This should be a four or even a five but I couldn't push myself further than a three star! The beer and wine choice was great, good service provided and very clean inside too. The menu was offering a good variety of food. Sunday roast! You can't beat a Sunday roast right? Those hot roast potatoes, a fair portion of beef? Nice hot Yorkshire pudding? Steaming veg? Plenty of gravy and extra roast potatoes? It wasn't quite there. It felt more like a small taster meal! Or a meal made for a small child then mistakenly passed to the adult! There were two roast potatoes! Yes two!! One small to medium sized and one small! The veg was Luke warm and the Yorkshire pudding was room temperature! Two thin slices of beef underneath it. It looked like more beef was there but I soon realised two slices it was! At a pound under twenty five pounds for the meal I was disappointed! There is definitely a decent chef in the kitchen but the lack of food for a traditional Sunday roast was shocking! I was still hungry after the meal which was a shame! I know it's tough in the catering world but please give us some value for our hard earned money!

We stayed two nights and had an amazing stay. Every member of staff we saw were really friendly and helpful. The Inn is an old building, so the floors are a bit creaky but it adds to the charm. We had breakfasts and evening meals and can honestly the chef is fantastic, the meals were delicious and the steak & ale pie was the best I have ever had. We probably won’t stay again as we rarely visit that part of the country, but if we were I would make it my first port of call.

When walking in the first thing we noticed was the lovely clean smell. We were greet by a very friendly young lady who was the owner of the business. Although we were early the room was ready so she took us straight up to it. The room was beautiful. Everything was exceptionally clean. The room was large and bright and the bathroom was immaculate and had a bath which we prefer. The towels and bedding were again very clean. The food is amazing it was that good we eat there both of our nights stay. The breakfast was delicious. Ordered our hot hot and helped ourselves to granola with mixed berries and yogurt. The hot food was very tasty hot and fresh. We had an exceptionally good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed in a very peaceful setting. We cannot praise this place up enough and can’t wait to return.

Superb. One of our party recommended this place as she used to work here 40 years ago !! Professional friendly greeting, early check in no problem. Lovely 4 poster bedroom with bath. Difficult to get a taxi into Kirkby Linsdale so drove and therefore drove back before drinking further so 6 of us ate in the hotel. Food was excellent, well served & it was busy. Nice area to sit outside in a pleasant garden. Lovely sleep in a comfortable bed. Breakfast spot on & we again moved outside for hour or so before 11am check out. There really is nothing you could fault here

A group of 12 of us stayed here for 2 nights for a local wedding. It was a really lovely little hotel. They were so friendly and very accommodating of us all and our different arrival times including very late arrivals, throughout ensuring that all meals and drinks were split into our different rooms to make our lives easier. Our room was huge, we were in a king size room and so much space. We were above the bar but it closes around 10pm so that wasn’t a problem but the shutters did open around 7:30 each morning and woke us up. The food was fantastic, dinner on first night was great and very reasonably priced for the quality. A great selection of drinks too. Breakfast was really lovely and icing on cake, best hash browns ever! Unfortunately not all of the rooms from the group had showers with holders on the wall so handheld showers were being had, which not everyone loved. Ours was great as had shower over bath but worth double checking what your room has. Thank you for looking after us all so well, would definitely recommend

Stayed here just before the second lockdown. Nicely greeted and brought up to the room. The room was nice but only had bath with a shower head attachment. I'm a shower type of person so was disappointed that this was the case. The food served in the restaurant was very delicious and the breakfasts used very good quality ingredients. I would stay again but only if I was guaranteed a room with a shower.

