I called in late afternoon, so it was quite empty, as you would expect at that time of day. I can't comment on the food , because I didn't eat. The manager was very welcoming, and they had a great selection of beer and lagers at the pumps.

New manager with the same attitude to those living nearby. Clearly doesn’t care about their neighbours. This really is a great pub but once again the local community are plagued with bridge street vibes way beyond midnight. Loud music. Even louder punters. I miss lockdown. At least those within a mile of this place could have the windows open and their kids could sleep at the weekend. I don’t want this pub to lose its atmosphere and character but it’s taking the mick out of those that live nearby now. Would it really hurt the takings to finish a little earlier. Maybe even just try closing when your licence says you have to. Or turn the music down a bit when it gets unreasonably late. It’d be a start. Something to consider…

After waiting for the lockdown to end, we walked round to the pub we live nearest to to have a beer in the beer garden in the sun. It was 4.30 pm on Saturday 29/5 and there were just 5 people in the pub ….a young female came from behind the bar to greet us ….I asked if we could go through to the beer garden and was asked to use the track and trace app to book in …..I explained that I didn’t have the app as my phone is an antique and not a ‘smartphone’……the female said I need you to download the app ……I asked if we could just record our details for contact tracing …..she said no ….. no download of app no beer …… trying hard to control my growing anger I told her we wouldn’t be bothering ……. We are both near enough 60 years old …..we want to comply with the law and having just returned from Devon and Berkshire the day before, where we had been able to manually record our contact details at various hostelries without a problem I anticipated that our local wouldn’t be an issue … ….how wrong can you be …..we walked a short distance and got our beers in the Red Lion without any problem …..in fact we finished up spending quite a lot of money … How does the Crown and Cushion intend to deal with people who have old technology …..or shock and horror …no mobile phone ……these people do exist…. And can the Crown and Cushion afford to let customers walk away …..

I don't want to be a negative Nancy, or a boring Baz but this pub is quite horrendous for the heck of a price you pay. I would rather eat my delicious meal with a pint down at the hatter in Bewsey which is full of benefit scroungers. I feel like I'm in Liverpool when I go there which the amount of universal credit I see. This pub is an absolute shambolic attempt at something so simple. How can you mess up a cheeseburger and pint so badly? My burger looked like it had been run over my a Travis Perkins forklift inside a dusty warehouse. My so called 'fries' looked more like a fries to go from the McColls across the road. I had to pay top dollar for a sachet of tomato sauce. I was challenged to a game of darts, which I gladly accepted however the grey haired man robbed me of my winnings. We were playing for 75p. An awful lot of money, in these times. The beer garden is full of wannabe hipsters and OAP's. I may have to return to the Sportsman's Arms or the Ferry Tavern because they know how to cook a simple cheeseburger. My 8 year old niece ordered a pint of dark fruits but the rude staff refused to serve her. Shoddy really.

This is a thinly veiled attempt to get more customers to a pub in demise. This is a business in a built up residential area and the noise that comes out of it at weekends is bad enough to deal with, but now it happens on a Tuesday as well? This is utterly disrespectful to the local community, many of whom are families with young children. Young children that shouldn’t have to hear the foul language, bansheesque women screaming to all hours, and extremely loud music that the crown and cushion thinks is acceptable to play at a much louder level than is considered proportionate when considering the many homes in close vicinity. The music is also often played long past entertainment licensing laws. And all this to cater for the ‘students’ that have suddenly populated the Penketh area. Maybe it’s the close proximity to the town centre that is drawing all these students in, that has led to this never requested and never required evening of low-brow entertainment. I have visited this pub regularly over the last few years and watched it go through many changes of management and business models. None of which seem to have worked. The prices have increased but the quality has not. The food is of an average standard but not something I would not care to try often. Particularly judging by the smell exuding from the kitchen each day: Not an encouraging odour by any stretch of the imagination. At least the previous regime would clear up the broken glass that is often strewn around the local streets. It seems the current crop of management are yet able to buy a brush and dust pan. Again, families live within metres of the crown and it is on the same road as a primary school. It seems the pub is not as much a part of the community as it’s advertised daytime events would suggest. Please re-think your Mid week evening events and consider your neighbours when doing so. And please, sort the food out and stay with one menu for a while. But hey, not all bad news... at least the card machine works now and sometimes there’s beer available.

