The Pier Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire

a wonderful venue for this humble meal. batter on the fish was average if not slightly under cooked. chips were okay. peas good. too much butter on the bread. and the vinegar, why oh why would anyone dilute vinegar. so if you want average this is the place to be, the score would have been to if not for the venue it was eaten in.

Once again enjoyed a lovely fish and chip supper at the Cleethorpes Papa’s Fish and Chips. Always friendly staff but in particular Sophie and Lelah. Always smiling, can’t do enough to make sure the service is excellent. They are a credit to the company.

We go here every December just before New Year. The best fish I have ever tasted. It’s the batter - so light and crispy. I used to prefer it when the staff came to the table and took your order - however, you now need to go and place your order at the bar or better - at the till. The place is kept nice and clean throughout and staff are smart and friendly - mainly young ladies and gentlemen. Our order did take a while to come but it was exceptionally busy. However, we were brought an extra round of drinks over - a lovely gesture. We left our waiter a £10 tip. She was absolutely over the moon. I don’t think the staff get as many tips now that you pay up front for your meals. We were glad to make her day. Will be returning again as usual - it’s a must for us.

Excellent service, our server Jake were very kind and made our experience lovely. We got a free desert for a family member whose birthday it was which was Absolutly lovely. The food was also incredible, all round a brilliant experience

We had a great meal at papas. We didn’t have to wait long for our food. Great service from our waitress Sophie. We Will definitely come back next time we’re at Cleethorpes.

For a start the place was not warm, food served on cold plates peas just warm fish ok as was the chips but soon got cold even cup and saucers were cold. Very disappointing. I had a large fish but looked same size as my wife’s medium so overall for a bill of £34.54 very disappointing, a lot of basic errors. Costly mistakes for us!

What an amazing place this is. If you've never been here you are missing out. The best fish and chips that we've ever had and at our age we've eaten plenty. The batter is amazing as is the quality of the fish and seafood. The calamari was out standing. Really tasty and not over cooked. As for the haddock and scampi, these are simply the best. We come from the West coast of Scotland and are used to good seafood but this was excellent. Last Sunday their new hot water facility broke down and the staff told us that we couldn't get tea with our meals and for us no tea with a fish supper was a disaster, we almost begged for a brew and guess what somehow we got one, a pot of Yorkshire's finest tea. A big thank you to the staff too. Every single person we met was polite, cheery and very hard working. We hope you are all appreciated by the management. You deserve to be especially your chefs. Thank you.

The Service, was first class. Courtney served us at the table. Was outstanding all the time? Interacted with our granddaughter. Granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed it we will be back. Granddaughter said 10 out of 10

We found the whole experience visiting papas first rate. The food was very good but above everything the staff were fantastic. All of them, without exception, were so friendly and helpful that they could not do enough for you. Would highly recommend. What a welcome! We were a large group who hadn't booked but that was no issue. Service was quick and every member of staff was so friendly. The battered halloumi was a revelation, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Josephine checked in with us regularly, nobody rushed us away even though it was a busy day, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely dining experience.

Went to Papas for my 80th birthday with my Husband Daughter Granddaughter & her Partner for lunch. The food was excellent the men had the extra large fish & chips whilst us Ladies had large with extra sides of white bait and halloumi. My thanks to Leanne who looked after us so well & made my day.

We have been to various Papas restaurants and visited the Cleethorpes one again today. There was an issue when our order arrived but Courtney immediately addressed the issue and resolved it to our satisfaction. The fish and chips were as good as ever but it was Courtney's customer care that made the difference. We cannot praise Courtney highly enough and she is an asset to Papas. We will be returning.

A very different type of chippy restaurant. The waiting team were very nice and friendly. The food was nice and certainly large portions. The only downside was we went in the evening and the place was quite dirty by then and the tables were sticky and there was a fair bit of food on the floor. Definitely worth a visit just to see the past grandeur of the pier.

First time trying here and I use a large road mobility scooter, plenty of space, all staff from wait,servers,cleaners were amazing and helpful, food was beautiful, had to wait 15 mins for a table as they were mega busy, had a little wait for food but we didn't mind as we had a drink to pass the time and they apologised, nothing was too much trouble, would definitely return, all staff so friendly and welcoming they are hard working and never stopped and didn't mind having to make adjustments for the scooter etc thank you for such a pleasant meal out 😊

We visited as a family with a baby. The food was absolutely amazing, so fresh and tasty! Customer service was excellent with special mentions to Sean and Lesley who were very accommodating, helpful and very nice people.

