Been coming here over 10 times now for Sunday roast at this pub so we’ll worth a review now Ie - it serves a carvery on a Sunday as well as food during the week - . It is the best carvery in Cambridge not only are there top quality meats served from the joint by the boss at the hot plate there is Every single available vegetable you could think it and the service is top-notch. The roast potatoes are to die for - Everybody provides service with a smile-I took friends there today who would never normally go to this pub for drink or food but they all came away Saying how brilliant everything was, please give it a go, you’ll definitely return.

The sunday cavery is great! My friends and I regularly go on a Sunday when we want a rast dinner. There is lots of choice and it all tastes like good, home cooked food. It's also great value for money, especially in Cambridge. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Booking in advance is a good idea as it can get very busy. I've also been here for dinner during the week and the homemade pie was amazing, it took a while as the chef made the pastry from scratch but it was worth waiting for!

we just had a real beaut Sunday Carvery! booked for the 2 of us, 1pm, first timers so dod not know the protocol, but stood at the bar, ordered our choice and paid, then sat with a number, very soon a young man came and got us with the number to get our order, the choice was either Pork, Beef, Gammon, Turkey, or a combo of 2, we had medium plates, which had 2 generous serves of meat of choice! then came the veges, broccili, peas, carrots, parsnips, spud ( roasted and mashed) mashed swede too, all fresh, all cooked to perfection as far as my personal taste, the cauliflour was in a gorgeous Cheesy sauce, gravy was a nice finish over the home made yorkshire puds, and when they ran out there was the norm...a couple of balls of stuffing, this was the only item not to my taste, an induvidual taste too, the service was quick, and the food was well cooked and hot, very tasty.

Fantastic Sunday carvery - food is fresh, good quality and plentiful. Definitely much better than your average carvery. The pub is clean and good sized - the food was excellent with a great choice of veg and potatoes all cooked perfectly. They cook jn smaller batches so it’s much fresher than other carvery’s as it’s not left ti sit under hot lamps and dry out. The meats were excellent, all clearly high quality and again cooked to perfection not overdone or dry. As for the staff well what a lovely welcoming bunch they are . We turned up right at the end of service on the off chance and they couldn’t have done more for us or been more accommodating - They cooked up extra veg and Yorkshires. Probably one of if not the best carvery I’ve had and will definitely be going back

we booked a table for 1pm and the reason for this is that in the past when we have been to this pub for Carvery on Sunday the waiting time is terrible .We were assured at the time of booking this matter had been resolved now .So we thought ok maybe it is worth trying it again .We arrived to be told that although we did book they were running 30 minutes behind.... So 1hour and 20 minutes later we at last were able to get our food !!!!!!!!!by then the buffet was picked over and awful .Whilst waiting on the Table next to us a lady took her 1 year old to the toilet and sat back at her table then notice something in his mouth ...A USED CRACK NEEDLE HE HAD PICKED UP IN THE TOILET!!!!!!!!! She told the staff Who said oh sorry about that SHOCKING !!!!!!!the reaction was Disgusting by Staff !!!!!!And of course had to take her child straight to the Hospital since he had this needle in his mouth .She went back to complain on her way out that the needle was in the toilet and her child got hold of it and was told it wasn't anyone's fault !!!!!!!!Accident happens they must have missed it when they checked the toilets. IWILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS DISGUSTING PUB AGAIN THAT CHILD MAY HAVE CAUGHT ANYTHING NOW FOR ALL THEY KNOW . AND THE CARVERY CUSTOMERS SERVICE WAS AWFUL .

We're always on the look out for good places for a full English breakfast. This one was one of the best we've had! We went for the regular (smaller size) rather than large, and asked for a few things to be left off (the regular includes mushrooms, black pudding, tomato, fried bread, etc...). They seemed very happy to replace items with other things if we wanted. Everything was perfect- really good quality meat and everything cooked as you'd want it. Coffee was served in a cafetiere and was very nice. For a regular size, it was very big! Excellent value for money and really warm, friendly atmosphere. It's obviously a pub (a perfectly nice, but not posh one), so if you want a more refined coffee house or brasserie feel, this is not the one. However, if you like a proper English breakfast, and like a traditional greasy spoon this is definitely worth a visit!

We had booked a table for our family of four. Arrived and drinks were purchased within a reasonable time frame. Shown to our seats and when we tried to approach the carvery, we were abruptly told that there were take away meals which had to be priority. So we sat back down again and waited 20 minutes until we thought we had been beckoned to come for food, however, another table had just been seated next to us and at the carvery table we were told they were first. When we raised this as a problem, they finally allowed our family to get their food. Whilst sat waiting and during the entirety of our meal, we noticed the various staff keep pulling bits of meat off the carvery to eat. Dreadful and disgusting as no one wore gloves. Eventually there seemed to be a big plate of meat piled at the back for the staff to continually pick at. The chap putting together the various take away meals in cartons was dressed inappropriately, kept removing sweat from his non-gloved hands from his face, and then continuing to serve the food into the cartons, some by hand e.g. Yorkshire puddings. Would never order take away from this place! The food itself was a bit overpriced though not too bad. Some was overcooked, the roast potatoes were hard and some items were not available due to them being all given to the take away cartons. Overall we would never return due to the poor standard of hygiene and service.

