Sourdough with starter was like a rock, tried to cut, all over the table. Main course fish was average. Main course was lukewarm, cous cous was cold and clumpy, flat bread was like cardboard, salad was fine! Expensive, didn’t complain but would never return or recommend

Went for a special birthday with 11 people 6 days ago. Allergies were on the whole catered for with one having salad that was asked to be removed. Both the steak and Haloumi burgers strangely came smothered in Marie rose sauce. Not very appetising. The roast beef was fine but all the vegetables were cold on arrival. I don't think broccoli that is turning yellow should have been served. Desserts were fine but the only child in our party didn't receive her ordered ice cream. Staff were great at bringing out the birthday cake and plates afterwards. When we went to pay they didn't seem interested in our complaints.

It was my grandsons birthday so all the family went out for afternoon tea. My grandson is a finicky eater so he had goujons and chips. His food was served on a stand like the rest of us so he didnt feel left out. The ladies who served us were brilliant and to everyones surprise my grandson wanted more of the same one lady serving us ensured that he got exactly the same again ( The Chef was going to hand make some ) she understood that some children have issues with food which was brilliant. The food was good as always but the staff were excellent and added to the very good time.

Came with my family this evening for Sunday dinner. The staff were really welcoming and warm (which honestly going out to eat with kids isn't something I experience much! ). We all had 3 courses on the Sunday menu and I honestly think for the price it's pretty amazing. And I think the best part is probably being surrounded by the beautiful grounds the oaklands stands on. Will be returning soon ❤️

Service on the cool level , Kitchen shall be improved per our thoughts . Ordered starters (no issue) for child and adults, Mains for child and adults (haddock was nice , sides as well - but seafood risotto , that’s another story of todays evening , definitely not recommended), Just about risotto- feeling as it’s boiled rice placed onto seafood water , where we found it tasteless seafoods. Speaking of visual- that is first time that we’ve seen something like this . Potatoes in risotto ? But why ... Anyway to be honest to the Comfy Duck and great service of Katie B. - it was excluded of the bill . Deserts - great .

The absolutely best thing about this restaurant has got to be the staff. We were served by Caroline, who was attentive and observant, as well as friendly and personable. Adequate...... was hoping for much more from the photos and reviews I'd seen. The first thing that hit us was the smell of school dinners! This is an older building, so maybe it was.... The menu is good, some staples and some twists, and what came from the kitchen was wholesome and seemingly home made, apart from the coleslaw which definitely had a battery acid thing going on. The service was polite and efficient.

Fabulous food and excellent service, great atmosphere and good value for money. It a shame when our local venues treat their young staff with such little respect. My daughter 16 years old has been working for the Comfy Duck doing all kinds of hours for them. They have short paid her for two months. The second time was short by 22hours. When I went to see the manager he tried blaming her for not checking in and checking out correctly, however, she was confident she did sign in, after all if that’s what your pay counted on you would ensure you signed in. there was always a supervisor there who knew what she was working also. I also understand they short paid another young worker. Just want to make others aware so they are forwarded. So please feel free to eat there knowing they don’t pay their staff or share tips out fairly.

My family and I decided to eat at the Comfy Duck last weekend. What a disappointment!. After booking a table , I was shocked to find upon arrival that only one other table was occupied. Therefore I was even more shocked to find the table we were shown to had not been set. After the table was set by a pleasant waitress, I was not pleased to discover that the cutlery was dirty. A basic mistake! We chose Thai fishcakes which certainly did not appear to be homemade, arrived with a couple of sprigs of rocket. Quite frankly, I have had better tasting fishcakes from Tesco's. We followed this by roast turkey . Although the food was ok, it was nothing to write home about. Considering how it is portrayed on the website. it was nothing out of the ordinary. Also the gravy, although it was tasty it was definitely not turkey gravy, therefore it seemed alien to the meat. The Manager did not appear to acknowledge the fact we were seated in his restaurant , even when he helped to bring the meals to the table, a hello would have been nice. After all it is the hospitality industry and there are many more restaurants within the local area needing peoples custom. I feel it's such a shame as it used to be such a nice place to eat. Come on Comfy Duck pull your socks up. Unfortunately we will not be rushing back

All four of us had steak and it was excellently cooked. Accompanying hand cut chips or French Fries were also very good and the salad was a tasty selection of salads. The sweets were delicious and extremely well presented. 'Eton Mess' arrived totally different from the usual but was tremendous. Downside was the time for the food to arrive. We sat down at 6:15 and left at 9:30pm because the food took 2 hours to arrive. If we had known, we would have left. We have to add that none of the staff were wearing masks which made us feel uncomfortable, especially when few of the clients were too.

