Very expensive and not very nice. The fish cakes had no flavour, the Thai curry was like a supermarket ready meal & the sticky toffee pudding was overmicrowaved.Very disappointed and felt like we were ripped off

There were seven in our group and we were all very happy with our food. Everything was extremely well prepared and the service, provided by Jenny, was faultless. We had a variety of dishes. Two of our party had a brunch with perfect poached eggs. Two had lambs liver which was thoroughly enjoyed; one of us had mussels and fries which were served with delicious sauce and a generous serving of bread, one had haddock and chips and one a deconstructed Thai chicken curry. All were delicious. The surroundings were very pleasant in a light and airy dining room. Would recommend.

Visited for my birthday. The staff were so so friendly and welcoming. I was given a birthday card and with dessert I was brought out a special birthday message in chocolate. It was all very special. What wasn’t that welcoming were the other guests, it was very bizarre. The clientele is older white couples/groups, so as a younger couple I felt like we stood out and were stared at by other diners. Absolutely nothing to do with the restaurant or staff themselves but definitely a little off putting.

Met friends for lunch. Advised by two of them to have the tempura prawns. Frankly the batter was awful, thick and greasy so I had to remove the batter from the prawns. The waitress asked if everything was OK and myself and one of the other ladies complained about the awful batter. She said they had an agency chef in. I guess the agency chef went to Bookers to make life easy as that was definitely not batter made on the premises. Sorry

We always try to get a meal at this hotel when we visit North Norfolk and we booked a Sunday lunch in the Orangery. As usual the service and staff were first class and the food excellent. Clearly the hospitality trade is suffering from staff shortages and as the afternoon went on they got further and further behind with the service. Every body was trying their best but they were struggling. In the end we gave up waiting for a sweet menu so decided to finish and visit nearby Kelling Garden Centre and had an excellent coffee and cake there. This is not enough to put me off coming again but lets hope they have enough staff to handle a busy Sunday lunch service next time. Visitors should also be aware that dogs were allowed into the Orangery. Not a problem if you don't mind dogs and the dogs are well behaved.

We went for Sunday lunch which isn’t something we normally do as it can be hit and miss depending on where you go, however The Pheasant blew all other Sunday lunches out of the water! The setting itself is beautiful, stunning decor and spotlessly clean. The standard of service was good but it was the only thing about the whole experience which could have been slightly improved but it’s a difficult time for hospitality and it certainly won’t stop us from coming back. The food was stunning from start to finish- beautiful flavours and visually very appealing. I think The Pheasant is going to be our new favourite restaurant….I can’t believe it took us so long to visit! We can’t wait to come back and I’m determined to have a glass of Pheasant Royal next time!!!

We stayed here for a few nights and had breakfast every day and dinner a couple of nights, and i was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. It looks slightly better on the plate and in photos than it tastes, but overall, the breakfasts were really very good and the dinners were well above average.. I'm not sure whether the fact a week later i can't remember what we ate, matters, but i do recall being happy with it at the time.

We booked here for Sunday lunch during our stay in Norfolk and selected the ‘casual dining’ option in the Orangery when booking. This is where we were seated on arrival and let’s just say we felt very under-dressed compared to other guests! Despite this we still enjoyed a lovely meal. What we also did not realise is that it is a two or three course option, but we only wanted the one course with the main meal. The staff were very accommodating to adjust our bill so we were not overpaying for what we had ordered. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for Sunday dinner as the food was cooked beautifully, giant Yorkshire puddings too, however I would say do your research first to avoid feeling a little out of place like we did!

