Chose to go here with friends. Looked online at the menu - don’t bother it’s months out of date. 4 of us had to choose a second meal as all our original choices were out of stock. Not a good choice of deserts, oh yes that’s right not all available. Perhaps we chose the wrong night to go, we won’t be back in a hurry.

Just got back after a lunch time meal as it was Elaines Birthday . Very nice old pub The decor matches the age of the property and there is a log fire roaring away. The service provided by the young man who is part of the family that runs this fine establishment was brilliant he is polite very well mannered and all our Order came fresh and hot . We had Leek and potato soup for starter . I had Beef and ale pie mash and veg with a very tasty gravy Elaine had Fish and chips with mushy peas followed by Apple and raspberry crumble and custard all items where spot on . I would highly recommend a visit .

Visited on a quiet Sunday for lunch. We were seated right by the fire which was very welcomed with the weather being particularly cold. We were served by Georgia who was very attentive throughout. The pork sunday lunch was fantastic, gravy and the creamy leeks made it. Great price for the portions.

Avoid this place we visited Christmas day our table wasn't ready had to wait , sat down no arrival drink waited 45 minutes for someone to come over to take our drinks order went the bar to be told someone would be over eventually they did , one and a half hours later not had starter we had four young children with us and they were starving not much food seemed to be coming out and the table by us had only a starter in two hours , couldn't get any response as to what was happening spoke to management who were not bothered so we had to walk out as children were so hungry after two hours waiting, our Christmas day was ruined so please do not book this place for Christmas day. Just to add I did not see any management and we were not informed what was going on we were just left , the only dealings with management was when a member of my family went to the bar and asked to see the manager , disgusting our Christmas was ruined.

Service from Georgia was really good, she was friendly and engaged with banter from the table when advised the long awaited for steak pie was off the menu. Dispite being quite the food took a long time to arrive. Overall the food was really lovely. (5 people 3 courses) One of our party (3 had the same dish) had some pork belly that was 95% fat which ended up not being eaten. One of our party also had a cold dessert which should have been warm, everyone else with the same dish had a piping hot dessert. I have been here before, the food was absolutely wonderful. I'm really disappointed on this occasion especially as we had booked expecting the supper club to be on that evening to be advised upon arrival it wasn't (only Wednesday) to then find the marketing flyer on the table to state it was due to be on between Monday-Thursday in January. For me it took the shine of treating my mum to a birthday meal whilst we honered the reservation there was five of us which caused additional expenses.

We had high hopes for our Christmas Day meal at Pickering Arms, having pre-booked, pre-ordered, and pre-paid for our party, which included four young children. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing short of a disaster. Upon arrival, our table wasn’t ready despite our reservation. We were seated after a 15-minute wait, which was manageable, but things quickly went downhill from there. We were supposed to receive champagne on arrival, but this never happened. Instead, we waited over 45 minutes just to get our first drinks, despite multiple requests. The real issue was the food service. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, we still hadn’t received our starters. The lack of communication from the staff was frustrating, and when we finally managed to speak to someone, we were given excuses about staff shortages. The manager, who was unprofessional, blamed overbooking by Punch Taverns, claiming they had accepted 30 more reservations than they could handle. With four hungry children and no food in sight, we had no choice but to leave and find an alternative. We ended up ordering from a local Indian restaurant, which saved our Christmas dinner. Other families around us were equally frustrated, with many also leaving and demanding refunds. To make matters worse, the next group of diners arrived while we were still waiting for our starters. This experience has left us with no desire to ever visit a Punch Tavern establishment again. It was a Christmas Day we won’t forget, but for all the wrong reasons.

I had a truly awful experience at this restaurant on Christmas Day. We had booked, paid, and preordered our meal in advance, but the service was nothing short of horrendous. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived, and we didn’t even receive our drinks. After waiting for over two hours, we still hadn’t been served our starter, with no explanation or updates from the staff. There was zero communication about what was happening, and when I tried to get answers, the manager was completely uninterested and offered no apologies. We had small children with us who were simply disregarded. It’s clear that, despite the preparations and the special occasion, there’s no guarantee you’ll actually get your food. The lack of service and care from the management made the entire experience frustrating and disappointing. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Save yourself the stress—there are plenty of other restaurants that actually care about their customers. To make it worse, the place or the brewery made no attempt to contact us to apologise despite the booking being made for months prior to the day. Will never revisit. A special shout-out to a young male member of the staff who was running around trying to help the customers. He deserved to be manager as he actually cared and he actually did something!