We only stayed here for 1 night in September, to break the journey back to the South of England from Scotland, but would happily return. Such a well run Inn and very stylish interiors, from the smart restaurant and various bar/lounge areas downstairs to our lovely bedroom upstairs. We had room 5, which had a nice outlook over the car park to the fields and hills beyond. This room is quite compact, with a sink in the room and then an ensuite shower cubicle with toilet. It also has minimal open hanging space (see photo), so would not be suitable for a week's holiday, but it's fine for a couple of nights if you are okay living out of a suitcase. The bed was very comfortable and the Inn is in a peaceful location. We pre-booked dinner as is necessary these days under Covid and enjoyed it very much, even though we had been eating out each night for the past week on our travels in Scotland. We shared a starter from the specials menu of some sort of chicken bonbons on sticks which wasn't too exciting to be honest, but the nachos starter was very tasty and our mains of game casserole for my husband and the hake with patatas bravas and chorizo stew for me were excellent. I then finished off with a sticky toffee bread and butter pudding as I'd seen the reviews of it on here, and was not disappointed! Breakfast was also very good next morning, back in the dining room. Staff throughout were professional and friendly. Would recommend. Rooms in particular are good value for money and food reasonably priced and there's so much to explore in this area of Yorkshire.

Stayed at the Pheasant Inn for two nights in September, the room was spacious and clean. Its a great location for getting around. The lounge area is nice and cozy with a log fire and the restaurant is a great place to eat (we loved the décor). We had an evening meal and breakfast twice and its only fair to say the food was excellent. We went on a buy a gift voucher but having been would be happy to pay the going rate. We have just stayed here for two nights and can't wait to go back. From the warm welcome on arrival until checkout we could not find fault with anything. The staff are very friendly and helpful and everything is set up to be Covid secure from the NHS App QR code to scan on arrival along with their own tracking system, to the visors worn by staff at all times. Guests are also asked to wear face masks whenever they move around. Our room had a four poster bed which was extremely comfortable and a small seating area. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and we ate in the restaurant on both nights where the food did not disappoint, it was delicious. The inn is just over a mile from Kirkby Lonsdale and we did the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail which has breath-taking views. It is about 4.5 miles long and quite rough terrain at times with lots of steps up and down and is operating a one way system at present so once you've started there's no going back! All in all I could not recommend a stay at The Pheasant Inn highly enough and we will definitely visit again.

What a lovely surprise. We booked 2 nights with a BuyaGift voucher given as a Christmas present last year.and normally find the hotels are not good value for money but the same cannot be said for the Pheasant Inn. From the minute we arrived till we left things could not have been better. Covid regulations were apparent from the outset. Anti-bac dispensers at both front and back entrances with information notices placed throughout the hotel. Our first surprise was our room - a 4-poster bed! The room was quite large and was equipped with a TV, dresser, wardrobe, small table and 2 armchairs. There were tea and coffee on the dresser along with a kettle. The bathroom was a really good size with everythng supplied. I think the only downside was that it was a hand held shower head in the bath rather than a stand in shower but it didn't really matter for a few days. Although the window faced out onto a main road there was no traffic noise even at night. The bar area was absolutely spotless and the tables well spaced out. The same could be said for the dining room. The food was delicious with a full menu well prepared by the chef. Breakfast was waiter served. The staff and owners went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. Will we be back - you betcha

7 of us were staying in Casterton, so a meal in the Pheasant Inn was an obvious choice. However, I didn’t expect SUCH a high level of quality, both in the food and the service. This is so much more than just “your average gastro pub”. Even on a Thursday evening (bearing in mind the “eat out to help out” scheme), the only slot we could get was 6.00pm, but we weren’t rushed, because there wasn’t another party booked on our table. A very enjoyable couple of hours. I just wish we lived closer.

Driving back to Sedbergh from Skipton and stopped off here for dinner. Eaten in the Pheasant a year or so ago and was not disappointed then. We opted for an outside table as the weather was still very warm. We had not booked but fortunately we got a table just before they started filling up! COVID regulations adhered to with Track & Trace firm completed and plenty hand sanitizers at the ready. I chose Hake with chorizo and beans which was delicious. Hubby chose steak and ale pie which was also delicious. For desert I had warm chocolate brownie and hubby had fruit crumble. Both of these deserts were perfect. We would usually stop in Kirkby Lonsdale for food however I think we will be stopping here in future. Lovely surroundings, polite and helpful staff. Yes, we will be back soon !