The pies are all homemade and there is a great variety of fillings. The pastry is a little hard probably needs more 'fat' content but generally very tasty and filling. We really enjoyed out food. There were quite a few people eating when we were there and all seemed to enjoy their food. The pub provides the pie menu with various accompaniment and along side that they have quite a few normal pub meals such as fish & chips, chicken tikka massala etc., there was also a childrens menu. The staff were friendly and helpful. Over all we had an excellent evening experience. We believe this pub can only get better building on a good sound base as they are.

We booked a meal for 18 of our family hearing this was a nice family pub. We were seated on several different tables unaccomating to us wanting a family catch up! We were told we could ONLY order roast dinners and werent told no original food was of service however the waitress said if only a few didnt want the carvery they would make an exception based on the number of people. We ordered majority roast dinners and 2 steaks and chicken new yorker - we were told we could have this aslong as we had the veg and roast pot from the cavery... however the waitress then still served chicken and chips etc and we were unable to have this... was it that much trouble???? This is one of the worse pub grub food we have visited in warrington with its sloppy veg, burnt roast potatos and yorkshire puddings and the beef required a chainsaw to get through it! Safe to say we will never be visiting again. Thanks for making it easy to pay our bill!

My wife and I dropped in for dinner last week fairly early on about 6.00pm usually a good few people in even midweek but today only us and one other table, bar was quite busy and seemed to be all regulars, but a couple of them were letting you know they were regulars and maybe thought we all wanted to hear their conversation!!! but this happens, ordered our food my wife wanted the crispy beef as usual and I chose liver but alas as has happened on quite a few occasions no crispy beef , staff really helpful and a steak alternative was offered big thumbs up, they keep telling us they get it from someone in china town and its a bit hit and miss?, ok but maybe there is someone or somewhere a little bit more reliable wouldn't persevere if it wasn't so damned good, liver was great and staff were attentive as always. There also used to be quite a few offers on here for food but see that most of them have gone has the food now become a secondary concern as I know the pub itself has got very busy with live music and so on, wont stop us looking for a nice meal here as it beats cooking sometimes.

We have enjoyed dining here twice, well the food was nice and the staff were friendly when you could get their attention. The problem is that this is essentially a drinking establishment with a dining area and the locals indulge in that very annoying pastime of treating the bar as their personal space and have no intention of letting you get nearer. This also results in bar staff being constantly serving and talking to them. It should not be too difficult to make an area for non regulars to get served. Try the food but not at a busy time.

Decor is looking very nice now especially with the new seating however the small raised seating area near the windows isnt practical for those who may easily forget there is s step up/down after a few but other than that everything else is great even the outside seating areas. Not had anything to eat in here for a very long time so cannot comment on that however friends have said it is very good. Downside i would say is perhaps it no longer has a summer 'happy hour' from 5pm til 7pm midweek as it once had so perhaps that could be something to look at introducing back for summer.. 👍🍺😊x

I felt compelled to leave a message after reading recent reviews. The Crown & Cushion has never really been a pub I would visit for food or drink. However, the food I had recently was first class.. it was fresh! Not microwaved like most pubs! Having read the below Oktoberfest review... well I'm disappointed. I thought they were brilliant. I believe it is the red time back in the pub, because they were entertaining. I thought they were hilarious! They got everyone involved and didn't take themselves seriously. Now... I'm not German but I recognised at least 6 songs that they played (being a regular at the Liverpool Bierkeller). The rest of the stuff they played was aimed at the audience they had and we all responded! Get em back!

My Girlfriend & I stopped here after a 10 mile cycle ride along the Sankey Valley Trail. The staff were warm welcoming and very friendly. They didn't serve meals just offered a selection of pies/pasties. We went for the cheese and onion pasties. Which were very tasty and and a very nice pint and a half pint with blackcurrant of Guinness. Which was excellent too. Highly recommend this place and a beautiful location to stop and sit outside and admire the view over the river or the boats moored up on the canal

Delivery and drinks was amazing. The only issue is that I’ve been charged for delivery when it said free delivery for orders over £7