We booked Chirstmas dinner for 12 people at 15:00 on Chirstmas Day. We arrived on time to be told that our table wasn't ready but we'd be given a bottle of Prosecco to apologise. This didn't happen. We sat outside to be told at 15:15 that our half of our table was ready. At this time 3 waitresses left which was strange. We declined as we didn't want to sit next to random people. At around 15:30 we were sat down. We had to ask 5 times to get the "champagne on arrival". We had to ask 3 times to get a drinks order. At around 16:20 the chef's treats arrived. At this point there was only one person serving/taking orders. She said that the chef was working hard and the food won't be long. It got to nearly 17:00 and still no starters were brought out. We asked to speak to a manager. A further wait and a man turned up who hadn't been seen at all since we got there. He stunk of weed and didn't want to know. The only server (might've been the landlady) said that they'd had 3 people left and that the brewery had overbooked by 30 people. We requested a refund and left. Safe to say our Christmas Day was ruined. Still no apology from the Pickering Arms so raised it with the brewery. They weren’t interested and said we’d got a refund so that was fine.

Against my better judgement I thought I'd call in for a quick pint. Met with two pumps blanked off. I asked what bitters they had on....Timothy Taylor only. Not good enough for a quintessential rural village pub, simply not good enough. Not interested in the food....just want a decent pint. It's a crying shame that this once brilliant boozer has gone down the pan. Go next door like I did to see how a proper pub is run.

Tables walking out as they had been waiting as long as us. 3hrs later we got our main and then dessert but to be told there was no Stilton left for the fruit cake, most had walked out so where did it all go? Owner crying, staff had nothing to say but excuses, refunded our meal but ruined our family Christmas. Music kept going off and so did the lights Will not be returning to our family local.

I have just visited to have lunch with 2 friends to celebrate my birthday. We went a couple of months ago and the meal was amazing so we decided to have lunch there...never again!...we arrived a little before 12.30 and as we hadn't booked a table we were told we would probably have to wait 30 mins which was fine so we ordered a drink and sat down. Almost an hour later a young guy came to take our order of soup and sandwich. Some time after we were told the soup we ordered wasn't available and none of us liked the alternative so had to choose another sandwich. It finally arrived around 2.15pm and it wasn't nice!. We had the steak on sourdough bread and the bread was rock hard and the steak was very chewy. There was disruption when a table of lovely ladies demanded to see the manager because they had ordered the Christmas meal then were told they couldn't have it because it wasn't pre-booked however one lady told me she had been in personally in mid Oct to book it. This discussion was done right by our table so was very uncomfortable. We could understand the delay if the pub was busy but apart from us ,(3) there were 2 couples and the table of 8 ladies. Absolutely terrible and I'd like to say to the manager thanks for spoiling my birthday lunch!

Absolutely terrible place for Sunday lunch…if you are thinking of going don’t waste your money. Most of the menu was crossed out and unavailable. Roasts were still available but came with the most meagre portion of veg I’ve ever seen, such an embarrassment as I’d taken my mum there for a special birthday. Despite what it said on the menu I got 2 pathetic carrots and a tiny amount of soggy cabbage…no creamed leeks, no green beans. We waited so long for our food I had to ask where it was. What a letdown. We arrived excited, but it took around 15 minutes for anyone to even notice we were there. They finally took our order, then kept us waiting another 20 minutes just for drinks. Starters came out 20 minutes later, and by then, we’d realized patience was clearly going to be the theme of the day. As the wait for our main courses stretched on, I flagged down a staff member, letting her know we’d been sitting there for almost two hours. She went to “check,” but then vanished without an update. Fifteen minutes later, I had to track her down again. When the food finally arrived, it was missing the “creamy leeks” we’d been hyping up all day. When I asked where they were, a staff member insisted they were on my plate—which they definitely were not. Eventually, she came back with a weak apology, saying they’d actually run out. Thanks for the heads-up. The food was tasty enough, but the service was just abysmal. We booked for 3:30 p.m. and didn’t get to eat until 5:40 p.m. Not exactly the relaxed, enjoyable meal we’d hoped for. I won’t be coming back, and honestly, you’re better off taking your appetite elsewhere.