Previously we have enjoyed eating here, but were a bit apprehensive (having seen some reviews from the start of the year), as this was the first place we ate out at as a family after lockdown. The tables were all well spaced out and they had limited capacity to a small number of diners. We can only commend the chef on the food and the young man who waited on, manned the bar and dealt with other guests! Yes, there was a bit of wait, but this gave us time to chat and reassured us that the food was being freshly prepared. When the food came it was very enjoyable. Well done and well worth a visit.

Food was OK but service was slow with not so attentive waiting staff. Most concerning was the lack of obvious COVID precautions. Staff used no PPE and leant across diners. No hand sanitiser at the entrance after needing to push or pull open the heavy entrance doors. Disappointing (and worrying) that a hotel chain the size of Best Western don’t have a better grip and appreciation of these important precautions.

This was one of our first trips to dine out after lockdown. We felt completely comfortable and safe with good social distancing and a beautifully presented clean hotel. The afternoon tea was excellent, with a triple cake stand full of goodies, including a mini fish and chips (gorgeous white moist fish) a soup, sausage roll and quiche. There was also a good selection of cakes and scones with copious amounts of tea available. We ate this meal around 2pm - a sort of late lunch/afternoon tea, certainly glad I only had a small brekky! Lovely gardens, attentive service, would recommend this for a very pleasant celebration. There was a small wedding party enjoying the afternoon tea, what a great idea in these times of 30 only guests allowed. Super day!

This was my first and indeed my last visit to this establishment, apart from the poor service and the cold mashed potato ( this was replaced by mashed potato that was hot after complaining) that was served after a considerable wait after ordering, the food was not at its best and very overpriced. From the Home comforts Main course I had Teriyaki Salmon priced at £16.95p, i expected a small portion but when it was served it would have been the size of a starter definately not a main course, we all remarked that the childrens menu at £8.95 was better value, indeed the portion of the sausage childrens meal was far larger than the Teriyaki Salmon adults main course.

I had the fish and chips off the menu as I had been before and my daughter and grandchildren had fish before and it always looked very nice ...this time all 3 of us could not eat it the fish had a strange taste and the chips were certainly NOT fresh cut chips . This is not a cheap restaurant to eat and safe to say we will not be returning and felt embarrassed to have taken family members from away to this place . Approaching the building from the outside is quite attractive (until you notice the ugly motel structure they have completely unsympathetically attached to a lovely old hall) . Inside is tacky in the reception , bar actually looks ok but the restaurant itself in grave need of renovation. All these things are less important if they serve top notch food. They don’t. In fact they really don’t get close to that standard. Prawn cocktail not as described ( where was the tempura prawn on top.?) in fact a handful of poor quality defrosted small prawns (like what you get for a quid in morrisons) and some bread with iceberg lettuce. Scallops bit chewy but not too bad. No great imagination in the wine list either especially if you like a nice rose and what they had was quite pricey. Mains ...wife had lamb shank which was actually pretty good and we ended up having to share. I had rib eye steak which I couldn’t even cut let alone chew . Worst piece of meat I have been served in a very long time. The chips which I was led to believe were home made were certainly not . Sent it back and wasn’t charged for the steak but nothing else , no gesture , no reduction , manager clearly not interested , chef clearly not bothered. You really can’t serve up such rubbish in drab surroundings and expect people to come. Please don’t come by the way , it’s not good and it’s not even very cheap. There is a greggs on the roundabout nearby ...my dinner , sausage rolls ....mmmmmm....what a night out all thanks to Oakland’s. Please avoid this place , it’s depressing to give up a night out to them .

However this evening we were greeted warmly by the staff, there was a nice atmosphere and the food choice and quality was excellent. I chose Lamb Shank and my husband the beef. Both were presented beautifully, cooked so they were tender and tasted delicious. 1 small point, why I didnt rate it 5 was the vegetables, described as roasted root veg and were tiny squares of veg that I could hardly taste.

Nice food but for the price not worth it in terms of the ambience / general surroundings in the restaurant . Took about 5 minutes waiting while one member of staff was serving others at the bar , not ideal when you’re 38 weeks pregnant and struggling to stand for periods of time . I felt for the staff member but wasn’t sure why they had only one person dealing with the bar and the restaurant. Lovely service when he was available though . Overall I would expect more for the prices on the menu so wouldn’t go back unless something very enticing was on the menu I wanted to try .