The Pheasant was recommended to us by the owners of the holiday cottage we were in. I sent an email and they responded in good time. We arrived and the set up for Covid precautions were well managed, clear socially distant tables, hand sanitiser readily available and staff were wearing masks. The food was really tasty, for starter I had one of the specials which was a venison terrine/pate, and very good. My husband tried the turkey schnitzel which was also lovely. My main was something that I had been craving for a while and was not disappointed...Liver and bacon with creamy mash, yum! The pheasant main was also very tasty. For pudding my husband had the sticky toffee bread and butter pudding which was very good, I had the mixed fruit crumble, I love my crumble and wasn't totally disappointed with the crumble element, lots of lovely crunchy bits (I don't like soggy crumble). The filling although delicious, had a lot of damson stones in which caught me out when I bit right through one. I only ate half as every mouthful I had, had a stone in. This was mentioned when the plates were collected, and it was stated 'that will be the damsons'. This is the only reason it doesn't have a 5 from me. Even with my pudding review I would totally recommend this restaurant, the food was very good and flavoursome and the staff were friendly.

We eat out quite a lot under normal circumstances but due to the Pandemic this has been rather curtailed. We passed 'The Pheasant' many times on walks and decided that once it re-opened we would visit. We rate this as one of the best places we have discovered in a long time.Obviously we had to book in advance as many of the tables were out of use to comply with social distancing, but the restaurant had been spaced out so that there was suitable room between tables for diners and staff, there was hand sanitizer and staff ensured safety at all times.A lovely setting both outside, with a large car park and outdoor tables overlooking fields, and inside with low beamed ceilings, paneled walls and intimate atmosphere. The menu was varied and did not seem to be reduced as many restaurants have done recently. The service was excellent! Staff were friendly, helpful and courteous and the service was efficient but not rushed. The food was wonderful. The soup was thick and hot and just the right size served with warm bread and butter, the pheasant cooked to perfection, the Hake was moist and flavorsome and the pie had light pastry. The puddings were equally as much of a triumph. the meringue on the special was a delight and the chocolate brownie superb.A really wonderful dinner. We will definitely be back for more!!

Having read previous reviews I am thinking the kitchen was having a bad night. Good welcome, service was ok, old fashioned pub which we love but the atmosphere was slightly odd. Food arrived really quick, starter plates cleared next course delivered almost straight away. In my opinion they need to balance the timings but I appreciate they are trying to deliver an efficient service. We had the ham croquettes and terrine which were ok, however neither of us liked our mains. The fish served with risotto was overcooked and not seasoned, very bland. The chicken was cooked well, but the stuffed sage and onion stuffing in the middle was soggy and the colour made the chicken look undercooked. There was a potato rosti which was made more like a Spanish omelette with an onion relish inside (I think) and it tasted like it had been made in advance and reheated as it was cold in the middle and hard on the outside. There was also a number of items not available on the menu at the beginning of service and a notice up about new opening times so please check before you visit. We have been here before for Sunday lunch and it was amazing, however something has changed at this pub - hopefully just a blip on the night and not a long term issue. We will continue to watch the reviews on the various forums and will try again in a couple of months.

Uooed its game over the last few years and the lounges and bar areas are excellent. Good food but one complaint that has been worked on was that they did not give you a great deal of time to relax over dinner. Once eaten you were out.....in the nicest possible way. A little more time over that would be good. Bedrooms OK but slightly over-priced for what they are. Excellent country location however and in season you are literally overrun with the said birds flying at low level as you drive along the road between Kirkby Lonsdale and Sedbergh.

