It might be that early January is a bad time to go as all the regular staff are off after an exhausting December, but for the first time ever here we were thoroughly disappointed with the pheasant. We were family of four and only wanted sandwiches and burgers but despite the fact that it was no where near full we had to wait a full hour for some very lack lustre, over cooked food. The wait for drinks alone was 15 minutes, though while watching the staff take 5 minutes to make one coffee one could see why. I suspect we won’t go again in January !!!

Really enjoyed our stay here and the food was really nice. The owner Nick and all the staff were 1st class throughout and the suite we stayed in was perfect to spend our Christmas together.

First visit for a family catch-up Sunday meal prior to New Year. Starters basic, then it started to go downhill. Senior member of staff giving another member of staff a rollicking in front of us. Embarrassing. Lamb main course, the meat so full of fat and gristle half of the meat inedible went back at the end. All the food barely warm, couple of us sent mushy peas/mash back for rewarming. Signature meat pie a disaster, do you do 2 pies? Or a secret pie for regulars? There was only 4 pieces of steak, 6 tiny onions and the rest just watery gravy! If I was a chef I wouldn’t want to put my signature to it! Gents toilet pretty gruesome, radiator partly stripped of paint due to urine splashes. Deserts as a final course basic, and unimpressive. Disappointing and it hurts when it’s not worth hard earned money. Won’t visit again.

Fabulous dog friendly accommodation and pub. Great food reasonably priced. Staff super friendly and professional. Rooms modern- spotlessly clean. Beautiful part of the UK. Ideal for a weekend family reunion. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Went in for breakfast and all the low tables were reserved. Asked young lad behind the bar if we could sit in the other section and he said "I don't think so"..Went to leave and was told by another member of staff that the tables weren't reserved until 1pm. Breakfast took a long to to arrive and I had finished my coffee. I don't mind waiting if food is fresh but the bacon on my husband's breakfast has certainly been sitting a while. I had mushrooms on toast although it was more toast than mushroom and I don't know how they managed it but the mushrooms were completely tasteless. I had completely finished my meal by the time my husband's half cooked cold toast arrived. It's a beautiful place but the food is very underwhelming.

Really disappointing. Long wait for food (even though it wasn’t busy), untidy, dirty doors, walls and toilets. Food was poor and not overly warm. Only positive was the waitresses. Won’t bother going back.

Just stayed overnight with friends for a special birthday where we had dinner and breakfast. It was absolutely fabulous as they made us that welcome and looked after so well it felt like we had stayed with friends. Everything from start to finish was perfect so thank you so much Nicholas to you and all your team for making this special occasion so so lovely and we will definitely be returning first chance. If anyone has the opportunity to stay you would be crazy not to it was fabulous.

Had a business meeting in Holmfirth yesterday decided to stay and have lunch in the village as it was 1-15pm, we saw The Pickled Pheasant Pub. On entering with my husband a waitress came to us asked what we wanted I requested a table for 2 for lunch please she then asked me had we booked , I replied no only to be told “We Don’t Take Walk Ins”. I did not quite understand so I asked her to repeat please and she did in a loud voice ! We Don’t Take Walk Ins ! Given that we saw many tables available we were both shocked. Perhaps this establishment should advertise this on their Website so the general public are aware this establishment do not want your walk in business. We do understand at certain times of the year it’s advisable to book ahead but on this occasion in November & many vacant tables one wonders how long they will survive especially in today’s climate.

We had an overnight stay here, and a meal. Our dog was with us. One of the best places we’ve ever been. Room was very clean and spacious , with a view of the church. ( Grouse) Bed very comfortable. Fabulous meal in the evening. I don’t eat meat, and often the veggie choices are an afterthought, but def not here. The moussaka was beautiful. My husband had the schnitzel, best one he’s had outside of Germany. Service was friendly and the place had a good vibe. Breakfast was very good too. Will definitely return.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been to the pickled pheasant/munch. However I’ve simply had enough of how rude, arrogant and unpleasant the manager is here. We popped in for a quick ice cream, the man who served us was great, super friendly and made us feel welcome, whilst this was happening the manager was staring us out (reminder this is a common occurrence). As we were leaving we asked if he had a problem with us, he instantly shut us down and just walked off. The owners really need to have a think if they want this guy representing this place, as I’ve seen multiple bad reviews about him. Won’t be returning until he’s gone.

