever had. Visiting Art in Penallt at Humble Farm and just had to try out this well recommended cafe. It did not disappoint. My blue cheese burger was amazing - lovely moist meat in a good bun with lashings of sweet chilli jam and runny cheese. My sister had the pork and apple burger and the unctious food was well worth a very short wait in great surroundings. Sticky fingers yes, but it was finger licking good. Sadly it is some distance from home so unable to pop back without planning a trip, but a great place, well set up and with an outside eating area for fine weather dining. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food is very well priced with one of these mouth watering burgers at around £8.50. The chips looked good but the man sized burger really didn't need trimmings. Would that it was closer to my home but I can always look forward to another day out, ensuring that I do so on a day when The Pig & Apple is open.

AMAZING ! Fabulous area, very relaxed, delicious food, great atmosphere. My children loved it here, they were entertained with the animals before and after food. Thank you so so much! We shall be back very soon.

28 mile round trip to find the Pig & Apple on the off chance that without booking we would get a table without booking, and we’re happy to wait. When we arrived (Friday 11/08/23) the place was closed, although it was meant to be open from Thursday - Saturday. Tried calling the mobile number on the website and a rather abrupt message advised that the number dialled was only for texts or contact them on Facebook! Further more there seems to be an issue with the booking system on the website as seem to be booked for the next millennium!

Absolutely delicious burgers and loaded fries. Be warned the portions are huge, so arrive hungry. Deserts looked good too but no room (managed to refrain from taking any home). Lovely and clean premises, no sticky tables here. Thoroughly recommend, yum yum yum!

I booked here for my husbands birthday as we've heard nothing but good things about the burgers, and he's a burger lover. I was a bit worried being vegan that I wouldn't be able to have a good meal here but I worried over nothing. I messaged ahead and was told they do vegan options, on the day the staff were great, friendly and knowledgable. All the vegetarian burgers could be made vegan! They even had vegan cheese so it wasn't just removing any animal products they actually had alternatives. I had the homemade mushroom and butterbean burger it was lovely but the highlight for me was my side of salt and pepper smiley faces! Sooo good! and cooked to perfection! I'm still craving them now! My husband had the Korean BBQ fries and the Jess' loaded cluckin' and really enjoyed both! Very generous portions he couldn't finish his. Only negatives which I feel the food and service overrides is there was a little mix up when we arrived, our table was given to a table who had arrived before us with more guests than they book but it was quickly sorted. Also no vegan dessert, not that I could have fitted it in! Overall very enjoyable, great to have options for vegan in a place you wouldn't assume would and to have 3 options is even better! We will be booking again.

Have dined at The Pig & Apple on numerous occasions. The burgers are always great, the dishes are consistently good, the staff are all great. The portion sizes are very generous. Be warned, you have to expect to book many weeks in advance, buy keep an eye on the restaurants Facebook page. I

Excellent service. Great location. Located (literally) in the middle of a working farmyard down a quiet lane in Monmouthshire. Having said that, really easy to access. Arriving on the edge of the farm buildings, you make your way past the edible garden and into the middle of the farm buildings, many of which contained livestock in varying stages of growth, from young piglets, through goats to a full on mature herd of cattle, complete with farmyard noises and smells, it may be a bit of a suprise for city folk. The restaurant is located in a barn, with a suitably rustic decor, wood burner heating and is very much what you see is what you get. P&A works on two sittings per night, it's well worth (and good manners) to arrive early. Outside seating is available. The menu is varied(meat and Vega/veggi), although visiting a farm burger joint then eating veggie is anathema to me! Each to their own. The burgers are all generous and very well priced, with a new range of extras. Be very careful when ordering - it's easy to overdo it! Drinks are a good selection of beers wines and ciders with a local flavour. There are desserts for the brave! Basically, a great value, mid priced quirky rural destination venue, probably the best burgers in the area, worth a visit.