Slow service and very poor fish. We were giving them one last chance as we used to love it here. We were a group of 4 and only had a short wait to be taken to a table. It wasn’t busy so we opted to make the most of the weather and sit outside. We placed our order at the bar then sat chatting. After roughly 20 minutes we realised we hadn’t got drinks yet. A couple who came and sat on the next table had been there approximately 5 minutes and got their drinks, obviously at that point we asked where our drinks were. They then came after a couple of minutes. When the meal came (we all had fish & chips, the fish looked lovely until you cut into them. They were so thin! Mostly batter. My Husbands fish was very brown on the bottom and ridiculously dry. No one came to ask how the meal was so we just made the best of it. A tip for the staff… it’s really not nice having to queue to wait to be shown to a table in a narrow corridor when it’s where people exit and it’s right outside the disabled toilet! Wouldn’t it be better having people stand in the space near the doors into the lounge area like you used to do! We have already said next time our friends visit we will go elsewhere. Shame as like I said they loved going there too.

Average is about right. This place is so unpredictable it’s funny. One day they are truly good and the next they are shabby. They need to up theirs game here. Lots of good competition in the town!

Great fish and chips and service with a smile. Leanne and Lauren were brilliant, moving us to a table that accommodated crutches so that we were not tripping anybody up. Haddock and Chips was delicious (probably too much though). Whoever said that the young are workshy and lazy have never been in this restaurant when it is full, all servers were pleasant, smiling and very busy. We didn't wait too long, a wait is to be expected when you see a restaurant this full. Many thanks, See you again.

Good location and lovely views. Servers were all very pleasant. Outstanding servers goes to Jake and Lauren. Delightfull young people who appeared to enjoy the work they do and that reflected on the service. I found portions a bit to much for me and ends of fish dry which could be avoided by pre cutting those straggly bits off prior to cooking. Size is not always best.

Dinner time visit for me and my daughter. Ordered the seafood platter. ( scampi ,whitebait,and calamari) and a medium fish and chips to share. Looked after by Jake and Leanne . The food came reasonably quickly and we set about enjoying the seafood feast the curry and mushy peas sides tasted good. Everything was right the fish was perfect and cooked spot on. I was just enjoying this when leanne checked in . I had noticed that our seafood platter was missing calamari. So asked why though we were really enjoying what had arrived. Leanne enquired in the kitchen and discovered that the calamari had run out . She then made every attempt to rectify the kitchens error. Offering complimentary food or drinks to correct the omission. My daughter had a drink and as I was driving and enjoying my 1 pint of Guinness allowed I opted for some more scampi. This was brought out quickly and we enjoyed the remainder of the meal. Normally such omissions would result in lost stars , but leanne in particular had done her best to remedy the issue. Customer service is about looking after the customer and the personal touch. I deleted one star for the cook who thought he could get away with short changing the Customer. Had we been told we would've just had additional scampi anyway.. but an additional star for the excellent customer service from leanne and Jake

Ordered medium haddock and chips and 2 sides for my partner and myself. Food came out cold! The entire order had to be replaced, however, sides didn’t appear which we had to wait for. Food was a little warmer but cold by the time our sides came out. We were offered a voucher, I can guarantee I will not be eating anything here again. Waste of £40

This is the second time we have experienced the same problem, we made a booking for 2 pm was 2.20 before we got a table we were a party of 3 adults a five year old and 18 month twins - we were put on a table for 4 with no room to put the high chairs. We had put on our booking that we neesed 2 highchairs but were told the waiter could only find 1 would that do! No it wouldn't we have two toddlers! Luckily a waitress, Leanne, notice and found us a larger table and another high chair. We placed our order 2.30, we waited, and waited - Leanne again noticed and went to see where our order was - we finally got food at 3.45. The changing room and toilets were disgusting and when people were complained nothing was done to rectify this. We were not the only ones complaining - when people were coming in to get a table they are told there is a 30-40 minute wait - nothing is mentioned about the 30-40 minutes you then wait for your food. Apparently our order had also got lost. Food was OK but there are better places in Cleethorpes. Would have give the 1 star apart from our waitress Leanne who looked after us as much as she was able - she was lovely and getting flack from other customers who were also disgruntled. Will not be going back.

Love going to Papas. We decided to sit in the restaurant which was lovely and clean. We both ordered fish and chips with a side of curry sauce. Our waitress, Charlie, was very attentive and our food was served up very quickly and efficiently. The fish tasted so fresh and the batter was lovely and crisp. The chips were cooked perfectly (nice and soft inside but crispy outside). The curry sauce was great as always. All of the staff were friendly and we were greeted by Leanne on arrival. She always makes you feel at ease and although efficient....she always has time for her customers. The whole atmosphere is very homely and relaxed. Will be back soon. Top marks !

We visited here today as a family of 7, like any place there was things that could be improved like the toilets for instances needed some attention. However I was blown away by the staff here. They were constantly sweeping floors ensure everyone was comfortable and having an enjoyable experience. When we arrived we were seated by Courtney who was very pleasant and asked us about our weekend. Unfortunately it hasn’t been the best weekend due to a family bereavement. Courtney was incredibly empathetic and brought us some complementary drinks which was very thoughtful. Once we had ordered Jake brought our cutlery to the table and my sister in law asked if there was any fruit shoot type drinks for the children or straws. Jake explained the situation and we thanked him. Within minute he returned to the table with the last 2 children’s drinks that were in today and apologised that there was no straws. Amazing amazing service. Not just 1 but multiple staff members going above and beyond. I’m immensely impressed. Well done Courtney and well done Jake. Fab job!

