Carr Mill in St. Helens

Visited Carr Mill in 17/10 with family and Leo the Pug. Food and drinks were served by Sophie and others quickly upon ordering. Food was hot and tasty, ordered 3 courses each. Only gripe is that when visiting the toilet there is never any hot water running when washing hands, thankfully the missus always carries wipes on her.

Absolutely rank! Roastiest are frozen aunt bessies, turkey is borderline quorn, veg as soggy as wet tissue and the gravy is like tar mac.. I won’t even get into the state of the Yorkshire puddings. Topped off by arl coffin dodgers moaning about kids being in a family friendly pub. St Helens for you.

Eleanor was our server, she is very pleasant, attentive and dealt with our requirements. Very professional and pleasant in her manner and demeanor. Breakfast was excellent, asked for it to be cooked well done and it was. Perfect. Will be definitely be back.

came for food as online says kitchen closes at 9pm, to be told kitchen is closed at 8pm spent about £20 on taxis to get to this place for not to be able to get what we came for. spent a lot of money in here in the past, very upset and will not be coming again. if it closes at 8pm update online the times you are open til.

What pub don't serve curry overall 2.5 stars don't recommend

We went for a meal with friends. The steak was lovely but full of gristle. We go here a lot for a meal, will not be put off by gristle. We will just stick to the other lovely stuff on the menu.

Food was delicious and everything was cooked to perfection. Attentive and welcoming staff. Will be back again.

Been here a few times over the years, this visit was a spur of the moment as we've always had excellent experience here. Unfortunately, this time wasn't as brilliant. Hoping next time we visit it will be back to the excellent service & hot food we have come round love.

We go to the Carr Mill on a regular basis and we're always made very welcome by the staff. They always have time for a quick chat and the food is prompt and superb.

Always come here to catch up with family and friends, it’s a great pub with good staff and food, the beer garden lovely, would definitely recommend to anyone

September 4th evening even though the pub was pretty quiet the bar staff were friendly and always on the go

Food was under par for me. Chicken burger was over over cooked and felt burnt slightly on the crispy crumb. Had better food for the money.

First visit here since moved. Great choice of menu

Went for tea. Ordered a sharer for starter. No garlic ciabatta but wasn’t told when we was ordering. Instead we got 7 chips. Nobody came to collect our empty plates but instead came over and took our sauces to give to another table. After 40 minutes I went and asked someone how long our food would be and she came over and said not too long now. The kitchen only cook when we bring the plates back. The food then came and was okay. My wings had no rub on them as they should. And I had no salad on my plate. There was no check backs throughout our meal. On the way out we said goodbye to a staff member who had long redish hair and she snarled us as she walked past. The two girls on the bar were very nice. Overall not happy.

Food very poor lacked flavour. Real let down.

Stayed up here for a few days and found this pub by chance so ate here for the following few days Food was excellent,service was good and very fairly priced.Pretty unique having a bowling green as a back garden view

Great place for food and great atmosphere

Went in Saturday for a meal spent 10 mins in there that was enough found a table was really sticky should of been cleaned as it was reserved later on in the day even ever menu we touched was sticky couldn't handle this so left what a let down actually felt dirty coming out of the place

Have been a couple of times for food and just for just but the staff here are just not very friendly can take ages to be served at the bar and when you are it's not friendly service at all

Food was sub par and served on metal trays for main meal and camping tins for starters! Staff didn't ask if ready for main after starter just brought it out. Wouldn't eat there again .

Wow. How rubbish has this place gone? £28 not well spent. Ordered a steak flatbread, got a beef wrap with a wad of lettuce and the wrong sauce. Sent it back, came back wrong again. Tried send it back again, lad shrugged his shoulders.... oh an a dog was barking whilst I ate.... 🤣

May 2024: Much better now, prices are very good for the quality of food, service is excellent and they have an outdoor area which is also nice. 5 years ago: For £40 each person, it took over 2 hours to finally get our meal. When the meal came, it wasn't fantastic.

We came from scunthorpe to meet family We have been several times before and we love it there its not too rowdy so we are able to talk , food was excellent all 7 of us enjoyed it all. Steak pie and chips, gammon egg and chips, mixed grill and steak and chips. I had a lasagne all beautifuly cooked.

Food was good but chicken served on a stainless steel platter with a greaseproof paper on platter but the pink colour on promotional greaseproof paper comes off on food

Called in for tea with two friends. Surprisingly, all three of us had the same meal, the steak and ale pie. All enjoyed and with the offer represented good value for money.

The chicken mix was amazing and a big meal, staff extremely nice and friendly would definitely be coming back especially with friends and more family.

