What a fantastic place to spend an hour or two enjoying the grade 2 listed interior of this former pharmacy. The staff were lovely and welcoming, spending ages making a fuss of our dogs, before we had the difficult decision on what to order. I opted for the mushrooms on toast while my other half went straight in for a slice of blueberry and lemon cake which not only looked fantastic, it tasted amazing. We even took a few slices with us to have on the train. We’ll definitely be come back a few more times this week

Excellent cafe with a great atmosphere. The building was originally a pharmacy and much of the decor has been kept in place. Had an excellent breakfast, with good quality ingredients. All the staff were incredibly friendly and had a great sense of humour. It's an easy place to find, right in the main street. Well worth a visit.

I popped in for a quick cuppa whilst on a 20min parking spot. It was near closing so quite empty but still a lovely vibe. I was served by Nicky, a very friendly waitress & the Earl Grey tea & Viennese Whirl ( baked on the premises) were to die for. I'd thoroughly recommend it & WILL go back when I have more time. Well done for being so authentic & friendly.

We didn’t get a chance to eat or drink here because we were shouted at by a male customer to “SHUT THE DOOR” as soon as we entered the crowded room. We hadn’t even had the chance to choose a table nor take our coats off, but there was only one table with two chairs available - right in front of the malfunctioning door. The door was stiff to open, because there was a stone jammed under the door, which hindered its opening and closing, and left a scraping mark on the floor. Owners and staff please note this could be a danger to the health and safety of potential customers. As the customers were staring fixedly at us as we entered, I can only presume the food was mediocre, and they had nothing interesting to talk about except stare at customers entering, and perhaps shout at them concerning the dilapidated furniture. Later on some other friends said it used to be a nice place, but it had gone downhill since change of ownership. There are plenty of other lovely places in this Devon market town to eat and drink at.

We popped in for a quick coffee, we had never been in there before and it is beautiful in this restaurant. All the original drawers are on the wall and the floor and glass cabinets are stunning. You can imagine the place as a Victorian pharmacy! However, looking around I found the place a little grubby, I hate to be picky but it was. There was a sort of cage opposite the stairs, where you go up to the loo, full of old clothes. No idea what that was about. The staff were pleasant but even the menu was sticky. My coffee had spilled into the saucer so it went on my clothes when I picked it up. The tea cake was virtually flung on the table!! I think this place needs a little bit of loving care to bring it up to the standard it deserves.

The positives: the food is what you expect in a small cafe: sandwiches, filled potatoes etc. The cakes are exceptionally good and look homemade. The cafe itself is absolutely stunning, a (presumably) vintage pharmacy with a lot of the fittings. However, it's all let down by some of the staff. The person who served me was snappy and impatient, so much so that I found myself apologising for not having heard what she said. I asked for a slice of lemon with my tea: not available. I felt unwelcome to be honest, and although I've eaten there several times before, this is the second bad experience and I won't be going back. If I'm spending my money somewhere, I expect the service to be helpful and cordial.

I had heard lots of positives regarding having a lunch here. We were offered which looked like the menu, but on looking around the premises later noticed a 'specials' mirror, why did no one say 'we have a specials menu ? '. Went for bacon, brie and cranberry panini (which was infact a baguette type roll), so not as advertised ! ! White baguettes are not as easy as a 'panini' to eat and at £9.10 very poor value, despite a few crisps and a selection of leaves. Also amazed by the tiniest of cups for the coffee (mean to the extreme ). Probably won't visit again too many negatives for us.

Went in here today for lunch my friend and myself. Had sandwiches and pot if tea. My friend had half sandwich and small soup and tea with me. It was delicious and very fresh and delivered quickly. The staff were very polite and lovely. The toilet is quite a few stories of stairs so would definitely not suit someone with mobility problems. The toilet was spotlessly clean. The food cost just under £18 so on the expensive side but very delicious. We are here for a few days from Cardiff.

The interior design of this cafe is beautiful. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food as we did not stay. My son is a bit of a fussy eater. We asked if was possible to have sausage beans and hashbrowns for him (the only 3 breakfast items he likes). They would not accommodate us. We were told that the hash browns are portioned for the vegan breakfast only and they can't split them. I have never been to a cafe that would not accommadate such a simple request. I would avoid if you want something a bit off menu

Happened to park opposite and went in for a drinks and a snack. To late for food but the staff member apologised and suggested cakes(great selection) or scones. I chose cheese scones, with chutney and cream cheese(unusual). Earl Grey tea and a coffee. Beautifully presented and delicious. Tea was very good quality, The Devon Tea Company. The coffee was good too. The staff were all so welcoming, friendly and very efficient. Tables all cleared and cleaned quickly. The original pharmacy fittings are stunning. A couple came and sat outside with a dog and without being asked a staff member took out a bowl of water for the dog. That was a lovely gesture. I cannot recommend The Pharmacy highly enough and will be a regular visitor in future. An asset to Newton Abbot.

I walk past this cafe/bistro everyday and see there delicious looking cakes, so one lunchtime to popped in and I'm so glad I did. I had a multi layer cake and it was delicious. Soft, moist, light and fluffy, could not fault it, so much so that I took a slice of the carrot cake to go so my other half could sample how good the cakes are, and he agreed. Delicious.I have since gone in there again and this time had a slice of Victoria sponge and a toasted tea cake and oh my that Victor a sponge was superb. We've tried a lot of bakeries in and around this area and so far these are the best cakes, so light, moist and fluffy. Would definately recommend. Obviously reopened, presumably under new management, as we called in for lunch. Nice enough place if not the warmest of welcomes. Order taken quickly but interestingly, whilst we were waiting, a couple of ladies got up and walked out as four people who came in after them were served before them. An elderly lady also walked out due to noisy children. What I found a little strange however was that none of the staff seemed to care less!! We had sandwiches and quiche with salad and the food itself was fine and reasonably priced. If the new owner is going to make a success of this place I suggest they address their customer care policy pretty soon!! Doubt we will rush back.