Me and a friend decided to venture out to the comfy duck (approx a 40 min drive away), and we were, safe to say, extremely disappointed! For the price it was (£16.95 each) it was a rip off! we received two finger sized sandwiches which were as it says- finger sized! We also received luke warm soup which tasted lovely but was barely warm. a just warm sausage roll, a piece of dry stale brioche, a tiny mince pie (with minimal mince maybe half a tea spoon), tiny macaron (no bigger than 3cm) and a small pana cotta with a shortbread biscuit. This may sound a lot, but the items were very very small and this did not fill the two of us. We expressed our concerns to the waiter, and asked if the bill could be reviewed as the bill came to £34 and this was a joke for the lack of food presented. He went and spoke to the manager and the reply was “no it’s a set price nothing can be done”. We were sat next to an older couple who had also complained about their food and received a reduction in there bill. Would definitely advise to stay away from the christmas afternoon tea!! Such a shame as we had this booked for some time and we were both really looking forward to this and had even taken the afternoon of work to take the drive out. very disappointed, would not recommend.

We had booked afternoon tea for 3.30, and wanted the festive menu. However, when we arrived, a tall gentleman was on the restaurant reception, he did not acknowledge us, so we said we had a booking. He said, very bluntly, the afternoon tea finished at 3pm. Ok, so an error somewhere. He did then produce two menus and went in to the restaurant, we presumed this meant we could go ahead. When asked, he said, yes they could do it. He then said, sparkling wine or soft drink, that’s it, just that! We looked at the menu, but it was not the festive one. He said it did not start until next week. At this point we gave up. It was not meant to be. Wrong time, wrong menu, wrong waiter!

The starter of Tempura prawns certainly were not cooked in tempura batter it was more like panko. Main of Salmon with wasabi crumb on with noodles tasted so bad I couldn't eat it. The Wasabi crumb was on top of the skin! why? Dessert of Chocolate and coffee mouse was solid with gelatine and not light and airy as a mouse should be. To be fair I was not charged for my main meal as it was not eaten. I will not be going back again Most disappointing.

As I was staying at the hotel and the menu looked very good, I decided to stay in. The relaxed vibe was pleasant, and the staff attentive. I ordered the Sea trout, with Jersey royal potatoes accompanied by samphire and spinach. The meal was perfectly cooked, the fish was incredible and I even asked the waitress how the chef cooked the samphire so well. Best of all was the price, amazing value for such good quality food. Superb!!!

Visited for evening meal whilst staying in the area. Reviews and images made it look a bit wow. Underwhelmed with the choice of offerings and atmosphere - granted it was a Thursday night.

From the service from the staff to the food itself, you couldn't ask for a better experience. Well presented food that delivered taste, and that is all anyone can ask for.

As mentioned i reveiw of hotel we had a medical issue that delayed guests arriving and the agreed start time for the family function. Staff were great and very flexible. Having been mucked about by us with the start time we were about an hour late starting. The food was nice and fresh throughout and service continued to be good, so a very well done and thank well deserved.

As we were very impressed with last years Christmas meal, we rebooked again for our works lunch. This time we were given a private room as there were 20 of us. We all agreed that the food was very good, although again we all agreed that compared to the year before, the size of the meals were small. Last year we were given extra vegetables etc., but this year none and when we asked for extra gravy, we were charged extra for it. We will probably try elsewhere next year

We had the vegetarian option afternoon tea, which was surprisingly inventive, beautifully presented and very tasty. The surroundings are excellent - well spaced out and comfortable. The staff could not have been more pleasant, helpful, professional and friendly and everywhere seemed spotlessly clean, including the ladies toilets. I could not find anything to complain about, although there seems to be very little listed online about the history of the house and I would have been interested to learn a little more about its origins. Having said that, I would certainly recommend the venue, especially for vegetarians.

I had the pleasure of attending a 70th birthday celebration at the Comfy Duck. What fabulous hospitality the party received! Everything was perfect, we were allocated a private room at no extra charge, the menu choice was extensive, food was excellent and the service great. Can not fault this venue, and would highly recommend if you get the chance to visit.

This place has changed over the years, after last year (2023) I wasn't sure if I wanted to come back, but I'm glad it did. Myself and mostly Gluten Free family had lovely carvery. - Good Cleanliness - Decent Atmosphere - Nice Setup - Meat was cooked to perfection. 🤌🏻 There's were however a things that wasn't particularly great... - I was the only person in the line for a carvery and I watched 12 minutes go by. - The roast potatos were VERY crispy. - No more refillable drinks! I got very annoyed standing there, I have a blue badge due to my disability and my lordosis wasn't doing great but I managed. I know people that wouldn't be able to manage that kind of wait which could take away their independence. Admittedly I only had one roast potato, I like to think I pick the ones that look the best and look fluffy. But the texture and taste wasn't great. Could have been a bad pick, bad batch or just a bad day. I have really enjoyed them in the past. For a refillable drink it only cost 15p more than a regular pint of pop. 😬 So I was shocked to find that there is no more refillable.

Chicken and pepperoni pizza was a generous size and had plenty of chips too. Staff friendly, don't remember asked if our meals were OK though. Good overall though.