Lovely staff, Leanne was so friendly and helpful - we had a couple of issues with our order when it came but she sorted everything out so quickly, and the food was lovely. Pre booked tables as we were a large party of 31 and were accommodated very well and seated at the time booked. The ordering system needs improvement, it wasn’t made clear to us that we needed to order food at the bar. On the menu it stated a QR code ordering system but on trying to use this it didn’t work, the lady looking after us informed us that it doesn’t work so you need to queue up at the tills. There was only two tills to do this and long queues. Despite the wait to order, the food came relatively quickly and was fresh and hot. Portion sizes were very generous and there was plenty. Overall, good value for money, lovely fish and chips and accommodating to a very large party. Better use of staff to take orders or more ordering and payment stations would be beneficial during busy periods or get the QR ordering system working.

On the evening we visited, it was fairly busy but it was very short staffed due to some issues, however it did not affect the service or the food. The manager was very friendly and we had a big round table as there was a large number of us. Food was delicious and came out in good time. The staff member that looked after us all evening was Steph, she was so polite and made sure we had everything we needed. A really good evening had by all.

I was warmly greeted by Ty on arrival and seated at a window table overlooking the beach. So that was a good start. I ordered the cod and chips and a pint of Coors to wash it down. Drink and Food were served promptly by Ty with whom I got into a discussion about the mighty Grimsby Town FC adding to the very enjoyable experience of fish & chips by the seaside.

Food was good value for money, will say one sausage (breakfast size) on the kids meal and the smallest glass of pop you could get was a bit tight for the price. I mean my small fish and chips had less chips on the plate than his kids meal? But still nice food. Steph the girl who served and seated us was lovely, really chatty and friendly. Would come back but just skip the kids meal and get a regular meal, kids food not worth the money.

Had a great experience yesterday, due to being good Friday it was really busy however our customer service from Sam and Marcos was above and beyond! Fast service, very helpful and made a big fuss of my little one making him a super ice cream! The food was absolutely fantastic, fish was fresh and chips cooked perfectly! Went Wednesday,March 20th for lunch, just me & the missus. Ordered 2 x Cod & chips, 2 x Curry Sauces, Bread & butter, tea for 2. Having already paid at the desk the not inexpensive amount of £37 something, we sat down and were served our tea relatively quickly. We noticed that the cutlery hadn't been cleaned properly and the teapot was stained on the outside. The main meal arrived, the cod was more batter than fish, the chips were disgusting. Lots were black, a new potato supplier is needed. One curry sauce would have sufficed, but it wasn't nice, no flavour, too dark. All in all the experience was disappointing, a waste of money. They need more staff and a kick up the bum. Rating 4/10

Went to pappas for a meal with family 13 all together every one had a great meal and was made more enjoyable by our waitress Steph a very pleasant young lady who was etremely pleasant and attentive nothing was to much trouble for her

Drove from Sheffield to cleethorpes for a fish and chip lunch looked on line to confirm papas was open? Yes👍 11.30 opening great waited out door the doors opened at 11.30 to be greeted by a member of staff,We Are Closed. There’s a sign at the pier entrance stating we are closed. sorry there Was no sign and the 15 other potential customers where as dissatisfied with the staff’s attitude and the fact No sign was at all on display.this place needs avoiding stall cost and spend your money where you are welcomed and not treated like a farm animal

Great location on the pier and lots of space. We ate in the restaurant but there is also takeaway. Fish and chips were well cooked and presented, with prompt service. On the pricey side but it is worth it

Went out for the day in Cleethorpes and decided to stop by at papas for fish and chips the restaurant was chilly but that was ok as when the food arrived it was delicious! The large cod wasn't too dry and the chips were cooked to perfection. The chip shop platter was perfect especially the fishcake which went down well with some bread and butter. The staff too were amazing served by ty and Layla, making sure everything was ok for us. Overall I would recommend papas fish and chips the food the staff and the environment is amazing. I just think that maybe the restaurant could be a little warmer

We had a very nice lunch at Papas Cleethorpes Pier . Our food was hot very tasty and delicious. The staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble for them in particular Marcos and Jack both gave great customer service and had a friendly manner.

We always come to Papa’s in Cleethorpes for family birthdays. The staff are always so lovely and kind and are happy to sing Happy Birthday and bring out a cake with candles on if we give it to them. The food is wonderful. We love it here. Marcos and Stella really went above and beyond tonight for my son’s 7th birthday. They made him feel really special. What lovely people, it’s why we keep coming back.

The staff here were brilliant and very attentive to not only our needs but our sons needs also. I would highly recommend coming here as the food was excellent and the service even better with particular praise to Marcus who was absolutely fantastic.
