The Petersfield in Cambridge

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere but food let them down. Waldorf salad had a strange taste. Most unpleasant. Mussels were good but Celeriac mash cold, sent back and returned still cold an ice cold,plate. they said it was purée and should be cold. Menu called it mash.

The Sunday lunch was very good and plenty of it. A rustic atmosphere and very friendly .

Unfortunately disappointing. Heard lots of good reviews about Sunday roasts here with good portion sizes. Sadly not on this occasion. Was really not worth £24. No Yorkshire pudding which was only explained after meal arrived and was due to a kitchen error. Only one solitary slither of carrot and a couple of slithers of parsnip and a few potatoes. Beef was tasty but again really meagre for the price. A real pity as the staff are very friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere. Will return again no doubt but really hoping it meets up to expectations based on what friends have told me.

Qué encantador pub del centro de la ciudad enclavado en Hooper Street. Es muy acogedor, con una mezcla de mesas y muebles que reflejan el estilo de una casa individual en lugar de uno de los conglomerados. Tiene un hermoso fuego de madera rugiente que ayudó a crear un ambiente encantador. Está claramente bien administrado por un gerente joven que tenía un fuerte sentido de la buena gestión de la hospitalidad, lo que los clientes quieren y necesitan. El personal era muy afable, atento y tiene buenas habilidades con el cliente. Lamentablemente, el menú tenía un pequeño número de platos no disponibles. Los 3 elegimos diferentes entrantes y todos fueron declarados sabrosos y buenas porciones. Para el plato principal mi esposa y yo elegimos el filete de ron que era de un buen tamaño y muy tierno, sabroso y cocinado perfectamente a nuestro gusto. Las patatas fritas fueron las mejores que he probado durante mucho tiempo, crujientes, sazonadas y de buen color. La salsa de pimienta en grano fue un buen acompañamiento para el filete. Sin embargo, el chef había decidido cortar cada uno de los filetes en tres trozos. Me alegró mucho la opinión del gerente, que coincidió con la mía de que es el cliente el que debe elegir cómo cortar el bistec y no el chef. El punto es que una vez cortado ¿cómo identificar un filete como lo que había ordenado. Estaba lleno de disculpas y dijo que nunca había visto eso hecho antes y que tendría una charla con el equipo de cocina. Sin discusión hizo las deducciones apropiadas. Esta fue nuestra segunda visita en un año. Es un súper pub y nos complace decir que estamos deseando volver de nuevo cuando volvamos a la zona. Bien hecho, el Petersfield.

Un lunes perezoso a la hora de comer Adnams stout, muestra y pinta. No hay reserva, encontramos espacio para comer. Menú agradable, agradable. Mi esposa - Una hamburguesa con patatas fritas – muy agradable. Buen jugoso, cocinado @ medio - bueno. (no por pedido). Buen sabor a carne. YO, estofado de venado. Como un filete cortado. Medio cocido con salsa. Sabroso. Necesitaba almidón también (no incl) así que como un pedido de después - pensé que tenía nuevas patatas que eran deliciosamente esponjosas

Best Sunday roast in Cambridge. Good food, great presentation.

Only found this place a few months back and now I really enjoy eating here. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly. The place can get busy, but had a really nice atmosphere.

Absolutely amazing food!! I was incredible happy with my steak and if you are around this area make sure you get a chocolate brownie it is phenomenal. Our server Coco was a delight, very patient and attentive with our order.

Typical English Pub! Differentiated by the service, the food was very interesting, well prepared and well served. A delight.