It's with a heavy heart that I write this as I've lived in Warrington all my life and was is our local pub. I visited here with my disabled sister, my 1 year old son and our dog for Sunday lunch during June this year. We'd booked a table for 12.30 and arrived at 12.15 to find the pub wasn't open, even though on Google it states the pub opens at 12.00. I ordered my sister the chicken schnitzel, my son chicken and chips from the children's menu and myself a roast dinner. When the food arrived I saw that my son's chicken was drenched in oil so I sent it back. As a parent with a weaning child who feeds himself with his hands, I felt uncomfortable with him eating so much oil. Hopefully any parent can understand this. His replacement took so long to arrive, I ended up cancelling it as my son was getting agitated, so I instead fed him the snacks from my bag. Unfortunately, I then found a hair in my roast so I sent that back. The replacement roast took so long to arrive, my sister had finished her meal so I decided to leave as my son was getting distressed. Upon paying the bill, I stated I was happy to pay for our drinks and my sister's meal but not for mine and my son's meal and I asked to speak to the manager. With this being a local pub, I wanted to politely explain our experience. However before I even had a chance to explain, the manager raised his voice and shouted over me in an abusive manner as I held my 1 year old in my arms, ordered me not to pay for anything, insisted there was nothing wrong with the food and that the hair in my food was mine because it was black. He then stomped off leaving me and his staff in shock. His staff profusely apologised repeatedly. I explained to them if they thought the hair was mine, why didn't they tell me right then when I sent the meal back. His staff kept saying sorry, that the manager was 'hot-headed' and I was left wondering if his behaviour was racially aggravated, as I am of Chinese descent and he commented on my hair colour. I also recall the hair found in my food was not black otherwise I wouldn't have sent it back. My sister left the pub pushing my baby out in the pram in distress and I was trying to hide my own distress as I left the pub. Upon leaving, I briefly acknowledged some locals and saw the manager walk towards me in an angry manner. I explained to him not to worry, that I was leaving. He clearly wanted me out of his pub. As I left, I tried one more time to reason with him. I said he was rude and I was upset with his behaviour and he shouted at me again, saying that I was rude. Looking back now, I felt gaslighted as I had never even raised my voice or been rude towards him. All I did was feedback on food which I thought was unsatisfactory. He maintained there was nothing wrong with his food and that I had disrupted his whole kitchen. I cannot understand how I could have done this with his pub being empty during lunchtime and I clearly didn't think a manager of a local pub would handle feedback in this manner. I would not have fed back had this not been my local pub. In a final bid to calm the situation, I told him I was willing to pay for the whole bill. He then proceeded to stomp off again in a petulant manner. With my sister being disabled, we eat out every Sunday in Warrington as a treat and this pub had always been one of our favourite places to frequent. It is dog friendly, in a lovely picturesque area of the village and the staff are lovely. However, our latest experience has been ruined by the poor management. I have never left a poor review on any pub/restaurant I've visited and I have visited a lot, especially in our local area. However, I contacted Punch Pubs who own this pub and never got a response. This was by far the worst experience we've ever had. Deeply disappointing.

Had a very poor experience today at the Pickering Arms. This was our first visit despite living in Warrington for 30yrs. I preface this with the understanding that its Sunday lunchtime, which we accepted would be busy/popular. We booked ahead for 4 adults and 2 kids, and on arrival would say the pub was around half full. There seemed to be only one young girl waiting the tables and we didn't see anyone else, so this review isn't aimed at her as mostly wouldn't have been her fault. We only had our food order taken after around 20 mins and had to prompt to get a drinks order. Then we had an hour and a half wait until the food arrived - and this was only after having to ask/chase up the food twice. When the food arrived (2 kids meals and 4 adult Sunday roasts) we found it to be mediocre at best. The beef was in thick chunks (not nice thin slices) and was almost raw/bloody in the middle. The Yorkshire puddings were soggy and the roast potatoes dry inside. My wife asked for no horseradish sauce but hers arrived with horseradish sauce on, which had seeped underneath all the other food, so flavoured it all. There was no apology or explanation given, and no prior warning when we first arrived (that they were busy or understaffed etc). By the time we left, the pub was full, but again no other staff were seen. I have had better roast dinners at 'cheap carvery' style pubs, and for the price we paid I found it to be very unsatisfactory. We will definitely not be returning and I wouldn't recommend to others.

We booked a table for 2 and sat outside ,it was a sunny day. We waited 50 mins for our food, I went into the pub to ask about the food and the waitress apologised and said she would go and see where it was, then I think it was the owner stated in a surly manner "its coming now".Greasy just warm chips, just warm peas, the fish was ok,but mine was very small. A very small white wine each , we didnt expect a huge one but a decent amount would have been nice. We ordered the meal and a drink for £10.each. We asked for 2 glasses of tap water and dicovered they charged us £2.45 per glass. We will not be returning.

We stumbled upon this place by accident while passing through Thelwall. We decided to stop for Sunday tea. My wife had a Sunday roast, which looked really good. She even said it was the best meal she had all weekend. I had the burger and fries, which were also very tasty. The staff were really helpful and friendly. If we ever pass by again, I'd definitely recommend this place over 'The Manor'.

We came in for lunch yesterday and once again the food was spot on. We both ordered a steak sandwich which was cooked exactly as we asked for medium rare. The sourdough bread was really nice, would have been good to have another slice for a lid for it however I wouldn’t rate it down becuase of this as it was that good! Staff and atmosphere of the pub is brilliant I would highly recommend.