Got chicken burger came on a tray with a few chips spread about could have done with more chips and a bit of salad to make it look more appetising

Called in Monday just after 12, we both had gammon skillet which was good for the price. Service was prompt and efficient. Will return however next time I’ll ask for no ice in the large cokes (If you take the ice out you’d probably be left with a 1/4 of a glass of coke at best!)

Went tonite for my mum n dad's golden wedding anniversary what a shambles it was waiting on staffs attitude was disgraceful then was made to stand up from our table so they could move the table round to make room for the crazy bingo that was on full of kids who was constantly vaping in front of staff who was made aware but nothing was said overall was made to feel very uncomfortable from the moment we went in, always go here for meals but after tonite I won't be returning

been tonight but very disappointed in our food we had to send full order back once then the fries again food should be hot not just warm. its amazing what a microwave can do to make things hot how do i know this the dish the fries was in was as hot as the food in the end. we had southern fried chicken burger not sure where the spice was, our 2 last visits we enjoyed the food but not tonight only good thing was the burgers where on a buy 1 get 1 free .

Food was disgusting table was dirty and sticky wouldn't recommend waste of money i got chicken sunday dinner and it came it just looked and smelt horrible

10 people for Christmas day dinner, what a shambles, people getting main meals before starters, meals didn't look as good as they should, looked like just threw on the plate as quick as possible. Steaks was disgusting, no one could eat it. Veg under cooked. People getting mince pies before dessert. Not a good experience.

Love coming to this pub. Staff are friendly and efficient. Recommend XL breakfast. Yummy.

I went into the pub to have a few drinks and watch the World Darts Final. The pub was very busy and my initial concerns were about the service we would receive, this was due to a large Birthday party and the weekly quiz. It didn't take long for me to realise that I had nothing to worry about. The bar staff, namely, Elanor and Charlie, were so efficient, friendly and gave everybody such a warm welcome even though they must have been working under a lot of pressure. Excellent customer service, these young ladies should be commended for their efforts tonight.

Very disappointing service and completely manic for a Christmas day meal would not go again on Christmas day too many people booked in and very disorganised

We came here Christmas Eve for a family gathering and we had a great time and were well looked after by the girl in the Santa headband. All the staff was lovely and the food was hot and delicious! Thanks for everything and hopefully all the staff gets a good rest after the holidays!

Good selection of beers. Food and service good. If you are an older person don't go when crazy bingo is on. Apart from that it's fine.

My husband and I visited last night, we both had the 8oz rump. It was cooked to perfection, the whole meal was realy good, friendly staff, prompt service.

Visited for the first for a birthday party meal. There were 6 people in the party and we were served food quickly which was very hot and cooked exactly as ordered. Staff were polite and friendly. Would recommend and will be visiting again.

We went for lunch and decided on the golden years menu, such good value, we had 2 courses for £4 99 each, fish, chips and mushy peas, then vanilla ice cream. It was presented and cooked very well. Not a very extensive golden years menu but good. Portion size was great and very filling, service was brilliant, not a long wait and the staff were very friendly, polite and efficient.

Lovely place with lovely staff, however the food is shocking, it was cheap and nasty, tasted like they got most of their ingredients from Iceland. I had a chicken burger, the bun was not fresh, chicken burger tasted horrible, waffle fries just tasted of grease. Coleslaw tasted like it was 20p savers coleslaw. The food is reasonably priced for frozen rubbish. Everything needed seasoning especially the mac and cheese which just tasted like plain cheese. I heard good things about this place and the menu looks pretty good online but I'm just disappointed and hungry

Came here for family meal for my husband’s 50th birthday service behind the bar very slow only one girl serving as other staff were lounging around on the seats in the corner !! ordered our food and ordered extra chips the lady asked if I wanted 2 portions of chips I said no just 1 when they brought our food out they never brought the extra portion of chips so I said there should be chips the girl came back over to the table and said no chips have been ordered I tried to explain I definitely ordered them as the lady taking the order had asked if I wanted 2 portions and I had said no just 1 portion but the girl kept saying no chips had been ordered when I know what I ordered so I had to get up in the middle of my meal to go and order a portion of chips I didn’t appreciate how the girl spoke to me I found her very rude my husband commented how quiet the pub was for a Sunday afternoon but I’m not surprised with the customer service being like that I have always loved having meals here but won’t be coming back in a hurry!!!

We have just had our family members funeral at the carr mill and we had second to none five star service , we cannot fault the staff they are amazing so attentive and courteous , the buffet was fabulous everyone commented how fresh the food was and more than enough for everyone thankyou to your kitchen team kaz Anna and heather for yet again another amazing job . We wouldn’t go anywhere else Pete and his team always do such an amazing job and our family think very highly of this public house .