We slept in room 10 next door to the inn, a perfect place and such a lovely spacious room, out of the way of other guests which is great when you have 2 yappy dogs. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating, the food was delicious (compliments to the chef). Couldn’t fault anything, it’s the best place we’ve stayed in with the dogs. Would definitely come back here.

The pub is truly immaculate inside & we were greeted with a superb friendly welcome. Service was swift, efficient and very friendly. The food choice was excellent and imaginative without being pretentious. Food was very hot fresh and tasty.

What a lovely hotel. Warm welcome by staff. Beautiful views from our window. Bedroom and bathroom spotlessly clean with beautiful soft fluffy bath towels. Meals are excellent, served on hot plates the portiobs are more than ample. All homecooked, including the chips. lovely sitting room downstairs with a log burner, also another snug next to the bar again with a lovely log burner. Everything about this lovely 18th century hotel is wonderful and we will definitely stay there again if in the area.

What a find, which was just through trip advisor. 7 of us came for afternoon tea and we were put in a separate dining room, which we were thrilled with. The food was amazing plenty of sandwiches a lovely warm scone each, plenty of cakes and a slice of delicious cheesecake each. The staff were very friendly and came in regularly to replenish our drinks, it was very reasonable priced and we would love to return thank you

This was a pleasant hotel but the owner was rather brusque with us on arrival. The chef also uses coriander in pretty much anything which is fine if you like coriander but not if you dont. Also be aware that you may not get a room a view like it shows on the website. We had a room on the busy main road with no view.

I visited the Pheasant on Saturday 7 September with 7 other members of my close family and friends. We were seated in the bar area and enjoyed a variety of dishes including traditional favourites like Steak and Ale pie, Gammon and Egg, but also I particularly enjoyed the Egg Plant Parmigiana with Roasted Tomatoes and Cashew Nut Salad. Desserts were second to none with Pear & Damson Crumble and Wild Blackberry and Elder flower Cheesecake, which was most beautiful with a scoop of Vanilla English Lakes Ice Cream i.e. Ice cream which does not taste synthetic!

We called in at the Pheasant - we'd not been for some years and it sudenly occurred to us to go again. We had a lovely meal - steal pie, chicken with mushroom risotto, pheasant for mains, all delicious. Wonderful apple, sultana and hazlenut crumble teamed with ginger custard for dessert - excellent! Friendly, attentive service. Good though small wine list. Try to eat in the bar rather than in the restaurant - nice views in the bar while the restaurant is a bit gloomy. A lovely evening.

We booked last minute to go here and it didn’t disappoint. Nice, spacious and clean room with a very comfy bed. Food was top notch. In a beautiful part of the country with lots to do. Staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. If you want a quiet break and to get away then this is a good place.

A very nicely modernised and updated country inn in the lovely village of Casterton. Excellent food, spacious, modern rooms and very helpful staff. Spacious car park (free), Wi-Fi on the ground floor (but not in the bedrooms) and very good breakfast.

My wife and I wanted to relax and eat a really nice meal in pleasant surroundings after a hot, gruelling 40 mile bicycle ride. We are not from Kirkby Lonsdale, so we didn't know which restaurants could meet our requirements. We turned to Trip Advisor, and quickly chose The Pheasant on the basis of the posted reviews. And after a quick change of clothes (out of the Lycra), we went to the Pheasant. We could not get a table in the restaurant (which looked lovely) at such short notice (it looks like reservations are a must, or almost so). But we were offered a table in one of the 'bar areas'. That was quite acceptable, and we proceeded to have a fabulous meal and experience.

Another visite to the Pheasant last Friday evening and it was very nice! The steak and ale pie is not to be missed and the fish cake was excellent too! The two young lads did a sterling job of looking after our needs and should be congratulated! We tend to come when we visit an old friend at Hutton Roof who lived near me at Haverigg in my youth. If the distance from my home to here was closer, I would come more frequently as anything we have eaten has been first class.