We entered the hotel and were greeted by sign advertising for staff, which suggested and indeed was confirmed throughout the meal, that they were short staffed and the new people not fully trained. I think it’s possible to get away with this in the fast food restaurants of the world, but more difficult to hide in what is regarded as a main stream restaurant. The main restaurant was closed and the more informal garden room with its doors open to the world was a pleasant enough setting, although somewhat unsuited the bottles and cans scattered around the table we sat down to eat.I dislike food not served on the plate, so I was immediately wary of the starter, tempera prawns that were delivered in minature wire baskets. Actually they were quite nice, (but it seems to me) that the chef must lack confidence in his food if he feels the need to distract. The fish and chips were nice although very expensive and not the haddock advertised on the menu. They were served without tartar, or even the offer of tartar, another indication of the staff training need.My colleague’s liver and bacon looked stunning and was quickly consumed with a finishing mmmmmmmmmmmh. However, we were all disappointed by the dogs that appeared initially in the bar and ultimately in the restaurant! there was no indication when we booked that this was to be the case, and it did cause us to leave early and somewhat dissatisfied.

We chose the main restaurant - it is a rather cavernous space very formal and lacking ambience in many ways however that did not detract from the service and quality of foodIf we had known we would have chosen the less formal brasserie which is conservatory like with glass upwards and outwards to the green space. You can still have the restaurant menu there The wine list was expansive and reasonably pricedThere was a good value fixed three course menu with options. The cromer crab croquettes as a starter were delicious and beer battered haddock thinly battered without the dreaded mash peasThe strawberry parfait coulis and meringue even though standard fare was perfect way to finish

My partner and I came here for dinner after seeing good reviews. Unfortunately we were left incredibly disappointed. The male restaurant manager was lovely, however the rest of the staff were lacking any customer service skills. The starters of salmon tartare and crab were tasteless with stale bread. Talking of bread, we were not given any and had to ask twice for some. The mains were better but the portions were tiny. Overall, the meal was grossly overpriced and there was no atmosphere in the entire restaurant. We would not recommend and will not be returning.

Having read all the hype about the great food, we booked an evening meal for two. At £29.50 for 2 courses, it wasn’t cheap - but we were looking forward to a culinary treat. We were disappointed.I had a dressed crab salad. The salad had no fresh tomato, no cucumber, no anything apart from a handful of rocket leaves, two small gherkins, and half a teaspoon full of sun dried tomato out of a jar. The crab was great, but the portion quite small. My soup for starter was hot, tasty, but nothing special. My wife felt the same about her meal, so a total cost of £81 which included a glass of wine each seemed overpriced. It didn’t help with the untrained staff who insisted on saying “there you go” every time they put down a plate or glass. That’s just a pet hate of mine, others will disagree.

We had both breakfast and dinner each day in the Pheasant restaurant during a 4-night stay in the hotel, and the food was of a consistently high quality. The breakfast was full table service, and the choices were great, with a wide variety of alternative options to complement the traditional breakfast. The dinner menu was varied each evening, with plenty of fish and vegetarian options, good portion sizes and a wine list to complement. Highlights for me were the warm goat’s cheese tart, a superb sea bream dish (the fish was cooked to perfection) and a beautiful vanilla pannacotta dessert. The service was discreet and timely from all staff. I would have no hesitation in returning, or recommending, this restaurant whether as a resident or non-resident of the hotel.

It was smart, with attentive service, but two of our five dishes were poor; the crispy egg was a thin crumb crust wrapped round a hard yolked egg; the pheasant was so tough it needed a steak knife. We dined here for one evening. Having already found our room, and indeed the whole hotel, to be so well appointed, we had high hopes of a great dinner. The first course was mixed - my wife's crispy egg went down well although my mussels had been steamed mainly in water, not wine, so there was much disappointingly bland broth. They were also a bit gritty, and could have been what gave me a mild overnight stomach upset. For mains my wife liked the vegetable wellington, especially its presentation. I had the "game pie" special which looked to have been cooked in a large pot then the filling dumped in small bowls with pre-cooked pastry crusts placed on top. It probably wouldn't have made much difference if the pie had been individually made and baked with the pastry covering, however it just didn't present well: the accompanying kale plus large potatoes didn't promote the sense of haute cuisine either.Puddings - lemon & lime pie and brulee - were both ok.Particularly commendable was the Veuve Delaroy Brut NV champagne which is excellent quality for the price.Service was very good throughout. My wife summed it up as being the sort of meal to expect in a gastropub, whereas given the prices on the menu, the price of the hotel, and the previous reviews, we had been hoping for better. For me, the mussels unfortunately set the tone.