A combination of a cream tea, ploughman's and sandwich ordered. Cream tea - 2 large scones arrived with the customary clotted cream and jam. 2 scones here will fill you up to the eyeballs so be prepared or order just one if you want to be able to stand up properly when you leave. Ploughman's - a very generous combination of bread, fruit and cheese. The cheese wedges alone would have kept a family of mice fed for a year. Not an option for weight watchers members! Sandwich - chicken and bacon included with a side of crisps and token salad. The sandwich was packed with the filling and was tasty and even though this was supposed to be a light afternoon snack it ended up seeing me avoid an evening meal as I was still full.

The coffee's good, the cake's good. This was a re-visit, we used to come here quite often .... for coffee and cake, to the old Victorian Pharmacy, a museum piece. It's on the Tourist Information recommended route. The food used to be pretty basic café food, with a somewhat tatty upstairs overspill area, used when very full. Well, it seems new owners have done quite a bit. There was never too much space, lots of tables squashed in amongst the antique apothecary "runs" of mahogany drawers. Very authentic, ready made décor. The interior, with its authentic history, is listed I believe. It's worth going just for that, but I must say we will be back for the steaks, and maybe the Sunday lunch. Parking is pretty good for a town centre. We like Newton Abbot (EXCELLENT fish shop/smokery just up the road).

Whilst my husband had his fill of chips and all the usual trimmings I had a fabulous filet steak with a lovely salad and new potatoes. Of course the wine doesn’t count and the house red was deliciously Italian and reasonable priced. Will definitely go back and try a lunchtime healthy bite. We had breakfast for 5 people with drinks and everyone commented on how nice it was. Four of us are vegetarian, it seems the chef makes his own vegetarian sausages. They were amazing! Everything was cooked and presented well. The staff, in my opinion, we're a credit to the owners. We booked for 8.15...by which time they already had run out of fillet steaks and scallops...leaving an already limited menu even more restricted. Ordered king prawn cocktail expecting something with a modern twist, sadly a 70's prawn cocktail served in a slightly too tall glass making the eating a bit precarious. Husband had patė, probably average. Two sirloin steaks, cooked well but thin and not overly tasty. Peppercorn sauce and sides very nice.

Sorry, but personally, I was not very impressed overall. I found it to be rather cold inside and could have perhaps done with some warm looking heating to match the surroundings.

Had a nice lunch with good service, owner very friendly. The Bistro is now clean and fresh which is a big improvement from before with last owners. Apparently they are developing their menu so would return, nice for a coffee and cheese on toast.

Visited this bistro today. Upon entering we were seated and politely asked to order at the counter when ready. Such a shame there’s no table service for the price you pay e.g. £5.50 for a piece of chocolate cake - I mean really? My fault for not noticing I suppose - too busy thinking about the chocolate :/). I am sure it is very popular but not for us again I’m afraid.

What a great tradditional Inn. 800yrs of history and character. Superb location, albeit down a few country lanes. All bedrooms with ensuite. Spacious and comfy. Fully loaded pub with snooker room, and darts room, bar and lounge and quiet reading snug type lounge. Large dinning room with breakfast bar. Large beer garden. Fully operational commercial kitchen. Stock your own bar and music player that feeds music to all areas. We had 20 family members in our group and all enjoyed the facilities. Would recommend to others who want a family holiday. We all did our own sightseeing in the daytime and came home to the pub to eat as a family and enjoy pub type nightime, with games, music, chat and a drink. Awesome!! Lastly, great and friendly host, always on hand if needed, but allowed you to enjoy the facilities. Superb !!

We were welcomed by the head bar man, what a gentleman & a legend taking the time to talk to us. We had visited Buckfast Abbey & drove through this quaint little village, parked cheaply in the pay & display & popped into this small village pub. Great little traditional pub, pool table on the right hand side, very clean & throughout. Good selection of beer & ales. We sat in their well tendered gardens. Definitely recommend for a stop off.

A lovely much needed addition to this town! Always greeted with a smile and a chat. Friendly place to grab a bite to eat and drink. You never know what is going to be on the menu, always something a little bit different but usually a safe option for others wanting something more usual. However I would say a set menu is something this place could benefit from. Especially being a mum and wanting to take my child somewhere, it’s not always convenient to just see what’s on the board today, as it’s not always child friendly! But other than that it’s a nice little place that I hope sticks around for a while

I love the cheese straws that seem to be unique to Luders, order early as they sell out very quickly. Best jam doughnuts I've come across, and when in season the strawberry flans are not to be missed.

This is a little gem in Teignmouth! Very understated from outside, but once inside the staff are in full customer care mode. We were greeted by friendly bar staff who explained our table wasn’t ready, however we could have a drink at the bar. All good for us as we enjoy a relaxed dining style. No stress. We were shown to our table and the menu explained. We knew it’s was tapas but the waiter explained the rough number of dishes to order as a couple. We ate everything from the standard tapas dish, Patatas Bravas, to a gorgeous Chicken dish with Thyme & Lemon, Chorizo in red wine, Lobster Arancini and Goats Cheese. Every dish was really lovely and felt like a unique experience in the area. We didn’t experience the cocktails, but finished dinner with a liquor coffee. The bill was a pleasant surprise too as we were estimating a lot more! Would recommend and will definitely be returning when back visiting family in Teignmouth later in the year. Thank you all!