Superb meal, the quality of which was quite unexpected. I could nick pick a couple of things but the layers of flavours and presentation was superb, as was the greeting and service. Prices are ‘normal’ prices but with gourmet standards, so excellent value. Definitely worth a trip and shall look forward to returning.

Worth booking. This restaurant is smart and the food very good. Also well-situated for a short break with excellent walking in the area, handy for Kirkby Lonsdale and it’s amenities, but not in the hustle and bustle.

Visited today for lunch and it was faultless and excellent value. Two courses for £19.95 or three courses or £24.95. After two delicious fish starters, we both opted for roast beef with all the trimmings - and extra gravy! The beef was cooked to perfection as were the vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. One of us managed dessert - fresh strawberry and raspberry pavlova - amazing! The front of house team were very attentive and looked after us throughout our meal.

Three of us went early evening for drinks and food. We were made very welcome by all the staff, sat in the bar area as we had brought along our dog who was given doggy biccies by the young lady serving our table (with drinks as well as food). There was a good range of real ales and largers, the food was top quality and the place has a real nice ambiance.

We have just come back from a delightful 2 night stay in the gorgeous inn. Our welcome on arrived was friendly and our four poster bed room comfortable and cosy. The breakfasts were delicious as was the dinner on our first night. The only slight criticism was all food arrived very quickly in the evening. Maybe ask for a short break between courses. After our meal we relaxed in the lovely lounge with a warm fire very cosy . The staff were great and so helpful I cannot recommend the place highly enough.

Relaxing weekend away in The Pheasant. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hosts friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The most amazing part was the food, the menu isn’t huge but it’s definitely 5*, it was presented really well and tasted amazing.

Food & staff spot on but I really do have to defend the owners here when a group of hikers turn up & decide to sit in their garden eat their own food get their flasks out & then buy a couple of drinks to make it ok REALLY.If that was my pub I’d have told you to go else where as well, then you’ve gone this site to make it sound as if the owners were at fault. You can’t take a car into a garage & service it yourself & use there equipment then drive away.terrible behaviour.

As a group of hikers who were hungry for a bite to eat, thirsty for a few beers and in need of a decent break, we stopped at this pub and immediately went to sit on a bench in their garden. Upon arrival, we were going to buy some drinks so that we could eat our own lunch outside without being discourteous.

Friendly welcoming staff. Comfortable room with lovely bedding and towels. Dinner and breakfast were very nice - really well cooked and presented food. The menu isn’t huge - but we always think that’s a good thing - and really nice selection of wines. Great location for all the lovely sights the Dales has to offer. If I was being picky I’d say our room was slightly dated and the curtains would be better with some lining to keep the room a darker, but the place is spotlessly clean and the staff very attentive and nothing too much trouble. Would recommend as both a great place to stay and eat

We stayed here for three nights and Carol the owner was very willing to give information about good, safe walks around the immediate area. James was an absolute delight and could not do enough. We ate here for the three nights (never intended to but the food was delicious) - the only downside was that the mains came very quickly after the starter but James sorted that for us. Absolutely lovely place to stay in - clean, warm and the views are spectacular - we will miss it but will definitely be back!

We had room 6 which overlooked a field with sheep and lambs.very nice.Room was spotless and warm with a cozy feel.Only downside the tv was small for the size of the room. Breakfast was really nice and dinning room was lovely. Everyone was friendly It was a little out of the way for us, we like to leave the car behind and walk to the nearest village .There are some lovely views and countryside nearby if you drive a little way

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was lovely and good value for money. We sat outside which is a great little sun trap for those rare sunny days in the Lake District. We would high recommend and we will definitely be back .

We have been here many times over the years and love it. Dropped in for a drink last week. Wooooah! £9.80 for a Prosecco and a pint of cider shandy is the same price as a pint of cider - about £7. So by that maybe a pint of lemonade is also £7? I’m sure many people stop for a drink while walking in the beautiful lakes but next time we might find another stopping point. Although living in the North East maybe we just have cheaper pubs up here??!!

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