We both enjoyed salads but @£14 each thought they were a little pricey. Drinks very expensive but comfortable setting so will return.

Wonderful location for a relaxing break, but sometimes it is not wise to return a second time. A little more attention to detail will make it perfect

After a slight misunderstanding between staff about where I should park at the start of the evening, the rest of the night was excellent and I would highly recommend the Pheasant for fine dining. We could mix and match food from 3 different menus and with 6 of us dining we selected a broad range of different items from the menus. All of them were attractively presented and tasted wonderful. The waiting staff were very attentive. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing dinning experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent short stay here. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable orangery and bar for drinks and large restaurant for meals and breakfast. Our breakfast was freshly cooked and there was a wide range of items on the buffet table as well. Our rooms were well decorated with everything you could possibly need. At night it was so quiet and peaceful. Would love to stay again and will certainly recommend it to our friends.

We have stayed here twice at this beautiful modern hotel and have often eaten in the restaurant as we find it better than some places nearby and in a much better environment. White table linen and napkins and pleasant staff add to the overall ambiance. There are two restaurants, one near the lounge area being dog friendly. There are pleasant views over the extensive gardens. Locally produced food and a good choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dining al fresco in the summer is recommended. Champagne and prosecco by the glass also.

This was our Anniversary dinner and met all our expectations. The food was very good and so was the service. It is a lovely setting and much improved on former ownerships.

I visited The Pheasant for a ladies lunch. We had a warm welcome, the lounge was lovely. Our table was beautifully set in the Orangerie with lots of space around us. I had the game terrine, the chutney was amazing.

I arranged to stay here as the family were attending a family funeral in Cromer. I had booked 2 separate rooms and one of the Standard rooms was for my wheelchair user husband and the receptionist said she would move the chair and desk out...

We stayed overnight in the hotel and chose to eat in, preceded by a cocktail in the adjoining bar. We found the service to be friendly and helpful. The dining room is spacious and the tables are not 'on top of each other' which is another plus point. There's also a good wine list. Food is freshly prepared and having seen calves liver on the Orangery menu I asked if I could have this in the restaurant and that was no problem. Both my wife's and my meal were nicely presented and were delicious. This is a good restaurant and means you can enjoy a drink (i.e. a nice bottle of Chablis) with your meal without being constrained by driving elsewhere. The restaurant is good value for the quality of food, service and ambience. Recommended? Certainly!

The beautiful airy light Orangery is the ideal situation for lunch. The liver was perfectly cooked with crisp thin streaky bacon on a bed of mash with delicious gravy. Beatrout and goats cheese Tart Tatan. The tempura prawns in delicate batter are always a delight as a starter or main.

The combination of the a la carte and specials menu give plenty of choice. The two evening meals we ate there were well cooked, well presented and the service was great - timely but not rushed. The Orangerie also serves meals including lunches and the light lunch had there was tasty and leisurely. Dogs are allowed.

Booked late in the day for the same evening but so glad I did. We had a wonderful meal with really good service. The restaurant is really lovely. There were not many tables being used but this was a Monday night. The lady, when I booked, asked if it was a special occasion which I replied our Wedding Anniversary and when our meal was finished they brought out a plate with lovely chocolates on and Happy Anniversary written around the plate. This was a lovely touch and much appreciated. We will definitely be eating there again.

Visited this quiet and pretty setting en famille for my birthday. The service was excellent and attentive and the food was beautifully presented and each course matched the very good descriptions on the menu. Each plate equally delicious and not over priced. Hard to beat I'd say. Thank you for a perfect evening.

Had a really pleasant lunch last week, drinks in the garden, lunch in the orangery with lovely beetroot starter and main-my choice as lovel beetroot-other tempting items too though! Service was good but if being really picky the rhubarb dessert wasn't as nicely crafted as the first two courses... Still a lovely meal. Our only problem was that quite a few diners had dogs with them at the table , although dogs are not allowed in the restaurant they are in the adjoining orangery. Not really sure why this is different and although it is clearly stated that dogs are welcome it would definitely make us think twice about returning.
