Dinner booking was for 6:00pm to 8:00pm. We were completely ignored by wait staff and had to approach the bar to get anyone to notice we were waiting for service, so getting just our drinks and starter took almost an hour. Several tables who entered after us were served first. We nearly closed out our bill and walked out after our starter because no one arrived to pick up our empty plates or deliver our mains for another hour. By this point, we had approached the bar multiple times - wait staff were unhelpful and unbothered. The Nicholson's burger we ordered was inedible (tough and rubbery) and our chips were undercooked. No one arrived to ask how the food was, if we wanted another drink, or if we wanted to order desserts (which we might have, as we were celebrating a birthday). Awful service, wait staff completely unaware and inattentive. Unwelcoming environment with overpriced food and nonexistent service. Embarrassed to have taken my partner for their birthday dinner here. Never again.

The Philharmonic Pub is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most beautiful pubs not just in Liverpool but in the United Kingdom, its a magnificent Grade I listed building and one of the finest real ale pubs in our city. The interior is superb, an ornate island style serving bar dominates the main room, its multi roomed, wonderfully furnished and decorated tastefully throughout, the two snug rooms called Brahms & Liszt are amazing, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Hope Street. My twin brother and I were here on a Thursday evening, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, we had a study of their real ale's and in the end we both opted to have Adnams Brewery pale ale, these were served in pristine condition, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced, well crafted pale ale, hints of toffee, hoppy, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a smooth finish, just a classic British pale ale indeed, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and sat with my twin brother, best beer companion in the world. We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Philharmonic Pub we had a great time. The Philharmonic Pub is easy to locate along Hope Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from 11am. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

I went there on Sunday and I left after 25 min - I was ignored. But I came back next day as the place was beautiful and charmed me to that extent that I decided to give it a go again. Interior is extremly nice and chic and food was also tasty. I was served by really nice young lady (among others) who had her first day on the job - she did a splendid job . I would definitly come back one day but only making a reservation in advance

Even if you visit only to do a lap around this beautiful pub, it’s worth it. Beautiful inside and out with many private rooms and a large dining room. Lovely old bar with plenty of draft options and several from the cask. I visited on a Sunday which might be why they had a sign saying food could not be ordered unless you had a reservation made the day prior or even earlier. Was looking forward to a Sunday Roast. Bummer.

Had the unfortunate experience of visiting this venue on a Sunday night after watching a show at The Phil across the road. We were finishing our drinks when the bar manager asked us to leave as he wanted to close up. Fine, as we did so and reached for our coats, the manager leaned in to my sister and aggressively shouted NOW! in her face. I responded by asking why he was being so rude when we were clearly putting our coats on. He said 'Report me if you don't like it!' He even shouted a name at us Marco or something like that. Well you have your wish and a no star review to boot We will never set foot in the place again, what a horrendous individual and shame on you employing somebody so misogynist and aggressive.

I was genuinely impressed by how good the service was from AJ, Emily and Ollie. They were polite, engaging and made us feel, special. They checked in on us a couple of times and we were able to get drinks and the bill without having to look out for someone’s attention to attract. We went on Aintree Races Day and the place was busy. The food and drinks orders were taken efficiently and the quality of food was really good. All this in a breathtakingly beautiful room (I watched other diners taking in their surroundings) Thank you AJ and team for giving us a special evening. 10/10 to you and your team!

Two years ago we had a drink here and thought what a wonderful building. We returned with some friends for an evening meal from our home town of Bristol to the wonderful city that is Liverpool. The atmosphere and history of the interior is unique and amazing, it’s like stepping back into the early part of 20th century. We all had the specialist pies that were SUPERB in meat content and taste. Followed up with the Crumble and custard very nice indeed. Excellent service and information regarding the history of the building from our waitress. Thanks to all the Bar staff and Waitresses who gave us a great evening.

meh... this historic and prestigious place is definitely worth a look!! on the other hand, the reception really leaves something to be desired. 45 minutes without anyone being interested in my table is a long time! at the entrance I was told to sit in the room; the waiter who passed in front of me 20 times did not say a single word to me... not even to explain that we had to order at the bar. Well, so I visited the toilets, and fortunately found a good and inexpensive little restaurant on the way out. in short, too sure of its notoriety this establishment doesn't care much about its customers

I have never been to a dining room anything like the Philharmonic Dining Rooms. High ceilings, fabulous decoration, wooden panelling, leather Chesterfield sofas, great fireplaces, chandeliers. The place is fantastic. There were a couple of side rooms called Brahms and Listz! Apparently it's based on a gentlemans' club - not that I've ever been in one! But we were there to eat so what was the food like? We only managed one of their famous pies and a coffee. I had the steak and ale which was piping hot with plenty of gravy served separately. The only downside - the food was put onto a cold plate so the delicious mash wasn't very warm and there were only 4 pieces of carrot. Not too good if you're aiming for five a day. The coffee was very good and served with a little piece of flapjack. The young staff were all very pleasant and service was prompt.

Jaw dropping Victorian decor and faultless bar food. I'm in love with the architecture here from the copper details, mahogany, stained glass (and rhyming slang Brahms and Liszt on the doors to the snugs). To me, going here for a pint or a meal is like admission to a museum. The food is very good. They offer pub favourites and some more upmarket choices; menu and booking are available online which we prefer. I had fish and chips and my partner had seabass and we both were very happy. Served hot and quickly and prices were reasonable. We were welcomed into the restaurant area warmly. On this occasion there was slight confusion with our reservation and I had to show the confirmation on my phone. It was rectified immediately. It was a perfect casual meal in superb surroundings with great service.

What a fabulous, fabulous place with an incredible team working there. To be fair not everything about our evening was perfect but the way the issues were handled was above and beyond. A shout out first to Joey our server who identified the problem really before we did and took the initiative to resolve it before it became one. Absolutely first class. Secondly to Ashley (sp?) the manager who came over to check that Joey had handled it all well, she needn't have as Joey was excellent but the fact she did was appreciated. Top job. To top it all off the food was fantastic and well worth the wait (We did not have a dinner reservation and had to wait a little for our meal in the bar area). Of course the venue is amazing too and as bizarre as it sounds the period gentlemen's facilities are worth a visit in their own right, epic.

Dined here yesterday evening prior to a show at the Philharmonic Hall. Booked online as reviews seemed generally good. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. On entering the pub/restaurant, the atmosphere seemed very much a drinkers pub, very dark and not particularly pleasant - gave us Wetherspoons vibes other than the building itself is clearly old and ornate. The bar staff were welcoming however and sent us upstairs to the restaurant. The dining room is just a large room with a bar in the corner, plastic flowers on the table - not what we'd anticipated, which was a shame. We ordered a sharing starter between us, then a chicken pie and burger for main course. The pie was supposed to be served with cornish clotted cream mash and thyme roasted carrots. I'm no chef, but the mash seemed like it had been microwaved, as it was in an oval shape and tasted like ones from the supermarket. I'd hope this wasn't the case, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. The carrots, consisted of 1/2 a carrot, cut in 1/2, were practically cold and dry, as if they'd been cooked earlier and left under a hot lamp. On the plus side the pie was really tasty and hot. My Husbands burger was what it said on the tin - nothing special, but ok. Needless to say we didn't bother ordering puddings. It's a shame, as I'm sure with some tlc the building could be beautiful and so much more could be made of the dining room. Staff wise, the bar man was really friendly, with a big smile. The waiter and waitress didn't engage with the customers and didn't seem to want to be there. Overall, we were fed and it was in an ideal location for the Philharmonic Hall - right across the road, but wouldn't go back.
