Good selection of beers , excellent food and Dog friendly which makes a nice change, staff are very friendly and helpful, excellent pub, update....what they have done for Xmas 2024 is amazing 👍🏼🍺

We came to this establishment for a nice steak. Prior to an appointment I had in the area.. the staff nice people but not very attentive. I ordered the steak. I can honestly say for for £28 it came and looked like a sock on my plate… the steak itself was flavourless and had zero seasoning. The fat on the steak was almost unbearable. The pepper corn sauce was tasty but cold. And the fries were like fries to go. I would return just wouldn’t get the steak for that price.. I’d pay £12 for that meal. PLEASE SEASON YOUR STEAK

I have tried to find an email to contact directly but none evident on the website. We had a celebratory meal for 8 yesterday for my 12 year old grandson. Firstly the staff were very attentive and responded to requests for bringing out a birthday cake. The food was good, hot and plentiful, although £9 for a very small portion of calimari was steep. The main problem was the table directly behind had 6 small yappy dogs and periodically would set off a cacophony of high pitched barking. Now whilst they were cute, and I am a dog lover, dogs in the main restaurant is a definite no go for me and I definitely wasn’t expecting it, my ears are still hurting. This has definitely put me off any further visits.

Pitifully small portions. Literally a spoonful of mushy peas, fish good but way under the size that is allowed to be caught in international fishing! Waitresses eager but too young. Bar staff could not tell us what kind of beer Wainwright Gold was. Sad.

Never been here before - on the face of it seemed a decent enough pub. Staff were okay but not especially chirpy. Food came fairly quickly. My friends & I had the lunch deal for £11.50. Other reviews says the food here is good but I’m afraid this wasn’t the case here & to be honest - as well as being average quality - the small portion size left us feeling a bit ripped off. We had the leek soup with cheese sandwich. Soup was lacklustre & probably not more than a small mug full (in a bowl) but it was the sandwich that killed it ; half a cheese sandwich (made out of normal white bread) cut in half then stacked on top of each other along with some tired looking watercress. Truly bizarre ! Imagine a sandwich made out of four soldiers you’d dip in an egg. I’ll be honest - I’ve never seen anything like it. Maybe it’s trendy in Newton Le Willows ? Very disappointed but that said, based on all the other positive reviews I will return & give it another chance. Hopefully they will give me the other half of my sandwich too.

Took family for lunch. Lunchtime special is an amazingly good deal. Service was fabulous.

Lovely place with a separate dining area. Very busy place which just shows how popular it is. A little on the expensive side for a main meal, I'd say more of a treat than tea out. I had a nice shepherd's pie.

Met with friends on a number of times, always had good food and service and value for money lunch menu. Perhaps a variation on menu for winter months, I.e. hot-pot.

Beer well kept ,especially loved Tim Taylors yesterday shame had to sit outside and heaters not working. Toilets disappointed no paper, no soap, and the one toilet that was working moved as you sat on it.Try harder !After our inspection, you would fail on hygiene.

Visited for a late Sunday lunch after it being recommended by our son, and for its nearness to the railway station. The roast beef dinner was excellent, as was the service from Gracie. My only very minor complaint was that I had to ask for the loud music to be turned down, but Gracie was happy to do that for us. Two plus points - good napkins (cheap, wafer thin napkins in restaurants are a real bugbear of mine!), and proper gravy! Altogether a good experience. Will definitely return.

Lovely food great all the staff are very polite and very helpful On Saturdays they have a DJ playing lovely tracks the DJ doesn't speak he just puts good music on... I went together with my 4 friends it was such a a great day out xx At the night time they also had a live singer which was a great experience.. Did I say we all had our dogs biscuits and water are available..