Part of the punch bowl pub chain, which had a surprisingly good menu for a chain. Sunday lunch was very good. The onion soup was rich and filling, a meal in itself. The beef was cut thick and slow cooked, as was the pork. The star of the show was the veggie "Wellington" a filo

Very quiet in restaurant, yet took over an hour for our food to arrive . We also waited 10 mins for drinks to arrive. 5 people in total. When I queried the wait time I was gaslighted by the staff member. When I asked if the child's dish, at least could be brought out, I got the comment that they would get the chef to "start cooking it"! WHAT???? Terrible service all round. All 3 table occupants complaining about the wait time. NO APOLOGY! Won't ever go back

Had a good Sunday dinner so thought we would try the weekday lunch menu. Ordered ham egg and chips and was told there were no eggs. Such a basic ingredient to run out of. So ordered the steak sandwich. Friends ordered the pie and the fish and chips. Pie and fish arrived but there was a mix up so I had to wait for mine. Pie pastry was rock hard and was left. Other two mains were ok. Friend ordered a Lanlords beer and was told they’d run out. Service was very slow. Had to ask for the bill twice. We normally tip at least 10% but couldn’t justify that on this occasion.

We certainly will not be going back. The waitress was told about our experience.

Oh no what happened, I really want the Pick to do really well. It's had a several changes of management recently and probably changes in bar staff and the cook also. We had a family meal here on 7th June 2024. The starter took about 40 minutes to arrive and eventually arrived with an apology. The garlic mushroom starter was ok. The squid starter was awful, it was like elastic bands, unable to snap and stretchy which is all due to being over cooked. They forgot to bring out the toddlers meal with our starters and didn't get it until just before our main meal. Which meant our 4 year old was waiting over 1 hour which is a big no no for children. They did apologise. We asked for some water for our dog from the main server but she forgot it. Another lady / manager saw the empty bowl and offered to fill it for our dog but she forgot it. Eventually another customer saw what was happening and went to the toilet and filled it for us (thank you customer) as we couldn't easily get away having a dog a young child and a baby Then the main courses arrived fish and chips for both of us, all the chips were awful including those with the child's meal, stodgy like old reheated greasy chips. The fish was poor, only partly edible and both of us left half of it. Even the garden peas were some cooked and some raw tasting. We had a large glass of white wine which was served very warm at room temperature on a warm day, they hadn't attempted to chill it even a little. Wet had to get a full glass of ice in it which completely diluted it with water and ruined the wine. It's such a pity as it was great under the previous management and we all want our local pub to succeed. We had already been pre warned by some locals not to bother going but we always like to try places for ourselves. Maybe the new team need time to settle in and get things right, come on Pickering Arms please make this a great pub with great food. On a positive note, the staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. I would go only for a drink but would not eat here again unless others say the food has had a significant improvement. A huge positive is the pub is dog friendly. I hope things get better?

Staff were lovely, food was fine if delivered in random assortment, but the one thing that really let this down was the slowness of the food service. We'd both opted for beef dinner and the only veg that we shared was carrots. Otherwise each plate had very different options. A sign proudly proclaims "new management, new menu" but the state of one of ours suggests otherwise. We won't be returning to see if things improve.

Me and family called here after going to the Woodlands Alpaca farm on the recommendation of Suzie. We wanted lunch but the landlady informed us that they had an electrical fault and the kitchen was out of order. We stayed for a drink and I played darts with my 8 year old. The landlord and landlady appeared to have young children themselves and the landlord asked me if my little boy would like pizza and chips as he was doing their sons lunch as well. This was an amazing gesture and really appreciated, such lovely people!!!! The pub itself is lovely in a picturesque village and traditional inside with a massive seating area outside. We are about a 35 minute drive away but will return with my father in law when the kitchen is back up and running! Thanks guys!!!!

It's a lively country pub with great surroundings and outdoor area. The inside is a beautiful refurbished old building that is cosy but not cramped. We came for a family event and the staff were really attentive and handled our large troop really well. The only down side I would day was the portion size of the food. Other than that we had a great time. I would recommend The Pickering Arms to anyone looking for a great sun drenched beer garden or a cosy winter pub. 🙌🏻

The service was terrible, a table of 5 seated and waited 25 minutes for a drink order. Once our food order has been placed we waited 55 minutes to receive this. Had an absolutely fabulous meal tonight. There were six of us for my mum's birthday. From the start Rachael was so friendly and welcoming. Really couldn't do enough for us. We had some shared starters, main meals and deserts - they were all fantastic. There were even some birthday candles topping my mums apple crumble - lovely touch. The chef, Jay, is amazing. Everything was tasty, hot and the right amount. Wine choice is also very good. We ended with coffee (the Baileys coffee was really good) done by Jack. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos but that just gives us an excuse to go back. Which we will do, and I'd have no hesitation in recommending The Pickering Arms to anyone - it really was a great night out.

Very overpriced and under sized portions meant to be a cafe not a restaurant. 2.50 for a can of Fanta is ridiculous, had finished food when they brought missed item , chucked at us, no apology nothing, worst place in miles just about ripping off not providing quality or value
