The Philharmonic Dining Rooms in Liverpool

Booked for Sunday lunch, on arrival we went upstairs to the restaurant, which was empty, so decided to sit downstairs in the main bar. Ordered two roast dinners, on arrival meals were cold, asked for meals to be returned to kitchen , food was returned still cold, asked for refund. Disappointed with booking to dine here, bar area furniture was a bit worn and tatty. Would not recommend as a place to eat .

Lovely old place, cosy and warm

Good service, and the beers are good. Full of history and very comfortable place to spend a relaxing hour. The Gent's toilets are famous but the snugs and bars are really good.

Absolutely beautiful venue worthy of staying for a drink (or two). The venue is extremely old and has wonderful ambience and was the best bar I attended while in Liverpool.

Lovely dining room but could do with renewing some chairs- rips with stuffing showing. The beef rib and shin pie was very tasty but had quite a lot of gristle. The mash and vegetables were good. The starters- salmon and calamari were very nice. Good selection of drinks. Definitely worth a visit.

The Philharmonic Dining Rooms are an institution in Liverpool, as one of the very few Grade I listed buildings in the UK. The decor is absolutely beautiful, however, we were surprised to see the fire alarm go off, and the staff unsure of what to do.

Stunning building and decor. Really good food, including proper suit pastry pies, high quality burgers, and well cooked veg. Beers and soft drinks also great.

Great place but let down by the food.

The pie was really good, we bought 4 different ones to see if they were as good as they said... yes very much we were very satisfied.

An important part of Liverpool’s cultural history and worth a visit. However, it’s looking very tired and in need of a refurb. There was no food service the day I visited, I guess they may have been short staffed. Sat on a leather sofa that had rips all over the seating.

Never disappoints. Staff are friendly, pleasant and efficient. Food always well presented and reasonably priced. We go regularly.

The food was reasonable but the plates were cold - so food very quickly went cold. The heating wasn’t on when we arrived. Toilets were really cold.

Lovely old traditional pub full of historic building features. Serves a nice pint of Guinness too.

The Philharmonic Dinning Rooms (The Phil) on Hope street is an amazing Victorian era pub that offer's a fantastic food and drinks range and this fantastic pub is considered to be the most ornate pub in England. Constructed between the year's 1898-1900 this brilliant Victorian pub had an amazing multi-roomed'Multi-floored interior with lots of interesting fixture's throughout the pub's ornate interior. Theres superb wood panelling and stained glass windows and chandeliers and there's many more interesting features throughout it's multi-roomed interior far to many to put on a review of this size.We have been here hundreds of times over the years and its as good now as when we first went here many years ago. We visited here early in the afternoon on a freezing cold day and it was fairly busy.We ordered a few cask ales at the bar and sat in a side room.The beers we had were from the St Austell Brewery which where 1st rate but they where very expensive at £5.55 for two halfs of cask ales. This pub is without a doubt one of the most ornate pub's you will ever visit and if you're ever around this area of Liverpool pay it a visit you won't be disappointed. An amazing evening, visited Liverpool for a city break and chose to book this venue. No regrets whatsoever and would definitely go back.

We really enjoyed our meal, the food is delicious and good value. Our servers Joe and James were both very nice and welcoming.The philamonic dining rooms is in a very good spot, being next to the Everyman theatre where we are visiting later on. This restaurant is lovely and has great character. Great restaurant, will come again.

Very poor service. Waited 15mins at a reserved table before being approached. Then waited 40mins for our food. The ordered arrived incomplete. We were asked if we’d like any sauces, we said yes, but they didn’t arrive either. Very poor experience after booking in advance for dinner with family on New Year's Day!

Went out with my friend Sam and got served by the most wonderful bartender Joe. His service was super speedy and the drinks were lovely. Will definitely be coming back!

Great pub to visit in Liverpool

Great atmosphere, delicious rabbit cake with mashed potatoes. Great beer and pork cake.

Food average for the price. Overcooked steak that was wafer thin and had to be sent back. Took nearly 30 mins for children's desert to arrive. Was over charged an item when the bill finally arrived and then they tried to add 10% service charge for awful service.

This is an iconic place with wonderful victorian decor and atmosphere.

Wonderful looking pub. Food was stale, cold as if it was 2 days old. We then had the cheek of asking for service charge, which was also exceptionally slow.

Christmas Day dinner. Expected more. Although I guess for the price - you get what you pay for. There was nothing particularly bad about the food - it was just ok. The service was generally good, although would have expected all waiting staff to be dressed appropriately to be serving paying guests and not shorts, t-shirt and trainers. This was just one member of staff though, the rest were dressed smartly. I must say they were generous with the turkey which was very nice as was the pig in blanket and stuffing ball. The rest of the plate - the veg, potatoes were not great, the gravy was ok. The starter and dessert again were just ok. The cheese board - very generous portion but cheese selection a bit boring.

We had Christmas dinner at The Philharmonic Dining Rooms. Great food, beautiful surroundings and a fab team. Tom was our waiter and he was friendly, attentive and made sure we had a lovely time! Would definitely recommend!

I have always enjoyed going to the Philharmonic, both for the ambience and the quality of the food and drink. There’s very little room for improvement, because everything is so good already.

My favourite pub. Built around 1898 and it's not been decorated since! Authentic Victorian interior with oak panels, plaster reliefs decorating the main dining room and stained glass! The food selection is good, reasonably priced and delicious. Absolutely recommended!! Even the gents still had it's original layout!

Fantastic building steeped in history and full of character. Unfortunately the service was very poor provided by disinterested staff. One of our party’s food was cold and although replaced we then had a situation where we were challenged when asking for salt; being told the shaker was on the table when clearly it wasn’t or we would have not had to ask for it. To top it all my partner hate clear our table of plates to allow us space to get another round of drinks. Management please review staffing and customer care standards as a priority. Disappointing considering how much we love visiting this pub.

Had the tapas style items. Good portions, enough for two. Gorgeous building and even better with the Christmas decorations. Seated in the upstairs dining area and then had a drink downstairs before going to see Jamie Callum at the theatre opposite.

Great beer selection. World famous toilets that you can smell in the bar area, not good sorry and they invite women to view the world famous smell.

If you are up at top part of city and visiting the two cathedrals this historic Dining rooms which is now a pin is very well worth a visit. The road it is on is between metropolitan cathedral and Anglican cathedral. Originally associated with livetpool philharmonic concert hall across the road. I booked my reservation a couple of months before, and sure enough, there was my table with my name and time. Great start. Our server Will was a very likeable, professional young man who was informative but not intrusive. You can't go to this icon of Liverpool and not have the pie. No disappointment there. In fact, it was superb. And finally, no trip to Philharmonic is not complete with a visit to the gents urinals. They are world famous. Go there.

I recently dined at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms in Liverpool, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! The staff were incredibly attentive, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. The food was absolutely top-notch, with every dish exceeding our expectations in flavor and presentation. A highlight of the evening was when the staff brought out my partner's birthday cake, complete with candles. They efficiently sliced it up and served it at our table, adding a lovely touch to the celebration. The friendly demeanor of the staff made the whole atmosphere even more enjoyable. I can’t recommend the Philharmonic Dining Rooms enough! I’ll definitely be returning in the future and will be sure to spread the word to others. If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience, this is the place to go!

The building and the fixtures and fittings that go to make the pub are the main attraction. Well worth a visit.

What a fantastic old building. Built to resemble a Victorian Gentleman's club. An amazing selection meals and beers. The waiting staff were really good. The food was hot, appetising and a good serving too. Highly recommended. I'll certainly eat there again.💯👍👍👍