Le daría 0 estrellas si pudiera. Mi pareja y yo fuimos el domingo a las 4 pm, sí, es tarde en el día para un asado y esto era obvio en la comida. En primer lugar, el plato llegó sin verduras, y soy vegetariana, así que era la mitad de mi comida no allí. Hacía calor, nada estaba caliente, pedimos queso de coliflor como acompañamiento, y sin exagerar nada tenía sabor. Tuve que sazonar mi comida 3 veces para que supiera a sal. El queso de coliflor estaba en una salsa blanca que no tenía ningún sabor a queso. Las verduras no tenían sabor, ni siquiera estaban sazonadas. Las patatas no tenían sabor. Era la comida más sosa, aburrida y tristemente ni siquiera caliente. Para colmo nadie volvió a preguntarnos cómo estaba así que nos lo comimos. Cuando nos pusimos de pie para salir un camarero vino y ofreció la cuenta y tenía un £ 6. 95 de cobro obligatorio por servicio aunque no teníamos ninguno. En general £ 60 para el asado más aburrido nunca valió la pena. Nunca recomendaría.

Love the Petersfield for Sunday lunch. Looking forward to going back when they have sorted out their meat supplier. Beef was difficult to cut let alone chew. Took it all back for the dog. Nobody asked us how the food was even after they had put all the meat in a doggy bag.

Came for a roast meal on Sunday - our reservation was at 3pm and unfortunately they had run out of the veggie option. The only option otherwise was the vegan burger, which didn't feel like a great alternative! The roast beef was fine, but for the price, a single slice of beef felt slightly cheap and as though they were running out of food. However, the pub has a really great atmosphere and it was lovely to see it so busy!

I love the vibe at the Petersfield. It's a classically beautiful pub, the staff are unusually lovely, and they have interesting events like the sunday pub quiz. They also have a good selection of beers and ciders. The only downside is the food. I've been here a few times, and have ordered the burger, fish and chips and the sunday roast. All of these dishes were disappointing. The burger was bland, the fish batter was far too oily, and the sunday roast chicken was dry. If they could just improve the quality of their food offerings, I'd be a regular.

Teníamos una gran mesa de 14 ya que estábamos en Cambridge para una celebración de cumpleaños. El pub era muy servicial y servicial. La comida es excelente, buena comida de pub pero elevada. No puedo recomendarlo lo suficiente, en todos los niveles.

This place is always great. Tasty food, a big range of drinks and wonderful atmosphere.

Fairly quiet mid week, but that didn't stop us having a great meal - the steak off the specials board was well prepared with a fresh salad to pair. Good beers on tap. Staff were extremely friendly with some good recommendations. Thoroughly recommend.

Went here for a Sunday roast, and it was pretty disappointing. The meat was so tough and the sides were cold, which really ruined the meal. The veggies were bland, and the potatoes tasted like they'd been sitting out for hours. To top it off, one of the staff members was actually asleep at the bar, which didn’t exactly give off the best impression. For the price, I expected way better. I definitely won’t be coming back for a roast anytime soon.

Came to petersfield for dinner tonight, was small choice to pick from the menu but I will say was the dishes they had I knew they were hearty meals, so for starters I had the salt and pepper squid with a spicy mayo it was a very decent size portion and the taste was great presented like a rustic look was more than satisfactory was excellent then to follow I had the sirloin steak cooked rare and a side of kale and green beans, took the first bite from the steak and it was amazing cooked to perfection it came with nice portion of thick cut chips and peppercorn sauce let’s just say the plate went back empty couldn’t pick a fault with either dish, not only the food was exquisite but the atmosphere was awesome and the staff were very friendly and approachable definitely be going back there again with friends had a great time

This is a lovely air conditioned pub easy walking distance from local shopping centre and premier inn we are staying at. We chose a day it was 33c so it's lovely to cool down . Had lovely food in the garden too. Great stuff.

A really great pub. It’s lovely inside with a small courtyard. The staff are great, really friendly and welcoming. Our meals were excellent and the chips were the best we’ve had for a long time. Definitely worth a visit.

This is my go-to in Cambridge for a Sunday roast, the veggie option is delicious (just make sure to ask for the Yorkshire pudding to be included!), others in my group had various meat roasts and really enjoyed also. Puddings were nice but, if I'm being picky, felt small for the price. More generally the pub has a cosy atmosphere and good selection of real ales, AND a fun quiz on Sundays. What more could you want?!

Sunday roast arrived cold. The veggies were microwaved. Way too expensive for a mediocre roast.