After meeting our walking friends at the Pied Bull for coffees we enjoyed a leisurely (age appropriate!) walk nearby before returning for our pre-booked meal. Amazing hospitality from Lea and great meals enjoyed by all. We were looking forward to ordering desserts but we were all too stuffed after the main meal. No criticism, it just gives me an opportunity to go back and try again! Well done team, great service and quality as usual 10/10

We moved into the area in August and the people we bought the house off rated this place - we had heard mixed reviews whilst drinking locally but thought since on the Facebook page was advertised it was their anniversary’s day and myself partner and Children fancied a roast thought we go along Firstly when I went to book a table on the website there was plenty of availability so we decided to drive down and ask on the bar The lady on the bar - when we asked for table was quite rude - stated there was a private party from 6.30 in the back room ?? And tables were limited - assumed from reading the Facebook page it was open to all customers Then we have a young girl tell us we could have a table - and gave us menus when asking questions about the menu she was unsure of the answers and said she needed to go and ask - my partner asked what the bread sauce was - which was on the chicken roast option - she came back said it was creamy sauce made with flour and milk - my partner was up for trying it When the food arrived - he asked where the white sauce was and her reply was - we have run out !! Think be nice to let us know that so he could decide if he stil wanted it The roast potatoes were rock hard And majority we could not eat could not even slice them with knife and fork and lacked any potato inside The cauliflower cheese we ordered extra was so dried up to the serving dish - cauliflower cheese should have a sauce over it !! Our family meal came to 89 pounds and felt it was lacking in areas for that price The pub had a feel that it welcomed regulars and that feel came from the bar staff and that is sad when we are new to the area and has good potential We have visited Thursday for quiz night and Friday evening few weeks ago and the bar staff was very different and very friendly on those occasions which made us return What a shame

There was 15 of us for a meal (pre booked the meals) everything came out together on time. I was a bit concerned there wasn't much options for food but rhe food was *amazing* and just the right portion sizes too as nothing was left and there was room for dessert for those that wanted it. The bar staff were great, very cheerful and quick to serve us. Had a great laugh with them. There was a singer on which was quite loud for those in the backroom eating. I defo recommend the trout and prawns.

I keep giving this place another chance and just keep getting disappointed. There are a couple of things that are just not acceptable about this place: 1- Some of the staff clearly don’t want to be there and when I took a coke back because it was flat I was asked if I was sure it was flat! Erm… yes, I am sure. I was poured a further flat one and told there was nothing wrong with the gas! The staff don’t care and the service is very poor. 2- The food is always disappointing. 3- The drinks are always disappointing! I asked for a cocktail once…from the cocktail menu…and they said they didn’t know how to make cocktails and the person that does is busy doing something else. This is supposed to be a pub! 4- The place is dirty- the ladies bathroom has wallpaper ripped off the walls and looked like it needed a good clean. They really need to up their game at the Pied Bull. So many people I speak to have said they won’t bother going again. It’s a shame when the rest of the high street is trying so hard to see a pub care so little.

This place has so much potential, but is really falling short in a number of ways. I’m surprised it’s getting so many good reviews and can only assume it’s because people want to be loyal and support their local. Firstly, they encourage people to drop in and work from the Pied Bull but they don’t provide any WiFi whatsoever. You have to rely on the public cloud which is temperamental at best, and this is on a high street with zero phone signal. There are loads of professionals working remotely in the area, WiFi is a basic expectation and they are missing out on potential business by not having their own WiFi. We’ve been in several times and had poor drinks service. Order a cocktail - the girl who does cocktails isn’t working today, sorry. Order a Coke, it’s flat. Ask for a replacement, they just pour another exactly the same and tell you it’s fine. The food is just OK, it depends what you order. You can get much better gastro food for the same price elsewhere, and served by staff that aren’t as disdainful. The place is newly refurbished but certain areas are a mess, namely the toilets - wallpaper peeling off, grubby decor, doesn’t feel clean. A young manager there today was frankly smarmy and insincere. I’m sure it’s a hard job but a bit more attention to detail and genuine customer focus would go a long way. We had a reservation for large family meal in a months time but based on our recent experiences have decided to cancel. This has the potential to be a very successful elevated gastro destination but it’s sliding back into basic fayre and mediocre service at best.