I have been coming to the pub consistently on a Sunday for the past two months. The carvery they provide is good quality and the food is delicious. However, the pub management prioritise bookings to the point that people who simply walk in without a reservation are turned away. You would think the pub would want to prioritise the business that comes through their door rather than a half promise then a no show, especially in the current climate. It’s also the case that they seem to prioritise their friends. Often , people have to wait a long time to be served however if the management know the group, they seem to somehow find themselves at the front of the queue. This is quite frustrating to see! If the management sorted out these things, they would honestly do the best Sunday Lunch in Cambridge.

Ok we hadn’t booked but this wasn’t a problem when they took our money and if there wasn’t enough food the 2 of us they should of turned us away. Multiple times we asked when we would be able to eat and just kept being told after the people booked in had. It was shocking service and poorly run.

I have eaten at this hostelry many times in the past, and we had Sunday lunch there yesterday too. If you want an excellent & generous Sunday lunch, then this is the place to go for a good feed in my opinion! During the week the landlady invites other cooks to present cooking from their own countries, for example: Weds evenings is Caribbean Food (very tasty); Friday night is Spanish Food (as yet I haven't eaten that), however, I have been in the pub when it is being served, & going by the fact that it attracts many lively young Spanish people to eat there, I can assume it is the real McCoy. The pub is unglamorous in appearance, but it serves up some good ales & a wide range of unusual ciders too.

I've lived round the corner from this pub for 25 years and seen it go through various guises, from the 'I wouldn't want to go there' variety to a very family-friendly place that was full of toddlers early evening on any summer Friday, doubling as a real-ale bolthole for unconventional techies mid-week; later having a devastating fire that closed it for months, to the present version, which serves several real ciders and, on Wednesdays, Caribbean food. Having spent some time in the Jamaican hinterland (forget the coastal resorts, the remote rural farm communities are so much more interesting!) I arrived sceptical, and left after dinner determined to go back to this venue soon. Their jerk chicken and curry goat is what you'd expect to taste at a cook shop on a bumpy cross-country road in Jamaica or in the local market town (well, minus some of the excess bones). Proper allspice/pimento seeds and all. Turns out the guest chef is from the Jamaican interior - the real McCoy! All they need to add is some shredded carrots and cabbage as a garnish, and some Red Stripe in the cooler... we didn't ask for any overproof rum, so I can't advise on its availability. The Citi 1 bus stops right outside and runs till late (the pub is just off Gilbert Road, in Arbury - don't be fooled by the review that says it's in King's Hedges). The atmosphere is variable; today there were not many people and rather a lot of smoke in the garden, which is why I've marked it down a notch, but the smokers aren't the chef's fault. See you one of these Wednesdays?

We had booked for Sunday lunch on 26th April, but we decided to see what the place, the food and the atmosphere were like in advance. We called in for dinner without any notice on the Friday, 24th April and, although a little taken aback by the lack of "poshness", we were warmly greeted by the barman who took our food orders very efficiently. After eating and paying the extremely reasonable bill, we told them that we would see them on Sunday and, this time, the owner checked on the booking and discussed the carvery options with us; we asked whether she would consider adding a fourth meat choice and she was very willing to meet this request. On our subsequent Sunday lunch visit we were even more impressed; they had been extremely busy but more vegetables had just been freshly cooked and the owner had made sure that there was plenty of our special request meat choice. The food was delicious and plentiful and we were very well looked after. We booked again for the following Sunday, 3rd May, and it was equally good. We expect to be going quite regularly!

The Carlton Arms is a purpose built pub/ restaurant in the King' s Hedges area of the city and for many years has been recognised for it's well kept hand pulled ales and ciders. Frankly it is not a particularly attractive building , both inside and out but they do their best with a large beer ' patio ' ( no grass ! ) out front and car parking at one side. They have two bars, public and lounge with a dining area off however since a major refurbishment due to a fire the rather worn but comfy armchairs have given way to new uncomfortable chairs so losing some of it's off kilter curiosity I feel. The lighting whilst very bright is brash and harsh on the eyes ; shame some wall lights could have been installed or perhaps try some standard lamps , old school but do create mood lighting. The Arms is very much a locals pub which is just as well being situated outside the city pub circuit. I have not eaten there but prices seem very fair so give the Carlton Arms a try .

Really fun spot to hang out while waiting for a delayed train. Coffee was ok, but service was really friendly and almond croissant was one of the best I’ve ever had. And I don’t say that lightly.