Have been here twice now, once with friends and once with work. The work trip was most recent with us being a group of 16. The Petersfield team were amazing all the way through from booking to the dinner itself. The service was exceptional and the food incredible. Great beers available and extra special service provided for the doggo we had with us. I would absolutely recommend this pub!

Decent food. Not a huge selection but often that's a good sign.

Sadly, quite poor service. Waited at table unattended for ages. So, got up to order drinks at bar (added to tab - mistake, read on). Had to get up again to get someone to take food order. Then told there was no more haddock & chips. (So only 5 mains left from choice of 6). Waited ages again for food which was average pub fare. The biggest slap in the face was a 12.5% service charge (an extra £9.45 to the bill). This included the drinks I had to get up to order and fetch myself at the bar. Yes, it’s ‘discretionary’, but do you want to add another half hour to your evening while they work out how to adjust the bill and query why you were not ‘satisfied’ enough to give them an extra 10 quid for the pleasure? So, £85 for three mains and four small drinks. We were in an Air BnB so should’ve got some grub from Marks n Sparks and a nice bottle of wine instead! Regrets, I’ve had a few…

We always have a great time there, we always go in a big group, and the team is always happy to accomodate us. highly recommended, the food, drink selection and the team are all brilliant.

I've had to re-write my review. This has always been a beautiful pub but it's like they've come out of first gear now with the service. Phenomenal service and food with a relaxed pub atmosphere. Love it!

A nice back street pub with friendly staff. You will find not just a very nice atmosphere inside, but nice decoration too. A great place to spend time with friends. I found the food quality on average. PS I loved the background music when I visited it. As usual it is based on food quality, staff attitude, atmosphere and local-standard value for money. Very welcoming atmosphere, the chef even pulled out an excellent roast at the eleventh hour in Easter Sunday: couldn't have been more grateful. Great atmosphere and challenging pub quiz. What's not to like!

We have gone to The Petersfield on multiple occasions during our stay in Cambridge. It is a very cozy pub, with very friendly staff. The food is very good, the same price in the area. There is always a good atmosphere and they have board games. You have to reserve because it is always full!! 100% recommendable.

The pub has a cosy atmosphere, very forthcoming staff, and an outstanding selection of wines. We were all amazed by our experience and look forward to coming back soon again.

Came here for dinner with friends. First time here, also first night in Cambridge. The atmosphere is great. Food was too. Had the haddock and chips (large fish and fries). The chorizo tagliatelle with red wine sauce. They were very tasty. The fried squid/calamari was very well seasoned. We also had the desserts which were very good- the chocolate dome, the apple raspberry tart, sticky toffe pudding. We all enjoyed everything.

I've lived in Cambridge most of my life and this is the first time here for a Sunday lunch. Absolutely blown away. It was the best meal I've ever had in a Cambridge pub to be honest and I am a very fussy person when it comes to a roast dinner. Simply amazing.

Excellent food, and superb service. I was struggling to choose a wine and mentioned that after Covid I struggle with my sense of taste and white wine is a bit hit and miss. My waiter made it her mission to find me something that would work and three slurps of different things later, I’ve rediscovered Chardonnay! Really kind and engaged service and the food is obviously above par and everyone is enjoying being here. First visit but I’ll be back.

This review is an update. Down from 5 stars to three. Portions are a bit stingy, how can you justify £19 for a chicken thigh? Quality isnt as good as it used to be. Service was 'vague'. No offer of drinks, not even water for the table. Come on guys, we know you can do better than this and get those 5 stars back.

Cold ravioli and the discretionary service charge is not discretionary. We asked for the discretionary service charge to be removed and we were told it was against company policy to do so. Beware....

Went for Sunday lunch, unfortunately the food was very bad, stone cold, and the ‘roast’ potatoes were rock hard, they had presumably only been read a short story about an oven. Can only really justify 2 stars as the bar staff were lovely. The kitchen really needs to look at itself, charging £20 per roast, yikes.