Nipped in to meet up with family and decided to stay for lunch. What an absolute gem! We opted for the lunch menu and were not disappointed. £10 for a meal with a drink. We'd never been before but will happily visit again ☺️

Wowowow!!! I havent been in since the Pied Bull was taken over by new owners and I have to say this place has definitely changed for the better… I have to mention too the service we received was amazing. Ben, I think the manager, saw to us on a what seemed to be chocka Sunday for them and at first we were told there might not be space for us as they were fully booked but he managed to find us a table and thankfully squeezed us in for an absolutely delicious impromptu Sunday lunch walking the dog - PS the Pied Bull isn’t just your average dog friendly pub, Bruno not only got his own “doggy dinner” for free with our order which he wolfed down 🤣🤩 Ben also made sure his water was topped up as it was a hot day which was really thoughtful. Our actual meal itself was amazing we weren’t sure which roast to go for but Ben was super helpful and helped us choose with his own recommendations, I had the roast chicken dinner and my partner had the roast beef rump dinner and the cauliflower cheese side and WOW it was so good, prices weren’t too expensive and the portions are quite generous too. We will definitely have to come back, I’d suggest booking ahead especially if it’s a nice sunny day we would’ve loved to have sat out on the patio but couldn’t with the dog so we’ll 100% be back for some drinks out on the patio in the sunshine 🤩🤩🤩

Second visit to Pied Bull, each time has been excellent, service, the fresh menu, and really helpfull staff. This has to be the bes gastro pub I have ever been to. Highly recommended.

Came here for a date with my husband & it was amazing service, food & atmosphere, Michael went above & beyond to make the evening perfect, we will be back again & reccomend to friends & family, thanks again.

If you want to be looked after very well when you go out for a meal or just for a drink then the Pied Bull is the place to go. The staff are all very friendly and make sure you enjoy your time with them. The food is great too.

The staff here are amazing- so friendly and attentive. The manager, Ben, made sure we were happy with our seats and made sure everything was okay with our food. The food itself was so tasty - we will definitely becoming back with some more friends and family. A cheeky coffee with dessert was definitely a highlight. I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone - especially anyone going for a walk through Newton with their dogs!!

I love this cosy yet busy pub. The service has always been lovely, helpful, and polite. I brought some family from Yorkshire for a family get-together, and they loved it! The menu is fantastic and caters to vegetarians, too. The manager Ben was very attentive and made our experience even more enjoyable, especially as we could bring our dogs in too to make it feel like a family occasion. Visited the pied bull for Sunday lunch. First Sunday here in ages. What can I say apart from excellent. Staff friendly, showed to our table, drinks order taken. Surroundings lovely. Given menus and a few minutes later order taken. Food was delicious. It was all hot and fresh. We will definitely be returning.

Only ever been for drinks before, but today we met friends for lunch. Food was excellent. Shepard’s pie was delicious. Everyone else said their food was also delicious and it looked it. Staff attentive but not in your face.

Nice bar, attentive staff, with a good selection of beers on tap. Overall, it's a nice bar. However, the speaker system is something to be desired! Tinny and awful sound! Something that could be a quick fix?

I visited the Pied Bull with my friend for lunch. We needed gluten-free option and the choices were knowledgeably given by the helpful waitress and gluten-free bread was available for a sandwich which was great. Comfortable seating outside on a sunny day feels very Mediterranean! The staff were attentive and friendly. Will definitely visit again!

Please be aware of parking charges when you go to this pub car park !!! :-( I have received a £60 PARKING CHARGE!!! Last week I parked on the car park waiting for my friend to arrive to go into the pub for lunch, as a female I do not like walking in a pub on my own. I sat waiting for 36 mins for my friend, who then called to say she had been in an accident and could not make lunch. The car park was not full as there were only about 4 cars on it. As I had never been to this pub before I was not aware that AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE ON THE CAR PARK - you have to go into the pub to register your car onto a computer system. Obviously I did not know about this process as never been here before, so did not go into the pub as I got a call to leave as my friend had had a accident. Now I have received a £60 PARKING CHARGE. I did go to this pub for lunch yesterday with my friend as I had not received the fine before this and the food was acceptable, but not large portions. As you can imagine I am very upset and angry by this parking charge and because of this reason I will not go to this pub again. If I appeal the charge and lose, I shall have to pay £100 instead of the £60 - this is a joke!!