Sorry, I thought highway robbery had been and gone. We stopped here yesterday for 2 coffees and 2 bacon butties and ok I needed a pee. Bear in mind a bill of £20, the staff behind the counter ignored me for several minutes then seemed to spring into life, I ordered our coffees which came reasonably quickly 😀 so far so good, we then waited 30 minutes for 2 bacon baps, when they finally arrived after us drawing attention to our delay, the baps consisted of 2 soft buns , no butter and a stingey small pieces of bacon which my wife actually placed on one half of the bun to make something like. Sorry but I won't be back.

Stayed here on our way to Scotland from the East Midlands. Superb accommodation with nothing left out, the little finishing touches puts it a cut above the rest. The staff are so welcoming and nothing is too much. Big shout out to the Front of House staff: Lex, Ruby, Dom, Gracie, Lily, Nicholas and Ben! Chefs, Nathan & Tom - thank you for sharing your recipe for the topping of the pie, I will be making it as soon as I get home.! Thank you so much for a memorable stay, we will definitely be back.!

We booked a 3 night stay and on arrival first impressinons were good but that changed. Good points... spotlessly clean, friendly staff. Bad points......we paid £580 for BB for three nights to find out the the rooms did not receive daily housekeeping therefore beds were unmade, clean towels, extra water/ tea / coffee had to be asked for. There was no cereal, fruits or toast provided with breakfast, we even had to ask for some juice. We will not be staying there again.

Our visit could have been a lovely experience however it was tainted by the attitude of one member of staff. We called in advance to book a table and spoke to a lovely gentleman who was equally as lovely when we arrived. The young female members of staff were also very helpful and pleasant. The problem arose when 45 minutes after being served our starter, we hadn’t received our main course so I decided to enquire about the whereabouts of our meals. The barman/waiter was really quite rude. Saying that there was a large party in is not really a good explanation for waiting so long. If they were unable to serve the number of people in the allocated time do not take bookings. Our food arrived within minutes which was in fact Sunday lunch which takes very little preparation. I think they simply forgot about us. We are on holiday and when we arrived we thought that we would spend a lot of time here. Sadly this will not be the case. Sort out your time management and train all your staff to the same standard and this place could be great. Very disappointing because the food was good. The service and attitude of one individual has really put us off this pub and we will not return.

As soon as I arrived for my meal with my family , I knew by the look of the tables that we would be in for a treat , however I was put off straight away by the way the manager spoke to his staff, it was unprofessional and rude, upon hearing this , we decided to leave promptly , someone in charge or a team should not act/treat people in this manner

Lovely place, quaint and modern combined. Good atmosphere and been many times over the last few years. Always good service and lovely food. Attended a family funeral last year also and everyone had a 3 course meal which was delivered with precision and I was really impressed. Friendly lovely staff and although particularly busy was well run. Highly recommend.

I just been for lunch at the pickled pheasant What a lovely place beautiful setting The food was nice.my only complaint was i could hear what i presume was the manager. Shouting and talking to one of his staff. I wouldn't talk to my dog like that. then a woman came through looking really upset and left the premises in tears by the look of it? Im not in hospitality but im sure no one should have to be talked to like that. That poor and may i add beautiful looking woman. Who ever it was talking down to her should not be in charge Ruined my lunching experience. I will not be back

Went for Sunday Lunch. Dinner was average, starters were pre plated and really cold. Desserts were uninspiring. Service was good with exception of being rushed/pressured to order. Definitely better places to visit in the area. No rush to go back which is disappointing as wanted to try for ages.

We have returned from a one night stay at the Pickled Pheasant and stayed in the Mallard room. The room was beautiful and genuinely perfect. This was the same for the Pickled Pheasant itself when we went for breakfast before checking out. The breakfast was delicious and one of the best I’ve had for a long time. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and made us feel welcome. We were staying due to a concert at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth which meant we weren’t really able to take full advantage of the area (e.g. walking along local routes) and room facilities (e.g. in-room bathtub). We have already booked to return in the summer to be able to take full advantage of both of these. I would highly recommend!

Always a pleasure visiting here. Great range of soups and reasonably priced coffee £2 or pot of tea £1.60 (Dec '18). The staff are friendly and there's a outdoor seating area which in summer is a real sun trap.

What a lovely place. Very welcoming. The food was amazing. Would highly recommend you try this place. The roast of the day was really good. The 1, 2 or 3 course lunch menu is really good value. With the generous portions we only managed a main course.