Lovely place to spend the evening. Food was excellent and considering how busy they are pretty speedy too. Friendly staff. I’d recommend booking a week or two in advance.

Came here after my sisters funeral asked to vacate my table in 15 minutes bad service no respect

Nice little dining pub but make sure you book, they don’t seem to welcome walk-ins, not even for just drinks. One barman who was backlogged with table orders, nobody helping him, so a 15 minute wait for a simple pint of beer and a G&T. Second round not much faster so gave up and ate elsewhere.

I’ve cycled past this establishment multiple times a week for the past 2 years and just had the pleasure of being a patron on Sunday! We booked a table a few weeks in advance for 6 of us and had a lovely time. The Sunday roast was delicious! We had a combination of vegetarian and Omni dishes and everyone agreed that it was at the top of our list for roasts in Cambridge. We’ll definitely be back to try some other items.

£2 for a slice of cheese on a £15 burger which it already was supposed to come with according to the menu. I did get offered £1 off my bill for the inconvenience. (Not taken… this better be the best slice of cheese on a burger I ever taste!). Ale tastes vinegary which was meant to be fruity. Also doesn’t have a cash option.

I know the team but, for me, this is a fabulous pub with great food and some great inclusive events. We went to a fab Christmas drag queen event there on Saturday evening and it was the most perfect vibes. Tons of fun!

Food, service and atmosphere was fantastic.

Rather disappointed. The starters were just OK. My squid in a chili sauce was well cooked but the sauce was a little too 'hot'. However the Sunday Roasts were below par. The plates were overfilled vegetables just close to being raw. The Cauliflower cheese had no or nearly no cheese. This was swiftly put right by the manager. Service was good ( particularly a short haired waitress who was superb In the end I was under impressed and would rank it average at best A shame as the place itself is very pleasant and the atmosphere is good

Very welcoming, accommodating and friendly staff; everything done with a smile. Food, Roast Beef, was brilliant, seasonal veg cooked perfectly and hearty portion sizes. Atmosphere is exceptional, roaring fire - all in with more than reasonable prices. Fantastic place.

We had found this place last year when we came up for a football match and had such a great meal we had to come back, this time for Sunday lunch although we did pop in as we were passing the day before for a couple of beers and a sit in the garden which was lovely The team were very accommodating with our booking ahead of time as I couldn’t book online so emailed them and they were happy to sort it We had a delicious meal with a nice bottle of red. We had beef which was super tender and still pink which should be easy for food establishments but so often doesn’t happen. The accompaniments were also delicious especially the cauliflower cheese which we got as an extra. Absolutely delicious We’ll definitely back next April when we come back up for football

Popped in for an impromptu cocktail and the Mojito was banging! I'm a Mojito snob but that was a belter. The pub was buzzing. It was Thursday steak night and whilst we didn't eat this time will definitely be back! 😋

Found this place by chance and had an early dinner with the family. The place was cozy and the staff super friendly. They had a kids menu which was handy with the kids. My wife had the pork belly special and I had the fish and chips and both were phenomenal. Would certainly come back again.

Lovely but 5 something for a 35ml of Laphroaig round the corner at Geldart. The Pilgrim ale from Norfolk is something unique.

Great place to visit, especially on the weekend when they have a pub quiz on the Sunday and a brunch option on the Saturday. In order to enter the pub quiz you should book ahead as it does get busy and also a little bit noisy.

The Petersfield was suggested as a place to visit for lunch. So, after a 30 minute train journey and 15 minute walk from the station we arrived to a nice looking pub , both outside and in. As we made our way to the bar, there was the sign, CARDS ONLY. not being in possession of a card between us, we were forced to beat a retreat and find another establishment. Such a disappointment. I have looked on the website and can find no noticeable reference to card only. I have marked as such because we felt let down and somewhat discriminated against by not having a card.

The Harissa Mac&Cheese was an interesting experience. Toilets being out of order not so much.

Ordered via QR code, server gave me wrong drink and was sure that it was what I ordered. Nice enough to change it but when I checked the order, I was correct :)