Called in for tea one evening. The pub wasn't busy so now problem getting a table where we wanted. The food was very good, I had the chicken and ham hock pie and thoroughly enjoyed it, very tasty with nice chunks of meat. My partner had the steak and Ale pie and that looked every bit as good with nice chunks of steak. Over all, a pleasant visit, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Will definitely go again.

Portion size was far too small. We went for dinner and I had to get more dinner when I got home as I was still hungry. Food was nice enough despite the small portion but price is what I would have expected to pay for two large teas. I dought ever going back now for this reason. We shouldn't be expecting high cost low quantities

Visited today the 2 staff that where on duty where lovely and very helpful and professional, our food was absolutely delicious and well presented and hot . My only criticism is that there was people vaping inside I don’t know if this is something you allow or if it was being done behind the staffs back.

Not the best we were rushed to order food. Ordered the chicken burger which was bland the slaw was red cabbage and had the smallest portion of fries. Ordered a cider went outside to have a vape came back in and my drink had been cleared away. After someone in our group told the young lad what happened his reply was "it wasn't me" and that was it no offer to replace it. We were then asked by another girl if we'd like to order more drinks.

Very overpriced, service was terrible, awful food and rude staff. If the prices inside weren't enough you then get stung to park in their carpark. I didn't see any signs, the whole place is a scam run by crooks. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!

Very expensive together with an aggresive parking strategy where you get fined even when you have been a customer at the pub...wont go again and definately would not recommend it !!

Extremely slow service, despite not being very busy mid afternoon. Staff kept forgetting to bring our drinks too, we had to remind them a few times. Allergen menu was very difficult to navigate using their online QR code, especially with no signal and poor WiFi it was impossible. Room for improvement: always have a printed copy of the allergens, please! When a waiter came over with their own phone to show me the allergen menu it was hard to decode as the food shown on the allergen menu was different, or not in order to what was shown on the printed menu. When I finally figured out what I was allowed to have, the manager came and took my order and knew I couldn't have wheat. When the meal finally came, my meal has a Yorkshire pudding on top of it! That has wheat.So cross contamination. And the manager knew that the Yorkshire pudding couldn't be put on the plate. So clearly lack of communication with the waiters and the kitchen staff. GF sticky toffee was served with ice-cream rather than custard which I asked for, and the Sticky toffee has been over microwaved so it was really hard and dry. Other than that, the rest of the food I was able to have was great. But service in need for improvement. Hopefully it was just a 'bad' day

I was with 3 others at the Pied Bull for a 'Sip & Paint' evening. It was in credibly well organised- easels, paints, brushes & subject Roses in a vase which we had to paint. We got a drink from the bar & were guided through the painting. Great fun. We then had a meal afterwards in the bar. Service adequate. Food fine. Good price. Reasonable collection. Staff a little inexperienced the night we were there but friendly enough. But a crowd of drinkers came in & were in the bar area but were incredibly noisy. You couldn't hear the waitress or friends other side of the table. But that wasn't the pub's fault. Overall,

Passing time at the pub waiting for St Peter's primary school to send their children home! The sun had no hat on that day and it was extremely hot and sunny. We sat outside having a drink and trying to read our phones under the table, waiting for St Peter's to discharge their kids!

My wife and I have been coming here for years. Always been a bit hit and miss but since the new owners have taken over, its the place to be. The owners are always wandering around making sure you have the best experience. You have to be a bit thick to not notice the parking signs outside and inside. They have to put parking rules in due to selfish people filling up the car park and going elsewhere. Two other places on the High St have had to do this. Great beer selection.

Mother's day dinner was very nice, together with the atmosphere. The fact you allow dogs is an even bigger bonus. Thank you x

I booked a meal/party here for my wife’s birthday. The food was lovely. The private room at the rear of the pub was perfect for a party. We had a few last minute changes and some guests were late. Nothing was a problem and Michael and his staff were very helpful and accommodating. All our guests thoroughly enjoyed. We would definately recommend. 👍

End of Sunday evening drinks before heading home. Quite a nice inviting pub from the outside. Inside a busy pub with lots of drinks options. Asked for an NZ SV for GF alongside other drinks. Knew from taste it wasn’t what was ordered. However when I went to the bar the barman said it definitely was. I said it definitely wasn’t and he brought the bottle across to show me. And it definitely wasn’t!!! Anyway it was met with a shrug and a “we don’t have any left” and that was it. Not a great way to deal with things.

BEWARE! £100 PARKING FINE 16 of us attended The Pied Bull on 24th Feb 2024 following my Granddaughters birthday party. We had 3 rounds of drinks totalling over £150 plus we had bar food. Apparently you need to record your car registration but I wasn't aware as I wasn't told so 3 weeks later we receive a £100 parking fine even though we were patrons and probably spending more per head than most others there that day. Beware or better still steer clear!

Second time going here for dinner and again everything was perfect. I am vegan and also have an almond allergy and gluten intolerant, I had 3 courses which is great considering it’s a small menu, the young girl who waited on us actually remembered this from our previous visit that was 3 months ago ,she was helpful and attentive 5 stars for service. The food was delicious and will definitely go back again.

Attended for drinks with mature friends after a lovely Thai meal. The singers were good, but unfortunately the miserable bar staff who overcharged for drinks and got orders wrong, means that myself and my friends would not return .

Really poor experience. Went for lunch with my mum for a belated birthday meal but just appalling really. Waited 50 minutes for our mains. 1 fishfinger sandwich which wasn't warm and 1 sausage & mash which was an ice cream scoop of mash potato and 2 sausage. Completely unwhelmed. Order desserts ( 2 x salted caramel poffiteroes) but gave up after another 45 minute wait. Atmosphere wasn't great, the group of 4 ladies who were chasing food orders were verbally frustrated, while the 2 gentleman at the next table walked out after chasing their order and it's never appeared. Tbf, they ordered first before us and waited an hour. Not sure what to make of all this, but not sure why they offer a lunch service when they couldn't serve 5 tables.

Visited many years ago now much improved in appearance.,Very good service from waitress but food was slow coming - on a Monday! Starter for me only: French onion soup - excellent. Main for me Aberdeen Angus steak with one mushroom and chips - very good. My wife had Vietnamese curry - which she enjoyed but was very pubby. We finished with vanilla ice cream and my wife had crumble - okay. Happy to return.

Had a lovely afternoon here at the pied bull for Mother’s Day. The atmosphere was great, the service wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious. Definitely highly recommend their Sunday roast - everything was just perfect. The little gift bag with daffodils in was a lovely Mother’s Day touch, will definitely be returning!

If you are hungry and you want a Dinner that satisfies you, you won’t get it here. Below average portions, but the quality is good. I would recommend that the Hosts stipulate their Dinner portions of Small medium or large being determined by the price. £18/25 per person isn’t cheap when you take a family, so remember you can get a dinner at half that price at most food chain outlets in the Pubs high street.

Really disappointed unfortunately. Ordered started which were really really good to be fair. After an hour of waiting for our mains to come we had to ask for an update and they’d somehow forgot about them. Our steaks were then rushed and came almost completely raw. The first time in my life is sent food back. To be fair when re cooked it was perfect but after 90 mins of waiting we’d decided we won’t be coming back. We were offered our starters for free which we accepted but the only thing we should have paid for were our drinks. The place was really busy so it must be better than our experience but I’ve no intention of finding out.
